Bill Gates Acknowledges Multiple Affairs in Intense Epstein Inquiry

0

Bill Gates recently disclosed details of his past indiscretions while testifying before Congress, where two women involved in his affairs were publicly identified for the first time.

The Microsoft co-founder revealed his liaison with Alice Jacobs Nesselrodt, a medical entrepreneur who boasts a doctorate from Harvard Medical School.

Additionally, he acknowledged a connection with Karima Nigmatulina, a distinguished Russian nuclear scientist.

Earlier this month, during a grueling session whose transcript has just surfaced, Gates faced probing and personal inquiries, including a question about whether he ever contracted a sexually transmitted disease.

Gates shared that his former wife, Melinda, remained by his side even after he confessed to multiple affairs, with the first admission occurring before the year 2010.

The hearing before the House Oversight Committee was to find out about Gates’s relationship with Epstein, which is seen as one of the key reasons Melinda divorced him in 2021 after 27 years of marriage.

Gates, 70, remained friends with Epstein for years even though the late pedophile was a registered sex offender at the time.

After Epstein’s suicide, Gates has repeatedly apologized for their friendship and told Congress during the June 10 appearance he wished they had never met.

During the interview, Gates admitted having three extramarital affairs, the first of which was with Dr Jacobs.

Gates said he couldn’t remember when he told Melinda about that relationship but it was before 2013 when he told her about the affair with Nigmatulina and Mila Antonova, a Russian bridge player.

In a bizarre comment, Gates told the committee that he still thought that Antonova, who was 30 years his junior, was a ‘serious bridge player’.

Gates told the committee that when he told Melinda about the two affairs in 2013 it was ‘very distressing to her’ but they didn’t talk about getting divorced at that point.

According to Gates, he first met Nigmatulina through her work on ‘disease modeling and nuclear fission work’.

At the time she was working for a company called TerraPower which Gates said he was a ‘substantial investor in’.

Gates confirmed that one of the times he had sex with Nigmatulina was in London and that it was referenced in the three million emails from Epstein that were released by the Department of Justice earlier this year.

In his testimony, Gates said that the relationship with Dr Jacobs, who currently runs her own medical consulting company Convergence Group, began before 2010.

Alarmingly, the committee members told Gates that Dr Jacobs first made contact with Epstein in October 2009.

She became close enough to Epstein to introduce him to Boris Nikolic, who became close friends with Gates and would prove to be a key connector between the pedophile and the Microsoft founder.

Gates was asked about one email where Dr Jacobs called Nikolic her ‘best friend’. Gates said he thought they were friends in a ‘professional context’ and he wasn’t aware of her knowing Epstein.

The committee read out a draft of an email that Epstein appeared to send to himself in 2013 in which he talked about Dr Jacobs.

The subject of the email was: Bill.

It appeared to be from the perspective of Nikolic, a former science advisor to the Gates Foundation, Gates’ philanthropic venture.

The email read: ‘You also made it clear to me that I am not to refer to Alice Jacobs as that is another topic that must remain between the two of us’.

Gates said he didn’t know what the email was about – Nikolic has denied Epstein was speaking on his behalf.

‘What does it mean when a man sends a mail to himself – I’m not sure,’ Gates said.

Peter Spectre, the committee’s Deputy Director for Oversight, pressed Gates about the email.

Spectre asked: ‘Do you have any reason to believe that anyone would think that there is something about Alice Jacobs that you needed to keep between yourself and Dr. Nikolic?’

Gates said: ‘Well, there was a time when I had an affair with Dr Jacobs. So that may fit that category’

According to Gates, Nikolic was a ‘consultant’ to Dr Jacobs so he wouldn’t be ‘completely surprised’ if Nikolic knew about their affair.

Gates denied discussing Epstein with any of the three women but he admitted that the pedophile knew about his affairs with the Russians, likely through Nikolic.

The affair with Antonova led to speculation that Epstein could have been planning to blackmail Gates after emails were published by the Wall St Journal in 2023 which indicated the pedophile wanted to be paid back for some expenses he had paid for her.

Failure to return the money could mean that Epstein might expose the relationship, the emails reportedly showed.

According to Gates, in 2014 after he cut off contact with Epstein, Epstein sought reimbursement for some expenses related to Antonova

But Gates told one of his top advisors they were ‘never going to pay anything’.

Gates said: ‘I was not blackmailed, but, you know, as you look at these emails, you know, it looks like Mr Epstein’s brainstorming was going in that direction’.

During one of the more embarrassing parts of the hearing, Gates was asked if he ever had a sexually transmitted disease, but he denied it.

The committee also read out another section of the email Epstein sent to himself.

Epstein, apparently writing from Nikolic’s point of view, claimed that Gates ‘implored me to please delete the emails regarding your STD and your request that I provide you antibiotics that you can surreptitiously give Melinda and the description of your penis’.

Gates was asked if ever sent an email to Nikolic about this subject.

He said: ‘I never had an STD.

‘I never described my penis to Dr. Nikolic. I’ve said I may have indicated some concern about whether I had an STD; I don’t recall that. But I never had an STD. I never gave medicines to anyone covertly.’

The Daily Mail has contacted Dr Jacobs for comment.

Revitalize Your Morning Routine: 5 Exercises to Melt Belly Fat for Those Over 55

Looking to tackle that belly pooch while fortifying your core? Try these five brisk morning exercises, crafted especially for those beyond 55.

>

For those who thrive on multitasking, efficient strategies that streamline tasks can be particularly appealing. It turns out this principle can also be applied to your fitness routine. By incorporating a few strategic tweaks, your exercise session can be both time-effective and body-beneficial. We consulted with an expert to uncover five swift morning exercises designed to not only fit seamlessly into your day but also to target abdominal fat for those over 55. If this approach piques your interest, it’s definitely worth trying!

“While it’s a misconception that any exercise will ‘burn belly fat all day long,’ certain movements can help conserve muscle mass, amplify energy expenditure, and enhance core strength, all of which contribute to fat loss over time,” notes Karen Ann Canham, who brings nearly 20 years of experience as the CEO of Karen Ann Wellness, a Board-Certified Wellness Coach, and a Nervous System Specialist. “The chosen exercises target multiple muscle groups simultaneously, improving core functionality in mere minutes without the need for equipment. They’re accessible for most adults over 55, making them both easy to perform and sustain as a habit.”

Standing Knee Lifts

“Standing knee lifts with core engagement are excellent for activating the lower abdominals, enhancing balance, and elevating heart rate without any jarring impact,” Canham advises.

  1. Start by standing tall with your feet hip-width apart and arms at your sides.
  2. Lift your left knee up to hip level while keeping your core engaged.
  3. Lower your foot and repeat on your right side, lifting your right knee up to hip level.
  4. Continue to alternate knee lifts.
  5. Perform 2 to 3 sets of 12 to 15 reps on each leg.

4 Daily Bodyweight Moves That Shrink Belly Fat Better Than Ab Classes After 40

Sit-to-Stand

“Sit-to-stands (chair squats) strengthen the largest muscle groups in the body—the glutes and thighs—which support metabolism and functional fitness,” Canham says.

  1. Begin seated at the front of a sturdy chair with your feet placed on the floor under your knees.
  2. Lean forward slightly.
  3. Try to stand up without using your knees, hands, or additional support.
  4. Use control to slowly sit back down.
  5. Perform 2 to 3 sets of 10 to 12 reps.

5 Power Exercises That Torch Belly Fat Faster Than Treadmill Workouts After 45

Standing Cross-Body Punches

“Standing cross-body reaches or punches engage the obliques while adding a cardiovascular component,” Canham points out.

  1. Stand tall with your feet hip-width apart and knees slightly bent.
  2. Bring your fists up to your chest or chin.
  3. Punch your left arm forward while maintaining relaxed shoulders and keeping your other hand at your chest.
  4. Return to the start.
  5. Repeat by punching your right arm forward.
  6. Continue to alternate punches.
  7. Perform 2 sets of 20 alternating reps.

Bird-Dog

“Bird-dogs strengthen deep core stabilizers and improve posture, which can help the midsection appear more supported,” Canham explains.

  1. Start on all fours.
  2. Extend your left arm and right leg.
  3. Hold for a moment before returning to the start position.
  4. Switch sides and continue to alternate.
  5. Perform 2 sets of 8 to 10 reps per side.

Incline Pushups

“Incline pushups (wall or counter) build upper-body strength and increase total-body muscle recruitment,” Canham explains.

  1. Use a stable surface like a counter
  2. Place your hands just outside your chest on the surface.
  3. Walk your legs back so you’re at a straight incline from your head to your heels.
  4. Keep your legs together and rise onto the balls of your feet. Engage your core and keep your gaze forward.
  5. Bend your elbows to lower your body until your chest lines up with your elbows.

Texas Killer Taylor Parker Downplays Gruesome Murder in Shocking Jailhouse Call

0

A recently released Netflix true crime series highlights the chilling case of a Texas woman accused of kidnapping and murder, who allegedly brushed off her actions as merely “one horrible thing.”

Taylor Parker, condemned to death for the 2020 murder of Reagan Simmons-Hancock, lamented her frustrations to her mother about jail conditions. She bemoaned her inability to wear makeup in court and wept over being separated from her children in exclusive jail phone calls obtained by The Sun.

In conversations spanning 2021 to 2022, Parker expressed her exasperation to her mother, Shona Prior, saying, “Mom, they would accuse me of the most trivial offenses right now if they could; that’s the reality of the situation,” she insisted.

She pointed out, “There’s another woman here, and they concocted false charges against her simply because they could, primarily to enhance their image.”

Parker concluded, expressing her disillusionment, “It’s like when you commit one terrible act, they’ll go to any lengths against you.”

Prior hit back, “Well, Taylor, you know, I understand what you’re saying, but I don’t think you’re thinking about that like you should be thinking about that.”

“I mean, it’s not just you do one horrible thing and they try to throw the book at you.”

Parker sobbed and even told Prior “I’m sorry” but the matriarch wasn’t convinced by the tears.

“I know you did not think about the consequences of your actions. I know that,” she bluntly said.

Parker sobbed she was unable to see her son, but again Prior fired back back, saying, “I’m sure it does, but you know what? I hate to say this, but if you’d have been thinking about the children that you had on earth, you might not be in the situation you’re in.

“But, I mean, that’s what’s done is done. And you have to go forward and deal with the consequences as best you can.”

“You’re not the only one dealing with them. We’re all dealing with them.”

Parker, now 33, crushed Simmons-Hancock’s skull with a hammer and stabbed her more than 100 times in her New Boston home before removing her baby from her womb with a scalpel.

Parker, who faked her own pregnancy in the 10 months leading up to the killing, murdered Simmons-Hancock, 21, after telling her partner she was going to the hospital. She sadistically left the mom to die in front of her daughter, 3, before being arrested while driving the dead infant to an Oklahoma hospital.

Parker was held at the Bi-State Detention Center – a maximum security intake lockup in Texarkana – pre-trial. She is only one of seven women on death row in Texas.

She grumbled about not being able to wear make-up in court and complained the lights in her cell were on 24 hours a day.

Prior appeared to be more sympathetic when her daughter complained about not being able to wear makeup.

“So the thing about it is if they try to discriminate [against] you as a person, that will work in your favor in the long run because they’re not giving you a fair chance,” she said.

“You know, they’re wanting you to look like a homeless criminal.

“They’re not wanting you to look like a human because that would be beneficial to you and detrimental to them.”

Parker, branded an “evil piece of flesh demon” by her victim’s heartbroken mom, was convicted of capital murder in November 2022 after a jury of six men and six women in Bowie County deliberated for less than two hours.

During her trial, prosecutors said that her fake pregnancy scheme was a bid to stop her partner Wade Griffin from leaving her.

Parker — who could not conceive after a hysterectomy — wore pregnancy disguises, faked ultrasounds, posted about her pregnancy online and even threw a gender reveal party for the fake baby.

Dustin Estes, a Special Agent of the Texas Department of Public Safety, testified Parker watched YouTube videos on how to deliver and care for babies.

She was sentenced to death and just weeks before “Maternal Instinct” premiered on Netflix, the Supreme Court said it would not review her conviction and sentence, without explaining.

Daring Theft: Five Arrested for Armed Robbery Over a $30 Vape Pen in Shocking Pickup Truck Incident

0

In a startling turn of events in Winter Haven, Florida, five men now face serious felony robbery charges after allegedly holding up a man for his vape pen and cellphone. The incident reportedly took place late Sunday night, just as the victim was making his way home from work.

According to the Winter Haven Police Department, the robbery occurred around 9:36 p.m. when the unsuspecting victim encountered a pickup truck that pulled over beside him. The five suspects then allegedly jumped out, demanding he hand over any valuables he had on him.

The victim informed the group that he possessed only a cellphone and a vape pen, items of relatively low value—roughly $30 for the vape pen. Despite this, one suspect took rather drastic measures to enforce their demands. According to police, he lifted his shirt to reveal a concealed gun, intensifying the threat to the victim.

This allegedly brazen act of intimidation underscores the need for vigilance and safety, even in everyday commutes. As the case unfolds, the severity of the charges against the alleged perpetrators highlights the serious nature of using threats with firearms in robberies, regardless of the value of the stolen goods.

One of the suspects allegedly lifted his shirt to reveal a gun tucked into his waistband and demanded the items.

Police said the men searched the victim’s pockets and took the vape pen. They then demanded his cellphone, but the victim refused to hand it over and told them it had a tracker on it.

The suspects then got back into the truck and drove away.

Officers later located the pickup outside a residence, where they spotted several men matching the suspects’ descriptions, according to police.

Investigators also interviewed a 17-year-old girl who was riding in the truck during the incident. According to police, she said she had accompanied her boyfriend and his friends to several stores before they stopped near a cemetery in the area.

The teen told investigators she did not witness what happened outside the truck but heard yelling.

She later saw one of the men return to the vehicle holding a green vape pen and say he had “got the vape,” according to police.

All five men were charged with robbery with a weapon and petit theft, police said.

Taylor was also arrested on an outstanding warrant from Highlands County.

Two 17-year-old girls were also charged with resisting arrest without violence in connection with the investigation, according to police.

One allegedly provided officers with a false birth date, while the other allegedly refused to allow officers into the residence after the suspects ran inside.

Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz Celebrate Their Special Engagement Milestone

0

Six years have passed since Brooklyn Beckham proposed to his beloved, Nicola Peltz.

On Tuesday, the couple took to Instagram to share heartfelt tributes, demonstrating their enduring love. In a touching post, Brooklyn, the eldest son of the Beckham clan, expressed, “I love you more than words.”

These posts surfaced shortly after Nicola, 31, seemed to make a veiled comment regarding the Beckham family through a mysterious Instagram message. This development comes amid rising tensions, with Brooklyn reportedly upset over his parents including him in their Father’s Day social media acknowledgments on Sunday.

In a continued display of devotion to his wife, Brooklyn shared a classic black and white photograph capturing their joyful bond. He reminisced, “Six years ago, I asked my best friend to marry me x You are my girl, my beautiful wife, and my whole heart.”

He added, “Every day with you feels like the best adventure, and I still can’t believe I get to do life with you.”

‘You make everything brighter, funnier, sweeter, and more magical just by being you. I can’t wait to keep laughing, dreaming, and staying young with you forever.

‘I love you more than words, Nicola’.

Replying in the comments, Nicola gushed back: ‘i couldn’t possibly love you more. you’re my world, my rock and my soulmate. i love you a million times over and i love being your wife thank you for loving me so perfectly my forever’.

A few hours later Nicola took to her own social media to share her love for her husband as she wrote: ‘I can’t believe we got engaged 6 years ago today. I feel like I’ve known you my whole life, you’re my best friend and my forever love wrapped in one.

‘I love you with my whole heart. you’re the kindest man I’ve ever met and I’m so happy I get to do life with you. thank you for being the magical you.’

Brooklyn also replied as he added: ‘Your [sic] my best friend forever and ever’.

Brooklyn and Nicola tied the knot in April 2022 at a lavish ceremony at the Peltz’s family ocean front estate in Palm Beach, Florida.

Three years later they renewed their vows in New York’s Westchester County – however Brooklyn’s family were not invited.

In his bombshell statement to his family back in January, Brooklyn explained he and his wife wished to ‘create new memories that bring us joy and happiness’ after Victoria ‘hijacked’ his first dance and called him ‘evil’ when she wasn’t seated at his table.

And the Beckham feud has once again hit headlines after David extended an olive branch to his eldest son on Father’s Day as he shared an old photograph of himself and Brooklyn as a child as well as a snap of himself with all four of his kids.

A few hours later Nicola took to her own social media as she wrote: 'I love you with my whole heart. you¿re the kindest man I've ever met and I'm so happy I get to do life with you'

Alongside the images, he wrote: ‘Being a dad is my most important job – I love you all and thank you mummy @victoriabeckham for giving me our beautiful family. Happy Father’s Day to all the Dads around the world’.

Victoria also included their son Brooklyn in her heartfelt Father’s Day post to her husband on Sunday.

And, while Brooklyn has publicly remained silent, behind the scenes he is reportedly ‘fuming’.

A source revealed: ‘He’s fuming about it. He’s asked them to leave him alone and they just keep posting him.’

They told The Sun: ‘It just brings the whole thing up all over again. He wishes they’d leave it and leave him alone.’

Then a few hours later Nicola appeared to take a ‘swipe’ at the Beckham family as shared a quote about ‘forgiving yourself’.

The quote reads: ‘I am in love with this sentence: Forgive yourself for not knowing earlier what only time could teach.’

Shortly before Christmas last year, Brooklyn blocked his parents on Instagram, while his lawyers later wrote to the Beckhams’ team requesting all communication be conducted through legal representatives.

The Daily Mail contacted Brooklyn’s representatives for comment at the time.

Last week Brooklyn was accused of selling his family out for a big sum following the release of his two-part DoorDash commercial.

Five months after declaring that he and his wife Nicola want privacy, Brooklyn was savaged by fans, who branded him ‘classless’ after he collaborated with the food delivery firm for the sponsored video.

It was reported that Brooklyn was paid a hefty figure for the ad, with a source saying: ‘Anything that makes him money is good – it shows that his brand is there and flourishing.’

It’s thought that he was paid ‘at least $1million (£755,000)’ for the campaign.

However, the Beckham clan were reportedly less impressed with the advert, with an insider telling Page Six: ‘Brooklyn claims he wants peace and privacy and nothing to do with his family – now he’s trying to cash in on it all.’

David extended an olive branch to his son in his Instagram post as he shared an old photograph of himself and Brooklyn as a child, as well as a snap of himself with all four of his kids

In the teaser clip for the advert released on June 15, Brooklyn smirks and says: ‘You’re probably wondering why I’m watching the Fifa World Cup 2026 from home… It’s a long story.’

It has been taken as mocking parents David and Victoria with whom he no longer speaks – and profiting off their name, while friends of the Beckhams have said the pair are ‘devastated and inconsolable’ by the jibe.

The second longer version was released on Wednesday, sparking even fiercer backlash from even the most supportive Brooklyn fans, with followers commenting in their droves under the Instagram clip.

Friends of the Beckhams were shocked to see Brooklyn’s advert.

One told the Daily Mail’s Katie Hind: ‘To do an advert based on estrangement from family as if it’s a joke when his family is devastated and sister and grandparents inconsolable is shocking.

‘Especially from someone who claims he wants peace and privacy.’

In January, Brooklyn released a scathing six-page statement (below) denouncing his parents.

He announced he had cut ties with his family – declaring he was no longer part of ‘Brand Beckham’ and insisting his parents and their other children are ‘performative’.

Brooklyn also claimed David and Victoria had controlled him for much of his life, attempted to drive a wedge between him and Nicola and left him embarrassed when his mother danced ‘inappropriately’ with him during the first dance at his wedding.

Inside Sarah Ferguson’s Post-Divorce Wish: A Unique Request to Queen Elizabeth

The following includes references to disordered eating.

In 1996, when Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor finalized his divorce from Sarah Ferguson, Queen Elizabeth II braced herself for requests for a sizable financial settlement. Ferguson, who indeed had the right to seek financial compensation, opted for something much more modest. In a 2007 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Ferguson recalled, “When I met with Her Majesty, she asked, ‘What do you require, Sarah?’ and I replied, ‘Your friendship.'” Her response surprised Elizabeth, as those in her inner circle had anticipated a financial plea from Andrew’s ex-wife.

For Ferguson, preserving a positive and friendly relationship with Queen Elizabeth was invaluable. “I wanted to maintain Her Majesty as a friend,” she explained, emphasizing that she did not wish to engage in disputes or have her intentions misunderstood as greedy. Instead, Ferguson accepted that she needed to work and carved her path accordingly. However, the divorce settlement did provide her with a cash payout of $475,000—a relatively modest sum compared to the $22.5 million settlement Princess Diana received in her separation from Prince Charles in the same year.

Ultimately, Ferguson achieved her goal. She maintained a close relationship with the queen until Elizabeth’s passing in September 2022. Their bond was strengthened by shared passions, including a love for dogs and horses. “Even post-divorce, their friendship thrived, often seen walking the dogs around Frogmore and enjoying conversations,” a source shared with The Telegraph in 2022. After Elizabeth’s death, Ferguson, alongside Andrew, assumed the responsibility of caring for the queen’s treasured corgis, marking a significant testament to the trust Elizabeth placed in her former daughter-in-law.

Queen Elizabeth reportedly valued Sarah Ferguson’s loyalty

The dissolution of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and Sarah Ferguson’s marriage was among the many challenges Queen Elizabeth II faced in 1992. The couple’s separation occurred during a year rife with personal trials for the queen, including the split of Prince Charles and Princess Diana and Princess Anne’s divorce from Captain Mark Phillips. The year also witnessed a catastrophic fire at Windsor Castle, prompting Elizabeth to describe it as annus horribilis, meaning “horrible year” in Latin. During this tumultuous period, the relentless tabloids eagerly covered Ferguson’s notorious toe-sucking scandal among other royal misfortunes.

As difficult as all of it was, Elizabeth moved on stoically as ever, and she and Ferguson worked it out. Part of the reason the queen is said to have been able to put her differences with her former daughter-in-law aside is Ferguson’s unwavering loyalty to Andrew and the royal family as a whole. Despite divorcing in 1996, Ferguson continued to support her ex-husband, who has been plagued by scandals. Ferguson and Andrew’s post-divorce relationship is so strong that they even lived together at Royal Lodge from 2008 until their eviction in early 2026.

Elizabeth paid it forward by offering support to Ferguson amid her own controversies and personal struggles. The late queen’s last words to her former daughter-in-law reflected that dynamic. “‘Sarah, remember that yourself is good enough.’ It makes me cry,” Ferguson recalled Elizabeth telling her before her death in a 2024 interview with The Times. That is a message she had tried to impart to Ferguson since the days she struggled with disordered eating and faced public backlash over her weight as a newly postpartum mother. “I believed my critics. But the Queen never lost me,” she said.

Treasurer Highlights Fuel Excise as Just One Factor in Rising Underlying Inflation

0

Amidst concerns over inflation metrics, Treasurer Jim Chalmers has rebuffed claims that the government’s reduction in fuel excise is skewing inflation numbers. This comes after a drop in headline inflation, although core price pressures remain on the rise.

In May, the trimmed mean—a key gauge of core inflation monitored by the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA)—rose slightly to 3.6% from the previous 3.4%, according to Wednesday’s report from the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

This increase surpassed expectations, as most analysts had forecasted a climb to only 3.5%.

Contrary to economists’ projections for a marginal rise, annual headline inflation decreased to 4% from 4.2% reported in April.

The decline in the headline rate can be traced back to a significant 11.9% reduction in fuel prices for the month.

Housing costs were the largest contributor to annual inflation, up 6.5 per cent.

The trimmed mean is the RBA’s preferred measure of inflation as it removes the biggest price swings and volatility.

Responding to a reporter’s question about the annual trimmed mean on Wednesday, Chalmers pointed the finger at the conflict in the Middle East.

“You can see it reflected in our forecasts and into the private sector forecast, that the cost and consequences of the war in the Middle East will be felt for some time,” he said.

Asked if headline inflation had come down “because of the fuel excise cut”, the treasurer said the cut had partially contributed to the fall, but denied it was wholly responsible.

Annual-inflationMay2026.png

“The government’s efforts to cut the fuel excise are part of the story but not the whole story, even when it comes to this very welcome moderation in fuel cost reflected in the inflation figures today,” he said.

In April, the government cut the fuel excise — a federal tax levied on petrol — in response to the war in the Middle East, taking it from 52 cents to 20 cents.

The cut was due to expire on 30 June, but the Albanese government has extended it by another month at a lower rate.

“Those costs were felt initially when it came to petrol prices, and that is why we stepped in and stepped up with the fuel excise cut,” Chalmers said.

He said the flow-on effects from the conflict were “broadening” out in the economy.

Future rate rises uncertain

The headline inflation rate is closely watched by the central bank because it accounts for a large share of the consumer price basket and tends to be relatively sticky.

The latest figure reflected rising costs for electricity, new dwellings and rents, according to ABS head of price statistics Rachael McCririck.

“Electricity costs are 21.1 per cent higher than 12 months ago as Commonwealth and state government rebates that reduced electricity costs for households are no longer in place,” she said.

Ahead of the release, financial markets had been pricing in about a 30 per cent chance of a rate hike at the RBA’s next meeting, in August.

The RBA has already increased interest rates three times in 2026, but economists are split on whether the bank has any more in store as it balances its dual mandate of getting inflation under control and maintaining full employment.

Crucial labour market figures are due to be released on Thursday.

Iconic Queens White Castle Shuts Doors After 85 Remarkable Years

After serving the Queens community for close to 90 years, the iconic White Castle is closing its doors this Wednesday, marking the end of one of New York City’s oldest restaurants.

Situated on 57th Avenue in Elmhurst, this fast-food landmark, which has been in operation since 1939, has been sold and is expected to be converted into an apartment complex, as revealed by restaurant manager Elsa Lima to the Queens Chronicle.

A banner hanging on the building read, “This location is closed. It was our pleasure to serve you,” encouraging customers to visit the closest outlets in Brooklyn and Sunnyside.

By Tuesday night, the dining area had nearly emptied out, leaving only a large soda machine and various kitchen appliances amidst the vacant space.

White Castle, with over 25 locations in New York, stated that the decision to sell the beloved Queens location was due to the property’s significantly increased value, a common scenario in a family-owned business.

“As the value increases, it makes business sense for us to listen closely to a prospective buyer,” Chief Marketing Officer Jamie Richardson told the outlet.

Richardson said that the restaurant’s employees will be offered new positions with the company.

“When a change like this occurs, White Castle reinvests proceeds from the sale in continuing to grow our business overall and focuses on remaining a great place to work,” Richardson said.

However, the move to sell the location has shocked nearby residents who view the fast-food joint as more of a fixture of the community.

Elmhurst resident James McMenamin said the closure marks “the end of an era” and reflects the “radically” changing environment along Queens Boulevard.

“The iconic location I believe opened about the time of the 39-40 World’s Fair, a familiar recognizable spot on the landscape that evoked nostalgia, in a radically and quickly being altered Queens Blvd.,” he told the outlet.

The commiseration extended to users online, who reflected on the decades of satisfied cravings.

“My grandfather used to take us there when we were little. It’s a sad day,” one Redditor said earlier this week. “Also, that space seems a little small for apartment buildings.

“Been there countless times growing up in 70-80s. Sad to see it go!” another user added.

“I love that place and my sadness about it is immense,” a third person said.

Local historian Michael Perlman told the Queens Chronicle that the location first opened in 1939, was rebuilt in 1963 and again in the 2000s, and was renovated just a year ago — calling it “senseless to undo that among its longtime cultural history.”

Even with 85 years behind it, the Elmhurst location isn’t New York City’s oldest White Castle, according to Spectrum News.

That title belongs to the White Castle on Fordham Road in the Bronx, which has been running since 1930.

White Castle got its start in 1921 in Wichita, Kansas, founded by Walt Anderson and Billy Ingram, who officially incorporated the business in 1924.

It’s widely credited as the world’s first fast-food hamburger chain — famous for its small, square “sliders.”

Paroled Felon Faces Charges in Fatal New York Homeless Hotel Fire Leaving Six Dead

Authorities have charged a man on parole, previously convicted of grand larceny, with igniting a fire that led to the tragic deaths of six individuals at a homeless hotel in New York. The blaze also forced dozens of others to evacuate, officials reported.

Tyler Russell, aged 24, was apprehended on Monday and faces charges including six counts of second-degree manslaughter alongside one count of arson. These charges stem from the devastating fire at the Knights Inn located in Endwell, as stated by the New York State Police.

Emergency services were called to the location around 6 a.m. following incidents of a fire outbreak at the Broome County hotel. Upon arrival, firefighters from the Endwell Fire Department encountered a rapidly spreading blaze with thick, black smoke emanating from the front and flames raging at the back of the building.

The fire escalated quickly, prompting several additional fire brigades and law enforcement agencies to arrive for support and containment of the situation.

At least six people died in the fire, and two others were transported to a hospital for treatment, police said. Authorities have not yet publicly identified the victims.

“First and foremost, our deepest thoughts and continuous prayers are with the victims and their families who were impacted by this morning’s tragic events. Please know that our entire department and community stand with you during this incredibly difficult time,” the Endwell Fire Department wrote on Facebook.

The American Red Cross assisted displaced guests, and a temporary shelter was established at Vestal United Methodist Church, police said. The United Way of Broome County also launched an emergency relief fund for victims of the fire that has raised tens of thousands of dollars in donations.

A volunteer with the Red Cross estimated that 73 people were displaced by the blaze, according to the Democrat and Chronicle.

Authorities have not announced a possible motive, and the investigation remains ongoing.

Russell previously served about two years in state prison on a grand larceny conviction before being released on parole in February, according to prison records cited by Syracuse.com.
