Heroic Queensland Resident’s Daring Citizen’s Arrest Caught on CCTV – A Must-See Act of Bravery

0
A Queensland man bravely stopped a group of alleged teenage criminals in their tracks on the Gold Coast, performing a citizens arrest alone at night.
The moment Gavin Perry confronted the group, armed only with a baseball bat in hand, was captured on CCTV.

On a Wednesday afternoon in Mudgeeraba, Perry’s instincts were on high alert as he observed a white Haval pulling up near his residence.

“I noticed three individuals exit the vehicle and sprint down the street, which seemed quite unusual,” Perry recounted to 9News.

Adding to the oddity, a police helicopter was hovering overhead at the same moment.

Without hesitation, Perry dashed inside, grabbed his phone, and immediately contacted the authorities.

While many might have chosen to stay indoors, Perry boldly ventured outside, armed with his trusty baseball bat.

“I didn’t know if they had knives or not, I didn’t know if they were armed with anything at all,” he said.

“I wanted to be between them and the car, I did not want them getting back in that car.”

Confronting the gang as they approached him, two teens fled but another wasn’t so lucky.

“He was crying, he was a mess,” Perry said.

“He’s a young kid he shouldn’t be out at night at that hour.”

Quick-thinking led Perry to flash his phone torch to get PolAir’s attention with a police car arriving on the scene “about 30 seconds later”.

The boy was immediately arrested but police are still searching for his friends.

The arrested 15-year-old will spend Easter behind bars after being remanded in custody and facing charges of stealing and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

He’s due to appear before the Southport Children’s Court later this month.

The trio are accused of stealing the car from Tegan Kelly’s Oxenford home that same day.

“You feel just defeated and empty and gross and sick and just constantly on edge,” Kelly said.

Traumatised but thankful for the help of a stranger.

“I’d say he’s definitely a hero, an absolute hero,” she added.

Perry doesn’t think so but he has earned himself a new nickname.

“One of them called me batman ’cause I had a bat in me hand but that’s about all,” he laughed.

Trump Requests Massive Budget Amid $1B Daily Expenditure on Iran Conflict

0

President Donald Trump has unveiled a budget plan that proposes a staggering $1.5 trillion for the Pentagon, reflecting his administration’s focus on military funding. Released on Friday, this budget request highlights the shifting priorities towards defense spending.

Amidst the ongoing conflict with Iran, Trump has emphasized the need for increased military expenditure while suggesting a reduction in allocations for social programs. During an Easter lunch on Wednesday, he reportedly remarked, “We’re fighting wars, we can’t take care of daycare,” in a session that was inadvertently shared online despite being closed to the media.

The financial toll of the war with Iran is significant, reportedly costing U.S. taxpayers over $1 billion daily. Pentagon representatives informed legislators in mid-March that the initial six days of the engagement had already accumulated expenses exceeding $11.3 billion.

While the President annually presents his budget proposal, the real power lies with Congress, which has the responsibility to translate these priorities into actionable spending decisions.

Every year, the President releases his own budget, but it’s up to Congress to put those priorities into action.

For the next fiscal year, the White House asked for the Pentagon to receive $1.15 trillion in discretionary spending – amounting to a 28 percent increase – and another $350 billion in mandatory spending – which overall amounts to a 40 percent hike over fiscal year 2026.

At the same time, the President is calling for 10 percent of the budget to be slashed on non-defense programs.

He’s excused some of those cuts by arguing they don’t line up with his administration’s priorities.

President Donald Trump speaks in the Cross Hall Wednesday night about the war in Iran. On Friday, the White House released its dream budget, which includes $1.5 trillion in funding for the Pentagon

In the rollout of the budget, the White House included fact sheets entitled ‘Cuts to Woke Programs’ and ‘Ending the Green New Scam.’

Many of the programs on the chopping block focus on minority communities, which the White House argues have been ‘weaponized’ or are too closely aligned with ‘Black Lives Matter.’

The budget proposal asks Congress to cancel $15 billion in clean energy dollars that were part of President Joe Biden’s 2021 Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

It also asks lawmakers to defund refugee resettlement aid programs, instead focusing funds on removing immigrants from the United States.

It asks Congress to keep Immigration and Customs Enforcement funds at the same level so ICE can continue opening detention centers, with the aim of having 100,000 beds for adults and 30,000 for families.

The government is currently in a partial shutdown over the parties’ disagreements over ICE, with Democrats refusing to agree to funding the Department of Homeland Security unless changes are made to immigration enforcement after two Americans were killed by border agents in Minneapolis.

On Thursday, Trump announced he would sign an executive order to have all DHS employees paid, after previously ensuring that Transportation Security Administration workers would get their paychecks amid airport chaos.

Republicans worked out a deal to end the shutdown earlier this week, but both houses of Congress remain on recess for another week.

Trump’s budget also called for a 13 percent increase in the Department of Justice.

On Thursday, Trump fired Attorney General Pam Bondi, making her the second Cabinet member out of a job in just under a month.

The DOJ funding boost would be focused on prosecuting violent criminals.

The Trump budget also asked for a $10 billion fund housed by the National Park Service, to beautify Washington, D.C.

Trump also asked for $605 million to keep the National Guard deployed in the nation’s capital.

The budget is prepared by Trump’s Office of Management and Budget Director Russ Vought, who the President likes to refer to as ‘Darth Vader,’ due to his ruthless role in dismantling government programs.

During the Wednesday Easter lunch, Trump looked around the East Room for his Star Wars villain.

‘And Darth Vader, where’s Darth Vader? Russ Vought. Hi Darth, hi Darth Vader,’ the President said.

Investigation Reveals Astonishing Truth Behind Arizona Girl’s Safe Return Decades After Disappearance

0

A case that mystified Arizona for nearly 30 years has taken an unexpected turn. A girl, believed to have been abducted in 1994, has been discovered alive, and authorities now assert that she left willingly.

This week, the Gila County Sheriff’s Office disclosed that Christina “Tina” Marie Plante, who disappeared from Star Valley at the tender age of 13, is alive and well at 44. This revelation brings a long-standing mystery to a conclusion.

The narrative surrounding her disappearance is being re-evaluated in light of new information from a key investigator.

Capt. Jamie Garrett, a specialist in cold cases who played a crucial role in locating Plante, expressed astonishment upon learning that the teenager had run away instead of being kidnapped.

“I guess she wasn’t happy with where she was living and who she was living with, and she ran away,” Garrett told NewsNation Thursday.

“I was dumbfounded,” Garrett added. “I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh. OK, so you ran away.’ I told her, ‘You know, we were under the impression that somebody kidnapped you. It was deemed a criminal offense.’”

Plante was last seen around midday May 15, 1994, leaving her home in Star Valley on foot. According to her missing person flyer, she told others she was heading to a nearby horse stable but never returned. Investigators at the time classified the case as “missing/endangered” under suspicious circumstances.

She was described as having blue eyes and dark blonde hair and was last seen wearing a white T-shirt, multicolored shorts and black tennis shoes.

Her disappearance prompted an extensive search, but authorities were unable to develop meaningful leads. Over time, the case went cold, though it remained open and was periodically revisited by investigators.

Garrett said he recently focused on a lead involving an adult woman he believed could be Plante and reached out directly. The woman confirmed her identity, according to Garrett.

The investigator said Plante indicated she left on her own with help from relatives she had been in contact with at the time.

“She said that was a long time ago, that was an old life,” Garrett said. “She’s in her adult life. She has her family now. That’s not something she even thinks about.”

Garrett also told NewsNation she does not believe there are immediate family members in the Star Valley area still searching for Plante.

Authorities have not released further details about where Plante has been or the circumstances surrounding her departure, citing her privacy..

The development marks a significant shift from the assumptions that guided the early investigation, which for years centered on the possibility Plante had been abducted.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Gila County Sheriff’s Office for comment but did not immediately receive a response.

Influencer Faces Criticism for Encouraging Teen Daughter’s Dance Moves

An influencer from the Gold Coast has stirred controversy after posting a video that sparked criticism for encouraging her young daughter to twerk.

Kat Clark, who moved to the United States with her husband Jonathan and their teenage daughter Deja last year, found herself at the center of an online backlash on Saturday following the release of the clip on Instagram.

In the video, the 39-year-old TikTok personality asked her 15-year-old daughter to ‘turn around and shake it,’ leading Deja to start twerking on camera.

After Deja completed her dance, Kat playfully suggested there had been a mix-up, adding, ‘I meant your hair.’

This prompted Deja to remove her hat and whip around her curly hair instead.

Many fans shared their support for the mother-daughter duo, commenting that they were ‘obsessed’ with Deja as they told her to ‘get it’.

However, some pointed out that it was inappropriate for Deja to be dancing in such a manner online because she was just ‘a kid’.

‘Umm she’s 15 yo!’ one person wrote, while another added: ‘She’s a kid.’

‘Underage btw [and your] daughter,’ a third added.

‘A mother encouraging her 15 year old to shake her a*** on the internet for thousands of people,’ began someone else.

‘WOW! And people encouraging it even. These comments are gross.’

Daily Mail has reached out to Kat for comment.

Kat last courted controversy in June 2025 when she was slammed for complaining about living in Los Angeles while anti-ICE protests raged through the city.

As locals dealt with a fourth day of riots in California, Marines and the National Guard hit the streets to ‘address the lawlessness’ of protesters.

However, Kat appeared oblivious to the chaos at the time as she uploaded a vlog about her daily inconveniences in LA.

‘Australians and Americans may speak the same language, but today proved we live completely different lives. Firstly, why is there no good coffee in LA?’ she began.

‘They also take security very seriously,’ she added as she showed footage of storefronts locked up with security gates.

Kat then went on to complain about people not using towels at the gym.

‘These are just the small things I’ve noticed since moving here. Wait until you see what else I learned,’ she continued.

‘They love their ranch. They’ve got litres of it. They even have tuna flavoured bacon ranch. That sounds gross,’ Kat added as she visited a Ralphs grocery store.

‘I’m not going to lie, they have a lot of questionable things here, but they also have a lot of things that just make sense.’

Followers flocked to the comments of the video to slam Kat for appearing to ignore the riots and military presence throughout LA.

‘U not been on the news?’ one person wrote, as another added: ‘Kat completely oblivious to what’s happening in LA right now.’

Kat responded to the comments, explaining she was aware of what had been happening in the city.

‘I hear you and I’ve been following everything closely,’ she said.

‘As someone on a visa, I have to be mindful about what I say, but please know I’m listening, learning and supporting where I can.’

Tragic Family Dispute: Brother Fatally Attacks Sibling Amid Ex-Wife Allegations

Background: The section of North 47th Street in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where the shooting occurred (Google Maps). Inset left: Brandon Smith (Milwaukee County Sheriff”s Office). Inset right: Justin Smith (Informed Choice Funeral Home).

A Wisconsin jury has convicted a man of shooting and killing his brother, driven by the belief that the victim was involved with the suspect’s wife and intended to harm him.

Brandon Smith, aged 51, was found guilty of first-degree reckless homicide for the death of his 41-year-old brother, Justin Smith, as reported by Milwaukee’s Fox affiliate, WITI. Initially, he faced charges of first-degree intentional homicide.

The incident occurred in the early hours of February 26, 2025, at their mother’s residence on the 4900 block of North 47th Street in Milwaukee, as detailed in a criminal complaint obtained by Law&Crime. Brandon Smith had been residing there since September, following his divorce.

Their mother expressed concerns that her older son had become increasingly paranoid and was displaying signs of mental health issues. She noted he rarely left the house and was unemployed. According to her, Brandon was convinced that Justin was romantically involved with his ex-wife, though she insisted this was not the case.

The affidavit reveals that Brandon believed his brother was tracking him through his phone and had intentions to kill him. He also suspected Justin had invited another man to their home to attack him, despite admitting he never saw anyone else present.

At about 4 a.m. on Feb. 26, 2025, the defendant accused his brother of having a man over in order to harm him. Justin Smith “remained in his own room and would not engage in the argument,” said the mother, who added that no one other than the three of them was in the house.

Still, Brandon Smith was “agitated” and called the police. Officers arrived and then left, but the argument between the brothers did not end.

The mother “had to break them up to go to their respective bedrooms,” a detective wrote in the complaint. But Brandon Smith said he “still did not feel safe” so he started “patrolling” the home by walking up and down the stairs.

At the time, the mother was in the living room. She said she heard her elder son “saying he believed people were out to kill him,” but he returned up the stairs, and she fell asleep.

The defendant claimed he could hear Justin Smith and another man on the phone and believed his brother “was determined” to hurt him, so he “grabbed the first thing he saw in the kitchen, a hammer, and confronted the victim in the kitchen.”

The mother awoke to “the victim screaming.” When she rose, she saw the two brothers fighting on the ground, with Brandon Smith on top and his younger brother “bleeding from the head.”

Brandon Smith had hit his younger brother twice in the head with the hammer, the complaint said. The mother rushed to break them up and grabbed the hammer as Justin Smith went into his bedroom, per the court document.

The defendant then “retrieved his handgun” and shot his younger brother in the chest, according to the complaint. The defendant told investigators that he saw Justin Smith fall to the ground. According to the complaint, the boys’ mother came into the bedroom and started screaming and trying to help her younger son, but Brandon Smith reportedly “would not let her go.”

As the complaint states, Brandon Smith “felt like he still needed to protect himself.” He went to wash up but “refused” to let his mother call 911.

The mother eventually got the chance to call authorities. Brandon Smith reportedly ranted about the Bible, Cain and Abel, and how his brother and their neighbors wanted to kill him. He later told police that he and his brother “had never pulled guns on each other before.”

Police arrived at the home around 6:43 a.m. and spoke with the mother. As she walked an officer by a room where Brandon Smith was, she said, “this [is] the one that hurt the other one.” In another bedroom, the officer saw Justin Smith on the ground “surrounded by blood.”

Justin Smith was pronounced dead at the scene. He had “multiple blunt force injuries to his head and face, and his clothing was covered in blood.” An autopsy found that his cause of death was a gunshot wound to the chest.

The gun used in the shooting was recovered by police. Brandon Smith was arrested.

He is set to be sentenced on June 5.

Artemis II Astronauts Share Stunning Images of Earth’s Azure Splendor En Route to the Moon

Another photograph showcases our planet in its entirety, adorned with white cloud formations swirling above the vast oceans. A green aurora is also visible, according to NASA.

“It’s astounding to realize that apart from our four astronaut colleagues, every one of us is captured in this photograph,” noted Lakiesha Hawkins, a leader in NASA’s exploration systems. She confirmed the mission’s smooth progress.

By late Friday, Wiseman and his team were over 180,000 kilometers away from Earth, rapidly closing in on the moon with another 240,000 kilometers remaining. They are expected to arrive by Monday.

Unexpected Auto Repair Bills: Why You Might Be Charged for Other Drivers’ Damages

0

Typical of California.

On the West Coast, those in power, from governors to lawmakers and officials, enthusiastically push their vision of an ideal society—and it’s the residents who foot the bill.

The latest initiative involves using taxpayer funds to subsidize private electric vehicle repairs.

It seems absurd.

Launched on March 30, this state program allows certain electric vehicle owners to receive up to $7,500 from taxpayers to aid in the repair of EV batteries or fuel cells.

Or if the battery’s beyond repair, taxpayers will hand over $10K toward the purchase of a new, personal EV.

Gavin Newsom speaking at a rally in Houston.
The governor, legislators and regulators have their heads in the clouds. AP

What a racket.

If state officials find you deserving (i.e., you’re a low-income EV owner), congratulations.

If they don’t … prepare to pay up.

The program –– run by the California Air Resources Board and dubbed the Zero-Emission Assurance Project –– is the product of AB 193, passed by the Legislature and signed by former Gov. Jerry Brown in 2018.

And it’s (yet) another example of the disconnect between the state’s ruling class and reality.

First: California motorists don’t want to be told what to drive –– or made to pay the bills of those who made “enlightened,” state-approved choices.

Second: We should all be able to agree that motorists (yes, even those with low incomes) should cover their own car-repair bills.

It’s basic personal responsibility. It’s also wrong to saddle taxpayers with other people’s personal costs.

And third: A state running a budget with billions in annual red ink should end the frivolous spending.

Can anyone claim, with sincerity, that subsidizing personal car repairs is  among the Top 100 –– or even 500 –– priorities for state spending?

This program is a classic case of California’s partisan, Utopian, virtue-signaling lunacy.

As per the usual arrangement:

The governor, legislators, and regulators have their heads in the clouds and their hands in our pockets.

Enough already.

Tragic Chicago Heights Collision: Two Lives Lost, Three Teens Injured in Fiery Crash Near Key Intersection

0

In a tragic event that unfolded in Chicago Heights, Illinois, two drivers lost their lives and three young individuals were rushed to the hospital following a catastrophic car crash late Friday. The accident, which occurred in the south suburbs, presented a challenging situation for investigators due to adverse weather conditions, including lightning and heavy rain.

The collision took place at the bustling crossroads of Chicago Road and Joe Orr Road, where five vehicles were involved in the wreck. The scene was one of devastation, with twisted metal and flames creating a chaotic environment. Emergency responders faced a race against time, as they urgently worked to rescue the injured and manage the aftermath.

ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch

Witnesses observed several people being transported by ambulance from the site of the crash. Unfortunately, two drivers were declared deceased at the scene. Meanwhile, three juveniles were conveyed to nearby hospitals for medical attention. As of yet, authorities have not released further details regarding the identities, genders, or precise ages of those involved.

Several people were seen being taken away in ambulances.

Two drivers were pronounced dead at the scene and three juveniles were taken to area hospitals, Chicago Heights police said. Their identities, genders and exact ages were not yet known.

“It’s beyond belief. I’ve never seen anything like that before,” said Maria Garcia, who works nearby. “I’ve seen accidents, but not like this.”

Witnesses told ABC7 the crash involved at least four or five vehicles and it happened around 4:30 p.m. Loved-ones of some of the victims were inconsolable at the scene.

“It was like a demolition derby, you know,” said Rivers West, who drove past the crash scene. “It was cars everywhere, you know, and people were laying all out on the grass. It was crazy.”

West captured dramatic images minutes after the crash and saw multiple bodies in the street.

“They had one on fire, and it was popping, like it was going to blow up or something like that,” West said. “They made us get back.”

ABC7 is still waiting for more information from Chicago Heights police, but the severity of the damage suggested a high rate of speed.

At least one vehicle ended up in grass, and a power pole was snapped, leaving hundreds of nearby ComEd customers without electricity. ComEd said at least 353 customers were without power as a result of the crash.

“I just feel sad because, I mean, such a tragedy should not happen,” Garcia said.

ABC7 spoke off camera with relatives of at least three possible victims at the scene. They had been waiting for hours for information on their loved-ones.

Chicago Heights police said they don’t have any details yet about exactly what happened, but they will have answers once they wrap up the investigation.

Iconic Vegas Strip Faces Challenge as Popular Burger Chain Closes

0

Las Vegas faces another setback as a longstanding burger institution decides to exit the city.

The renowned fast-food brand White Castle has declared the impending closure of its establishment on the Las Vegas Strip at Casino Royale, along with its venue on Marks Street in Henderson.

In a heartfelt social media announcement, the company expressed, “After more than a decade of incredible memories, we’ve reached the tough decision to shut down our Strip and Henderson locations. Our final day of operation will be March 30, 2026.”

Despite these closures, the 105-year-old chain, celebrated as America’s pioneering fast-food burger spot and known for its iconic square sliders, will maintain its presence in Las Vegas at 107 N. Fourth St. and 4501 Paradise Road.

Additionally, a location near the Nevada-California border in the quaint desert town of Jean will continue to welcome customers.

Customers reminisced about the longstanding locations being shuttered. One user wrote on Instagram: ‘In front of this location my husband and I decided to get married seven years ago.’

Another added: ‘Wow. That was always a must-stop when visiting Vegas since we don’t have them in California.’

Founded in 1921, White Castle has endured in the fast food industry for more than a century.

Unlike many of its larger competitors, the privately-owned chain has not relied on franchising to finance its growth, instead owning all of its US locations.

The closures stem from a company acquisition from a local licensee. As part of the deal, White Castle is buying three of the five Southern Nevada locations, including four in the Las Vegas Valley and one in Jean.

The news comes as Las Vegas faces mounting pressure across its tourism-driven economy.

The city drew about 3.1 million fewer visitors in 2025, a 7.5 percent drop – its sharpest decline outside the pandemic since record-keeping began in 1970, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.

Passenger traffic also declined, falling about 6 percent in 2025 at Harry Reid International Airport, which is served by major carriers including American Airlines, Southwest Airlines and Allegiant Air. December traffic – typically boosted by holiday travel – fell an even steeper 10.3 percent.

While conventions remain relatively strong, the weakness is in leisure travel – the city’s lifeblood.

‘I think this is more of a microcosm of where the American consumer is than necessarily telling us where the American economy is going,’ said Andrew Woods, who heads the Center for Business and Economic Research at the University of Nevada.

Woods noted that other major destinations, such as Honolulu and Orlando, as well as Disneyland, are not seeing the same downturn, suggesting Las Vegas may be particularly exposed due to rising costs and fees.

Officials and executives say the city is also coming off two record-breaking years and is now settling into a more balanced market.

The shift is most noticeable midweek, when hotels rely on steady occupancy to support operations. When demand softens, resorts often respond with promotions, discounted rooms or added perks.

From Monday to Thursday, the Las Vegas Strip looks noticeably different: self-parking garages are less crowded, while valet lanes continue to move steadily.

Data from Placer.ai shows the weekday share of foot traffic on the Strip has been declining, while weekend traffic has grown, reaching 35.3 percent in 2025, up from 33.8 percent in 2019.

Visitors and industry insiders point to a mix of factors behind the slowdown, including political uncertainty and tighter travel budgets.

One tourist, Fernanda Loiza from Guatemala, said some international travelers may be hesitant due to stricter immigration enforcement, adding that some are wary of ‘coming and openly and freely enjoying Las Vegas.’

International visitors are particularly important, as they tend to stay longer and spend more. Tour guide Michael Hillman said rising prices are also putting people off.  ‘Ten bucks for a bottle of water,’ he said. ‘People don’t see a deal anymore.’

Major casino operators are already feeling the impact. MGM Resorts International reported declines in revenue and earnings at its Las Vegas properties in the fourth quarter and across 2025, citing weakness at value-oriented resorts such as Luxor and Excalibur.

Meanwhile, Caesars Entertainment said profit and revenue fell at its Las Vegas segment, with full-year profit down about 20 percent on a roughly 5 percent decline in revenue.

Hotels have increasingly leaned on discounts and incentives since late 2025. Data from CoStar Group shows midweek revenue per available room dropped by about 11 percent last year.

‘Las Vegas remains a predominantly leisure-driven hotel market,’ said Michael Stathokostopoulos. He added that inflation and economic uncertainty are prompting travelers to skip trips, shorten stays or trade down.

Airlines have also scaled back, with data from Cirium showing US carriers have scheduled about 7 percent fewer seats into Las Vegas for the first quarter of 2026 compared with a year earlier.

Economists say years of add-on fees and rising prices have left visitors feeling they are paying more for less – a model that is increasingly difficult to sustain as inflation continues to weigh on household budgets.

The next test for Las Vegas will come this spring, as Americans begin booking summer travel. One early indicator will be drive-in traffic from Southern California, a key feeder market for the city.

Taye Diggs recently joined Drew Barrymore for a conversation about his eagerly anticipated return to Broadway and the joys and challenges of parenting a teenage son who, as Diggs humorously admitted, might just outshine him in the coolness department.

Diggs, who co-parents his son Walker with former spouse Idina Menzel, shared how their relationship has evolved as Walker has grown older.

“My son is now 16, and in the last couple of years, it’s like our roles have swapped. Walker is the coolest person I know, and all I want to do is earn his approval. I have to remind myself that I’m still the parent,” Diggs reflected.

He noted that Walker is now in that quintessential teenage phase, where conversations are brief and reactions are often understated.

“He’s just so laid-back and tends to be concise with his words—you know, typical teenage behavior,” Diggs remarked.

“But he’s so just chill and he’s so like short with his [words], you know, he’s being a teenager,” Diggs said.

He described how their day-to-day interactions have changed over time.

“I remember I drop him off at school and he would be the first one to say, ‘What are we going to talk about, Dad?’ Now, he says nothing and my first reaction is to try to make conversation.”

He admitted that learning to navigate that shift hasn’t been easy, especially when instincts tell him to fill the silence.

“Which as a normal human being, that’s what you want to do,” he said. “But with teenagers, that all that does is get on their nerves.”

Instead, Diggs has adjusted his approach, choosing to give Walker space and let conversations happen naturally.

“I said, ‘Let me just lay back and when he wants to speak, I’ll be there.’ And that’s what works,” he explained.

Despite the growing independence, Diggs said moments still come when he sees the affectionate side of his son again, and those moments mean more now than ever.

“When he came to the show, it meant so much to me and every once in a while he’ll drop back into the loving, affectionate kid he used to be before he was Mr. Cool,” he said. “I was more nervous with him in the audience than [with] other celebrities. It was crazy.”

He added that his son’s opinion carries a different kind of weight.

“And I really wanted him to think I was good… I just wanted to impress him.”

Alongside the conversation about fatherhood, Diggs also reflected on how his Broadway schedule differs from his TV and movie schedule.

“You have a full day. You don’t have to be to the theater until 7:30 and then if you’re lucky, you can be out by 10:00. And because you’re only in character for that 2 hours, it’s easier to come back to real life, you know.”
