Kelly Osbourne Speaks Out Against Body Shaming: ‘The Cruelty is Unbelievable

Kelly Osbourne is standing up against the harsh body-shaming attacks she’s faced online recently.

In an exclusive conversation with Us Weekly during the LAX.BID charity art auction benefiting Mind and The Ricky Hatton Foundation in London on June 18, the 41-year-old candidly shared, “I have never encountered such cruelty before, and I truly believe no one should have to endure that level of viciousness.”

The singer and television personality revealed that she generally ignores the negative remarks about her looks, adding, “It takes a very troubled mind to say the kind of things people are saying about me.”

Expressing compassion for her critics, she remarked, “I feel sorry for them.”

Kelly Osbournes Ups Downs Through Years

Throughout her life, Kelly Osbourne has been open about her journey with sobriety, weight loss, and personal growth. In May 2021, she told Us Weekly about her sobriety journey, explaining, “I got sober. I replaced drugs and alcohol with food, and my body reacted differently. Once I was sober, the weight gain was uncontrollable—it was overwhelming. People just kept… ”

Kelly has been candid about grieving the death of her father, legendary rocker Ozzy Osbourne, who died in July 2025 at age 76. She also split from fiancé Sid Wilson, with whom she shares son Sidney, 3, earlier this year.

Kelly credited her family and friends, as well as her little one, with helping her stay resilient amid her difficult year and the online trolls she continues to face.

“I have an amazing support system. I have an amazing medical team. I have an amazing family. I have amazing friends … and my son,” she told Us. “And you never really know what’s going on with someone. That’s why I always make the point to smile at someone when I’m walking down the street, because that one smile can change their whole everything.”

Kelly opened up about her grief over Ozzy, telling Us that it has brought her much closer to her family, including mom Sharon Osbourne, 73.

She said, “It’s taught me that time is the most precious thing we have.”

In December 2025, Kelly called out “disgusting, horrible, mean, rude comments” about her appearance on Instagram.

“I’m just here to say, what do you expect from me? What do you expect me to look like right now?” Kelly said in an Instagram Story video. “The fact that I’m getting out of bed and facing my life and trying to be more than enough, I should be commended for that.”

She continued, “For example, you say that I look ill. Well, I am ill right now. My life is completely flipped upside down. I don’t understand how people expect me to bounce back and look like everything is just fine in my life when it’s not.”

Kelly Osbourne is speaking out after her physical appearance has continued to foster body-shaming comments. “There is a special kind of cruelty in harming someone who is clearly going through something,” Osbourne, 41, wrote via her Instagram Stories on Sunday, March 1. “Kicking me while I’m down, spreading my struggles as gossip and turning your […]

“Another thing that is strange is that you compare photos of me now at 41 years old to a picture of me when I was 18 years old. People’s faces change when you grow older,” Kelly said at the time.

“The thing that I find the most disappointing in all of this is that most of the comments are coming from grown-ass women,” the “Papa Don’t Preach” singer added. “Women that say they’re counselors, women that are mothers, women who look like they have weight struggles of their own.”

“And it’s absolutely devastating that women can’t support other women,” she shared. “They’d rather tear them down when their dad just died. It’s disgusting, and I’ve had enough of it. So, go f*** yourself.”

Iran Closes Strait of Hormuz Following US Blockade Lift: Global Shipping Routes Disrupted

0

On Friday, Iran once again shut down the Strait of Hormuz, opting not to attend nuclear talks in Switzerland. This decision was attributed to Israel’s ongoing presence in Lebanon and the continued deployment of U.S. forces in the region.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps communicated this move via maritime radio, stating that the United States had breached a memorandum of understanding signed just days earlier by President Trump and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

“The withdrawal of Israeli forces from Lebanon, the full removal of the naval blockade, and the retreat of American forces, deemed terrorist by Iran, from the Persian Gulf and surrounding areas are key conditions of our agreement with the United States,” the statement declared. It further warned, “The Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until these conditions are fulfilled. Ships are advised to avoid the Strait to ensure their safety, as any vessel ignoring this warning will be at risk of being targeted.”

Meanwhile, the U.S. Central Command announced on Thursday that it had officially ended a two-month blockade on Iranian ports.

However, there remains ambiguity surrounding Iran’s claim that the embargo’s lifting was not “complete.”

The IRGC announcement came hours after the first round of US-Iran nuclear talks achieved through the MOU and scheduled for Friday were called off.

The US has not given a reason for the postponement.

A source on Wednesday told The Post some hardliners in the Iranian regime were arguing against attending a since-canceled MOU signing ceremony until Israel removes its troops from southern Lebanon, where it has been hunting Hezbollah terrorists.

Jim Carrey Negotiates Return for ‘How the Grinch Stole Christmas’ Sequel

A sequel to the beloved live-action film “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” is reportedly in development, promising a return to Whoville with a new twist on the classic tale.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jim Carrey is in discussions with Universal and Imagine Entertainment to once again don the iconic green fur as the Grinch.

The sequel is set to be directed and produced by Ron Howard, who helmed the original film.

The first “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” hit theaters just before Thanksgiving in 2000, raking in over $260 million domestically and claiming the title of that year’s highest-grossing film. Its total worldwide earnings soared to $346 million.

The film’s success was also recognized at the Academy Awards, where Rick Baker and Gail Rowell-Ryan received Oscars for best makeup for their work in transforming Carrey into the infamous character.

For Carrey, the process of turning him into the iconic Dr. Seuss character took eight hours a day and was particularly difficult.

Jim Carrey called ‘Grinch’ makeup process ‘excruciating’

He told Comicbook.com in 2024 that he was open to reprising the character, but only if there was an improved way to put on his makeup.

“Oh, gosh, you know, if we could figure out the Grinch,” Carrey shared when asked about revisiting the classic character. “The thing about it is, on the day, I do that with a ton of makeup and can hardly breathe. It was an extremely excruciating process.”

The comedian added, “The children were in my mind all the time. ‘It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids. It’s for the kids.’ And now, with motion capture and things like that, I could be free to do other things. Anything is possible in this world.”

Last year, Carrey told Vulture that on the first day of production of the holiday movie, he was ready to quit and forgo his $20 million payday if it meant not having to sit through makeup.

However, with the help of a man who trained CIA agents to withstand torture and the makeup process going from eight hours a day to three, he decided to stay on the film.

Taylor Momsen, who played Cindy Lou in the 2000 flick, hinted she’d be open to returning for a “Grinch” sequel, but only if Carrey asked.

“When Jim Carrey asks you to do something, you pay attention, so we’ll see,” she told Entertainment Tonight in November.

Katy Perry Reveals Emotional Struggles After Heartbreaking Split: Inside Her Toughest Year Yet

Katy Perry recently shared insights into her mental health struggles during what she described as the ‘worst year of her life,’ reflecting on her breakup with Orlando Bloom in a candid interview.

The 41-year-old singer, known for hits like “Roar,” ended her nine-year relationship with Bloom in June 2025. The couple, who got engaged in 2019, welcomed their daughter Daisy in August 2020.

Following their separation, Katy has found new happiness with former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. She affectionately referred to him as a ‘blessing from God’ as she expressed her feelings for him.

In an appearance on The Zane Lowe Show on Apple Music, Katy admitted, “Last year was incredibly tough. It was simultaneously the worst and the best year because every situation has two sides, and I chose to see it as the best.”

“I created space in my life,” she added. “And then, unexpectedly, this enormous blessing appeared.”

Hinting at her mental health struggles, she continued: ‘And everything is really changed and real, grounded and settled, and I’m just so glad I decided to stick around for another year because you know if you just keep on living, life can get better.

Katy Perry has revealed her mental health battle during ‘worst year of her life’ amid ‘intense’ split from Orlando Bloom – as she calls new romance with Justin Trudeau a ‘blessing from God’ (pictured during her tour last year)

She said: 'Last year, June I was in the winter on the Lifetimes tour. I was crying. I was in Adelaide. I had just separated. I had been through a lot of you know, just stuff publicly, privately' (pictured with Orlando in March 2025)

She said: ‘Last year, June I was in the winter on the Lifetimes tour. I was crying. I was in Adelaide. I had just separated. I had been through a lot of you know, just stuff publicly, privately’ (pictured with Orlando in March 2025)

‘It’s wild to look at where I was one year ago exactly. I remember where I was one year ago exactly this year.

‘Last year, June I was in the winter on the Lifetimes tour. I was crying. I was in Adelaide. I had just separated. I had been through a lot of you know, just stuff publicly, privately.

‘And I was just like, “holy s**t, this is really intense. Is a person really supposed to feel all this and, or absorb all this?”

‘And then my blessing came and it was wonderful. It was like God didn’t take me this far to desert me.’

Katy is now preparing to release her new single Watch It Burn on June 25.

‘I basically have to put it out in order to clear the path to whatever comes next. So it’s something I wrote last March and I wrote it with Justin Tranter and a couple other people.

‘And I wrote two songs, Band-Aids and Watch It Burn and I was terrified of putting Watch It Burn out.

‘They’re so honest and they really tell a lot about my story. I was like: “I’m never putting this out. I’m never putting this out. I’m never putting this out.” And cut to now, like a long while away – I’m putting it out.’

The star continued: 'And then my blessing came and it was wonderful. It was like God didn't take me this far to desert me' (pictured with Justin in June)

Representatives for Katy and Orlando previously told DailyMail.com at the time that, ‘Orlando and Katy have been shifting their relationship over the past many months to focus on co-parenting.

‘They will continue to be seen together as a family, as their shared priority is – and always will be – raising their daughter with love, stability, and mutual respect.’

A few months later, Bloom broke his silence on the split during an interview on the Today show in September.

‘I’m great, man. I’m so grateful. We have the most beautiful daughter,’ he said while also talking about his film titled The Cut.

‘You know, when you leave everything on the field, like I did in this movie, I feel grateful for all of it. And we’re great. We’re going to be great. It’s nothing but love.’

Katy and Justin made their red carpet debut together on June 8 at the New York City premiere of the Katy Perry: The Lifetimes Tour concert film.

And unafraid to flaunt their romance in public, the couple were seen kissing during a picnic date in Santa Barbara, California, last weekend.

Gushing over their romance and the stability Trudeau has brought to her life, she told People: ‘I am very in love. Actually, that show was after I met the love of my life, and so I felt very anchored by that.

‘Because I’m a little bit like a rainbow kite. I fly super high and like, you know, touch the veil, cosmos, and sometimes I need to be anchored. So, to have that anchor finally makes me feel really whole now.’

The star couldn’t be happier with the way her life is now.

‘Every day is a fantastic journey, and every day is a chance to evolve, and to be a better person and do the right thing and to be a model for your community, for your family, for your world.

‘I feel like a more grounded person in so many aspects of my life,’ she added.

Shocking Throuple Murder Mystery: Unveiling the Unforeseen Killer

0

When Desiree Sunford was discovered shot to death in her Washington residence, the shocking crime left many in disbelief.

Desiree, a middle-school art teacher known for her love of Harley motorcycles and classic car restoration, was cherished by her community. Colleagues described her as one of the “cool” teachers whose classroom served as a sanctuary for students. Her friends noted she was eagerly planning her future with her husband, Scott Sunford, a military veteran.

However, on April 7, 2013, those plans were tragically cut short. Desiree was found lifeless on her home’s floor, clad only in underwear.

“She had obviously suffered multiple gunshots,” retired Yakima County Sheriff’s Deputy Ed Labeck recounted in a June 18 episode of Dateline: Unforgettable. “There was a lot of trauma and blood… it was clear that whoever did this wanted to ensure she was dead.”

What Happened to Desiree Sunford?

As investigators meticulously examined the crime scene, Scott was questioned about the events leading to Desiree’s untimely demise.

Scott claimed he had been out of town attending a funeral and had stayed overnight at a friend’s house to avoid driving home through bad weather. The next day, after he received an alert from the couple’s home security system and was unable to reach Desiree, he called 911.

When Scott got home, he didn’t go inside. Instead, he stood by his car and pointed a gun at the residence.

Scott later told authorities that he hesitated because he feared what might be inside, but they struggled to understand his logic.

“It just was not the normal response,” retired Yakima County Sheriff’s Detective Dave Johnson told Dateline, “for an individual thinking his wife was hurt or in danger.”

As detectives securitized Scott’s account, they wanted to learn more about the friend with whom he had spent the night. Scott identified her as Paige Blades, a woman who he said had been romantically involved with him—and Desiree.

Who Is Paige Blades?

Paige, then 23 and a single mom who worked at a processing plant, told investigators that she met the Sunfords in 2011. What began as a friendship, she said, evolved into a three-way sexual relationship.

“I was accepted as a part of their marriage,” Paige told detectives. “I slept in their bed, I shared food costs, I cooked, I cleaned.”

According to Paige, Desiree was comfortable with the arrangement until seven months before her death, when she became increasingly possessive of Scott. As tensions flared, the group sex fizzled, although Paige said she and Scott had continued having sex behind Desiree’s back.

When news of Desiree’s alleged private life reached her friends, they were in disbelief. Those doubts only deepened, one friend told Dateline, after observing what she described as Scott’s upbeat demeanor at her funeral.

Investigators heard similar anecdotes about Scott, but suspicion alone wasn’t enough to consider him a suspect—especially since DNA found at the crime scene didn’t belong to him.

Evidence finally came in the form of text messages between Desiree and Paige.

“He was not being very honest with us,” said Johnson, “about his relationship with his wife…or Paige.”

The messages, sent more than a year before Desiree’s murder, showed a close relationship that occasionally blurred boundaries.

“Honestly, I did enjoy that night,” Desiree wrote in one message. “There are aspects there that are different with a woman than a man.”

Paige responded, “I very much miss having a woman to play with.”

Other times, Desiree expressed frustration about spending so much time with Paige and some messages indicated that Desiree had no idea that Paige and Scott were intimate.

As Desiree wrote, “You two doing anything sexual would bother me.”

Paige answered, “He and I doing anything sexual is out of the question.”

The final straw for Desiree was a message from Paige that read: “If you ever die and he needs a wife, I’m half convinced that would be me.” After that, Desiree told Paige to distance herself from her marriage.

By then, detectives believed they had uncovered a source of conflict in Desiree’s personal life, but no direct leads to her killer.

Then, 14 months after Desiree’s death, an anonymous tip came in: The killer was a man named Marty Grismer. When police traced the phone call, it led back to Paige.

Why Did Marty Grismer Kill Desiree Sunford?

Paige told detectives that Marty was a coworker she had briefly dated but he was now remarried and they were just friends. Still, said Paige, he continued pursuing her and even paid her bills.

According to Paige, weeks before the shooting, she got pregnant. When she confided in Marty, she said he became convinced that Scott was the father and believed that once Desiree found out, Desiree would stand in the way of Paige and Scott’s future.

Paige told police that Marty had recently confessed to killing Desiree, so that she and Scott could be together.

Paige said she was stunned by Marty’s alleged confession, especially since Scott had already moved on with another woman—but according to Paige, Marty had recently offered to “take care of her, like I did the last one.”

Detectives found the motive strange, however they dug into Marty’s background.

They learned that Marty had been suspended from work for bringing a gun barrel into the plant. Detectives later obtained it from Marty’s boss and sent it to a lab for testing.

The results showed that the gun barrel was the same one that was used to kill Desiree.

When detectives brought Marty in for questioning, he described his relationship with Paige as “complicated,” but not sexual. He also denied killing Desiree.

Marty then turned the tables on Paige. He alleged that Paige had been in possession of his gun—with that same barrel—at the time of the murder and accused her of being the killer.

Scott and Paige were never charged with a crime, and Paige has denied any involvement in Desiree’s murder.

“It’s incredibly unfair that I risked my life to do the right thing,” she told Dateline, “and I’m being crucified for existing.”

Detectives ultimately didn’t believe Marty’s story, and in Nov. 2014, he was arrested for first-degree murder.

In Dec. 2017, he accepted a plea deal to reduce the charge to second-degree murder and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Shocking Incident: Disabled Man Allegedly Throws Toddler into Crocodile’s Path

In a shocking incident at a British zoo, a three-year-old boy was attacked by a crocodile after a stranger with learning difficulties threw him into a reptile pit. The suspect, a 30-year-old man from Norfolk, was apprehended at Old Hurst animal park in Cambridgeshire on charges of attempted murder. Surprisingly, he was released on bail less than a day after the attack, as authorities deemed him ‘not fit for interview’ following an assessment by detectives.

Heroically, Tracey Johnson, the owner and zookeeper at Old Hurst, rushed to the child’s aid, managing to pull him away from the dangerous reptiles and bring him to safety. The incident left both Tracey and her husband, Andy, visibly shaken. Friends reported that the couple is deeply distressed by the events that unfolded at their zoo.

In the aftermath, the police sealed off the enclosure and conducted interviews with the staff, attempting to piece together the details of this alarming situation. As the investigation continues, the community remains on edge, grappling with the unsettling reality of what occurred at their local zoo.

Witnesses said Old Hurst’s owner and zookeeper Tracey Johnson sprinted into the enclosure and pulled the injured child away from the crocodiles to safety.

She and her shell-shocked husband Andy were pictured for the first time since the incident today as police sealed off the enclosure and spoke to staff. Friends said Mr and Mrs Johnson are ‘mortified’ by what happened.

The attacker is believed to have been on an organised day trip to the zoo with at least two carers, according to several locals.

Tearful witnesses described the child suffering a broken arm and pelvis before ‘heroic’ zookeeper Mrs Johnson leapt in to rescue him from the enclosure. Other parents said they heard a blood-curdling scream from the reptile area yesterday afternoon.

The boy had been on an elevated walkway watching at least 15 crocodiles and alligators when he was reportedly lifted over a 4ft safety fence and hurled about 15ft into the enclosure.

He was then attacked by at least one crocodile, according to multiple sources. The enclosure houses more than a dozen crocodiles and alligators, including two large Nile crocodiles, Romeo and Cuddles, which measure between 9ft and 11ft. Romeo, the male, can weigh up to 485lbs.

An expert and friend of the owners said he believes the boy landed on a concrete surface before possibly rolling into the water at around 1.20pm yesterday. He added that while the crocodiles are ‘well fed’, they would ‘snap’ at any human who suddenly landed near them.

Chris Newman, 67, director of the National Centre for Reptile Welfare, said: ‘I wouldn’t expect them to eat a child, but they would bite if it landed on or near them. That’s where the danger lies — they have such a powerful bite. Even an investigatory bite would be catastrophic.’

He added: ‘Knowing Tracey, it comes as no surprise that she acted this way — that is exactly what she would do. She is a very brave and courageous woman. It is nothing more than I would expect from her.’

A mother who asked not to be named said: ‘We heard a loud scream. Never in a million years did I think someone was in with the crocodiles.

‘We saw the air ambulance come over within about 10 minutes. They held up a white sheet in between the farm shop and the cafe so no one could see what was happening.  My daughter was oblivious. The little boy was only three and my daughter is two, it could have been her.’

The suspect at the centre of the investigation has been bailed.

A Cambridgeshire Police spokesman said on Friday morning: ‘A three-year-old boy from Cambridgeshire remains in Addenbrooke’s Hospital in a critical but stable condition, following an incident at Johnson’s of Old Hurst yesterday

‘A 30-year-old man from Norfolk, arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, has been released on bail while detectives from our Major Crime Unit conduct further enquiries regarding this incident. The man, who is not known to the victim, was assessed as not being fit for interview.

‘Officers were called to the zoo at 1.24pm by the ambulance service to reports that a three-year-old boy had suffered serious injuries.

‘The boy, who sustained serious injuries while in the enclosure, was pulled out by staff from the zoo and received medical treatment at the scene before being taken to hospital.’

The incident has chilling echoes of an incident at the Tate Modern in London in 2019 when a six-year-old French tourist was hurled from an outdoor viewing platform.

He somehow survived the 100ft fall but suffered life-changing injuries.

Disturbed teenager Jonty Bravery was jailed for life with a minimum term of 15 years in 2020 for attempted murder.

He is being held at Broadmoor, a high-security psychiatric hospital in Berkshire.

The boy had been looking at the reptiles when he was thrown around 15ft from an elevated viewing platform into the Johnsons of Old Hurst tropical house near Huntingdon.

At least one crocodile attacked him, sources confirmed.

Mr Newman, who has housed crocodiles at the zoo and spent time inside the enclosure, believes he probably landed on a concrete surface and then rolled into the water and confirmed that if the child fell next to a crocodile, he will have been immediately bitten.

He said: ‘If a child landed next to a crocodile, I absolutely would expect that animal to react and snap.

‘You couldn’t fall or be pushed into it – you would have to be thrown.’

He also said of owner Tracey Johnson, who jumped into the enclosure to help rescue the boy: ‘She’s a very strong lady. I know it would have been incredibly difficult. It’s about a fifteen foot drop, so to get in there that quickly and save the child is an incredible act of bravery.

Mr Newman said the attraction is a family-run operation involving ‘a mum and dad, two sons and a daughter-in-law’.

He said the enclosure was so secure that a child could only have ended up inside if they had been deliberately thrown, adding: ‘It’s a large tropical house with a raised walkway which is about 15ft down.

‘The crocodiles would be on the ground floor and there’s a walkway all the way around the perimeter, with vertical and horizontal safety barriers.’

He also described the venue as ‘a fantastic zoo’ where ‘public safety is a huge part’ of the operation.

This morning a resident close to the zoo said: ‘Tracey and the other staff were incredibly brave.

‘They all stayed very calm and she went down into the enclosure and was able to rescue the little boy quickly before the crocodiles could harm him.

‘Both she and Andy are very experienced and responsible zoo keepers and wlll both be mortified by what has happened.’

The owners last night said their ‘thoughts and prayers are with the boy and his family’.

‘Out of respect, our tropical house will remain closed until further notice. The rest of the site will remain open,’ Mr Johnson said in a statement.

The couple are highly experienced animal handlers and have previously been pictured transporting 400lb crocodiles by hand with zoo staff.

The incident unfolded in front of horrified visitors inside the tropical reptile house at Johnsons of Old Hurst, near Huntingdon.

The zoo is run by fourth-generation farmer Mr Johnson, his wife and their sons, George and Edward.

A blog post on the zoo’s website says the crocodiles were initially kept to help dispose of waste meat from the butchery, but they went on to be the start of a zoo.

The zoo is now home to more than 100 animals, including lions, tigers, sloth bears, capybaras, and meerkats.

In an interview with The Sun in 2019, Mr Johnson spoke of various crocodiles, including Cuddles and her brother Romeo.

He said: ‘Cuddles isn’t that cuddly. She took my fingers a few weeks ago.’

He added of Romeo: ‘He loves the back of his leg being tickled – all the skin around their belly and legs is soft.

‘He can’t reach that bit. It keeps him calm.’

Police refused to be drawn on how the child ended up in the enclosure. They are understood to be investigating whether he was attacked by the animals before being pulled out.

A neighbour of the zoo, who asked not to be named, described hearing a ‘lot of sirens’ then an air ambulance arriving.

Father-of-two Mike Annicelli, 52, who also lives close to the zoo, described the crocodile enclosure, saying: ‘Everything is elevated, you’re far away from the animals.

‘There are some areas which have plastic glass so people can look through – but there is also 4ft fencing around the walkway so it is impossible for people to fall in accidentally.

‘Because of the way that railing’s set up it would be hard for a kid to climb over it, like a small kid.’

One villager said they saw staff at the zoo hugging each other and some were in tears after the incident.

Local councillor Charlotte Lowe, 52, said: ‘I can’t fathom how this happened. There is all sorts of protection at the zoo including perspex screens.

‘The only place where people can get over into the enclosure is the walkways which have fencing around them at chest height.

‘I don’t see how a child could have gone in accidentally.’

Two police cars were parked outside the zoo entrance last night as a uniformed officer stood guard at the main gate just a few yards from the farmhouse home of Mr and Mrs Johnson.

Mr Johnson, 56, became fascinated with crocodilians during a trip to Florida and adopted several from a private collector.

The site now is said to have a collection of around 50 crocodiles and alligators which are mainly used as an environmentally friendly way of getting rid of dead livestock.

The zoo’s website states its tropical house, a converted barn, is home to American alligator, broad-snouted caiman, Cuvier’s dwarf caiman, Morelet’s crocodile, Nile crocodile, saltwater crocodile, Siamese crocodile, spectacled caiman and West African dwarf crocodile.

The largest of these species is the saltwater crocodile, which is found between India and Australia and can grow up to 20ft long and weigh 3,300lbs – half the weight of a large SUV.

About half of the planet’s 23 species of crocodilians are considered dangerous to humans with the Nile crocodile and the saltwater crocodile responsible for the vast majority of human fatalities.

On Wednesday, the zoo marked International Crocodile Day by posting a picture on social media of one of its inhabitants.

The caption read: ‘Crocodilians are at the very core of our history, our passion and the journey that has shaped Johnsons Zoological Gardens into what it is today.

‘These incredible animals have inspired generations of our family and continue to fascinate visitors from all over the country.’

Toy Story 5: Unraveling the Mystifying Toy Rules That Keep Fans Guessing

0

Warning: Spoilers Ahead for “Toy Story 5”

Have you ever pondered whether a Roomba possesses a soul or if action figures need sustenance? These whimsical queries arise when you delve deeply into the “Toy Story” films. Originally, the 1995 animated classic introduced us to the enchanting concept of toys coming to life to bring joy to their young owner. However, as the series expanded to five films, it inadvertently crafted a complex mythology. While it may seem peculiar to label “Toy Story” as a fantasy saga, by definition, that’s precisely what it has become.

The latest installment, “Toy Story 5,” not only offers plenty of entertainment but also introduces perplexing elements to the series’ established toy laws, particularly with electronic and battery-operated toys. Though Buzz Lightyear himself is a battery-powered marvel replete with lights and sounds, the new film complicates the necessity of such power sources for various toys. References to batteries have been sprinkled throughout the earlier films, yet this time, the significance of power supplies for toys becomes even more bewildering.

The fundamental question of what qualifies as a toy also resurfaces. “Toy Story 4” explored this concept with Forky, who remained mere debris until Bonnie transformed him into a beloved plaything by adding googly eyes. But does this rule apply universally? Does any object included in play gain sentience? Can something like a Roomba, for example, possess a soul?

Some truths about the nature of toys in “Toy Story 5” are undeniable. A toy gains consciousness even before it’s matched with a child. This is illustrated in the film’s opening sequence, where high-tech Buzz Lightyear figures wash up on an island. This concept isn’t new to the series; it also appeared in “Toy Story 2” during the Al’s Toy Barn scenes. Moreover, toys inherently conceal their awareness from humans. Even before the Buzz Lightyear figures comprehend their toy identity, they instinctively revert to “toy mode” when humans approach, responding afterwards as if it were an involuntary reflex.

Toy Story 5 complicates how toys work

Here are a few things that are absolutely true about how toys work in “Toy Story 5.” We know that a Toy awakens as a sentient being before they are paired with a child. This is shown with the high-tech Buzz Lightyear figures who wash up on an island at the beginning of the movie, and it’s been shown to be true elsewhere in the franchise, like in the Al’s Toy Barn scenes of “Toy Story 2.” We also know that toys have a natural instinct to preserve the secret of their sentience. Before the Buzzes even understand that they are toys, they naturally fall into “toy mode” when a human comes near, reacting afterward as if it were entirely involuntary.

At the same time, we know that toys can supersede this instinct. In the very first movie, Woody speaks to Syd directly, driving him into a panic. Is this hard to do? Does it require some sort of strong resolve to overpower the “toy mode” instinct? Unclear.

Then there’s the battery situation. “Toy Story” has long played with the premise of batteries as they pertain to a toy’s well-being, but “Toy Story 5” focuses on that aspect in particular. We see that toys with low batteries almost seem drunk, but their batteries dying don’t seem to do any permanent damage. But why do battery-powered toys need batteries to move around, yet regular toys don’t? Woody isn’t alive because he has some sort of electricity running through him. While it would make sense for Lilypad’s screen to stop working if she has no charge, it feels odd that she can’t move at all without power, while other toys with no batteries at all seemingly have endless energy.

Toy Story will never make sense, and that’s okay

Again, we ask: Does a Roomba have a soul? At the end of “Toy Story 5,” Bonnie and Blaze have a playtime session that involves the household Roomba, and afterward, Lilypad implies to Jessie that she is romantically interested in the rotund vacuum robot. It’s a joke, yes — but is the Roomba a toy? Children themselves aren’t the progenitors of a toy’s soul, as evidenced by their sentience pre-sale. Yet in Forky’s case, the intention of a child was the source of life.

As Jaya Saxana wrote for GQ in 2018, tackling this same scholarly topic, “The consciousness of a toy is a tautology — toys are alive, and they are alive because that’s what toys are.” Peer review has found this statement to be true, while the Roomba question remains the subject of academic discourse.

At this point, “Toy Story” seems like it’s intentionally winking at those of us too philosophically minded to ignore such quandaries. The films taunt us, flaunting contradictions even as they stir more debate about the truth of consciousness. Such is the nature of all true art, perhaps, batteries included or otherwise.

Legal Team Expands: Karmelo Anthony’s Appeal Gains Momentum as Convicted Killer Pleads Financial Strain

In Frisco, Texas, the legal battle of Karmelo Anthony continues as he has enlisted the services of a new attorney to challenge his murder conviction. Anthony, who was recently sentenced to 35 years in prison, was found guilty of fatally stabbing 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during a high school track meet.

Following his conviction earlier this month, Anthony took swift legal action by filing a notice of appeal. According to court records from Collin County, his case is now in the hands of criminal defense attorney Lara Bracamonte Davila, who has been appointed to represent him in the appeal process.

Anthony’s journey through the legal system has seen a change in representation. Prior to Bracamonte Davila taking over, the court had initially appointed Donny Perales as his defense attorney. However, Perales is no longer part of Anthony’s legal team.

Before Bracamonte Davila was appointed, News Media learned that the court briefly appointed criminal defense attorney Donny Perales. He is no longer representing Anthony.

While Bracamonte Davila is the current court-appointed appellate attorney, in an email to News Media, Perales said, “It is expected that the Anthony family will be retaining an attorney for the appeal.”

Court records indicate days after his June 9 murder conviction, Anthony applied for what is known as a TDFA Indigent Packet in his appeal, which, according to the Texas Fair Defense Act, is where a defendant can apply for a court-appointed attorney if he or she is eligible.

To qualify, a defendant must prove he or she cannot afford legal representation. Anthony said he was “penniless, destitute, and indigent person, too poor to employ counsel to represent me on the appeal,” in a court document he filed on his own.

News Media previously reported that records indicate the Anthony family was tied to several businesses in Louisiana and Texas, and even opened a business weeks after their son murdered Metcalf.

Despite the appeals process, the Anthonys have yet to speak to the Metcalf family following the verdict, according to Austin’s father, Jeff Metcalf.

Metcalf said in a sit-down interview with News Media, “I don’t forget what he did to my son.” He went on to say, “I don’t have sympathy, but I gave him forgiveness, and the forgiveness was for me, of course, so I don’t carry the rage and the hate.“

News Media has reached out to Bracamonte Davila and the Anthony family for comment.

18 Fatalities Reported in Lebanon Amid Israeli Response to Soldier Deaths, US-Iran Agreement Overlooked

0

In brief

  • 18 Lebanese civilians have been killed in Israeli airstrikes across the country’s south.
  • Israel announced the deaths of four soliders, swearing vengeance.

On Friday, hostilities intensified in Lebanon as officials reported 18 fatalities resulting from Israeli air raids in the southern region. Meanwhile, Israel confirmed that four of its soldiers had lost their lives.

This surge in violence marks the gravest escalation since a U.S.-Iran agreement aimed at curbing broader Middle Eastern conflict was established. The pact was intended to also quell tensions between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

In response to the soldiers’ deaths, Israel’s far-right National Security Minister, Itamar Ben Gvir, expressed outrage, declaring that “Lebanon must burn.”

The Lebanese health ministry described the strikes as “intensive,” indicating they led to an initial count of 18 casualties and 33 injuries across at least 10 different villages and towns.

According to Israel’s military, numerous targets were struck throughout the night and into the morning hours.

“The IDF (military) struck more than 80 command centres, terrorists, launch positions, and additional terrorist infrastructure sites in the area of Nabatieh and additional areas in southern Lebanon,” an army statement said.

“Furthermore, during the strikes, dozens of Hezbollah terrorists operating in the command centres were eliminated.”

Iran-backed Hezbollah, meanwhile, said it was attacking Israeli forces around the southern town of Nabatieh.

Other Israeli strikes targeted the Baalbek region in the east of the country, which had been largely spared since the start of the conflict on 2 March.

Israel said its strikes in Baalbek and the Bekaa Valley were in response to “repeated violations of the ceasefire by Hezbollah”, which it said “continues to prepare and carry out terrorist attacks against Israeli soldiers”.

Earlier its military announced that Lieutenant Colonel Dor Gedalia Ben Simhon had “fallen in combat” along with three other soldiers whom it did not immediately identify.

A military official said the incident involved an impact from “a suspicious target” on an Israeli tank, with Israeli military correspondents reporting it had been hit by “a suspected drone or anti-tank missile”.

In a separate statement the military also reported that a reserve officer was severely wounded “as a result of an explosive drone impact in southern Lebanon”, with four other soldiers lightly injured.

‘Mothers must weep’

The soldiers’ deaths prompted a strong response from Israeli politicians.

“With all due respect to the Americans, Israel must make it clear to the entire world that the blood of our sons and the security of our citizens are not up for bargaining. All of Lebanon must burn,” Ben Gvir said in a statement.

“For every tear shed by an Israeli mother, a thousand Lebanese mothers must weep,” he added.

US officials including president Donald Trump have expressed frustration at Israel’s campaign in Lebanon, which it has pursued in spite of US negotiations with Iran and a separate ceasefire agreed in April that was meant to halt the fighting there.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Friday, that Israeli troops will stay in Lebanon “as long as necessary”, as he vowed to make Iran-backed Hezbollah pay a “heavy price” for its attacks.

“Israel will not tolerate attacks on our soldiers or our territory, and it will exact a very heavy price from Hezbollah for these attacks,” Netanyahu said in a statement.

“Israel will remain in the security zone in southern Lebanon for as long as necessary for the protection of the communities of the north.”

Defence Minister Israel Katz had also said the military would stay in Lebanon, adding it would respond “with considerable force” to any attack.

Hezbollah said early Friday that it had targeted Israeli troops “with a barrage of rockets and mortar shells” near the Ali al-Taher hills, a strategic feature overlooking Nabatieh.

It had also reported attacking Israeli tanks, saying forces “consisting of an armoured platoon and an infantry platoon (tried) to infiltrate towards the northern side of the Ali al-Taher hills”.

“The clashes are still ongoing,” it said.

Hezbollah drew Lebanon into the Middle East war in early March by attacking Israel to avenge the killing of Iran’s supreme leader at the start of the US-Israeli military campaign.

Israel retaliated with broad strikes across Lebanon and a ground invasion in the south, which borders Israel and has long been under Hezbollah’s sway.
