Jalovec’s encounter with Laundrie came only minutes after Miranda Baker and her boyfriend had dropped him off at the dam.
In the video posted to TikTok, Baker said she and her boyfriend were at Grand Teton National Park in Colter Bay, Wyoming, when Laundrie approached the couple and asked them for a ride at 5.44pm.
‘He approached us asking for a ride because he needed to go to Jackson and we were going to Jackson that night. So I said, ya know, “hop in” and he hopped in the back of my Jeep,’ Baker explained.
She noted Laundrie, 23, was wearing ‘a backpack, a long sleeve, pants and hiking boots’ and said that before he got in the car he offered to pay the couple $200 to give him a 10-mile ride.
‘So that was kind of weird,’ she said.
In a later video, she added that Laundrie supposedly told her he and Petito, 22, were not camping on a regulated campsite through the national park. ‘They were camping basically out in the middle of nowhere along Snake River,’ she said.

Baker recounted the alleged story Laundrie told her and her boyfriend: ‘This is key information. He said that he had hiked for days along Snake River but looking at his backpack, it wasn’t full.

She added: ‘He had scruff but he didn’t look dirty for someone who was camping for multiple days. He didn’t look dirty, he didn’t smell dirty, so that part was kind of weird.’
Then, when Baker told Laundrie they were driving to Jackson Hole he supposedly ‘freaked out’ and asked them to pull over and said: ‘Nope, I need to get out right now.’
Baker said they pulled over at the Jackson Dam in Grand Teton National Park, which she noted was not very far from where they originally picked Laundrie up.
He allegedly hurried out of the car and told the couple he would find someone else to hitchhike with.
‘We dropped him off at 6.09pm on August 29,’ Baker said, adding that she hopes her videos would find someone who could also help solve the case and find Petito.
Both women have reported they talked to the FBI to tell their stories.
‘Everything’s legitimate. Everything’s corroborated. I already talked to the FBI,’ Jalovec said.

Q: How did ranked ballots influence your decision to run?
I attended an information session at City Hall when they were trying to explain the system and how it was going to work. I asked a few questions and the questions were around the civility of the campaign. You know, a lot of women get involved in politics and often get attacked on their gender, on their ability to be politicians because they either have families or small children and things like that.
I walked in that room not being sure whether I was going to run or not. But I walked out knowing that I was going to run based on those answers. So right now, it did really influence a lot of decisions. We were going to be focusing on our policies and what we have to present to our voters, instead of focusing on how we can attack each other.
It was a reassuring factor knowing that this election was going to be about your policies, about your ideas and not about your gender or your skin colour. So it was a huge factor in my decision.
Q: You believe ranked ballots allowed people to focus on policy versus the other things you’ve mentioned?
Absolutely. We focused on appealing to all the voters and proposing policies that were focused on municipal work and not focused on our gender. I remember in 2014 when the campaign was happening; I did hear people ask questions about women who have smaller children, whether they were fit to be in politics or not. This was not part of the 2018 election. And I think it has a lot to do with.
Q3: What’s wrong with the current system?
First past the post is flawed. What it really focuses on is bringing back the incumbents. And not only that, it elects people who are often not everybody’s pick. This system [ranked ballots] actually increases more participation. You get to vote for three people. And if you look at the percentage of our election results, the first past the post numbers were much lower.
We went through all rounds of balloting and realized that we could get a greater percentage of the vote and be more legitimate as an elected official.

Q: Why do you think the Ford government is scrapping it?
I’m totally unsure. I don’t know why they’re doing it. I absolutely do not believe that they should be getting involved in this process. And I think that they should leave it to municipal politicians to decide.
Q: Do you think the first past the post system is a deterrent for Black women and men to run?
You know, if you look at Toronto, they’ve grown and have more Black voters and Black candidates than anywhere in the country. Toronto has a higher population of Black people than any other city in Ontario. And yet there are there’s no representation of their municipal council. And that’s because of the incumbent system.
So again, first past the post really favours the incumbent and it deters other people from running. And I think that rank ballots would be the better way to go.

SAN JOSE – The estranged wife of Evander Kane leveled accusations of domestic violence and sexual assault against the San Jose Sharks player in a restraining order application filed in Santa Clara County Family Court this week.
In divorce proceedings that have become increasingly contentious, the filing by Anna Kane states that the hockey player had a “history of domestic violence against me” and that she “walked on eggshells for fear that he would get mad and take out his anger on me.”
“In the early part of our marriage, it was verbal abuse,” she wrote, “but I eventually became his punching bag.”
In the filing, Anna Kane claimed that Evander Kane violently forced her to have oral sex with him in March 2019 after a funeral for the former couple’s daughter, who died after she was born more than two months premature.
Days later, Anna Kane wrote, “Evander again forced me, against my will, to have sexual intercourse with him even though I had not healed.”
The filing says that when she protested, Evander said, “you can’t rape your wife.”
Evander Kane’s lawyer, Travis Krepelka, responded to the allegations in a lengthy statement sent to this news organization, saying in part, “Evander denies ever abusing Ms. Kane or their daughter Kensington, whom he cherishes.”
In the document, Anna Kane also wrote that she had wine with some of the other players’ wives at dinner before a 2019 Sharks playoff game in Las Vegas. Evander Kane could still be prosecuted for the sexual assault claims if Anna Kane chose to press charges, and prosecutors do have the discretion to pursue charges even without her cooperation. And because there is no longer any statute of limitations for felony sex offenses in California, he could be prosecuted any time in the future if authorities determine there is sufficient evidence of a crime.
