Tragic Loss: Former NHL Star and Team Canada Legend Passes Away at 47

0

Former Chicago Blackhawks player Kyle Calder has passed away at the age of 47.

The news of his death was shared via Instagram by his daughter, Madison, late Monday night.

While the exact cause of Calder’s death remains undisclosed, the Los Angeles Jr. Kings, the team he was coaching, mentioned that he had been battling a “brief illness.”

“Words cannot express how incredibly fortunate I was to have you as my father,” Madison expressed in her heartfelt post.

“I never imagined this day would come. There will always be a void in my heart, but also a special place just for you. The lessons you taught me, the strength you showed me, and the person you inspired me to become every day—I will carry all of that with me.”

‘Thank you for being my biggest fan through every stage of my life. Thank you for loving me unconditionally. I would give anything for one more conversation, one more hug, one more ‘I love you,’ or to hear your voice one more time.

‘I love you more than anything in the world to the moon and back infinitely. Save me a spot on the ice, Dad.’

The NHL Alumni Association released a statement, saying in part, ‘Today, we mourn not only a respected former NHL player but a cherished teammate, friend, and member of our hockey brotherhood.

‘Kyle embodied the values that make our alumni family so special: his loyalty, toughness, generosity, and an unwavering commitment to those around him. He was tough as nails on the ice, a fierce competitor who never backed down, yet behind that grit was a teddy bear heart.

‘Kyle cared deeply for his teammates, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to know him. He was a protector, a loyal friend, and someone who always put others before himself.’

Calder, an Alberta native, played in the NHL from 1999 to 2010.

After playing junior hockey in Kamloops and Regina, the Blackhawks picked him in the fifth round of the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.

Across six seasons in Chicago, Calder put up 85 goals and 210 points across 359 games.

He also made his first appearance in the playoffs with the Blackhawks in the 2002 Stanley Cup Playoffs, scoring two goals as Chicago lost in five games to the St. Louis Blues.

Later in his career, he would spend time with the Philadelphia Flyers and Anaheim Ducks

‘The Chicago Blackhawks mourn the loss of Kyle Calder and extend our deepest condolences to Kyle’s family during this extremely difficult and tragic time,’ read a statement from Blackhawks CEO Danny Wirtz.

‘Kyle approached life with the same passion, intensity and incredible dedication that defined his play… While Kyle’s time with us was far too short, I’m comforted in knowing his legacy will live on for many years to come.’

Calder played in Sweden during the 2004-05 lockout season and returned to Chicago to play one last year with them – scoring a career-best 26 goals and 59 points.

The Blackhawks traded him to the Philadelphia Flyers in August 2006 for Michal Handzus. Later in that 2006-07 season, Calder was traded back to Chicago – who then immediately flipped him to the Detroit Red Wings.

In Detroit, Calder would make his last playoff appearance – playing in 13 games before the Red Wings were eliminated by the eventual Stanley Cup champion Anaheim Ducks.

Calder played two seasons with the Los Angeles Kings from 2007-2009. His final games came with the Ducks in the 2009-10 season.

Calder also played multiple times for Team Canada and won the 2003 World Championships

In total, Calder amassed 590 regular season games, scored 114 goals and 294 points.

Internationally, Calder was on the 1999 Canadian World Junior team that won silver after losing to Russia in overtime.

As an adult, he was on Team Canada for the 2003 IIHF World Championships – scoring one goal and an assist as his country won gold.

He also represented Canada at the 2006 World Championships, finishing fourth.

Tragic Turn: Jealous Boyfriend’s Deadly Attempt to Intimidate Ends in Fatality

Two men have been arrested in Tennessee following the tragic shooting of a college student, allegedly sparked by jealousy over a woman. The incident has left a community in mourning and raised questions about the circumstances leading to such violence.

Brayden Carter, 19, and Damarion Coleman, 18, are facing charges of first-degree murder for the death of 20-year-old Andre Justus Bell, as announced by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. Carter is also facing additional gun-related charges, according to jail records reviewed by Law&Crime.

On January 11, Bell, a student at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee, was returning to campus after volunteering at a gymnastics event held at the Nashville Fairgrounds. He was driving his white Nissan Sentra on I-65 north, near the I-40 East junction, accompanied by two fellow students, as stated by the police and the university’s athletics director.

Tragically, a dark-colored sedan pulled up beside Bell’s car, and someone inside opened fire. Bell was struck in the head and succumbed to his injuries, a devastating blow to his friends, family, and the university community.

Authorities spent months diligently pursuing leads to identify those involved in this senseless act of violence. In March, the police department announced a $25,000 reward offered by Bell’s family, supplemented by a $5,000 contribution from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and another reward of up to $5,000 from Nashville Crime Stoppers, in hopes of encouraging anyone with information to come forward.

On Tuesday, officers announced their arrests of Carter and Coleman. They have also shared their suspected motive for the shooting.

Carter was jealous and possessive over his girlfriend, a member of the university’s gymnastics team, police said, citing cellphone data, per local NBC affiliate WSMV.

“It has been reported that he did not like other young men talking to her,” police added in a press release. “Carter and Coleman are alleged to have been at the fairgrounds that January night and followed Bell and his two teammates with the intent of scaring the basketball team to stay away from the girlfriend.”

Bell was a basketball player at Fisk University and was “a scholar and beloved, integral part” of the team, the athletics director said.

“[W]e lost a leader on and off the basketball court,” the team’s coach added in January. “He was a dominant force on the Fisk University Men’s Basketball team, but he was most remembered for his infectious smile, loving personality, and unique ability to always bring warmth to a room.”

Carter and Coleman also face attempted murder charges, but Coleman’s case is currently in juvenile court, as he was 17 at the time of the shooting. In their request for information about the incident in March, police did not mention anyone else in the car with Bell being injured.

Luigi Mangione’s Ally Draws Parallels with Far-Left DC Mayoral Candidate: A Political Shake-Up?

0

The political director for Janeese Lewis George, a Democratic socialist running for mayor in Washington, has publicly advocated for the release and pardon of the accused, Luigi Mangione. This stance was made known on her Threads account.

Since Mangione’s arrest, he has garnered considerable backing, including over $1.5 million in donations aimed at bolstering his robust legal defense team.

Makia Green, who identifies as George’s political director, expressed her views in a post on the app in May. Following the assassination of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, she urged for the suspected perpetrator, Mangione, to be freed.

In the days after UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s assassination, she called for his suspected killer Mangione to be released.

“Comment when you see this,” she wrote. “#FreeLuigi and pardon the youth!”

Her video garnered no replies. The New York Post unearthed it earlier.

In another video, she also complained about UnitedHealthcare, claiming she was a customer and that the insurer had assigned her a primary care physician she couldn’t find.

Most plans allow customers to pick their own PCP.

In 2020, the candidate ran for the city council, vowing to “cut police” in her ward. She’s also called for “free abortion care,” packing the Supreme Court and removing Justice Clarence Thomas.

Her positions have garnered her comparisons to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a fellow Democratic socialist who was recently embroiled in a Mangione-related scandal of his own after a group of outspoken supporters obtained city-granted press passes.

He later said they should not have been able to get them.

Mamdani, however, does not appear on the section of her campaign site touting endorsements from fellow politicians, unions and other groups.

Mangione is accused of stalking Thompson and shooting him in the back outside a Manhattan Hilton hotel, then fleeing to Altoona, Pennsylvania, where he was arrested while eating a McDonald’s breakfast.

The accused assassin was due in a New York court Tuesday morning in connection with the case, but his hearing was postponed by a day due to a mix-up.

He is expected to go to trial on Sept. 8 on state charges, which carry a maximum penalty of life in prison if convicted.

A separate federal trial is slated to kick off early next year.

Mangione has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Horrific Drive-By Acid Attack Injures Five Women in New Jersey

0

In a shocking incident in Jersey City, five women sustained burns following an alleged sulfuric acid attack by two individuals on a moped, as reported by officials.

The attack unfolded on Monday night on Wilkinson Avenue when the suspects drove by and flung the corrosive liquid at the women, according to statements from Mayor James Solomon and local news outlets.

Investigators suspect that this brutal assault was a targeted act, potentially connected to a previous altercation.

Following the attack, the women were quickly transported to nearby hospitals. They suffered from burns and skin irritation but fortunately, their injuries are not life-threatening, according to WABC. The victims’ identities have not been released.

All five women are currently in stable condition.

“My thoughts are with those hurt in this horrific attack, and I want our communities to know that violence like this has absolutely no place on our streets,” Solomon said in a statement on Facebook.

“I have directed JCPD to use its full resources on the investigation, and to ensure that our officers work around the clock to find those responsible and bring them to justice.”

No arrests have been made.

The investigation is ongoing.

World Stunned: Trump’s Unprecedented G7 Rebuke of Israel Dominates Global Headlines

During the Group of Seven summit on Tuesday, Donald Trump criticized Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for the high number of casualties in Lebanon.

As he engaged in bilateral discussions with Qatar’s delegation, which included Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the President voiced his concerns over Israel’s prolonged military actions in Lebanon.

“Israel has been in conflict with Hezbollah for too long, resulting in excessive loss of life,” Trump remarked while addressing reporters. “They should have completed their objectives more swiftly.”

He further commented, “It’s not necessary to demolish an entire apartment building while targeting individuals. Those buildings house many people, and not all of them are associated with Hezbollah.”

According to Lebanon’s health ministry, Israeli actions have led to at least 3,783 fatalities and injured 11,699 individuals in Lebanon from March 2 to June 14. The ministry’s reports do not differentiate between civilian and military casualties.

Trump also aired his anger with Bibi over the Israeli PM’s decision to bomb Beirut just two hours before the memorandum of understanding was to be signed by the US and Iran on Sunday.

‘Bibi has to be more responsible with respect to Lebanon,’ Trump said. ‘I’m not happy with the way Israel has handled themselves with Lebanon, and with Hezbollah.’

Trump also noted that he has told Israeli officials that Syria should ‘take care’ of the Iran-backed terrorist group Hezbollah.

‘I suggested to Israel to let Syria take care of Hezbollah,’ the President said. ‘If Israel can’t do the job without killing everyone else, he’ll do the job, Syria will do the job.’

Trump has had a warm relationship with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa since the leader took power in early 2025.

The two leaders have met at least three times during Trump’s second term and also had multiple phone calls.

The US President described him as a ‘young, attractive guy,’ and a ‘fighter.’

Trump’s high praise comes despite al-Sharaa once being on the FBI most wanted list for his connections to Al-Qaeda and terrorism.

The President also doubled down on his recent claim that Israel would have been destroyed by Iran.

‘Without the US, there would be no Israel. Without me, there would be no Israel because no other President was willing to do what I did.’

Israel is not a member of the G7, nor was it invited to join the delegation.

Has the conflict in Lebanon gone too far?

However, other Gulf partners who are not officially members of the G7, including Qatar and the United Arab Emirates, were invited to attend the summit.

Trump, Vance, and Iranian officials signed the MOU on Sunday to begin a 60-day negotiation period to hash out specifics on how to end the Iran war, a senior administration official told the Daily Mail on Monday.

The senior official did not mention whether Israel had signed onto the agreement, but they did note that under the MOU Israel will be allowed to respond to Lebanese attacks without violating the agreement.

Alabama Lowe’s Shooting: Suspect Stabilized, Deputy Discharged from Hospital Following Incident

0

DECATUR, Ala. — Authorities are currently investigating a shooting that took place Monday afternoon at a Lowe’s store, involving deputies from Morgan and Lawrence counties.

The incident unfolded at the Lowe’s on Beltline Road, where the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office was aiding the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office in the search for a wanted individual. The situation escalated, resulting in a shooting involving law enforcement officers.

The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office reported that one of its deputies was injured during the incident. Fortunately, the deputy has been released from the hospital, while the suspect remains in stable condition as of Tuesday morning.

“As is standard procedure in any officer-involved shooting, an external agency has been called upon to conduct the investigation,” stated the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office.

Initially, Decatur Police were tasked with the investigation. However, due to a Decatur Police Department officer’s involvement in securing the scene post-incident, the Limestone County Sheriff’s Office has now taken over the investigation to ensure impartiality.

A DPD Spokesperson confirmed that Decatur officers responded to the shooting. The department said that no Decatur officers were involved in the shooting.

FBI Uncovers Chilling Plot to Attack Trump’s White House UFC Event: Drones and Snipers in Crosshairs

0

The FBI has successfully disrupted an alleged scheme involving drones and sniper teams targeting attendees of the UFC Freedom 250 event at the White House, as reported by federal authorities.

According to officials speaking to Fox News, those behind the plot intended to deploy explosive-laden drones to strike nearby buildings. This was designed to create chaos and prompt an evacuation of the event.

Amidst the disorder, the conspirators allegedly aimed to direct attendees towards a waiting sniper team, as per the officials’ statements.

Furthermore, the suspects reportedly planned a ‘second wave’ of attacks, which involved breaching the White House gates, officials disclosed.

By Monday, authorities had detained five individuals linked to the scheme. Investigators have pinpointed a total of 23 individuals who may have been involved in the planning stages.

The White House event drew around 4,300 attendees, including President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and countless other top Cabinet officials.

Speaking at the G7 in France, Trump said he had not been told about the plot.

‘I haven’t heard about it, no,’ the President said. ‘The attack I watched were the fighters,’ he quipped, eliciting laughs from the room.

Just outside of the White House on the National Mall, thousands of people were in the area watching the UFC fights. June is a popular time for tourists to come to Washington, too, and America 250 events have drawn large crowds to the city.

Officials said the FBI was first tipped off to the scary plot on June 10 and worked with law enforcement to find probable cause for an arrest. One suspect was taken into custody in Cincinnati, according to officials.

The plotters allegedly discussed their plans in encrypted Signal chats, which investigators later accessed.

Officials said that at least 23 Signal users were involved in discussing the alleged plan, including operational details on how to carry it out.

Some of those in the chat went so far as to travel to Fredericksburg, Virginia, around June 12 or June 13 to prepare for the attack. The town is just about an hour’s drive south of Washington.

One suspect allegedly told authorities the group was targeting ‘capitalist elites’ and ‘billionaires.’

Several billionaires were there, including Meta chief executive Mark Zuckerberg, Paramount and CBS boss David Ellison, Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner and others.

Many in the presidential line of succession were also at the Sunday evening event.

House Speaker Mike Johnson, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick and FBI Director Kash Patel were all there.

Also on the alleged target list were politicians who received donations from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), according to sources.

At least 12 FBI field offices were involved in thwarting the plan.

‘The US Secret Service worked closely with the FBI throughout this investigation,’ Secret Service Director Sean Curran said in a statement.

‘In the days leading up to this weekend, our special agents, mission support personnel, and technical security teams worked around the clock to identify those responsible and hold them accountable.’

Last week, a woman from South Carolina mysteriously disappeared after being spotted leaving a Planet Fitness gym and heading towards a wooded area, sparking a search by local authorities.

Elena Katherine Moore, aged 39, was last observed on Thursday evening in Lexington, a town just west of Columbia. According to the Lexington Police Department, she has not been seen since her departure from the gym.

Moore was recorded signing in at the Planet Fitness around 6:40 p.m. She was subsequently seen walking away from the gym towards a wooded area situated behind a nearby Lowe’s Home Improvement store. Her absence was noted, and she was officially reported missing the following day.

As a personal trainer, Moore’s unexpected disappearance is considered highly unusual, as emphasized by the police in a statement to ABC News. Her career and lifestyle choices make her sudden vanishing all the more alarming to those who know her.

Authorities continue to investigate Moore’s disappearance, reviewing her last known activities and whereabouts in hopes of finding any leads that could shed light on her mysterious vanishing.

Investigators on Friday deployed a drone and conducted a preliminary search of the area where Moore was last seen, but found no sign of her.

On Monday, Lexington police joined multiple local and state agencies in a more extensive search of wooded areas behind the Lowe’s store and Planet Fitness. The operation included assistance from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division, Department of Natural Resources and other emergency response agencies.

Tragic Pit Bull Mauling: Boyfriend Arrested After Discovery of Three Deceased Dogs in Trailer

0

In a tragic turn of events, a man from Brevard County, Florida, has been charged with animal cruelty following the discovery of three deceased dogs in his trailer. This unfortunate incident comes on the heels of his girlfriend’s brutal death, who was fatally attacked by pit bulls belonging to a neighbor.

Donnell Smith, who witnessed his partner of many years, 50-year-old Jodi Cowan, being savagely mauled last month, now faces serious charges after authorities found his own dogs dead. According to WKMG-TV, Smith had left the animals confined in his trailer for several days, depriving them of food, water, and adequate ventilation.

Brevard Sheriff Wayne Ivey expressed his sorrow over the situation in a video statement released on Monday. “Folks, it doesn’t get any sadder than this,” he lamented. “Consider all the lives lost and affected by these events—it all boils down to a failure to care for the pets entrusted to us.”

Authorities were alerted to the grim scene on June 11 after receiving a report about a pervasive foul odor emanating from the trailer. Upon investigation, police spoke with Smith, who confessed that the dogs, once shared with Cowan, had been left without sustenance since June 2 or 3.

The dead dogs were discovered after police received a report on June 11 of a foul stench coming from the trailer. Police spoke with Smith, who eventually admitted that the dogs he had shared with Cowan had been in there without any food or water since June 2 or 3.

The Sheriff’s Office shared disturbing images of the decomposing pets.

Smith was taken into custody and is facing animal cruelty and other related charges. He is being held on a $15,000 bond.

Cowan was attacked by her neighbors’ bloodthirsty pit bulls on May 19 while she was out walking her smaller dog, surveillance footage shows.

Smith returned to their home that afternoon and heard screaming in the distance and saw their neighbors’ two dogs dragging Cowan down the road.

When he got to her, he found Cowan in a pool of blood covered in dog bites, Smith told local news outlets at the time. He said the pair of pit bulls came back and tried to take her away again.

“I pulled my knife out, you know, just swinging it with one hand and holding the blood with the other, trying to stop her from bleeding,” a distraught Smith said.

“It was brutal. Seeing the same woman I’ve loved for the last 25-30 years just ripped apart by two animals was just … I’ll never get that image out of my mind.”

He called 911 and Cowan was rushed to a hospital where she died from her injuries.

The pit bulls’ owner, Linda Cutler, 29, was arrested and charged with manslaughter. Her two pit bulls will be euthanized,

She faked having a heart attack when police hauled her away, according to the sheriff.

Pope Leo’s MAGA Brother Joins Trump Birthday Celebration: A Surprising Union Sparks Global Interest

0

The elder brother of Pope Leo XIV made an appearance at the President’s UFC Freedom 250 birthday celebration on the White House Lawn this past Sunday.

Louis Prevost, a 73-year-old retired Navy veteran residing in Florida, has captured public interest due to his vocal support for Donald Trump, which starkly contrasts with his brother’s frequent disagreements with the President.

Following his meeting with Trump in the Oval Office last May, Prevost returned for the festivities at the UFC Freedom 250 event held at the White House.

During the event, he was seen engaging in conversation with Vice President JD Vance. At one point, Vance introduced Prevost to Trump, where the two shared a warm exchange.

Prevost, sporting a shirt adorned with the American flag, appeared cheerful as he interacted with Vance, clearly enjoying the occasion.

Although the event was named in honor of the country’s upcoming 250th birthday, Sunday was also aimed at celebrating Trump as he entered his ninth decade.

It marks the second meeting between Prevost and the President who has publicly feuded with his brother, the leader of the Roman Catholic Church.

While Pope Leo’s old social media posts shared critical articles of Trump and Vance, his brother Louis was decidedly a Trump supporter, with a more colorful denunciation of Democrats like former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Trump responded warmly to the news that Louis Prevost was a fan of his politics, telling the press he would invite him to the White House.

‘I like the Pope. And I like the Pope’s brother. You know one of the Pope’s brothers is a major MAGA fan… He’s got MAGA. He’s got Trump,’ Trump told reporters last May.

‘I look forward to getting him to the White House. I want to shake his hand. I want to give him a big hug.’

His wish came true just hours later as a grinning Trump posed next to the pope’s brother.

‘Louis Prevost and his wife, Deborah, met President Trump in the Oval Office. It was a great meeting, and they left with Bibles in hand!’ a White House official confirmed to the Daily Mail.

It came just days after Prevost traveled with the official delegation from the United States to the Vatican to attend the pope’s inaugural mass.

The delegation included Vance and his wife Usha, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and his wife Jeanette.

Prevost conceded in an interview with Piers Morgan he would now be more disciplined about his posts on social media now that his brother is the Pope.

‘I can tell you, since then, I’ve been very quiet, biting my tongue,’ he said. ‘I don’t want to create waves that don’t need to be there because I’m a MAGA type and I have my beliefs.’

Louis explained his posts were an attempt to ‘stir the pot’ on politics.

‘Sometimes I like to go stir the pot,’ he said. ‘A lot like I think President Trump does. He says things just to stir the pot. Cause it’s fun to like get into some of these debates with people sometimes from the other side.’

Prevost also revealed he served on the same ship in the Navy as former Trump advisor and dynamite MAGA figure Steve Bannon.

‘I know Steve Bannon, I don’t know if he knows me but we served together in the same ship in the Navy, and I know what he was like,’ Prevost said, joking he had been trying to get Bannon to attend some of the reunions with his shipmates.

Despite concerns from some MAGA figures about the new pope, Louis Prevost tried to reassure them about his brother.

‘He’s not left, he’s not right, he looks at the whole scene, takes information from both sides and somehow finds a way to go down the middle and not ruffle too many feathers,’ he said.

Vance and the American delegation met with the pope and presented him with a personalized Chicago Bears football jersey and a letter from President Trump to the United States inviting him to visit the United States.

‘If and when he meets with President Trump, I don’t doubt there will be some bumps in the discussion and some heated conversations,’ he conceded in his interview with Morgan.

However, the President and the Holy Father have since gone on to issue withering statements about one another, albeit indirectly on the pope’s part, regarding the war on Iran.

The pontiff has also disagreed with Trump regarding the Department of Justice’s reinstitution of the death penalty.

The feud simmered down after Pope Leo issued a clarifying message about his remarks and accused the media of sensationalizing the narrative.
