Chuck Norris Delivers a Roundhouse Kick of Impact – Discover His Legendary Legacy

As I ventured into middle age during the 1990s, my personal life felt like a tangled forest. I started seeing a young woman of Italian descent who cherished her Very Old Grandmother. This endearing lady, who seemed to find no greater joy than spending her days at home in her United Nations Plaza apartment, had a particular fondness for reruns of Walker: Texas Ranger. The Very Old Grandmother didn’t speak a word of English—perhaps a conscious, slightly defiant choice—but this did not hinder her appreciation of the show. The allure was Chuck Norris, the show’s stalwart lead. Observing her admiration for Norris’ straightforward (some might say expressionless) acting and martial arts style, I often felt her gaze turn from the screen to me with a mix of pity and mild disdain. Next to someone like Chuck, what did I offer? Not much, I feared.

Feeling overshadowed by Chuck Norris is quite an experience, especially among my peers as a film critic. During Norris’ peak at the box office, both his television and film endeavors were often dismissed with sarcasm. It’s reminiscent of music producer Sam Phillips’ vision in the ’50s of finding a white singer with a Black feel—Elvis Presley being the result. While it may not be entirely fair to dub Norris the Elvis of martial arts films, it’s not entirely off the mark either.

Credit where it’s due: Norris was dedicated to his craft. He achieved black belts in five martial arts disciplines. Born in Oklahoma, he discovered martial arts while stationed in South Korea with the Air Force. Upon returning to the U.S., he moved to Hollywood, initially training actors, and secured his first role in The Wrecking Crew, a forgettable Dean Martin spy spoof. His skill caught the attention of Bruce Lee, who cast him as an antagonist in 1972’s The Way of the Dragon. This film, Lee’s sole complete directorial project, featured a climactic fight amidst Roman ruins, observed by a curious kitten—showing that directing is all about choices.

Norris landed his first leading role in the largely forgettable 1977 film Breaker! Breaker!, one of several films inspired by the CB radio hit “Convoy” by C.W. McCall. This film may sound like a relic to those under 65, but its real significance was its low budget and high returns. This success prompted producers to think, “Why not replicate this success a few more times with this Norris guy?”

While Norris wasn’t renowned for his acting skills—his emotional range made Charles Bronson seem like Joaquin Phoenix—his martial arts prowess kept audiences engaged in his early films. The 1978 film Good Guys Wear Black featured an eclectic cast including Anne Archer, Dana Andrews, and Jim Backus from Gilligan’s Island. Directed by Ted Post, known for the disappointing sequel Magnum Force to Dirty Harry, this film nonetheless tied Norris to Clint Eastwood in his mind, a connection he seemed to cherish.

The movie does hit on a theme that was to animate quite a few future Norris pictures; that is, missing-in-action Vietnam War soldiers. American Vietnam War soldiers, just so we’re clear.  “My country wasn’t built on sacrificing people to expedite principles,” Norris apparently said of this story. I don’t even know what that means. 1983’s Lone Wolf McQuade set a template for the future series Walker, but Norris arguably didn’t find his ideal cinematic water level until he teamed up with the Israeli mega-producers Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus of Cannon Pictures. Together they initiated the Missing In Action series, which features Norris going to ‘Nam and rescuing his buddies from still-operational POW camps. The first Missing film came in between Stallone’s First Blood and Rambo: First Blood Part II and both franchises functioned as cinematic fantasy camps of sorts, snatching Vietnam victory from the real-life jaws of defeat. By this time Norris was less focused on showing off martial arts virtuosity and more into firing machine guns. In between Missing films, Golan and Globus tested Norris’ mettle by teaming him with the likes of Lee Marvin (in 1986’s Delta Force; Lee looks less than engaged, frankly) and trying him out in action-comedy (Firewalker, with Lou Gossett, Jr., also 1986).

His pictures grossed over 500 million bucks, and even after initiating the CBS series Walker (also a Cannon production), Norris churned them out. But he was over fifty by this time, and it’s harder to high-kick at that age. By 1995 they had him co-starring with a dog in, well, Top Dog. But he still commanded bona-fide respect from martial-arts stars, working with legend Sammo Hung on the short-lived CBS series Martial Law. Eventually, as happens to almost all action stars who live long enough, he got to make fun of his persona in 2004’s comedy Dodgeball: The True Underdog Story. He was a genuine show business trouper who made a lot of people, including non-English-speaking Italian grandmothers, very happy.

Countdown to Jujutsu Kaisen Episode 59: Release Date & Time Revealed!

0

The much-anticipated return of Jujutsu Kaisen with its third season has captivated audiences since its debut in the Winter 2026 Anime Season. However, fans should brace themselves as the upcoming episode, titled “Sendai Colony,” will serve as the mid-season finale for the series. The first segment of this season has intensely followed Yuji Itadori and Megumi Fushiguro as they entered the Culling Game in Tokyo Colony, setting the stage for thrilling developments.

As the series approaches a mid-season hiatus, Episode 12 will shift its focus, introducing viewers to the events unfolding in Sendai Colony. Here, Special Grade Sorcerer Yuta Okkotsu and the formidable Queen of Curses take center stage. They find themselves entangled in a complex four-way battle against an unexpected coalition of sorcerers. Having previously demonstrated his abilities in a showdown with Yuji, audiences will now witness Yuta’s growth and strength since the dramatic Night Parade of 100 Demons.

The recent clash between Megumi Fushiguro and Reggie Star has highlighted a surprising aspect of Megumi’s character—his skill in deception. This trait has allowed him to outmaneuver his adversaries, often leading them to underestimate his capabilities. Reggie, underestimating Megumi because of his youth, quickly realized that Megumi posed a far greater challenge than anticipated.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s Megumi Fushiguro Crushes Reggie Star, Literally

The battle between Megumi Fushiguro and Reggie Star proved one thing about Megumi no one expected, despite how obvious it’s always been. He is a master of deception, which tricks his enemies into underestimating him. Reggie fell prey to this misconception early on, admitting that, for a kid, Megumi was a challenge far more capable than he gave him credit for.

Using the gymnasium to close off his Domain Expansion, Megumi has Reggie right where he wants him. Even when Reggie realizes how heavy the actual weight of Chimera Shadow Garden is on Megumi, he still gets too cocky for his own good. There’s no denying it is pushing him to his limits, but Megumi is nowhere near ready to throw in the towel and allow himself to be crushed.

The back and forth in this battle is intriguing because of Reggie’s massive ego. Even as he finds himself drowning inside Megumi’s shadow, he has the perfect backup plan. That only makes him cocky, and the cockier he gets, the closer to his own demise he comes. Reggie fully believes he can’t lose, which makes him sloppy enough to get himself killed.

His greatest downfall before the end was underestimating Demon Dog. Reggie spent the entire battle believing Demon Dog was spent, but Megumi was simply reserving him for the right moment. Even after suffering a fatal attack, Reggie Star lay near the pool’s edge bleeding out and goading Megumi.

Fushiguro’s Distrust for Tengen Comes to the Surface

Before Reggie dies, Megumi’s suspicions about Tengen’s relationship with Kenjaku come to the surface when he asks Reggie about Tengen. Since Reggie’s summary of Kenjaku’s plans didn’t align with what Tengen told them, he began to wonder if the Star was playing them all as pawns.

Reggie’s relationship with Tengen would shed light on that, so when he answers, “That shut-in,” Megumi has to think about it from a different perspective. He realizes he needs to be suspicious. So far as he knows, Tengen could have been lying to them, and fully aware and complicit in Kenjaku’s plans all along. But given Reggie’s response, it doesn’t seem likely. Still, he won’t let his guard down, not when there are so many variables at play.

Before dying, Reggie calls Kogane and instructs it to give Megumi his points. When Megumi asks why, even Reggie’s answer is indecipherable. He says it’s his one kind act before dying, but then admits he thinks it’ll be interesting. Having never been close friends with Kenjaku, he really doesn’t care, but he encourages Megumi to let fate toy with him a bit, and then die a fool.

The Angel Appears In JJK Episode 58

With Reggie’s death, fans get to see what Takaba’s been up to in his battle against Hazenoki outside. His wacky antics seem to be driving Hazenoki over the edge. When Kogane appears to inform him that Reggie Star is dead, Hazenoki decides he’s done with all this, and he’s going home. The last time fans see Takaba, for now, he’s following Hazenoki and asking him to give over his points in the most absurd way imaginable.

As the scene shifts over to Remi, running from Megumi, she’s giving this speech about wolves. Men are wolves, but she needs them to take care of the important stuff for her. She’s too cute, that’s the one thing she has going for her. She stumbles as she comes face-to-face with Demon Dog, Megumi coming up on her from behind. He’s got his blade out, and he’s fully prepared to put an end to Remi, but he hears the voice of his sister, compelling him not to.

Walking past her, Megumi collapses, unconscious on the ground. A golden light appears above him, and The Angel Tengen told them about begins to descend over him, smiling radiantly. This Angel is the only one who can unseal the Prison Realm and release Gojo, but that’s definitely not going to happen before the end of Season 2, Cour 1.

There has still been no official confirmation on when Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3, Cour 2, will begin airing episodes. With many speculating the second half of the season won’t release until Fall 2026, JJK fans hope for it to arrive earlier after an action-packed first cour. The series has introduced a lot of new characters amid a death game, and it’s only going to get more brutal going forward.

Jujutsu Kaisen‘s final Season 3, Cour 1 episode, “Sendai Colony,” will air on March 26, 2026, in the 12:30pm ET/9:30am PT timeslot on Crunchyroll. With English dub episodes airing about two weeks behind JJK‘s subtitled episodes, the dub for Episode 58 could appear as early as April 9.

Netflix CEO Ted Sarandos Unfollows Meghan Markle Amidst Speculative Buzz

0

Ted Sarandos recently made a discreet move by unfollowing Meghan Markle and her lifestyle venture, As Ever, on Instagram, coinciding with the brand’s removal from the streaming platform.

The Netflix executive was among the first to follow the Duchess of Sussex when she made her social media comeback at the beginning of 2025.

Last March, Meghan’s lifestyle brand debuted on Instagram, initially named American Riviera Orchard before rebranding to As Ever. Sarandos had included the account among the roughly 450 profiles he follows.

However, the Daily Mail has disclosed that about a month ago, both Sarandos and his creative chief, Bela Bajaria, ceased following Meghan and her brand.

Previously, both Sarandos and Bajaria had expressed strong support for Meghan, with Sarandos referring to her as “the rock star” as recently as last spring.

But there were claims in the US this week – strongly denied by both Netflix and a lawyer for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex – that Netflix chief Ted is ‘fed up with the pair’.

Mr Sarandos’s wife, Nicole Avant, does still follow Meghan on Instagram – but not As Ever. A Netflix source told the Daily Mail: ‘Nicole and Meghan are still friends.’

This week, the Daily Mail’s Editor at Large, Alison Boshoff, gave the inside story on the split and wrote that Meghan and As Ever seem to have been expunged with ‘Stalinist thoroughness’ by Netflix’s top brass – seemingly indicating a proper behind-the-scenes falling out.

Mr Sarandos quietly unfollowed Meghan Markle and As Ever on Instagram

It came shortly before her brand was purged by the streamer

Mr Sarandos quietly unfollowed Meghan Markle and As Ever on Instagram shortly before her brand was purged by the streamer

Sources told her Mr Sarandos was in awe of Meghan’s ability to capture attention, and was impressed by the way every item shown in their 2022 blockbuster, score-settling documentary, Harry & Meghan, sold out – even the Hermes blanket, which was seen artfully folded over the back of a chair.

However, the mood music has changed.

Both Sarandos and Bela Bajaria have been heard saying things in private about the pair which were ‘not complimentary’, although Ms Boshoff’s sources declined to share exactly what.

The streaming giant put money in but the brand struggled and the plug was officially pulled on Friday, March 6.

One source told her: ‘There was just all this jam. We had thought that there would be more to it.’

According to insiders, Hollywood entertainment bible Variety claimed Mr Sarandos is said to have remarked he would not sit for a call with Meghan ‘unless a lawyer was present on the line’.

Netflix states this is ‘absolutely inaccurate’ while lawyer Michael J Kump, acting for the Sussexes, described it in a letter to Variety as ‘blatantly false’ and claimed that Meghan speaks and texts regularly with Mr Sarandos – as well as having ‘been to his home, sans lawyers’.

Last month, sources close to Meghan claimed that she felt Netflix was too cautious with her lifestyle brand selling jam, candles and now flowers.

Insiders at the streaming giant then hit back and told Variety this week that the Sussexes had been difficult to work with at times, with one declaring: ‘The mood in the building is “We’re done”.’

Meghan was reportedly accused by Netflix staff of ‘disappearing’ off Zoom calls to signal her ‘offence’ and talking over her husband in meetings, sometimes ‘to recast Prince Harry’s thoughts’ when he was mid-sentence.

These claims were also denied by their lawyer, who insisted Meghan, as a working mother, only left her screen to care for Archie and Lilibet – not out of frustration.

Meghan returned to the red carpet at a charity bash alongside her best friend Kelly Zajfen in LA last night – her first public appearance since the Netflix drama this week.

The two women were at the Alliance for Children’s Rights’ 34th Annual Champions for Children event at the Beverly Wilshire – a Four Seasons luxury hotel in Beverly Hills.

Meghan, 44, wore a stylish navy strapless gown by Ralph Lauren and black sandals from Stuart Weitzman.

And she was clearly happy to be with her good friend Kelly. She repeatedly hugged and put an arm around the charity’s co-founder on the red carpet, as well as cradling  Kelly’s baby bump for the cameras.

Amid the briefing war, Meghan stepped out with Kelly Zajfen, 44, who has been friends with the Duchess of Sussex for more than 20 years and lives close to her in California.

Meghan’s red carpet appearance came after a series of bombshell articles giving an insider’s view of the Sussexes’ break-up with Netflix.

Three different insiders at the streaming giant briefed Variety writer Matt Donnelly that the Duchess of Sussex vanishing for ‘long periods’ during video calls was one of her ‘odd methods of providing feedback’.

‘Later, Netflix teams like the marketing department would be informed that her absence [on Zoom] was due to her being offended by something that was said’, Mr Donnelly claimed.

The Sussexes’ lawyer, Mr Kump, reacted angrily to allegations put to the couple by Hollywood’s entertainment bible before it published the piece this week.

Mr Kump said that if Meghan ever left her screen, it was to tend to her children as a working mother – not out of anger. Prince Harry is said to have said it is ‘categorically false’ that his wife would talk over him.

The couple’s lawyer also accused Variety of falling into ‘misogynistic characterisation of her bossing her husband around’ after writing that Meghan would ‘recast Harry’s thoughts’ in meetings.

Contesting that his client would walk away from Zoom calls in frustration, he said in a letter to Variety that Meghan ‘works from home, is the mother of young children aged four and six, and often encounters (as many parents who work from home do) children who enter the space unexpectedly during a meeting. Independent of being a parent who works from home, Meghan is also conscious of shielding her team from the distraction of children’.

He added: ‘Nearly all professionals can attest to needing to turn off the audio or camera during a virtual meeting at some point during many hours of virtual business calls.’

Mr Kump also dismissed a number of other claims about Meghan’s behaviour in the piece entitled: Inside Meghan and Harry’s Falling Out With Netflix – and Why the Royal Couple Is Struggling in Hollywood.

The feature, which has made headlines around the world, also alleged she would interrupt her husband, Prince Harry, in meetings.

The publication stated: ‘In virtual and in-person meetings with partners, she tends to talk over or recast Prince Harry’s thoughts, sometimes while he is in mid-sentence, sources say (usually preceded by a touch to the arm or thigh).’

Mr Kump said in his legal that this assertion ‘seems calculated to play into the misogynistic characterisation of her bossing her husband around’.

Prince Harry also attests this is ‘categorically false’, Variety said.

Variety’s brutal takedown of the couple claimed that the streaming giant is said to be ‘done’ with Harry and Meghan.

Hitting back yesterday, Netflix’s chief content officer, Bela Bajaria, declared of the Variety piece: ‘I would say don’t believe whatever you read.’

The feature examined the Sussexes’ deal with the streamer, which claims to be sourced from half a dozen well-placed insiders, says the union between the two parties has been ‘far from a fairy tale’.

‘The Sussexes’ perceived pattern of selling repackaged versions of the same story about their exit from royal life has exhausted Netflix,’ the magazine says.

The article goes on to claim: ‘Their partnership may continue to taper off, and with it will be Meghan and Harry’s remaining showbusiness lifeline.’

In a series of devastating claims, the magazine said the couple’s ‘bedside manner has ruffled feathers in meetings’ while the ‘lacklustre’ ratings for shows such as With Love, Meghan have led to serious doubts at the streamer.

The couple’s company, Archewell Productions, is also accused of ‘poor communication’ in dealings with Netflix.

The Variety article also says that two insiders allege Netflix, which Variety says paid around £45million for a five-year deal with the Sussexes, was ‘annoyed’ by the couple’s decision to give a tell-all interview to Oprah Winfrey in the wake of their acrimonious departure from the Royal Family.

The company was also said to have been ‘blindsided again’ by Harry’s decision to publish his vitriolic memoir Spare, details of which were ‘downplayed’ by Meghan.

The magazine suggests executives felt both projects had an effect on their own hit-job documentary with the pair.

However, a spokesman for the Sussexes insists they co-operated with Netflix throughout.

The magazine goes on to say that, despite the success of Netflix documentary Harry & Meghan, ‘A-list talent and directors’ are ‘hesitant to work with the pair’ given their track record – and it claims several projects have been canned.

Despite the streamer’s insistence that they remain committed to the couple through a ‘first look’ deal, ‘sales agents and filmmakers on the ground’ are said to be uninterested in any Archewell Productions involvement in projects, according to four different sources, the magazine says.

The magazine says that after her second series of With Love, Meghan ‘cratered’, sources told them that ‘Netflix was losing faith in the former royals’.

It concludes: ‘After half a decade of inconsistent shows, strategic shifts, false starts and a diminished hold on the popular imagination, are the Sussexes really living the Hollywood dream they imagined?’

The insider revelations come less than a fortnight after it emerged Netflix was parting ways with As Ever.

The range, which produces products like wine, tea and jams, was initially launched in April 2025 in partnership with Netflix’s Consumer Products division, to coincide with the release of With Love, Meghan.

Both the brand and the show now seem to have been dropped – although a spokesman for the Sussexes told Variety there would continue to be ‘seasonal specials’.

Alejandro Tosti’s Unconventional Wife Search Steals the Spotlight at Valspar Championship

0

This week at the Valspar Championship, Alejandro Tosti is making waves both on and off the golf course. The Argentine golfer isn’t just focused on his game; he’s also sending a clear message about his personal life.

During the opening round on Thursday in Palm Harbor, Florida, Tosti drew attention with his unique approach to the tournament’s customized caddie bibs. Instead of the usual information, his bib boldly declared, “NEEDS A WIFE,” letting spectators know he’s in the market for a significant other.

“There was some confusion, with folks wondering if it was my caddie who needed a wife,” Tosti clarified in a video released by the PGA Tour. “But no, it’s actually me,” the 29-year-old confirmed with a smile.

When asked what he could offer a potential Mrs., Tosti replied, “A lot of good stuff.”

“I love cooking, I can fly airplanes, play golf and have fun,” he said.

Tosti, who turned pro in 2018, finished an even 71 in the first round as he seeks his first PGA Tour win.

With Tosti focused on Friday’s second round, others are cheering on his personal endeavors from afar, including fast food chains.

In an Instagram Story Thursday, Tosti shared a written fortune cookie from Panda Express that offered support for his romantic future.

American David Lipsky currently leads the 2026 Valspar Championship with a total of 8-under through 18 on Friday.

Tragic Discovery: Missing Elmhurst Student James Gracey’s Body Found in Barcelona; Spanish Police Suspect Accidental Death

0

BARCELONA, Spain — James “Jimmy” Gracey, a college student from the Chicago suburbs, was tragically found dead after disappearing during a vacation in Barcelona. Spanish regional police indicated on Friday that his death is likely the result of an accident.

Authorities discovered Gracey’s body on Thursday afternoon in the waters near a beach close to where he was last seen with friends outside a Barcelona nightclub in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch

A Catalonia regional police spokesperson in Barcelona informed The Associated Press that preliminary evidence suggests the University of Alabama student’s death was accidental. An autopsy has been scheduled to confirm the cause of death.

Gracey, 20, was reportedly last spotted outside the Shoko nightclub around 3 a.m. on Tuesday. He never returned to the accommodation he shared with friends, according to his family members residing in Elmhurst. Police have since retrieved his mobile phone.

Jimmy was the eldest of five siblings. His brother, Tommy, honored him with a heartfelt Instagram post, sharing several family photos in tribute.

Gracey was a hockey player, and chaplain of his fraternity.

On Friday morning, people in Elmhurst put red ribbons on trees near the Catholic grade school he attended.

In a statement, the Gracey family asked for prayers and privacy.

“Our family is heartbroken as we confirm that Jimmy’s body has been recovered in Barcelona. Jimmy was a deeply loved son, grandson, brother, nephew, cousin, and friend, and our family is struggling to come to terms with this unimaginable loss,” the statement said.

Barcelona is a popular tourist destination that draws millions of foreign visitors each year. It is generally safe, especially compared with major U.S. cities, where tourists’ biggest worry are normally pickpockets.

The city’s Mediterranean beaches, which are located within walking distance of the bustling city center, are a main draw especially for young visitors. The area where Gracey went out is a stretch of beach with several restaurants and nightclubs that are frequented by locals and tourists.

In an interview conducted before police confirmation of his death, Gracey’s aunt told the AP that he was “just a great kid, a good Catholic boy from the Midwest.”

The University of Alabama said in a statement that the school community “is heartbroken to learn of the death of Jimmy Gracey.”

“Jimmy’s loss is deeply felt across our campus. Our condolences are with the Gracey family during this devastating time,” it said.

Officer with Undisclosed HIV Faces Backlash After Misleading Partner and Endangering Newborn

0

Pierce Cotton (Pensacola Police Department/Facebook)

A police officer in Florida faces charges for allegedly failing to inform a woman whom he impregnated about his HIV-positive status, an act considered a felony. According to court filings, the officer attempted to reassure the woman by claiming, “I can’t transmit it” and that “you and the baby can’t get it.”

Pensacola officer Pierce Cotton reportedly told the expectant mother, “I’m sick,” as detailed in his arrest report. This revelation came after a previous partner, with whom Cotton shares a child, contacted the woman to express her “concern” for her well-being, the report states.

In purported text messages, Cotton assured the woman, “It’s under control, and that’s been proven,” insisting, “You can’t contract it.”

The report indicates that the woman questioned, “Sick with what?”

Cotton allegedly responded, “I’ll preface it with this then: I can’t transmit it,” adding, “You don’t have it, since you’ve already been tested for it. … I made sure I was safe to keep you from getting it. You and the baby can’t get it from me.”

The arrest report says Cotton and the woman, who is an employee with the Pensacola Police Department, began dating in October 2025. He was allegedly still living with the other mother at the time, but claimed they weren’t in a relationship and that he was only staying with her for the time being.

The other mother contacted the woman after finding out she was pregnant and said she found medication in Cotton’s personal belongings that was alarming, according to the arrest report.

“The female told her that she was concerned for [the victim] and the unborn child’s health and that should get tested,” the report says. “She initially would not tell why the female was concerned for her health.”

The victim allegedly came forward and contacted police after speaking to Cotton, which led investigators to obtain Cotton’s medical records and discover a prior lab report.

“The lab report indicated that it was a test for [HIV] and a serum specimen was collected from a vein on July 11, 2025,” the report explains. “The results date is July 15, 2025. The lab indicated that it was a positive result.”

The Pensacola Police Department charged Cotton and placed him on administrative leave, with an internal affairs investigation underway.

Cotton was released on a $10,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned in April.

Israel Launches Strategic Airstrikes on Tehran Amid Persian New Year Celebrations

0

On Friday, Israel carried out airstrikes on Tehran as Iranians celebrated Nowruz, the Persian New Year. This conflict has sent ripples through the international economy, heightening fears that Iran’s Arab neighbors might become embroiled in the hostilities.

Reports from activists indicated that strikes were heard around the Iranian capital. These attacks followed Israel’s promise to halt further assaults on a crucial Iranian gas site, while Iran ramped up its own strikes on oil and gas facilities across the Gulf region.

In the early hours of Friday, Dubai was rocked by loud explosions as its air defenses intercepted incoming attacks. This occurred amid the Eid al-Fitr festivities, marking the conclusion of Ramadan, as the city’s mosques issued the dawn call to prayer.

Iran maintained its barrage against Israel, prompting millions to seek shelter as sirens blared from Haifa to the Galilee and near the Lebanese border. This followed a particularly intense Thursday, marked by over a dozen missile launches, as reported by the Israeli military.

The global fuel market is experiencing significant strain due to Iran’s control over the Strait of Hormuz, a vital passageway for approximately 20% of the world’s oil supply.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said late on Thursday that, at the request of US President Donald Trump, Israel will hold off any further attacks on Iran’s offshore South Pars gas field. Iranian strikes in retaliation have led to already elevated global energy prices further surging and spurred Gulf allies to call for Trump to rein in Netanyahu.

Since the US and Israel launched the war on February 28, Iran’s top leaders have been killed and the country’s military capabilities have been severely degraded. Netanyahu said in a televised address that Iran no longer has the ability to enrich uranium or make ballistic missiles, although he did not provide evidence.

Still, Iran — now led by the son of the supreme leader killed in the war’s opening salvo — remains capable of missile and drone attacks.

Brent crude oil, the international standard, briefly surged above $US119 a barrel, up more than 60 per cent since the war started. The European benchmark for natural gas prices also rose sharply and has roughly doubled in the past month.

UN Security Council meets over Iran’s attacks on Gulf states

The United Nations Security Council held an urgent closed meeting on Thursday during which Gulf countries stressed the need for Iran to halt attacks on them, said Bahrain’s UN Ambassador Jamal Alrowaiei, the Arab representative on the UN’s most powerful body.

But Iran has shown no signs of backing down. Saudi Arabia said its SAMREF refinery in the Red Sea port city of Yanbu was hit. Saudi Arabia had begun pumping large volumes of oil west toward the Red Sea to avoid the Strait of Hormuz.

Qatar, a key source of natural gas for world markets, said Iranian missiles that caused extensive damage to the Ras Laffan liquefied natural gas facility, reduced its exports by about 17 per cent and will cost about $US20 billion in lost revenue a year. The damage will take up to five years to repair, even though production at the facility had already been halted after earlier attacks.

Two oil refineries in Kuwait and gas operations in Abu Dhabi also were targeted by Iran, authorities said.

Underscoring the danger to ships in the region, a vessel was set ablaze on Thursday off the United Arab Emirates’ coast and another was damaged off Qatar. Efforts to bypass the strait were also under pressure: An Iranian drone hit a Saudi refinery on the Red Sea, which the country had hoped to use as an alternative route.

Meanwhile, the UAE said on Friday it disrupted what it called “a terrorist network funded and operated by Lebanon’s Hezbollah and Iran”, arresting its operatives. It accused the men of laundering money while “operating within the country under a fictitious commercial cover” that sought to carry out schemes that would threaten the country’s financial stability.

It published images of five prisoners on its state-run WAM news agency, without identifying the men.

Netanyahu says Iran’s military has been severely hit

At Thursday’s news conference, Netanyahu said: “Iran’s air defences have been rendered useless, their navy is lying at the bottom of the sea. … Their air force is nearly destroyed.”

He said he hopes the Iranian people will rise up against the Islamic Republic that has ruled for nearly a half-century. There’s been no sign of any organised opposition since the war began, after Iranian authorities crushed mass protests in January.

The prime minister’s comments to foreign journalists came amid difficult days for Trump and Netanyahu, with a top US intelligence official resigning and claiming Israel pushed Trump into the war, and Israel’s attacks on South Pars, which led to Iran’s retaliatory strikes on the region’s oil and gas fields.

“I misled no one,” Netanyahu said. “And I didn’t have to convince President Trump about the need to prevent Iran from developing its nuclear program.”

Iran long has insisted its program was peaceful, although it was enriching uranium up to 60 per cent purity, a short, technical step from weapons-grade levels. That stockpile of highly enriched uranium still remains in Iran.

General Dan Caine, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, said that US forces were attacking deeper into Iranian territory, with warplanes hunting Iranian boats in the strait and dropping 5000-pound bombs on underground weapons-storage facilities.

Trump says he is not deploying troops to Iran

Iran condemned Israel’s attack on South Pars, the Iranian part of the world’s largest gas field, located offshore in the Persian Gulf and owned jointly with Qatar.

With some 80 per cent of power generated in Iran coming from natural gas, according to the International Energy Agency, the attack threatens the country’s electricity supplies.

After Trump requested Israel not attack South Pars, he also warned on social media that if Iran continued striking Qatar, the US would “massively blow up the entirety” of the field.

Asked later about the possibility of US ground troops being deployed to Iran, Trump responded: “No. I’m not putting troops anywhere.”

Death toll climbs in third week of war

More than 1300 people in Iran have been killed during the war. Israeli strikes against the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militant group in Lebanon have displaced more than 1 million people, according to the Lebanese government, which says more than 1000 people have been killed. Israel says it has killed more than 500 Hezbollah militants.

In Israel, 15 people have been killed by Iranian missile fire. Four people were also killed in the occupied West Bank by an Iranian missile strike.

At least 13 US military members have been killed.

Inside the Extravagant Lifestyles of HGTV Stars: Unveiling Their Lavish Spending Habits

HGTV, the beloved home and renovation television network, has captured audiences with its exhilarating home makeovers and investment challenges. Among its most celebrated shows are “The Property Brothers,” “Disaster DIY,” “Flip or Flop,” and “Fixer Upper.” These popular series have not only showcased stunning real estate transformations but also propelled their stars into the limelight, allowing them to enjoy the lavish lifestyle that comes with their newfound fame.

Since its launch in 1994, HGTV has become a powerhouse of entertainment, and its top personalities have reaped the benefits. Thanks to astute business decisions and strategic investments, these stars have mastered the art of earning—and spending—large sums of money. From extravagant engagement rings and stunning mansions to luxurious yachts and bespoke armor, HGTV’s elite are living lives of luxury. Notable figures like the Scott twins and power couples such as the Gaineses and Baeumlers exemplify the opulence that comes with HGTV stardom.

Leading the pack in terms of wealth are Drew and Jonathan Scott, the charismatic Canadian twins with a staggering net worth of $100 million each. Their rise to fame began with a string of successful HGTV shows, including “The Property Brothers,” “Forever Home,” and “Brother vs. Brother.” A lucrative partnership with Rooms to Go further fuels their wealth, while their production company, Scott Brothers Entertainment, which they run with older brother J.D. Scott, continues to flourish.

With a combined net worth of $200 million, the Scott brothers enjoy a lifestyle most can only dream of. Drew’s appearance on Season 25 of “Dancing With the Stars” in 2017 and their fan cruises, “Sailing With the Scotts,” from 2015 to 2018 exemplify their public appeal. In 2020, they made headlines with a $9.5 million “trophy property” purchase in Los Angeles. In a romantic gesture three years later, Jonathan proposed to actress Zooey Deschanel with a Van Cleef & Arpels Folie des Pres ring, valued at $42,900.

Drew and Jonathan Scott are the wealthiest HGTV stars

The Scotts indulge in their passions beyond real estate, with Drew openly sharing his penchant for sword collecting, including an $8,000 custom suit of armor, as reported by Pop Sugar. Their musical interests have also led them to release songs on platforms like iTunes and Amazon. Moreover, the brothers have explored hundreds of escape rooms across various cities, a pastime they discussed with The Wall Street Journal, showcasing their zest for life and adventure.

The Property Brothers’ monumental $200 million combined net worth fuels a luxurious life that many can only dream of. In 2017, Drew enjoyed a stint on Season 25 of “Dancing With the Stars,” where Jonathan gave a guest performance with his brother. From 2015 to 2018, they both leisurely cruised with fans throughout the Caribbean on special Carnival trips called “Sailing With the Scotts.” In 2020, the brothers bought a “trophy property” in Los Angeles for $9.5 million. Three years later, Jonathan Scott took a big step in his relationship with actor Zooey Deschanel, proposing with a Folie des Pres ring from Van Cleef & Arpels that reportedly cost $42,900.

The rich brothers have also spent a lot on their many hobbies and side quests. Drew admitted to Pop Sugar that he has splurged a large dollar amount on his sword collection, including an $8,000 custom suit of armor made just for him. The siblings have recorded songs together on iTunes and Amazon to pursue their music passion, including “Hold On” and “Let the Light Shine In.” They also boasted to The Wall Street Journal about doing hundreds of escape rooms together in countless cities, which is not a cheap pastime.

Sarah and Bryan Baeumler own an island oasis for water sports

HGTV Canadian stars Sarah Baeumler and Bryan Baeumler have a combined net worth of $20 million, and they know how to spend it. The married couple has co-hosted numerous hit shows, including “Disaster DIY,” “Disaster DIY: Cottage Edition,” “Leave It to Bryan,” “House of Bryan,” and “Renovation Island.” In the last-mentioned show, the duo spent $2 million to purchase the Emerald Palms resort on South Andros Island, Bahamas. They then spent an additional $10 million to renovate and revamp the former resort into what is now their Caerula Mar Club. They initially expected to spend around $4 million on the renovation project, but ultimately far exceeded their budget. For the average fan of the Baeumlers looking to stay at their Caerula Mar Club, it costs around $500 to over $1,000 a night, depending on the type of room and time of stay.

The Baeumlers have spent a lot of money to maintain their lifestyle, which includes expensive hobbies. The family is known to love an array of water sports, including boating, fishing, waterskiing, and wakeboarding, and exploring dive sites with their scuba diving certifications. Any fellow water sports enthusiast can attest to the hefty price tag for each of these activities alone.

Their favorite activities have led them to own numerous boats over the years. They even own a tropical property in the Florida Keys, where they keep a dedicated boat for making trips to the Bahamas. In 2022, the Baeumlers also bought their own private plane that Bryan learned to pilot himself to help save on all their roundtrip flights.

Chip and Joanna Gaines have spent millions on their Magnolia Empire

Chip Gaines and Joanna Gaines are two of the most recognizable faces from the popular home network. Their combined net worth is a staggering $50 million, making them the wealthiest HGTV couple. Made famous by the smash-hit show “Fixer Upper,” the duo rose to stardom and riches that have now expanded into their Magnolia Empire. In 2019, the couple invested $10.4 million to expand their Magnolia Market at the Silos in their hometown of Waco, Texas. The market includes a large retail center outfitted with shops, restaurants, gardens, and bakeries. Their Magnolia Empire also spans across mediums, including books, boutique rentals, home decor, a magazine, and their own TV network. According to an OK! USA source, the power couple’s Magnolia Empire alone has an estimated worth of $750 million.

Chip and Joanna flaunt their wealth while spending their deep pockets on smart investments and luxurious items. In 2025, they spent $5.5 million on a 1960s Colorado mountain home that they planned to renovate for the limited HGTV series “Fixer Upper: Colorado Mountain House.” They have frequently traveled to Colorado for ski trips and for spring break, making it the ideal location for an investment property. Their closet also screams money as they get dolled up for fancy events. At the 14th Annual Tim Tebow Foundation Celebrity Gala and Golf Classic in 2025, Joanna donned a floral $798 Mac Duggal gown for the spring festivity. Both Chip and Joanna were also photographed in 2023 dressed to the nines at a White House state dinner, an event suitable for their lavish lifestyle.

Christina Haack promotes her luxurious lifestyle

While Christina Haack’s three divorces may have cost her a lot of her wealth, she still boasts an impressive $25 million net worth. She co-hosted HGTV’s “The Flip Off” and “Flip or Flop” with her ex-husband, Tarek El Moussa, where the couple rose to fame together after signing their first deal with HGTV in 2012. She then starred in her own show, “Christina on the Coast,” for five seasons until it was canceled in July 2025. During the show’s run, she also had a spin-off called “Christina in the Country” with her third ex-husband, Josh Hall. The reason for Haack’s cancellation may have been the high price tag of renovation shows driven by the rising cost of construction materials; according to Deadline, HGTV’s shows of this nature can cost a whopping $500,000 per episode. Despite the cancelation, Haack is enjoying her $12 million home in Newport Beach, California.

Haack has used her HGTV riches for other endeavors outside the network. She launched Clé Cachée Champagne, which targets consumers by selling the image of luxury. The posts on the company’s Instagram depict a lavish lifestyle most will never obtain, with champagne bottles posed beside designer clothes and fancy glasses on a swanky backdrop. Marketed as “a pure expression of Grand Cru Chardonnay” created by Haack, the company’s website promises “a bottle that brings modern luxury.” She also partnered with her ex-husband’s current wife, Heather Rae El Moussa, to help promote her new lip gloss.

The HGTV star is not shy about flaunting her fortune. She regularly sports Louis Vuitton bags, bathing suits, and other designer clothes that can cost thousands a piece on her Instagram. Her lavish spending habits also include her frequent traveler lifestyle, where she is often pictured in tropical destinations, in the mountains, or on a boat.
