When Firecityfunk had about 10,000 followers, he posted the video. He went to bed that night without giving it much thought, but when he woke up the next day, his video had thousands of views.

A-list musicians and actors such as Herman Li and Meghan Trainor commented on the video shortly after it went viral. Music critic Anthony Fantano described the song as a banger.

Surrender To Me was posted on TikTok on January 5, 2022, with Firecityfunk asking people to blow up the song so he could convince his father to release it.

The viral song has received over 3 million views and 868.3k likes. It was an unreleased song written by his father.

On February 3, the R&B pop song was released under the moniker FireCityFunk.
