Authorities report incident of gunfire striking woman’s vehicle while parked at Walmart

Background: The Walmart located on Austin Peay Highway in Memphis, Tennessee (Google Maps). Inset: Elijah Jones (Shelby County Sheriff”s Office).

While seated outside a Walmart in Tennessee, a woman discovered her car had been hit by a bullet. It was later revealed that a man accidentally shot through his own hand, with the bullet striking her vehicle, according to authorities.

Elijah Jones, 23, faces charges of reckless endangerment after allegedly firing a gun from within a car, as indicated by court documents. He has been taken into custody, and his bail is set at $100,000. More details can be found here.

According to an affidavit accessed by Law&Crime, the incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Saturday. The woman was in her 2013 Audi A4 parked at the Walmart on Austin Peay Highway in Memphis when she heard a gunshot. She soon noticed her rear passenger door had been hit by a bullet.

The woman recounted seeing the shot come from a white Chevrolet sedan, driven by a man who appeared to have a hand injury. The man then drove away from the scene.

Memphis Police Department officers arrived at the location, speaking with the woman and inspecting the damage to her vehicle. They uncovered a bullet fragment inside her car.

Investigators learned that Jones was in the emergency room of a nearby hospital “with a gunshot wound to his hand.” Officers also say they found a white 2017 Chevrolet Impala in the parking lot registered to him.

Inside, on the front passenger seat was a 10 mm Smith & Wesson M&P handgun, and there was a spent shell casing on the floorboard, the court document states. “Jones advised Officers that he was in the driver seat of his vehicle when he went to grab his gun from beneath the driver’s seat,” it goes on.

“As he picked up the weapon, it discharged, and the gunshot struck his hand,” authorities wrote. “He then drove to the hospital for treatment.”

Jones was arrested and booked into jail. He was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday.

Real Madrid Makes £130m Move for Arsenal Target in Pursuit of Next ‘Galactico’ Under Florentino Perez

Real Madrid has officially declared they submitted a £130 million proposal for Julian Alvarez, which was subsequently turned down.

The ex-Manchester City forward has been in high demand throughout the summer, attracting interest from Arsenal and Barcelona, alongside his current club Atletico Madrid.

This offer follows an announcement from Madrid’s president, Florentino Perez, who secured his leadership role until at least 2030 after a recent election, promising to pursue a ‘Galactico’ signing if victorious.

The club’s statement noted: “Real Madrid CF reports that, after today’s Board of Directors meeting, an offer of 150 million euros was made to Club Atletico de Madrid for the federative rights of player Julian Álvarez.”

However, Atletico de Madrid, while expressing gratitude for the proposal and acknowledging the positive relations between the clubs, has declined the offer, citing the player’s release clause as the reason.

Arsenal have been monitoring the forward, while Barcelona received backlash from their Spanish counterparts for their apparent approach.

At the end of May, Atletico shared a series of bizarre social media posts accusing Barca of a ‘smear campaign’ against them.

And, on Tuesday, they were at it again with Real as they hit back at the statement.

‘Official statement with our clarifications regarding the official statement from our neighbors, @realmadrid,’ they posted on X.

‘1. Your video of the Pope saying he was also an Atletico fan was cut short (in reference to the Pope visiting Real Madrid on Sunday). 2. You may have mistaken politeness for gratitude, but just to be clear: we are not thanking you for anything. 3. We are neither considering nor evaluating any offers for Julian.

‘4. How could we not get along, when you make us laugh even more than Barcelona.’

They added in a separate post: ‘P.S. Taking advantage of the good relationship with your new president, let’s see if you stop ‘stealing’ players from our Academy. Thanks a lot, @realmadrid!’

They had previously quoted the Madrid post with a series of laughing faces.

The first post aimed at Barcelona, meanwhile, showed Barca’s teenage sensation Lamine Yamal wearing an Atletico kit in an edited image. The caption read: ‘HERE WE GO! We have sent a fax to @FCBarcelona_es with our transfer offer: 4 tickets for tomorrow’s Bad Bunny concert, an annual subscription to ABC, and a bag of sunflower seeds. We eagerly await the response to prepare the “announce (sic)”.’

A second post, shared just a minute later, featured the same theme, but this time with midfielder Pedri. The caption read: ‘HERE WE GO! For this second offer we’ve had a problem, we’ve run out of tickets for tomorrow’s concert, so we improve the previous proposal with 6 for the one on Sunday.’

The third, which included an edited photo of Raphinha, read: ‘HERE WE GO! And to complete the 3×1, we’ve gotten all carried away and we’re going to throw the little house out the window: the player arrives on loan for a season and in exchange we loan out Tom Ford and Smith with no option to buy. An offer impossible to refuse.’

Alvarez, who has scored 49 goals in 106 matches for Atletico, reportedly believes Barcelona will offer him a better chance of silverware than Arsenal and Atletico. There have been no reports on his thoughts of a potential move to Madrid.

The 26-year-old currently has four years left to run on his contract, which contains a €500m (£430m) release clause – other reports have suggested that Atletico would in fact sell for £130m. That, though, has turned out to be false.

Alvarez’s agent Fernando Hidalgo increased speculation over his client’s possible move to Barcelona after sharing a post on social media of him travelling into the city.

A further post from Atletico read: ‘Finally, we want to take this opportunity to categorically deny that we have made an offer to the sporting director of FC Barcelona to join our scouting team in the Brazilian market,’ in reference to Deco.

They continued: ‘No, Atletico de Madrid would never do something like that. However, in recent months, we’ve been suffering a smear campaign against one of our players. Leaked information with ulterior motives, “fake news”, constant disrespect, the cule version of the propaganda machine inventing little stories, calls before direct matchups.

‘But of course, it wouldn’t occur to us either to have the referees’ vice president on our payroll or to resort to political favors to register players. RESPECT and VALUES.’

Madrid are looking to bounce back from a poor season that saw them lose out on the LaLiga title to Barcelona and also exit the Champions League early.

If he were to move, Alvarez, who is believed to have told Atletico he wishes to leave, would join an attack already featuring the likes of Vinicius Jr, Kylian Mbappe and Jude Bellingham.

Exclusive: Melania and Ivanka Among Trump’s White House Guests for UFC Event

0

WASHINGTON – First Lady Melania Trump is set to accompany President Trump at a UFC event on the South Lawn this Sunday night. Joining them will be several of the president’s adult children and a gathering of 5,000 special guests, including Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.

Donald Trump Jr. and his new wife, Bettina, are expected to make their first public appearance as a married couple, according to sources familiar with the family. Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, along with Eric and Lara Trump, are also slated to be present at the event.

The occasion marks a temporary return to the White House for Karoline Leavitt, who is currently on maternity leave following the birth of her second child. She will be attending alongside her husband, Nicholas Riccio.

This UFC event will see a rare appearance by the First Lady at the fights. Although she has attended such events previously, she often opts to sit them out. During a UFC fight in Miami back in April, Ivanka Trump accompanied the president.

Sunday’s event coincides with President Trump’s 80th birthday. As the president and his family enjoy the action from ringside, additional seating is being arranged around the octagonal ring to accommodate the president’s special guests and members of the military.

And about 85,000 people will be on the other side of the fence on the National Mall’s Ellipse, where they will watch the bouts on massive screens.

The excitement is building along with the mounds of infrastructure necessary to run the high-profile event.

The White House is getting spruced up ahead of the match: columns at the North entrance are receiving a fresh coat of white paint, new plants are being installed on the lawn, and a massive fight ring has been built on the South Lawn, complete with an overhead lighting system known as “the claw” and rows of bleachers.

The UFC is taking over 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue on Sunday, using all parts of the campus to run the event.

Craig Borsari, the UFC official in charge of executing the event, told ESPN the scale of the project, including the number of government agencies involved, was enormous.

“In order to get a project approved, there’s so many groups you need to go through and vet,” he said, naming off the Secret Service, White House operations, the Department of Homeland Security, the National Park Service and even the Pentagon.

While the South Lawn will host the fight itself and 5,000 guests, the North Lawn will serve as the staging area for fighters.

Some fighters may walk to the Octagon from the Oval Office, UFC CEO Dana White has said previously.

But most of the fighters will prepare in makeshift locker rooms in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. Several rooms, including the ornate Indian Treaty Room, in that building are being utilized by the organization.

Fighters will be escorted around the campus by Secret Service and UFC personnel.

Weigh-ins will happen in public at the Lincoln Memorial, which is currently closed off to the public as temporary staging is being erected.

The seven-bout card will feature a lightweight title bout between champion Ilia Topuria and interim champion Justin Gaethje. Other fighters, including international ones, will take their place in the octagon.

“The fight card is going to be going to be really good at the White House,” a senior administration official said. “I mean, you have some pretty good up and comers on the fight card, you have champions on the fight card.”

The UFC is paying for the event. The $60 million budget covered building the giant portable arena, the bleacher seating, concessions, and bathrooms for guests.

Contingency plans are in place for bad weather.  And the UFC will also pay for the cleanup, budgeting $700,000 to $1 million to repair the South Lawn alone.

Unless the ring stays, something President Trump has publicly mulled.

He noted in a video on the White House TikTok account that the Eiffel Tower in Paris was built to be a temporary structure for the 1889 World’s Fair but then: “They never took it down.”

“You know, we’re building something in front of the White House that’s quite attractive to a lot of people,” Trump said. “And I’m looking at it, and maybe we’ll never, ever take it down.”

Bodycam Footage Reveals Sheriff Nancy Guthrie’s Airport Gun Incident Ends Without Charges

0

Recently acquired security footage reveals Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos being stopped at the Tucson International Airport for attempting to bring an undeclared handgun through a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoint. The incident occurred as Sheriff Nanos was preparing to travel to Laguna Beach, California. The video was obtained by News Media via a public records request.

According to TSA regulations, law enforcement officers on active duty can fly while armed, provided they adhere to federal guidelines and inform the airline in advance. However, some critics argue that Sheriff Nanos received preferential treatment compared to what an ordinary citizen might expect under similar circumstances.

The incident, captured in November 2024, has only now been publicly disclosed. This development comes on the heels of the arrest of three YouTubers by Pima County deputies. The individuals were detained for purportedly creating a public disturbance in the neighborhood of Nancy Guthrie, sparking debates over First Amendment rights.

In the footage, Sheriff Nanos is seen listening to an officer as they read him his Miranda rights at the airport checkpoint after he was found with a loaded firearm. The Tucson Airport Authority recorded this exchange.

The arrested YouTubers have been identified as Alex Zabel, known online as “Criminal Network,” Troy Bradshaw, who goes by “DAA JUICE,” and Damian Enderle, the creator of the 857 Tucson channel.

Nanos missed his flight but was released without charges. Zabel and Bradshaw were both briefly jailed on June 8, while Enderle was given a citation.

“It looks like our lovely Sheriff Nanos has decided to go after YouTubers, streamers, and freelance journalists who dare enter the very street where Nancy Guthrie was kidnapped,” Enderle wrote on X Tuesday. “Meanwhile, less than a mile south, in a county-patrolled area, it appears to be a homeless fentanyl free-for-all.”

The three streamers face misdemeanor public nuisance charges. Zabel is also accused of obstructing the roadway.

A spokesperson for the Pima County Sheriff’s Department told News Media that numerous complaints about blocked roadways, trespassing and other neighborhood disruptions have been called in, and that warnings allegedly went unheeded.

“After reviewing video evidence showing one of the arrestees urinating in public behind a makeshift tent, Sheriff Chris Nanos has directed deputies to take a stronger enforcement approach,” the spokesperson said. “Sheriff Nanos will no longer tolerate behavior that disrupts the community or violates the law.”

The sheriff’s department did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the bodycam.

Going forward, the sheriff’s department is vowing to cite and release first-time offenders in Guthrie’s neighborhood. Anyone caught a second time may be jailed.

“Not sure those charges will stick, but it seems strange to still have people hanging around now that this has been a cold case for months,” said Dr. Matt Heinz, a member of the Pima County Board of Supervisors. “These neighbors deserve some peace.”

The Pima County Attorney’s Office declined to comment on the arrests.

“Due to ongoing litigation, we are not able to provide a comment at this time,” a spokesperson told News Media. “Thank you for your understanding, we will share updates when it becomes legally appropriate.”

There has been a ban on media parking in the neighborhood since late February after dozens of news vehicles camped out up and down the block for weeks.

As News Media previously reported, a local resident named Cory Stephens complained to the county board of supervisors at a public meeting on Nov. 12, 2024, that the sheriff did not face the same consequences a regular citizen would have.

“If a private citizen had encountered that at the airport, the consequences would have been greater,” Stephens, president of the Conservative Coalition of America, told News Media in April.

An incident report dated Nov. 6, 2024, shows a TSA X-ray technician saw the weapon in the sheriff’s bag and flagged an officer. Airport police found five rounds in the magazine and another in the chamber.

The sheriff was not charged or arrested, but the responding officer read him a Miranda warning.

Nanos told the officer that he had stayed at a hotel the night before, which he said was election night. He said he didn’t want to leave the department-issued gun in his vehicle, which he checked in with a valet. So he stuffed it in his bag.

“Got up this morning in a rush, we were late, and just threw everything in,” he says on bodycam video obtained by News Media.

The officer agreed it was an accident, informed his superiors and ultimately allowed Nanos to stow the weapon in his vehicle.

“You are free to go, good sir — have a wonderful vacation,” the officer told Nanos after escorting him to the concourse exit.

The sheriff missed his flight, however, and took a later plane to California.

Insight into Adult Creator Bonnie Blue’s Controversial Recent Stunt

Adult content creator Bonnie Blue has unveiled the details of her most recent provocative endeavor.

In an exclusive May interview with Us Weekly, Blue discussed her purported pregnancy and revealed her plans for an admittedly “disgusting” stunt at her upcoming baby shower.

Blue, whose real name is Tia Billinger, announced her alleged pregnancy following an eventful “breeding mission” where she engaged in unprotected intercourse with 400 men. This announcement comes a year after her separation from estranged husband Oliver “Ollie” Davidson in 2023, during which she confessed to Us her previous struggles with fertility.

“For years, I tried to conceive with my ex-partner and faced significant challenges, even considering the IVF route,” she shared. “I wish I could say pregnancy was possible for me naturally, but that’s not my current reality.”

Read on to discover more about Blue’s recent controversial stunt:

Are Bonnie Blue’s Fans Involved in Her Stunt?

In May, Blue exclusively told Us that her fans “will be involved” in her alleged baby shower.

“To celebrate a wholesome pregnancy, my baby shower will be so special it’ll turn into a golden shower,” she explained.

A “golden shower” is a slang term commonly used to describe an individual urinating on another person or persons for sexual pleasure or gratification.

“My fans can cover me in their urine and have sex with me. Traditional baby shower games will be played throughout the day; piñatas and my holes will be getting smashed,” Blue told Us. “My pregnancy has been a community effort and it’ll continue throughout my pregnancy. I don’t want to tear, so I plan on being stretched regularly.”

Why Did Bonnie Blue Call the Stunt ‘Disgusting’?

In a May Get Ready With Me video shared via TikTok, Blue admitted that she’s “not setting women back,” but instead “just setting myself back” with her latest stunt.

“And if I’m saying it’s disgusting then… It’s taking something very wholesome, like the pregnancy, and mixing it with something which is very much out there, even for the industry I’m in,” she said.

What Did Bonnie Blue Say After the Stunt?

Blue gave fans a behind-the-scenes look at her stunt in June, sharing a photo of her posing in front of several men wearing blue balaclavas to hide their faces.

“golden 🚿,” she captioned the post.

Karmelo Anthony’s Emotional Mother Appeals for Jury’s Compassion in Heartfelt Plea

0

A Texas jury has found Karmelo Anthony guilty of murder in the fatal stabbing of Austin Metcalf during a high school track meet.

At the age of 19, Anthony broke down in tears, joined by his emotional family, as the judge delivered the verdict on Tuesday. The sentencing range for his conviction spans from five to 99 years in prison.

In a heartfelt appeal, his mother, Kala Hayes, urged the jury to show leniency as they deliberate his sentence.

“He’s my oldest, my firstborn. He will always be my baby. I love him very much,” she expressed through tears.

“I know my son, and he deeply regrets his actions. Please have mercy on him,” she pleaded.

The jury deliberated for less than three hours after the defense and prosecution delivered closing arguments.

Anthony claimed he was acting in self-defense when he stabbed Metcalf, 17, with a folding knife after a heated argument at the high school event in Frisco in April 2025.

The case shocked America, and the discussion surrounding the killing of a white teen by a black peer quickly became racially fraught.

During closing arguments, prosecutors eviscerated Anthony’s self-defense claim and encouraged jurors to find him guilty of murder.

‘What is important is not motive. It’s mindset. Mindset. He took a knife to a track meet,’ Collin County First Assistant District Attorney Bill Wirskye said.

‘[Anthony] of course, felt empowered that he was going to come out on top of any encounter. You don’t get to meet a shove with a stab, especially if you provoke the shove.’

Wirskye added, ‘Why didn’t he just walk away. He could have left the tent at any time. He didn’t. He didn’t abandon the encounter.’

‘The video tells the story, supported by the eyewitnesses and corroborated by the defendant’s actions and words,’ Wirskye said.

Anthony’s defense attorney, Mike Howard, claimed Metcalf had ‘no legal right to put his hands on Karmelo.’

‘Texas law does not require that you wait until you get hit,’ Howard said. ‘In that split second of chaos, you must put yourself in his shoes.’

He also argued that Anthony, who was a student at Centennial High School, was invited over to the Memorial High School tent by a fellow student, despite there being no evidence of that.

‘Why would he pick a fight with a kid that’s bigger than him?’ Howard said. ‘Austin and Anthony had never met before. There’s no background.’

He continued, ‘It’s not about race. As much as people on the outside want to make it about that, one or the other. It’s not.’

Over the course of the nearly weeklong trial, jurors were presented with eyewitness testimony from students, coaches and investigators, as well as surveillance footage of the altercation.

Witnesses who were in the tent described Anthony as the aggressor, testifying that Anthony told Metcalf, ‘Touch me and see what happens,’ provoking Metcalf to push Anthony, who then pulled out a knife and stabbed him in the chest.

Prosecutors said Metcalf’s twin brother, Hunter, rushed to his aid as Anthony ran from the scene and later tried to blend into groups of kids who were fleeing the stadium.

Anthony sat motionless in court as police body camera footage showed Hunter pleading for help after the stabbing.

Hunter shouted, ‘Oh my God. He’s my best friend. He’s my brother.’

He became hysterical as he begged for help and cried out, ‘I can’t do this.’

At one point, Hunter grew incoherent and seemed to be praying out loud.

Jurors gasped in horror after being shown never-before-seen photos of Metcalf’s punctured heart during the trial.

Metcalf was stabbed once in the chest. The knife pierced through his bone in the center of his chest and punctured the right side of his heart, a medical examiner testified

While cross-examining the medical examiner, Anthony’s lawyers implied that Metcalf impaled himself on the knife.

After his defense lawyers called six witnesses to the stand who offered underwhelming evidence, Anthony opted not to take the stand.

In Texas, defendants have the right to ask a jury to determine their punishment, meaning jurors will be presented with evidence from prosecutors and defense attorneys and then decide the sentence.

Anthony’s supporters have claimed he had been treated unfairly because he is black, while critics said those allegations were used to try and distract from the horrific crime.

Twelve jurors and six alternates, who are mostly white, with the exception of three Hispanic people, two Asian people, and two from the Middle East and India, were selected to decided Anthony’s fate.

During jury selection, defense attorneys raised a Batson challenge: a legal objection used when it is believed potential jurors were struck off because of race.

The challenge and jury selection may come into question for possible appeals later in the trial.

This is a developing story.

Texas High School Track Meet Turns Deadly: Teen Found Guilty of Murder

A jury in McKinney, Texas, has reached a verdict in the case of Karmelo Anthony, a 19-year-old who was found guilty of murdering 17-year-old Austin Metcalf. The tragic incident occurred during a high school track meet, leaving a community reeling from the unexpected violence.

During the trial, which captivated the attention of many due to its focus on youth and the tragic events at a community sports event, prosecutor Bill Wirskye described the stabbing as “murder, plain and simple.” His statement came as the jury prepared to deliberate on the high-profile case.

Karmelo Anthony, who chose not to testify in his own defense, was involved in the fatal incident with Austin Metcalf back in April 2025. The case drew significant attention in Frisco, a rapidly growing suburb of Dallas, where both young men attended separate high schools.

Throughout the proceedings, the jury listened to contrasting arguments. Prosecutor Wirskye presented a narrative of intentional violence, while defense attorney Mike Howard argued that Anthony was acting in self-defense. Howard claimed that Metcalf attempted to forcibly remove Anthony, who was a student at Centennial High School, from the Memorial High School track team’s tent.

Howard emphasized to the jury that Metcalf had “no legal right to put his hands on Karmelo,” presenting this point as a critical aspect of Anthony’s defense. Despite these arguments, the jury ultimately sided with the prosecution, leading to Anthony’s conviction.

“Texas law does not require that you wait until you get hit,” Howard said. “In that split second of chaos, you must put yourself in his shoes.”

During the nearly weeklong trial, prosecutors have said that Anthony provoked Metcalf, and witnesses have testified that Anthony was the aggressor.

“This is not self-defense, folks. It’s murder plain and simple,” Wirskye told jurors Tuesday.

The courtroom at the Collin County courthouse was packed again as the public passed through an extra security checkpoint to get inside and watch before jurors began their deliberations.

Several schools were competing on a rainy April day when Anthony sat under the Memorial High’s tent that was perched in the bleachers. Metcalf and others had repeatedly told Anthony to leave, witnesses testified, leading to an escalating confrontation.

Anthony at one point reached inside a bag and replied: “Touch me and see what happens,” according to a police report.

Metcalf then pushed Anthony, according to witnesses, who said Anthony reacted by pulling out a knife and stabbing Metcalf in the chest.

“You don’t get to meet a shove with a stab, especially if you provoke the shove,” Wirskye said.

He said deadly force has to be “immediately necessary” to be legal and that Anthony could have walked away and abandoned “the encounter that he’d provoked.”

Wirskye also made a broader pitch to the jury: “Ultimately, this case is about accountability. What kind of community do you want to live in.”

Howard noted that Metcalf and Anthony did not know each other. He said Anthony “had absolutely no motive, other than that he felt he was in danger.”

Anthony could face up to life in prison if convicted of murder. Judge John Roach Jr. said the jury also could consider a lesser charge of manslaughter, which carries a maximum sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

If jurors don’t reach a verdict Tuesday, they’ll be sequestered without phones in a hotel.

One teammate told jurors that Anthony was “distraught” after the stabbing.

“I was hearing him say, ‘I told him not to touch me,’” the teenager testified Monday.

The judge ordered that the names of teenage witnesses not be made public.

The stabbing quickly drew wide attention, in part because of social media posts that amplified the case in racial terms. Anthony is Black; Metcalf was white. Both prosecutors and defense attorneys told jurors during the trial that race had nothing to do with the case.

North Texas Teen Convicted of Murdering Austin Metcalf at Track Meet, Karmelo Anthony Trial Reveals

0

A young man from Texas has been found guilty of murder in a case that captured the nation’s attention, far beyond the bustling Dallas suburb of McKinney, where the tragic incident took place. The teenager was convicted for the fatal stabbing of a 17-year-old track athlete from a competing team during a meet.

The jury dismissed Karmelo Anthony’s claims of acting in self-defense during his confrontation with Austin Metcalf in the stadium bleachers last year. Now 19, Anthony chose not to take the stand. Most of the testimonies came from students who recounted a tense argument over Anthony’s refusal to vacate a tent belonging to Metcalf’s team amidst a rainy event.

With his conviction, Anthony now faces a potential life sentence.

The trial, held in Collin County, attracted numerous spectators eager to witness the proceedings, all under stringent security measures. The two students were from different high schools in Frisco, a rapidly expanding Texas city known for its state-of-the-art educational institutions and sports facilities.

During the trial, several students testified that Metcalf had told Anthony to leave his team’s tent, which led to a mocking exchange before Anthony reached into a bag and brandished a knife.

One teenage witness recalled Metcalf telling Anthony, “You don’t have anything in that backpack. It’s Frisco.”

Outside attention on the case spread, in part, over social media posts that amplified the killing in racial terms. Anthony is Black; Metcalf was white. Prosecutors and defense attorneys told jurors that the case had nothing to do with race.

Instead, prosecutor Bill Wirskye called the stabbing a “sneak, surprise attack” and accused Anthony of egging on the confrontation. Mike Howard, an attorney for Anthony, said his client acted in a “split second of fear, chaos” after Metcalf made the first physical contact.

The stabbing happened on a rainy morning in April 2025. Teenage witnesses said the confrontation began after Anthony sat under a tent belonging to the track team of Memorial High School, where Metcalf was in his junior year.

Other students competing at the meet testified that several athletes told Anthony to leave the tent and that he was the aggressor. When Metcalf told Anthony he needed to move, Anthony reached inside a bag and replied: “Touch me and see what happens,” according to a police report.

Metcalf then pushed Anthony, according to witnesses, who said Anthony reacted by pulling out a knife and stabbing Metcalf in the chest.

One teammate told jurors that Anthony was “distraught” after the stabbing. Judge John Roach Jr. ordered that the names of teenage witnesses not be made public.

“I was hearing him say, ‘I told him not to touch me,’” the teenager said.

The parents of both Anthony and Metcalf have said they were good students who planned to go to college.

Unveiling the Tragic Heroism: How Rachel Nickell’s Young Son Became a Witness to Unimaginable Horror

The tragic murder of Rachel Nickell—a young mother brutally stabbed to death on Wimbledon Common while her toddler watched—captured public attention for years until her true killer was finally revealed over a decade later.

Netflix’s documentary, The Murder of Rachel Nickell, revisits this heartbreaking case, but omits certain details about the wrongly accused man and the early criminal history of the actual perpetrator.

For more details, continue reading below:

On July 15, 1992, 23-year-old Nickell and her two-year-old son, Alex Hanscombe, visited Wimbledon Common for a day at the park. Their outing turned tragic when a man violently attacked Nickell, knocking her son to the ground and stabbing her over 40 times.

“It was truly the worst crime scene imaginable. It appeared to be a frenzied assault,” recalled Met Police forensic detective Ron Turnbill in the documentary. “The victim had been attacked, dragged, and stabbed 49 times around the neck and chest. She lay with her hands up, as if still trying to defend herself. It was horrific.”

“It really was the worst crime scene. It just looked like a frenzied attack,” Met Police forensic detective Ron Turnbill recalled in the documentary. “The victim had been attacked, dragged, stabbed 49 times in and around the neck and chest area and she lay with her hands sort of up in front of her face as if she was still trying to protect herself. It was monstrous.”

Nickell was just 23 when she took her son Alex Hanscombe, 2, to Wimbledon Common on July 15, 1992 to spend the day at the park. While there, a man viciously attacked the young mother, throwing Hanscombe to the ground and then stabbing her more than 40 times.

Alex Hanscombe Tried to Fix His Mom in the Aftermath of the Attack

Hanscombe was found, caked in mud and blood, clinging to his mother’s lifeless body. While Nickell’s numerous wounds have been well documented, there’s one heartbreaking detail that has garnered less attention.

When Nickell’s body was discovered, she was found with a tiny piece of paper placed on her forehead, according to The Guardian. Her son had placed it there as a makeshift bandaid in the hopes of fixing his mother, as he clung to her body and cried, “Get up mummy.”

Colin Stagg Received Nearly $1 Million Settlement in Rachel Nickell Case

Less than a year after the slaying, Colin Stagg became a suspect after he allegedly resembled a sketch created from Hanscombe’s description of the killer, per the documentary.

Stagg was charged in 1993, per The Guardian, but the case against him collapsed months later after Justice Ognall condemned the police for setting a honey trap that resulted in “deceptive conduct of the grossest kind.”

Police had used an undercover officer to write Stagg sexually intimate letters under the name “Lizzie James” in a misguided effort to get him to confess to the murder, according to The Independent. Stagg—who spent a year behind bars before he was ultimately ruled out as the killer—never made any admission to link him to the crime.

In 2008, he was received a settlement of nearly $1 million for the damage the false accusation caused to his life.

At the time, his attorney Alex Tribick told The Guardian, “Colin is realistic enough to realize and accept that his name, no matter what happens, will always be synonymous with the tragic events of Rachel Nickell’s death.”

Colin Stagg Threatened Someone With an Axe After His Release From Custody

Despite his case being thrown out in court, Stagg remained under public scrutiny for years. In 1995, while in Wimbledon Common—the same park where Nickell was murdered—he pulled an axe on someone during a fight, according to The Independent.

“His life, in short, was a complete and utter misery,” his attorney Ian Ryan said at the time. “He lost his sense of reality.”

Stagg was ultimately sentenced to 12 months probation after pleading guilty to threatening behavior and possessing an offensive weapon, per The Guardian.

Samantha Bissett’s Body Was Discovered By Her Boyfriend

Nickell’s murder was linked to rapist and convicted killer Robert Napper in 2004 after DNA advances linked Napper to the scene through a crime database, according to the documentary.

At the time, Napper was already serving time in a psychiatric hospital for the 1993 murders of Samantha Bissett, 27, and her daughter Jazmine, 4. Bissett was discovered stabbed and mutilated on the couch of her home, while her young daughter had been sexually assaulted, killed, and hidden under a duvet in a bedroom, according to the documentary.

The victims were discovered by Bissett’s boyfriend Conrad Ellam, according to The Independent.

“The first thing I saw was a stain on the carpet, which turned out to be Sam’s blood,” he recalled. “I couldn’t tell so I thought Jazmine had knocked paint over.”

He then stumbled upon Bissett’s body in the living room, before going in search for her daughter.

“I couldn’t really understand it all,” he said of the murders. “I don’t know how you’re supposed to react to something like that.”

Robert Napper Attacked Another Mother Weeks Before Rachel Nickell’s Murder

Napper admitted to killing Bissett and her daughter in October 1995 on the grounds of diminished responsibility, per The Independent. That same year, he admitted to another rape and two attempted rapes.

The grisly crime was detailed in The Murder of Rachel Nickell—but Nickell and Bissett weren’t the only young mothers to have been targeted.

Just seven weeks before Nickell’s death another 22-year-old mother had been walking with her 2-year-old daughter in a stroller through southeast London when someone grabbed her from behind and put a ligature around her neck, The Guardian reported.

The woman—identified in the news outlet only as “C”—was stripped, raped and beaten as her young daughter watched.

“I asked him not to kill me,” the woman said, per The Guardian. “He didn’t stop hitting me. He put a rope around my neck and kept bashing me on the head.”

While the victim survived, Nickell and Bissett did not have the same fate.

Napper was later linked to the Green Chain rapes through DNA, The Guardian reported.

Robert Napper Was Dismissed As Rape Suspect Due to His Height

Napper had a long string of criminal history before his arrest. According to The Guardian, he grew up watching his father abuse his mother and was assaulted by a family friend during a camping trip at the age of 12.

He was arrested for the first time in 1986 for  being in possession of an airgun. Not long after, he allegedly confessed to his mother that he raped a woman on Plumstead Common. Although she called the police to report the attack, police could not find any evidence and let the matter drop, the outlet reported. However, there had been a 31-year-old woman raped in front of her children by a masked intruder eight weeks earlier, per The Guardian.

Then, over a two-month period in 1992, three other women—including “C”—were attacked along Green Chain Walk.

When Napper’s neighbors suggested him as a possible suspect in the Green Chain rapes, police questioned him and asked for a blood sample, but he failed to ever provide one. He was eventually dismissed as a possible suspect because he was taller than the description provided of the attacker, per The Guardian.

Napper was also accused of stalking someone in October 1992.

During a search of his home, police found two knives, a crossbow, .22 pistol and notes describing how to restrain someone, maps and a fitness card belonging to a young woman, the outlet reported. He later pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm and ammunition.

Metropolitan Assistant Commissioner Cressida Dick said in a statement in 2010 that police planned to offer an apology to Hanscombe and his father Andre Hanscombe for not doing more to stop Napper before Nickell’s killing.

“The Met has accepted that more could, and should have been done,” Dick said per the BBC, “and had more been done we could have been in a better position to have prevented very serious attacks by Napper.”

Independent Police Complaints Commission Commissioner Rachel Cerfontyne also noted “bad decisions” and “errors” had been made in the investigation.

“Without these errors, Robert Napper could have been off the streets before he killed Rachel Nickell and the Bissets,” she said, “and before numerous women suffered violent sexual attacks at his hands.”

Robert Napper Apologized to Colin Stagg After Pleading Guilty

Napper pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection to Nickell’s death in December 2008.

Through his attorney David Fisher, he offered Stagg an apology.

“At the time of these events, the arrest and the preliminary trial of that man, this defendant was not in a satisfactory mental state to appreciate what was going on,” Fisher said, according to The Independent. “He is now.”

Police also issued Stagg an apology.

“I apologize to him for the mistakes that were made in the early 1990s,” Metropolitan Police Assistant Commissioner John Yates said, per the outlet, “and we also recognize the huge and lasting impact that this has had on his life.”

Knicks’ Jose Alvarado Responds to Jalen Brunson Incident, Sends Strong Message to Victor Wembanyama

The memory of Victor Wembanyama’s controversial play in Game 3 remains fresh in the minds of the New York Knicks. During the first quarter of the San Antonio Spurs’ triumph at Madison Square Garden, Wembanyama was seen sending Jalen Brunson to the hardwood. Surprisingly, the referees chose not to blow the whistle.

Jose Alvarado, the spirited backup guard hailing from Brooklyn, didn’t mince his words on Tuesday. “I think that’s not basketball,” he asserted. “That’s something they gotta look at. But he got away with one. That’ll be the last one.”

The NBA has the authority to review and possibly reclassify the incident as a flagrant foul after the fact. However, as of Tuesday afternoon, no such decision had been made.

Wembanyama is no stranger to scrutiny this postseason. Earlier, he was hit with a flagrant two foul for a similar aggressive move against the Timberwolves when he elbowed Minnesota forward Naz Reid in the throat, which added two penalty points to his record.

Wembanyama was already assessed a flagrant two foul earlier in the postseason against the Timberwolves for throwing an elbow at the throat of Minnesota forward Naz Reid, giving him two penalty points.

Four points triggers an immediate one-game suspension. So if he was retroactively assessed a flagrant one — that is one penalty point — he would have to be careful to avoid missing a game in the Finals.

Brunson has not directly commented on the play. When asked about it after Game 3, he said: “Whatever you saw is what you saw.”
