One of the two pilots who survived Sunday’s fatal Amazon Prime cargo jet crash at Miami International Airport had previously highlighted his focus on safety and careful decision-making during his aviation career, according to a LinkedIn profile reviewed by the Daily Mail.

First Officer Jaime Felipe Silva Molina, 37, was named as one of the pilots on board, along with Captain Joseph Carroll, 55, when the aircraft veered off the runway in a crash that killed five people.

On LinkedIn, Silva described himself as a pilot who excels in “dynamic environments where professionalism, communication and sound decision making are essential.”

“I remain committed to advancing my aviation career while contributing to safe, efficient and high-performing flight operations,” he wrote.

Silva, who was taken to hospital and later released, also wrote that his “professional foundation combines technical expertise, operational experience, and a strong commitment to safety, continuous improvement and teamwork.”

The Colombian-born commercial pilot moved from his native Bogota to Miami, where he built a life with his now wife Lorena Arevalo.

And social media posts reveal how Silva even used his passion for aviation to pull off an elaborate proposal to Arevalo six years ago. 

Photos show he flew over to reveal a massive ‘MARRY ME’ sign spelled out on the lawn, before getting down on bended knee on the tarmac. 

The couple later posed with champagne and the new rock on his then-fiancée’s finger, alongside a light aircraft. 

He even documented the romantic surprise in a nine-minute video titled ‘A proposal to remember in the air,’ and teasing in the caption: ‘she has no idea what is about to happen.’

The footage shows the couple buckled up in the plane and taking off, flying in the clear south Florida skies until he made his bride-to-be look down – where she spotted the marry me sign and was overcome, tearfully repeating, ‘te amo, te amo (I love you).’

Silva and Arevalo tied the knot two years later, with the groom commenting on a picture of his bride in her wedding dress: ‘I love you my beautiful doll.’

Other Facebook images offer glimpses into the couple’s life together in Miami’s Brickell neighborhood and other locations – while another shows Arevalo showing off a baby bump in April 2025.

Meanwhile, Silva further describes his professional background on LinkedIn as ‘diverse in flight instruction, passenger and cargo operations, aviation safety, and aeronautical education.’

He says he gained an aeronautical engineering degree from his native Colombia and now combines his commercial flying with continuing to study aeronautical science at Miami Dade College ‘with only a few courses remaining toward graduation.’ 

It is unclear when his profile was last updated.

‘Currently, I serve as a First Officer on the Boeing 767-300, supporting domestic and international cargo operations for major logistics partners including Amazon Air, DHL, and Cargojet,’ he says.

Both Silva and Carroll were hospitalized after the aircraft crashed while trying to land on Sunday – but have since been released.

Earlier on Tuesday, the five victims, who were traveling on the ground in a van, were identified as Rolando Aleman, 55, Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo, 53, Julio C Pineda, 75, Carlos Acosta Fajardo, 53, and Javierkys Reyes Quevedo, 47.

The aircraft slammed into the vehicle and then onto a local street where it destroyed an SUV. It is unclear how many people were in the SUV. 

The five victims were part of a group of seven passengers traveling in a van owned by Professional Ocean Service Corp., a contract cleaning company for airline companies, NBC News reported.

Three other people are still hospitalized, according to authorities. 

Eugenio Corredor, 79, and Ridoel Averhoff Diaz, 32, who were passengers in the van, are in critical condition. Roosevelt Sebastian Perdomo Torres, 36, who was on the ground, is in stable condition.

The plane was arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico – the aircraft’s third trip of the day, according to Homendy.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation, but a preliminary report by the Federal Aviation Administration found that the airport is not equipped with the Engineered Materials Arresting System that has been installed at more than 120 airports nationwide.

The system places beds of lightweight, crushable material at the end of a runway to help bring planes that overshoot the tarmac safely to a stop, the agency said.

Homendy said the plane overshot the runway, making it about 1,300ft past the paved surface.

Terrifying dispatch audio obtained by the Daily Mail revealed the horrific moment rescuers counted the dead after the crash.

‘This aircraft overran the runway and crossed 67th Avenue. It struck a truck,’ one emergency responder said, according to the audio.

‘We do have a patient on the ground. We’re looking at surveilling the area for more patients.’

An actor who first captured widespread attention in one of the 1980s’ most beloved movies looked dramatically different during a rare public appearance in Los Angeles this week.

Now 70, the veteran performer became a familiar face thanks to memorable supporting roles opposite several of the decade’s biggest names, among them Matthew Broderick, Sean Penn and Charlie Sheen.

His screen career carried into the 1990s with parts in prominent studio projects, including a Keanu Reeves-fronted action blockbuster and a Star Trek film, before he shifted more toward television later in the decade, sharing the screen with both Michael J. Fox and Charlie Sheen.

Following years of lower-profile appearances, he later enjoyed a fresh career resurgence with a standout role on an acclaimed HBO dramedy.

Off screen, the actor is married to a fellow performer who is 20 years younger than him.

He’s Alan Ruck of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off fame.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Ruck for comment but has not yet heard back.

Ruck was spotted running errands with one of the two children he shares with his wife, The Killing star Mireille Enos, who, at 50, is 20 years younger than him.

He was dressed casually for some shopping around town with a white T-shirt, slim gray sweatpants and matching gray Nike trainers.

Ruck was nearly unrecognizable compared to how he looked in his best-known project, the 1986 teen comedy Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.

The film, which was written, co-produced and directed by John Hughes, starred Matthew Broderick in the title role, while Ruck played his hypochondriac best friend Cameron Frye.

The film, about Ferris and his friends’ antics on a day playing hooky, was a hit with critics and viewers alike and helped cement Ruck’s fame.

The actor, who was born in Cleveland, Ohio, began acting in Chicago in the late ’70s, before he made his film debut in 1983’s Bad Boys, in which he played a friend of Sean Penn’s character. 

He worked with Brat Pack members Andrew McCarthy and Rob Lowe the same year in Class. 

In 1985, Ruck met Matthew Broderick when they starred in the original cast of Neil Simon’s 1985 play Biloxi Blues, and he made his Broadway debut when the show transferred from Los Angeles.

The friendship the two actors established proved to be pivotal, as it was Broderick who urged Ruck to audition for Ferris Bueller’s Day Off once he had been cast as the lead.

Ruck later told The Guardian that Hughes had originally envisioned Anthony Michael Hall in the title role, with Emilio Estevez playing the role of his friend Cameron 

Ironically, Ruck later worked with Estevez when he appeared in 1990’s Young Guns II.

As the ’90s progressed, he continued to score supporting roles in major films, but they tended to have considerably less screen time than the parts that made his name.

Ruck played one of the passengers on a hijacked bus in 1994’s Speed, which starred Keanu Reeves, Sandra Bullock and Dennis Hopper.

The same year, he had a small role as Capt John Harriman in Star Trek Generations, and in 1996 he played one of a group of storm trackers in Twister, starring the late Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt.

After appearing earlier in the decade in the short-lived sitcom Going Places and the sketch comedy series The Edge, Ruck increasingly took small guest roles to get by.

While speaking to The Guardian in 2021, Ruck said he had ‘attitude problems’ and struggles with alcohol that kept him from getting lucrative film roles at the time and forced him to work more in television, which didn’t have the cultural cachet that it now does.

‘I used to drink a lot. I don’t do that anymore,’ Ruck explained, adding: ‘There was always an excuse to take a drink. 

‘If things were not going well, I would have a drink. If things were going exceedingly well, I’d have many drinks,’ he recalled. ‘Then my manager at the time said, “I think you’re drinking too much.” I said, “What are you talking about?” She said, ‘There’s gotta be a reason why you’re not working, and this is the only thing I can think of.” I was so desperate at this point that I was willing to try anything, so I stopped.’

After laying off the booze, he scored a hit with a main cast role opposite Michael J. Fox on Spin City, which ran from 1996 to 2002. 

Fox led the series until 2000, when his Parkinson’s disease symptoms led him to withdraw and be replaced by Ruck’s former costar Charlie Sheen for the final two seasons.

He continued to be an in-demand actor in films and television for years to come, but a late-career triumph helped to revive his career and make him more popular than he had been in decades.

In 2018, Ruck debuted on Succession, the HBO dramedy about the billionaire Logan Roy (Brian Cox) and his children who vie for control of the media empire he built.

Ruck provided much of the comic relief as the oblivious oldest child Connor Roy, a clueless libertarian who largely avoided competing with his siblings, half-brothers Kendall (Jeremy Strong) and Roman (Kieran Culkin) and half-sister Siobhan (Sarah Snook), because he was occupied with grandiose visions of running for president despite having no accomplishments to his name.

The series, which concluded in 2023 after four seasons, was serenaded by critics, while Connor’s on-screen antics made Ruck a fan favorite.

In 2022 and 2024, Ruck and the rest of the main cast won Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series at the Screen Actors Guild awards, and he was also nominated for supporting actor honors at the 2024 Golden Globes and Primetime Emmys.

Ruck shares two children with his wife Mireille Enos, whom he met in 2005 when they starred on Broadway together. 

They share a daughter, Vesper Vivianne, and a son, Larkin Zouey, while Ruck also has two older children from his first marriage to actress Claudia Stefany, to whom he was married from 1984 to 2005. 

The light aircraft that crashed into a paddock south of Brisbane, killing a business owner and his daughter, had been fitted out with the comforts of a high-end private plane despite being nearly five decades old.

Built in 1979, the six-seat Beechcraft A36 Bonanza was advertised as offering an “experience like no other” before it was purchased by Queensland charter and aircraft rental company Telford Aviation for $350,000 in 2022.

On Monday, however, the aircraft came down shortly after 11am amid suspected engine trouble, killing 56-year-old Ian Campbell and his 23-year-old daughter, Hannah, in the crash at Chambers Flat, near Logan.

The pair had been airborne for only eight minutes when the flight ended in tragedy. People on the ground said they saw heavy smoke pouring from the engine not long after the plane took off.

Flight data reviewed by the Daily Mail indicated air traffic control at Brisbane’s Archerfield Airport cleared the aircraft for departure at 10.57am, but controllers had difficulty maintaining contact with the plane’s radio, which appeared to be cutting in and out.

The plane then took off, reaching 1,000ft at exactly 11am before a dramatic five-minute descent until it smashed into the field at 11.05am and burst into flames.

The Daily Mail understands Mr Campbell – who owned Barambah Organics and was an experienced flyer of over 25 years – had rented the plane from Telford Aviation.

Public flight records don’t reveal the final destination for the trip. It also appeared to be the aircraft’s first logged flight since July 31. 

The charter company bought the plane four years ago from a retired airline pilot who’d flown it around Australia, including numerous flights over water.

The former owner, a retired pilot, said in an advert for the plane’s sale in 2022 that ‘no expense had been spared’ in its renovation and upkeep since he bought it in 2004.

He had fitted a new engine and also ripped out its interior to install luxury private jet-style face-to-face lounge chair seating behind the pilot, and tailored floor coverings.

‘This aircraft represents a unique, perhaps once-in-a-lifetime, opportunity to purchase arguably the best series of Bonanza,’ the 2022 listing read.

‘A perfect blend of the shorter, faster and better handling wing with no ugly stall strips, 28-volt electrical system, double doors, club seating, rear cargo stowage and more. 

‘They simply don’t make them like this any more.

‘This airframe, paired with the perfect blend of updated avionics while still giving an old school feel, is a joy to fly… There is literally nothing to spend.’

The aircraft was originally built in the US in 1979 and delivered to Australia the same year on a transpacific ferry flight. 

‘The engine has been operated rich of peak for its entire life,’ the listing added.

‘The aircraft has never been used for circuits, practice engine failure simulations or any training for that matter… 

‘It has always been thoroughly warmed and cooled down, almost never operated for less than a 60-minute cruise at recommended RPM.’

The aircraft’s service record and flight history will now be a focus of the Australian Transport Safety Bureau’s investigation into the crash.

It is unclear if any mayday radio calls were made before the crash, and witnesses reported hearing the plane’s engine struggling with thick smoke billowing into the air.

Online aviation enthusiasts have speculated Mr Campbell may have been trying to make a controlled landing on the grass after an engine failure, but didn’t make it

ATSB’s Acting Chief Commissioner Colin McNamara said they will likely release a preliminary report into the crash in eight weeks, but a final report could be months away.

‘Three ATSB investigators were on site from Monday afternoon, and they have been examining the aircraft wreckage, including checking for flight control continuity, examining the engine and propeller, and recovering any recording devices – such as avionics equipment or GPS units – for download and analysis at our facilities in Canberra,’ he said.  

‘Once the aircraft and engine have been recovered they will also be available to the ATSB for further examination if required.’

Acting Chief Commissioner McNamara also thanked witnesses for providing ‘important information’ to investigators, after a number of people came forward to describe the aircraft’s engine as sounding like it was running rough or spluttering.
