Fatal NYC Gang Clash: One Dead, Another in Critical Condition

0

A violent altercation broke out in a Brooklyn park on Saturday afternoon, resulting in a fatal stabbing and another victim left critically injured. Police have identified the incident as a knife fight between rival Mexican gangs.

The clash unfolded in Dyker Beach Park, Dyker Heights, shortly before 2 p.m. According to law enforcement, a 30-year-old man suffered a stab wound to his abdomen, while a 21-year-old was wounded in the chest.

Police sources have confirmed the fight was linked to tensions among Mexican gangs, highlighting the ongoing issues of gang violence within the area.

Boston Duck Boat Accident Near Popular Tourist Site Leaves Six Injured

0

The duck boat accident occurred at a well-frequented tourist site in Boston, Massachusetts, and resulted in injuries to at least six people. The incident triggered a significant emergency response from rescue teams.

The vehicle toppled onto its side at a boat ramp in Cambridge, near the entry to the Charles River, state police informed News Media. Fortunately, none of the passengers ended up in the water, according to police statements.

The Cambridge Police Department reported that most of the injuries were minor, although two were described as “more serious” in nature.

Boston Duck Tours told News Media that while being towed on its boat ramp, the vehicle rolled onto its side when the tow-rope broke.

“As a precaution, we have suspended operations for the remainder of the day,” the company wrote in a statement. “We are working with Massachusetts State Police and the U.S. Coast Guard to review the incident.”

Since the incident happened directly at the entrance to the Charles River, Massachusetts State Police will lead the investigation.

The duck boats have been used several times in recent years to parade the region’s numerous championship teams through Boston, including the New England Patriots six times, the Boston Red Sox four times, the Boston Celtics twice, and the Boston Bruins in 2011.

North West Surprises with Bold Nose and Lip Studs

0

At the recent Paris Fashion Week, North West, the 13-year-old daughter of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, caught attention with eye-catching faux nose and lip piercings.

North, who is venturing into the world of music herself, stirred up a storm on social media last year after showing off a dermal piercing on her finger.

People criticized Kardashian for allowing her young daughter to undergo such a procedure, citing concerns about potential infections and her young age.

Despite the backlash, North stood firm against her critics, and earlier this year, she seemed to reveal that she had added two more dermal piercings to her collection. These new adornments are applied to different fingernails.

In May, she released a music video for her track, #N0rth4evr, where she appeared sporting two more face piercings; these were later revealed to be faux accessories.

When she was spotted at the Vetements show in Paris this weekend, North had a set of spiked studs around her mouth as well as more jewelry on her nose, though it was unclear whether she was once again wearing stick-on pieces.

The Daily Mail has contacted Kardashian’s representative for comment.

She also proudly displayed the jewelry on her Instagram page, posting images of herself at night with a view of the lit-up Eiffel Tower behind her.

North first revealed in August 2025 that she had obtained a dermal piercing consisting of two small metal balls under a knuckle of her right hand middle finger.

Dermal piercings are distinct from other piercings in that a tiny anchor hooked under the skin is used to keep the jewelry in place.

As a result, they come with risks like keloid scarring, infection and – if improperly looked after – even rejection by the wearer’s body.

North’s mother, who has spoken often about being her primary guardian, was thus raked over the coals for allowing her to get a dermal piercing so young.

However North responded by posting a TikTok in December in which she mimed to the sound-byte: ‘Why are you crying? How old are you? Just pull it together,’ with a caption that read: ‘this is for everyone that’s mad over a finger piercing.’

Undeterred by the brickbats her mother was receiving, North then apparently unveiled two further dermal finger piercings on her Insta Stories in January.

Last month, in the music video for her first solo single #N0rth4evr, she was shown strolling through a graveyard with two stick-on piercings under one of her eyes and another one placed near the top of her nose.

Much of the video was grainy and choppy, in a nod to ‘found footage’ horror movies like The Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity.

Her follow-up single was a collaboration with a fellow ‘nepo baby‘ – Lil Novi, the 16-year-old son of rap legend Lil Wayne and R&B songstress Nivea.

Lil Wayne and Kanye worked on a number of songs together in the 2000s, including the 2007 release Barry Bonds and the 2008 single See You in My Nightmares.

Their children’s new effort, entitled MULA THA ROOT OF ALL EVIL, is a cacophonous piece of music with a frenetically edited music video to match.

North materializes in the middle of the video with blue hair, seemingly wearing a set of grillz as well as a pair of spiky gauntlets.

North is one of the four children Kardashian and West welcomed into the world together – the others being Saint, 10, Chicago, eight, and Psalm, seven.

DCLM Daily Manna 28 June 2026 Devotional by Pastor W. F. Kumuyi — Day Of Feasting And Plotting

TOPIC: Day Of Feasting And Plotting (DCLM Daily Manna 28 June 2026)

KEY VERSE: In those days, while Mordecai sat in the king’s gate two of the king’s chamberlains, Bigthan and Teresh, of those which kept the door, were wroth, and sought to lay hand on the king Ahasuerus – Esther 2:21

TEXT: Esther 2:21-23 (KJV)

21 In those days, while Mordecai sat in the king’s gate, two of the king’s chamberlains, Bigthan and Teresh, of those which kept the door, were wroth, and sought to lay hands on the king Ahasuerus.

22 And the thing was known to Mordecai, who told it unto Esther the queen; and Esther certified the king thereof in Mordecai’s name.

23 And when inquisition was made of the matter, it was found out; therefore they were both hanged on a tree: and it was written in the book of the chronicles before the king.

DCLM Daily Manna For Today MESSAGE:

Abraham Lincoln, America’s 16th president, had just won a great victory in the nation’s civil war that preserved their union, ended slavery and created the possibility of social freedom for African Americans when he was assassinated on the evening of April 14, 1865. He was attending a special performance of the comedy, “Our American Cousin.” Lincoln was shot when the play was in progress by actor John Wilkes, who stepped into the presidential box with a pistol. The president slumped forward and died nine hours later at a boarding house opposite the theatre.

King Ahasuerus would have met a similar fate if not for the timely intervention of Mordecai, who worked at the palace gate. The king was hosting a great feast following Esther’s coronation as the nation’s new queen, with a guest list that included all the princes and governors of the provinces. Mordecai received information about a plot to assassinate the king by two of his chamberlains, Bigthan and Teresh. He immediately signalled the queen, and soon the king was informed. The two plotters were tried and executed after their plot was confirmed, and they were found guilty.

There are important parts here worthy of consideration. Mordecai stood at the gate in righteousness. He would not overlook evil in his vintage position. As believers today, we find ourselves manning important gates at our workplaces and in society. In your position, you are expected to report any act of corruption, cheating, or mismanagement to the authorities without compromise. Our societies would be better today if believers could be true to their calling, whether as leaders in government or the private sector.

Believers should understand that time is short and that our prime assignment on earth is to sound the alarm and warn the sinning world with the gospel. Like Mordecai, we must explain to the unsaved the danger they face and patiently lead them to Christ.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY
Withholding the gospel message from the unsaved amounts to disservice.

Rhapsody Of Realities 28 June 2026: Your Spirit Has Perfect Recall

Rhapsody Of Realities 28 June 2026 By Pastor Chris Oyakhilome (Christ Embassy): Your Spirit Has Perfect Recall

TOPIC: Your Spirit Has Perfect Recall (Rhapsody of Realities 28 June 2026)

But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding – Job 32:8

Rhapsody Of Realities For Today’s MESSAGE:

Have you ever heard some people say, “When I was much younger, my memory was perfect; I could remember anything. But now I’m sixty, and I don’t remember as much as I used to”? Never talk like that if you’re a Christian, because you don’t remember with your brain. You’ve got to understand this: your memory is not in your brain; it’s in your spirit.

Your spirit has perfect recall; it can recollect anything. The story the Lord Jesus told about Lazarus and a certain rich man in Luke 16:19-31 proves it. The Bible says that when Lazarus died, the angels carried him to Abraham’s bosom. They didn’t carry his body; it was his spirit.

Then the Bible says the rich man also died, was buried, and opened his eyes in hell. His body was in the earth but his spirit was conscious in hell. While in hell, the rich man could see, he could think, and he could recognize Lazarus. He even spoke and made requests. He asked Abraham to send Lazarus to bring him water (Luke 16:24).

That tells you something: his brain had been buried, but he still had his full memory, his full awareness. His spirit remembered. Then Abraham said something remarkable. He said, “…Son, REMEMBER that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented” (Luke 16:25). Think about that. He had been dead, buried and gone to hell; his brain was no more, but he was told to “remember.”

That means memory is beyond the brain. It is of the spirit. That’s why you must never say, “I forgot”; get that language out of your communication. The spirit never forgets, and you’re a spirit being. So never say, “I’m quite forgetful these days,” or “My memory is failing.” No. It doesn’t matter how old you are; your spirit doesn’t grow old. It doesn’t deteriorate, and it doesn’t lose capacity. Your spirit is alive, alert and full of divine ability. Live from your spirit and enjoy its perfect recall.

PRAYER

Dear Father, thank you for opening my understanding to the realities and abilities of my spirit. I function from my spirit, and my memory is sound, sharp and effective. I have a sound memory because my spirit is alive, alert and has perfect recall, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.

FURTHER STUDY

Luke 16:19-25 (KJV)
There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day: [20] And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores, [21] And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man’s table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores. [22] And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried; [23] And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. [24] And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame. [25] But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

1 Corinthians 2:9-11 (KJV)
But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. [10] But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. [11] For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God.

1 John 2:20 (KJV)
But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things.

Analyzing USMNT’s Possible Round of 16 Matchups: Key Insights and Predictions

0

Over the past two weeks, the U.S. team has been fueling a growing sense of optimism and confidence. However, the moment of truth in the World Cup is now arriving, where belief takes a backseat to performance.

Mauricio Pochettino’s team successfully navigated the challenges of the group stage, starting off with a commanding 4-1 victory against Paraguay. They then followed up with a solid 2-0 win over Australia, securing the top position in Group D, thanks to FIFA’s newly instituted head-to-head tiebreaker system.

With the pressure slightly off, the U.S. opted for a heavily altered lineup in their match against Turkey. Although they ended up losing 3-2 in a high-energy game, the crucial objective was to rest key players for the knockout stages, rendering the result mostly inconsequential.

Now, all attention is focused on the upcoming clash at Levi’s Stadium this Wednesday night.

The United States’ adversary, Bosnia and Herzegovina, is not the underdog that some might perceive. Having earned their World Cup berth by toppling Italy and defeating Wales, they proceeded to overcome Austria and Romania in the qualifiers. Such accomplishments make it crucial for the American squad to stay locked in on the task at hand and not look too far ahead.

But if the Americans do survive their first knockout test, then their next opponent is one of four teams that would be ready and waiting.

The Round of 16 at Lumen Field in Seattle on July 6 will be one of four familiar opponents for the United States. Based on current FIFA World Rankings, here’s how they stack up from the most favorable draw to the biggest nightmare.

1. South Korea (No. 31)

The Americans fell 2-0 to South Korea in September 2025, although that U.S. lineup looked nothing like Pochettino’s starting group. South Korea remains dangerous, but this is probably the matchup Team USA would welcome most.

2. Algeria (No. 29)

No American fan will ever forget Landon Donovan’s dramatic stoppage-time winner against Algeria at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The nations have met only once, making this the freshest and most unpredictable matchup of the four.

3. Senegal (No. 18)

The U.S. defeated Senegal 3-2 in a friendly on May 31 in North Carolina, ending Christian Pulisic’s lengthy scoring drought. Senegal’s athleticism and pace create problems for everyone, but recent success should give the Americans confidence.

4. Belgium (No. 10)

This is the opponent nobody in red, white and blue wants to see. Belgium dismantled the United States 5-2 in Atlanta on March 28, then finally found its rhythm with a 5-1 demolition of New Zealand in its World Cup group finale. The Red Devils suddenly look like a sleeping giant that’s wide awake.

Of course, Belgium also carries plenty of emotional baggage for American soccer fans.

The last World Cup meeting between these two countries came in the Round of 16 in Brazil in 2014. The Red Devils escaped with a 2-1 victory that saw Tim Howard produce one of the greatest goalkeeping performances in World Cup history, making a record 16 saves in a losing effort.

That memory still lingers, but so does the opportunity ahead.

If Team USA can dispatch Bosnia and Herzegovina, Seattle suddenly becomes the next stop on a World Cup journey that will have the momentum of the whole country behind them. Whether the opponent is South Korea, Algeria, Senegal or Belgium, there will be no easy game from here, but the Americans will have the home field advantage.

Exploring the Decline and Transformation of Chinese Restaurants

0

Food has always been a source of intrigue for chef Victor Liong. However, as he delved deeper into his Chinese roots, he discovered a key component was absent from his culinary repertoire.

Having honed his skills in some of Australia’s most renowned European-style restaurants, the 41-year-old was surprised to find how little he knew about the cuisine that defined his early years.

Liong’s Chinese family made a journey from Malaysia to settle in Brunei before migrating to Australia in the early ’90s when he was just six years old.

“As a chef, I came to the realization that although I loved the food I grew up with, I lacked the technical skills to connect with it,” he shares with SBS News.

Driven by this revelation, Liong embarked on a mission to rediscover the flavors of China, traveling across various regions and immersing himself in traditional cuisines. This journey ultimately solidified his culinary identity.

“My style is based around a flavour memory of my childhood and my cultural heritage and then trying to interpret that in a modern Australian dining and cultural context,” he says.

Liong’s search for these flavours reflects a broader evolution in Chinese Australian food. From gold rush cooks adapting recipes for hungry miners to a new generation of chefs reimagining regional dishes with local produce, reinvention has long been part of the cuisine’s story.

A man wearing round glasses and a white chef uniform holds a plate of fried food.

Now, as rising costs force some long-standing restaurants to close and diners seek new experiences, industry insiders say Chinese food in Australia is entering another period of transformation.

A cuisine in transition

Chefs like Liong are adapting dishes to entice a new generation of diners, fusing European techniques with local produce while preserving traditional Chinese flavours.

The shift comes as Australia’s Chinese restaurant sector faces significant challenges.

In recent years, several high-profile Chinese restaurants have closed, including in Sydney and Melbourne.

New data from CreditorWatch highlights the pressure facing the industry. Cafes, restaurants and privately owned takeaway outlets recorded a closure rate of 12.2 per cent in the year to 31 May — roughly one in eight businesses — compared with the national average of 6.7 per cent.

According to the fintech, the sector has been hit by rising wages, energy bills, rents, insurance premiums, interest rates and food and beverage costs. At the same time, the cost of living pressures are prompting many consumers to cut back on dining out or stop altogether.

“We expect conditions in the food services sector to remain challenging until consumers begin to feel relief from cost of living pressures, which is nowhere in sight at this stage,” CreditorWatch said in a statement to SBS News.

Sophie Loy-Wilson is a senior lecturer at the University of Sydney’s Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and a historian of Chinese Australian communities. She says tastes are also changing, as well-travelled modern diners seek “something new and different”.

“Customers want food that is more upmarket, more experimental, more unique, combining European techniques with Asian techniques. I do think that’s the future,” she tells SBS News.

Liong says his hatted Melbourne restaurant has spent the past 13 years exploring different interpretations of Chinese cuisine.

A hand holding a plate of honey chicken.

Celebrating local produce is one way to stand out in a crowded hospitality market while offering diners something distinctive.

In the kitchen, Liong explains a fresh take on traditional Peking Duck.

“The challenge is to keep the skin crisp without drying out the meat. So, we use a wet brine that keeps some of the moisture in the breast. Then we dunk it in a maltose and vinegar glaze to keep it crispy as it roasts.”

Reinventing tradition

Liong may be a culinary innovator, but he is far from the first.

For almost two centuries, Chinese chefs have adapted traditional dishes for Australian tastes. The process began when migrants from Hong Kong

and the Guangdong province of southern China arrived in Australia during the 1850s gold rushes and started feeding hungry miners.

“They grew and cooked fresh vegetables for malnourished European miners who were living on a diet of mutton and damper,” Loy-Wilson says.

A man in a hi vis jacket and a hat is using a traditional tool in a farmland.

“Chinese chefs found really clever ways to take cheaper meat and cook it to retain moisture and keep it succulent and fresh,” Loy-Wilson says.

“They adapted to local customs. For example, sizzling beef is like an Australian barbecue, but it’s on a little plate.”

She says the early Chinese diaspora “was not elite”.

“They were working men mostly, some women, and some were indentured labourers,” Loy-Wilson says.

“They built working-class communities and cooked food efficiently, serving up all parts of the animal with rice and home-grown vegetables.”

Loy-Wilson says market gardens and restaurants also became cultural refuges for Chinese migrants, some of whom were facing discrimination.

A restaurant became a ‘safe haven’ where culture could be displayed, families felt protected and were able to keep things private from the surveillance of white Australia.

Adapting food was also a survival strategy employed by generations of Chinese cooks.

Knowing that Europeans liked sugar in their tea, many made “sweet sauces to make meat more tasty”, Loy-Wilson says.

What Australians want to eat

More than 60 years after his grandfather opened a restaurant in Canberra, Gavin Chan is still navigating the same question: how much should a dish change to suit Australian tastes?

“Honey chicken is still our bestseller, by a long way,” the restaurateur tells SBS News.

A man in a black round-neck t-shirt stands inside a fine-dining restaurant.

“However, we have students who come here from China to attend university, and they would never order honey chicken because they find it way too sweet,” Chan says.

When you live in another country, then [local] customers dictate what works and what you sell as a business to survive and evolve.

Chan’s grandfather opened the restaurant in 1962, and he is proud to continue serving some of the original dishes.

“The Chinese Australian cuisine we know is authentic to Australia. It came from China but was changed for the Australian palate.”

It’s a process that continues today, Liong says: “The way we ate 20 years ago is different to the way we eat now, and it’s still moving.

“Historically, sweet and sour pork was a northern Chinese classic that was reinterpreted. Many traditional vegetables and fruits were swapped out for what was locally available, such as pineapple or strawberries.”

As Chinese Australian cuisine continues to evolve, Liong believes the possibilities are only expanding.

“Australian produce is one of the best in the world. I am proud to highlight what’s in season.

“The Australian dining scene remains very exciting and really does deserve its place on the world stage.”

This story was produced in collaboration with SBS Chinese.

Meghan Markle’s Attempt to Defy Protocol at 2018 Wimbledon Final with Kate Middleton

0

Meghan Markle’s unease with the established royal hierarchy appeared evident during her first joint public appearance with the now-Princess of Wales, following her marriage to Prince Harry.

During this engagement, the Duchess of Sussex, who is now 44, reportedly displayed signs of discomfort. According to a body language expert, Meghan seemed to attempt to ‘break rank’ as she accompanied Catherine to the Wimbledon Ladies’ Singles Final eight years ago.

On July 14, 2018, less than two months after tying the knot with Prince Harry, Meghan joined her sister-in-law for their inaugural royal engagement without their husbands.

The duo traveled to SW19 to cheer on Meghan’s long-time friend Serena Williams, who faced off against German player Angelique Kerber on the storied Centre Court at the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club.

While photographs captured Meghan and Catherine smiling and exchanging whispers as they intently watched the gripping final, a video clip from the event tells a seemingly different story.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Judi James has highlighted the ‘subtle’ tensions between Meghan and Catherine, who were dubbed the ‘duelling Duchesses’ by the time they returned to Wimbledon the following year amid heightened speculation they were in a feud.

Analysing a clip of the now-estranged sisters-in-law, Ms James highlighted Meghan’s reaction to realising ‘all eyes and smiles seemed to be aimed’ at Catherine.

As they were greeted outside the club in London, footage showed Catherine, dressed in a polka-dotted dress, walking in front of Meghan, as Ms James noted a ‘misstep in terms of behavioural expectations’.

The Duchess of Sussex, now 44, showed signs of ‘discomfort’ when she accompanied Catherine to the Wimbledon Ladies’ Singles Final eight years ago, a body language expert has said

‘There are hints from Meghan’s body language that suggest she expected this to be more of a friendship and double act appearance from start to finish,’ Ms James told The Daily Mail.

As Meghan got out of the car and walked around to join Catherine, she was seemingly ‘forced to wait’ for the future Queen, with Ms James suggesting ‘all eyes and smiles seemed to be aimed at Catherine’.

She highlighted how Meghan tried to shoot a ‘rather awkward looking “friendship” smile’ at Catherine, but Prince William’s wife was in ‘regal mode’ while carrying out the official engagement in her role as royal patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club.

Ms James said: ‘Meghan appears to throw Kate a rather awkward-looking “friendship” smile of public recognition, and there is a suggestion from this tie-sign that she expects to join Kate.

‘But Kate is in regal mode rather than friendship mode, and she steps out of the car to move and lean forward past Meghan, using a wide, professional “social” smile as she performs greeting rituals with her hosts rather than pulling Meghan forward to introduce her personally for them to work together.’

Since quitting the Royal Family, Montecito-based Meghan has displayed her ‘preferred style of cues, prompts, and leading rituals’ during public outings with Prince Harry.

Ms James noted how it is common for Meghan to take the lead and often speak over her husband in interactions with the press and members of the public, meaning the new Duchess likely found playing second fiddle to Catherine ‘puzzling’.

‘We’ve seen Meghan’s preferred style of cues, prompts and leading rituals with her body language with Harry since they left the UK,’ the body language expert explained.

‘When he veers into regal behaviours, she will often nudge herself forward, or step in first, so this hierarchical pecking order in the UK might easily have seemed puzzling to her.’

This becomes apparent when Meghan ‘performs a small gesture that implies some awkwardness’ while waiting for Catherine as she greeted her host.

‘As the two women go to walk towards the line-up, there is a host for each, but Meghan again seems to attempt to pair with Kate, stepping to speak to her,’ Ms James said.

At this point, Catherine’s smile ‘appears to drop slightly’ as she may have become aware of Meghan ‘breaking rank to change the formation’ before she rejoined her host for the event.

‘Meghan performs another gesture of what looks like awkwardness or indecision as she brings her arm up to touch the strands of her hair at the side of her face,’ Ms James said.

According to the body language expert, Meghan’s ‘discomfort’ becomes even clearer when the duo are introduced to the ball boys and girls, with Catherine leading the way.

‘Meghan expects to move on ahead to join [the now Princess of Wales] but her host [dressed in a pink dress] keeps her talking as she was probably aware of the “queuing” protocol and Meghan is held in a mid-step gesture as she tries to walk forward but her head is turned to listen to her host,’ Ms James said.

As a result, Meghan’s non-verbal responses ‘do hint at some discomfort’, she continued.

Ms James highlighted how Meghan ‘places one hand into the neck of her shirt, around her throat, suggesting vulnerability’ and ‘constantly touches her hair in a partial cut-off ritual’.

‘It’s not until the two Duchesses are seated in the royal box that there is any opportunity for Meghan to perform what would be seen as friendship rituals that might define a more equal-status social footing.’

Since quitting the Royal Family, details about why Meghan and Kate’s relationship may have broken down have been revealed – from the infamous row about the bridesmaids’ dresses to the ‘baby brain’ comment.

However, strain began to emerge even before their first meeting in January 2017, according to royal biographer Tina Brown.

Harry and Meghan had been together for just six months when the Duke introduced his girlfriend to Kate.

At the time, it was reported that the meeting had gone ‘really well’ and it was ‘important’ to Harry that the princess liked his new partner.

However, despite the reports, Meghan recounted in the couple’s Netflix series Harry & Meghan that the introduction had been awkward.

She said: ‘Even when Will and Kate came over and I was meeting her for the first time, I remember I was in ripped jeans, I was barefoot. Like I was a hugger, I have always been a hugger. I didn’t realise that is really jarring for a lot of Brits.’

‘I started to understand that the formality on the outside carried through on the inside, that there is a forward-facing way of being and then you close the door and think “Okay, we can relax now”.

‘But that formality carries over on both sides, and that was surprising to me.’

Writing in her book Palace Papers, Ms Brown noted: ‘Meghan later said she found Kate to be cool of temperament, but that’s likely because Meghan is a “gusher”, who hugged even the guards outside Kensington Palace.

‘Kate is not a woman given to spontaneous rapport. She’d avoided recruiting new girlfriends to her inner circle/slumber party list since Marlborough and St Andrew’s.

‘Preoccupied with two young children and public duty, Kate had no serious reason to see the latest and most glamorous of Harry’s string of girlfriends as a potential threat.’

But when the engagement between Harry and Meghan was announced on November 27, 2017, the former Suits actress paid tribute to Kate for welcoming her into the family.

‘Catherine has been absolutely amazing, as has William as well, you know, fantastic support,’ Meghan said in an interview.

But there were reports that Kate and Meghan clashed over bridesmaid dresses ahead of the wedding in 2018.

It was claimed Meghan had made Kate cry during a row over the outfits.

One unnamed friend claimed that Kate wanted to follow ‘protocol’ with the bridesmaids, including Charlotte, then three, wearing tights – but Meghan disagreed.

In his book, Revenge, Tom Bower claimed unnamed sources told him Kate and Meghan disagreed over the length of Princess Charlotte’s hemline and the fit of her dress.

He also claimed Meghan’s ‘insistence’ was ‘supported’ by Jessica Mulroney, adding: ‘Some would say that Meghan compared Ivy [Mulroney’s daughter] favourably against Charlotte.’

The Duchess of Sussex later disagreed in her bombshell Oprah Winfrey interview, claiming it was the other way around and adding: ‘She [Kate] was upset about something, but she owned it, and she apologised. And she brought me flowers.’

At the time, royal expert Katie Nicholl said Kate ‘never wanted’ reports of a rift to come out in the press and had found the situation ‘mortifying’.

‘From what I hear, there are different versions of the bridesmaid story, not just the one Meghan discussed,’ the royal expert said.

She went on to claim that Kate was left ‘saddened, disappointed and hurt’ in the wake of Meghan and Harry’s tell-all interview.

As Meghan was introduced into royal life, Harry wrote that there were signs of discord between his future wife and his sister-in-law.

In his controversial memoir Spare, which was released in 2023, King Charles’s estranged son detailed how Meghan asked to borrow lip gloss from Kate ahead of their appearance at the first Royal Foundation forum summit in February 2018.

He wrote that Kate was surprised, but rummaged around in her bag before offering it to Meghan.

He claimed that Meghan applied a little gloss to her finger and rubbed it across her lips before Kate made a ‘disgusted’ face.

The summit marked the first official appearance of the ‘Fab Four’ to announce that Meghan would become the fourth patron of the Royal Foundation.

At the time, Harry said ‘working as family does have its challenges’, but insisted ‘we’re stuck together for the rest of our lives’.

Authorities in Georgia have arrested a man accused of murdering his wife and adult daughter in a tragic incident earlier this week, as reported by local law enforcement.

Ralph Mincey, aged 63, faces charges of murder for both deaths and an additional charge related to weapon possession. The victims have been identified as 57-year-old Jennifer Lynn Mincey and her 37-year-old daughter, Amanda Mincey McBrayer.

This shocking case of family violence occurred late Wednesday at a home on Gauntt Road in Oxford, a small town situated about 40 miles southeast of Atlanta.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered Mincey’s daughter had already died from her injuries, according to a statement from the Walton County Sheriff’s Office. His wife was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital but tragically, she did not survive. Mincey was apprehended on the spot.

“We are saddened by this senseless loss of life,” Walton County Sheriff Keith Brooks said in a terse press release.

On Friday, harrowing 911 calls were released which shed some light on what happened that fateful night.

In one call, Amanda McBrayer’s husband, Adam McGrath, told a dispatcher he saw the shooting unfold before he fled, according to audio obtained by Atlanta-based NBC affiliate WXIA.

“He just shot my wife in the head,” the grieving husband said, referring to the defendant. “I literally ran away because I had two kids I’ve got to protect, and I’m scared to go back up there.”

McGrath went on to tell the dispatcher his wife and her father were arguing about something immediately before the shooting.

“My wife was drunk, she was upset, she wanted me to bring her home,” the victim’s husband continued on the 911 call. “So I brought her to her parent’s house and then she got into it with her dad and her dad said, ‘I’ve got a gun, I’ve got a gun. I’m gonna pull the f—ing trigger,’ then shot her in the head. Then he grabbed his wife by the throat, threw her down and threatened to kill her too.”

As deputies responded to the address, another 911 call came in – this one from the defendant himself.

“My wife had told my daughter that I didn’t take care of my mother,” Mincey told a dispatcher. “I do every day, and I – I just shot my daughter and my wife of 38 years.”

The dispatcher inquired: “Do you know if they’re still breathing?”

“No, it don’t look like it,” the defendant replied. “It was a nine millimeter right straight to the head.”

Mincey went on to try to explain himself.

“I just – I couldn’t handle no more the f—ing lying and the way they were screaming at me,” the defendant said on the call. “I don’t know, I just, I lost it. I’m so sorry. Thirty-eight years, I love her.”
