Tory Lanez was a trending Twitter topic on Monday (July 13) — but not for anything good. The Canadian rapper was arrested in Los Angeles on Sunday (July 12) after police were called to a Hollywood Hills home for a disturbance call.

Witnesses said people were arguing in an SUV and someone fired shots in the air before fleeing the scene. By the time police arrived, the SUV was gone. Officers eventually located it and discovered both Lanez and Megan Thee Stallion in the car.

During a search of the vehicle, police found a gun and arrested Lanez (real name Daystar Peterson) for carrying a concealed weapon in a vehicle, a felony.

According to the Los Angeles Sheriff Office website, he was booked into the L.A. County jail around 8 a.m. local time and released after posting a $35,000 bond. He’s expected back in court on October 13 to face the charge.

Despite the seriousness of Lanez’s situation, Twitter can’t stop talking about his physical appearance. The arrest report lists Lanez’s height as 5-foot, 3-inches and weight at 120 pounds, which wasn’t overlooked by Twitter (and neither was his first name).

Friends of a Melbourne carpenter who took his own life just hours after a two-week construction ban was announced have lashed out at the ‘rubbish’ protests that threaten to overshadow his tragic death.

Stipe Lijovic died at the Crema Construction site on Spencer Street in Melbourne’s West on Tuesday morning, just before 7am.

Mr Lijovic has been remembered as ‘an absolute gentleman’ and great workmate to all who knew him over the years.

But there are concerns wild protests which spilled onto the streets will overshadow  the mammoth loss felt by Mr Lijovic’s family and friends.

‘[It is] a loss that I refuse to be overshadowed by the rubbish that is happening around us today,’ former colleague John Dagher said in a touching tribute.

Mr Lijovic lived in Keilor Downs with his wife, Blazenka, and had a tightknit family across the city.

When Victorian Premier Dan Andrews announced a two-week hiatus for the construction industry, Mr Lijovic was one of thousands of tradesmen who suddenly found themselves out of work.

Colleagues have rallied behind Mr Lijovic, vowing his death ‘won’t be in vain’ and paying tribute to the ‘kind and genuine bloke [who] will be missed by so many’.

Tensions escalated again on Tuesday as protestors lit flares and hurled projectiles towards police.

About 2,000 tradesmen and anti-vaccination and freedom campaigners rampaged through the city for ten hours.

Police – who were caught short by the hastily organised protest – said 62 people were arrested on Tuesday after footage showed violent thugs attacking police by throwing cans or punching them in the street.

He also said mandatory vaccination orders for the industry would not be removed.

Demonstrations were expected to continue on Wednesday but dozens of police officers were on the front foot early in the morning arresting protesters as they arrived.

About 20 riot squad officers marched through Elizabeth Street in the city centre – after police vowed they would be better prepared for violence since being caught off guard on Tuesday.

CFMEU boss John Setka earlier blasted ‘fake tradies’ and ‘man-baby Nazis’ who sparked the violent scenes outside union headquarters – which prompted the full shutdown.

Mr Sekta described the ‘professional protesters and fake tradies’ as ‘scum of the earth, drunken and un-Australian morons’.

‘There were a few of anti-vaxxer activists there who are not union members or are from our industry, they’re the ones you see at all the protests,’ Mr Setka earlier said.

‘It just got out of control. Then they were consuming a whole heap of alcohol. Thanks to these morons, 300,000 Victorians are sitting at home for at least the next couple of weeks, could drag out even longer.’

Late Monday night, the Victorian government shut down the industry for two weeks in metropolitan Melbourne, City of Ballarat, City of Greater Geelong, Surf Coast Shire and Mitchell Shire.

The government said the shutdown was required to cut down movement, reduce Covid-19 transmission and give the industry time to adapt to new requirements.

All worksites will need to demonstrate compliance with health directions prior to reopening.

This includes a requirement for workers to show evidence of having had at least one dose of a vaccine before they return to work on October 5.
