Urgent Appeal: Savannah Guthrie Issues New Plea Following Mother’s Suspected Abduction

Four months have passed since Savannah Guthrie’s mother went missing, and the TV anchor is renewing her appeal for her mother’s safe return.

In a heartfelt Instagram Story, Guthrie shared an image of a painting depicting Jesus Christ’s ascension. Overlaying the artwork were the words, “Oh my, my soul it cries out, soul, it cries out.”

Accompanying the image, Guthrie added a poignant message: “bring her home,” punctuated with a yellow heart emoji.

Illinois Implements Groundbreaking Social Media Tax: Everything You Need to Know

Social media platforms are unable to shift new fees onto their users.

The latest budget from Illinois introduces several new taxes, including one aimed at social media companies operating within the state. The system is structured to tax platforms based on user numbers: Platforms with between 100,000 and nearly 500,000 users face a charge of 10 cents per user monthly, representing the lowest tax bracket. This fee escalates for platforms with 500,000 to just under a million users, who will pay $40,000 each month plus an extra 25 cents per user over the 500,000 threshold. The highest bracket targets platforms with over a million users, imposing a fee of $165,000 monthly along with 50 cents per user exceeding the million-user mark. This taxation is expected to generate $200 million annually, and importantly, these platforms are prohibited from transferring these costs to users.

During a discussion with host Jim Niedelman, House Minority Leader Tony McCombie and State Senator Mike Halpin delved into the implications of this new tax.

(OurQuadCities.com)

“This fee targets major tech companies like Facebook and TikTok, based on their Illinois user base,” explained Halpin. “It establishes a direct financial relationship with Illinois, a state where these companies have not contributed adequately to mitigating the negative impacts of social media.”

“This is a social media platform fee that charges the big tech companies like Facebook and TikTok, based on the number of their Illinois users,” Halpin said. “It’s a direct connection to the state of Illinois, a state where they don’t contribute to addressing a lot of the harms of social media.”

“We, as the users, are going to be paying them, so it is a tax on us,” McCombie said. “It’s not big corporations that are going to be paying for these.”

Travis Kelce Teases Possible Wedding with Taylor Swift and the Return of ‘Taymerica’ Festivities

0

Taylor Swift’s iconic “Taymerica” celebration might be making a grand return this year, potentially in the form of her wedding. According to revelations from the Daily Mail, the pop sensation could be ready to walk down the aisle with fiancé Travis Kelce during the July 4th weekend.

Both Taylor and Travis, who are 36 years old, reportedly plan to exchange vows at the renowned Madison Square Garden in New York City. Sources indicate that the couple is set on embracing a lavish and public affair at this legendary venue, known for hosting significant concerts and sporting events, with a capacity to accommodate up to 22,000 guests.

Insiders suggest that the wedding is scheduled for July 3, just ahead of the Independence Day festivities. This timing raises the enticing possibility that guests might experience a present-day rendition of “Taymerica,” echoing Swift’s famed Fourth of July parties that once captivated social media.

Adding to the speculation, Travis Kelce, an NFL star, hints in his latest book that the wedding could carry a patriotic flair. He mentions a theme that pays homage to the US military and honors the men and women who serve and protect the nation.

And now, the NFL star’s own words in his new book also suggest the nuptials could have a patriotic theme honoring the US military and men and women ‘who protect this country.’

In No Dumb Questions: And All of Our Dumbest Answers, the new book Kelce wrote with his brother Jason, the pair discuss their love for America and what makes Independence Day so special.

‘There is something around being around servicemen around Fourth of July that just makes it like that much more meaningful,’ Jason writes.

‘It really hits you more, I feel like. It’s hard to come up with a great memory of Fourth of July because it’s really just being around the people. It always comes down to family, friends. It’s the one day that we all get to celebrate that we’re in this country together.

‘Thanksgiving is more family oriented. Fourth of July is like: ‘We’re America, bubba, and this is the big day that we became America’.

Later, Travis chimes in to say he ‘couldn’t have said it better,’ agreeing that the celebration is about ‘those who protect this country today’.

Kelce has been frank about his patriotism in the past and last July 4th posted a picture of some fireworks on Instagram and wrote: ‘Cheers to you, oh beautiful America.’

Swift is known to be a huge fan of the holiday herself thanks to her famous Fourth of July parties, her last being in 2016 – which included giant water slides, towels and swimsuits in red, white and blue to celebrate America at her Rhode Island mansion.

Social media photos showed the pop singer posing with Cara Delevingne and Gigi Hadid in red, white and blue swimwear while waving American flags, helping cement the event as one of the defining celebrity gatherings of the era.

The festivities generated headlines around the world and became so synonymous with Swift that fans coined the nickname ‘Taymerica.’

The star has been known to have admiration for the military too and has a history of service in her family.

Her paternal grandfather, Archie Dean Swift Jr, served in the US Marine Corps during WWII and fought in the brutal six-month long Battle of Guadalcanal in the Solomon Islands in 1942 and the Battle of Okinawa in Japan.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly in 2020, Swift said that her grandfather ‘had seen a lot of heavy fire and casualties – all of the things that nightmares are made of’.

In his new book, co-authored by his brother Jason, Kelce speaks of his love for America and the Fourth of July - which they see as a celebration of the men and women who 'protect this country'

The atrocities he saw were the ‘actual definition of unspeakable’, Swift said.

While Swift’s grandfather died when she was very young, her father used to tell her that he would say: ‘I’m not supposed to be here. I shouldn’t be here.’

Swift was so moved by the stories that wrote the song ‘Epiphany’ about Archie, as well as healthcare workers on the front line during the Covid-19 pandemic.

In another sign of her respect for the military, in 2016 Swift made a surprise visit to her then oldest fan, 96-year-old WWII veteran Cyrus Porter, at his home in Missouri.

Porter had been to two Swift concerts with his dozens of grandchildren and credited the singer for bringing him closer to them.

Elsewhere in the book Kelce says that he would never get married in the fall because the football season is happening then: he has signed up for one more season with the Chiefs after rumors about his retirement.

For Kelce, football appeared to be more important than anyone’s wedding – including his.

Kelce said: ‘You got to be willing to find a weekend where the team isn’t playing anybody good….it’s a whole weekend thing.

‘Don’t make my friends have to not go. Everybody’s got (football) season tickets, all right? Don’t make my friends have to choose whether or not they have to sell their tickets that week’.

Sherwin-Williams Unveils ‘Offbeat Green’ as 2026’s Most Unique Color

0

LeBron James has managed to breathe new life into what was once considered the most forlorn of colors.

Offbeat Green SW 7606, a shade largely overlooked within Sherwin-Williams’ expansive palette, has recently been dubbed The Loneliest Color of 2026. This greenish-yellow tone, often relegated to the back of paint swatches, is described as an “earthy, lime green” in an effort to highlight its understated charm.

In an intriguing twist, Sherwin-Williams has embraced this underdog hue, marketing it as an opportunity to “rediscover the beauty of color.” Each year, the company selects a lesser-known shade, aiming to breathe new life into it through innovative pairings and vibrant displays.

Once collecting dust on shelves, Offbeat Green has found salvation through a unique collaboration with the LeBron James Family Foundation. This partnership has not only spotlighted the color but also aimed to rejuvenate its image.

Central to this collaboration is the PROMISE Project, a transformative initiative focused on constructing a home education center in Akron, Ohio. This center, meant to empower first-time homeowners, will feature a door painted in this distinctive yellow-green. Launched in 2011, James’s I PROMISE initiative continues to uplift educational opportunities and provide family support in his hometown, now with an unexpected splash of color.

The two organizations say the partnership comes from the shared values of finding “hidden potential” and “opening doors” for those who don’t have opportunities. For Offbeat Green, that means a revival and potentially being used on new doors and walls; for new homeowners, it means being given step-by-step guidance in the path to homeownership.

Sherwin-Williams markets the loneliest color as “finding value in what others overlook,” which James says coincides with building confidence in those who need support and encouragement, like potential homeowners.

Along with the project, the partnership has set up various giveaways and sweepstakes, including an Offbeat Green basketball signed by the basketball legend.

Offbeat Green joins other flat paint shades like Radiant Lilac and Kingdom Gold in The Loneliest Color Archive, as each year the company chooses an unpopular shade and reframes it as “unconventional.” Last year, WNBA star Paige Bueckers promoted The Loneliest Color by referring to it as “unapologetic.”

Sherwin-Williams has remarketed the repellent green by describing it as a “celebration of individuality” and a nature-esque color that “isn’t afraid to go against the grain.”

Unprecedented Discovery: Unique Silencer Stuns Veteran Detective in Mangione Case

0

In a recent interview, a retired NYPD detective who was involved in the investigation of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson’s assassination described the silencer recovered from the crime scene as unlike anything he had encountered before. This detail highlights the level of sophistication and planning that investigators believe went into the murder.

Retired NYPD Detective Sgt. John Griffin shared with “Dateline” on Friday that in his 25-year career, he had never come across such a device.

“It featured something on the front, resembling a homemade suppressor or silencer,” remarked Griffin, who served in the NYPD’s major crimes unit.

Luigi Mangione, 28, faces charges for the assassination of Brian Thompson, a 50-year-old father of two from Minnesota. Thompson was shot and killed on video outside a Manhattan Hilton hotel on the morning of December 4, 2024, just before a scheduled investor conference.

Pat Diaz, a private investigator who spent 30 years as a homicide detective in the Miami area, told News Media Monday that silencers were a big part of the violent “Cocaine Cowboys” and mafia era of the 1980s and 1990s.

“Usually on major drug killings, they’d just drop the weapon there, because most of the time they were untraceable,” he said. “It wasn’t unusual in the ’80s, ’90s, to come up with a firearm with a silencer on it — especially in Miami.”

Stricter laws diminished their use in more recent decades, but they are making a resurgence, he said.

The 3D-printed version shows some capability with mechanical engineering as well as intent, he added.

“It shows his frame of mind,” Diaz said. “Insanity is out the door, because he was of sound mind to be able to engineer and design a silencer.”

Typically, a printed device requires multiple components to be created and then assembled — then fitted to the weapon safely.

The former Ivy Leaguer has pleaded not guilty to state and federal charges in connection with the case and could face life in prison without parole if convicted on the most serious federal charges.

In New York, he faces a maximum penalty of life imprisonment if convicted, which would include a chance of parole.

“In 25 years, I don’t think I’ve ever actually encountered a silencer before that,” Griffin told “Dateline.”

That image circulated widely, leading customers and workers at a Pennsylvania McDonald’s to call 911 five days later when Mangione was eating breakfast at a corner table.

He was arrested there, and searches of his bag allegedly turned up the suspected murder weapon and a 3D-printed suppressor.

“You go back to the theory that these guys think they can get away with anything,” Diaz said. “Somebody recognized him…In New York he’s one among millions — where he went, he stood out as an outsider.”

Mangione is due back in both courthouses next week.

Unlock Health Benefits with the $8 Superfruit: Boost Immunity and Shed Pounds Naturally

0

Summer often evokes memories of sun-soaked beach days and the jingle of the neighborhood ice cream truck. While the warmer months invite us to fire up the grill for hamburgers and hot dogs, they also herald the arrival of a vibrant array of fruits, with cherry season hitting its peak from late May through August.

Cherries are nutritional powerhouses, packed with vitamin C, potassium, fiber, and antioxidants. Despite their natural sweetness, they remain low in calories, offering a delicious, healthy, and convenient snacking option.

According to Anne Till, a registered dietitian at the Anne Till Nutrition Group in Cary, North Carolina, “Cherries are, first and foremost, a whole-food fruit. This means they are completely unprocessed and vibrant additions to a health-supportive, whole-food diet,” she shared with the Daily Mail.

To ensure you select the most flavorful and nutritious cherries, Till advises opting for firm, glossy ones with fresh green stems, while steering clear of any that appear dull or wrinkled.

For the best tasting and most nutritious fruit, Till recommends choosing firm, glossy cherries with green stems and avoiding dull or wrinkled fruit.

Cherries offer a range of health benefits. Here’s an overview of their nutritional and metabolic qualities.

Cherry nutrition facts

One cup of cherries provides a compact mix of vitamins, minerals, and carbohydrates.

The fruit’s nutritional profile is estimated to have 97 calories, 24 g of carbohydrates, 3.2 g of fiber to support digestion, up to 330 mg of potassium to support blood pressure and fluid balance and 10 mg of vitamin C for immune support.

The glycemic index advantage

Despite their sweetness, cherries have a low glycemic index, a ranking of foods on how quickly they raise blood sugar levels, and a low glycemic load, a measure of how much a food raises blood sugar.

This means they raise blood sugar slowly, making them a smart choice for a naturally sweet snack that supports steadier post-meal blood sugar, Till said.

Steady blood sugar can help support a healthy weight or aid in weight loss.

It also helps reduce cravings and supports appetite control.

Antioxidants, anthocyanins and heart health benefits

A cherry’s deep-red color signals powerful phytochemicals, especially anthocyanins, types of antioxidants that protect from environmental stressors.

These antioxidants protect cells from free-radical damage and may help reduce inflammation linked to long-term health issues, supporting heart, joint, and overall health.

Additionally, cherries have been linked to improving heart health, and clinical research surrounding cherries points toward modest yet valuable cardiovascular perks, Till said.

A 2024 study found that consumption of cherries reduced blood pressure and stated that several clinical trials have demonstrated that the consumption of fruits containing anthocyanins can reduce blood pressure, which improves overall heart health.

However, Till advised: ‘I never recommend hanging your hat on a single nutrient or fruit to prevent heart disease.’

‘You cannot eat one specific food and expect it to save you from poor dietary choices or an overall inactive lifestyle. Cherries should be viewed as a valuable non-pharmacological tool that works in tandem with a comprehensive, health-focused lifestyle.’

Improving sleep quality

Cherries, especially tart cherries, may improve sleep.

They contain melatonin, the body’s natural sleep hormone, which helps regulate the sleep-wake cycle and may support mood, focus, and energy.

The fruit also contains trace amounts of tryptophan, which has been linked to improved sleep time and quality.

A 2012 European Journal of Sleep Medicine study followed 20 participants who were asked to drink tart cherry juice twice daily for a week.

Participants drinking the juice ended up napping less and sleeping longer at night than those who received a different drink.

And a 2019 study found drinking 30mL (1oz) of tart cherry juice twice per day increased sleep time by an hour in older adults with insomnia.

Cherries can be an excellent supportive aid, and they work best when paired with excellent sleep hygiene, a consistent bedtime routine, and regular physical activity, Till added.

Exercise and post-workout muscle recovery

Studies suggest tart cherries may reduce muscle soreness, speed recovery, and ease joint inflammation, making them appealing to athletes and active people.

Till said the evidence for exercise recovery is among cherries’ strongest health claims.

Data has shown that runners and athletes who consume tart cherry juice can reduce post-exercise inflammation and muscle pain.

The cherries’ natural carbohydrates also help refill muscle glycogen stores – your muscles’ energy source – quickly after intense exercise.

Evidence shows drinking cherry juice either before or after exercising yields the same benefits, and pairing it with a protein after working out maximizes its effects.

Be cherry aware

Cherries are generally healthy, but there are a few safety and digestive concerns to keep in mind.

Cherry pits pose a choking risk, especially for young children and older adults.

They also contain cyanogenic compounds, but an intact pit usually passes safely through the digestive tract.

Crushed, bitten, or chewed pits can release toxic hydrogen cyanide, so pits should always be removed before serving cherries to children or other vulnerable people, Till told Daily Mail.

Cherries are typically in season during summer in the US, though frozen cherries are available year-round

Also, people prone to kidney stones may want to limit cherries because they are relatively high in oxalates and eating too many cherries can also cause bloating, gas, or diarrhea in people sensitive to fructose, said Jennifer Beery, a registered dietitian at Orlando Health Center for Health Improvement.

Also, she cautioned that those taking blood thinners should check with a doctor, as cherries may interact with these medications.

‘It’s best to ask a physician about the safety of cherries, cherry juice, or supplements,’ added Beery.

How to incorporate cherries into a diet

Enjoy pitted cherries, typically sold for about $8 per pound, as a snack or with low-fat Greek yogurt or oatmeal for a high-fiber, higher-protein breakfast or dessert.

Cherries are also good blended into smoothies, or with a splash of tart cherry juice in sparkling water.

Beery also recommends buying them in season – typically summer in the US – for the best price, though frozen cherries are available year-round.

Doja Cat Stuns in Sheer Latex Ensemble Featuring Faux Piercings, Dramatic Sleeves, and Lipstick Motifs

0

When it comes to making a statement, Doja Cat never misses the mark, transforming her public appearances into captivating displays of artistry.

During her recent visit to a Sephora store in Paris, a collaboration with MAC Cosmetics, the singer used her sheer latex ensemble as a striking canvas for the brand’s signature red lipstick.

The attention-grabbing outfit, featuring faux nipple piercings, a ruffled hem, and oversized puff sleeves, captured everyone’s attention along the bustling Champs-Élysées.

Adding to the ensemble’s flair, Doja Cat wore green latex thigh-high stockings, polka-dotted fingerless gloves, and topped it all off with a chic black-and-white fascinator.

Underneath her form-fitting mini dress, a bright white thong and a matching bralette subtly peeked through, completing the bold and innovative look.

In keeping of the theme of the Sephora x MAC event, the performer invited fans to kiss her entire body, leaving red-hot lip marks all over her look.

As for her own glam for the outing, Doja opted for turquoise winged eye makeup, bold blush and (of course) scarlet lipstick.

The Grammy winner’s no stranger to latex fashion, having selected a glossy nude Saint Laurent getup for this year’s Met Gala.

In January, Doja graced the cover of MAC’s relaunched MACzine, as exclusively revealed by Page Six Style.

She fronted the glossy with a lipstick “cigarette,” sharply angled brows and long, lush lashes.

Famous for her fashion and beauty stunts, the “Paint the Town Red” hitmaker also made headlines for snacking on her tube of lipstick (which was actually a highly realistic piece of chocolate) on the VMAs 2025 red carpet.

Active Search Initiated Following Fatal Shooting of College Student Pursuing Alleged Phone Thieves

A search is actively ongoing following the fatal shooting of a Pennsylvania State University student in what appears to be an attempted robbery. The incident occurred on Saturday.

According to the Philadelphia Police Department, 22-year-old Billy Schmidt was shot and killed at approximately 1:30 a.m. while just a few blocks from his Philadelphia residence. Officers responding to the scene discovered him lying on the street with a gunshot wound to his chest.

Billy was rushed to a nearby hospital where medical staff pronounced him dead at 1:47 a.m.

In an interview with ABC7, his father, Bill Schmidt, shared that his son had been returning home after watching the NBA Finals at a bar with friends.

Security video given to police shows Schmidt asking for his phone back before several shots were heard that killed the college student. It shows a man throwing a cellphone before another individual can be seen running around a corner being chased by Billy Schmidt, who was then shot in the chest.

Billy Schmidt was a senior at Pennsylvania State University, where he was set to graduate in December.

“He was a really good person who cared about everybody and never hurt or bothered a soul, never bothered anyone and for him to get shot like that is a travesty,” Bill Schmidt said. “I’m shocked when they stole his phone that he chased them.”

Police have not made an arrest in connection to the college student’s killing. One neighbor urged anyone with information to help police.

“I want justice, I want the kid that shot Billy to be found,” a neighbor said. “If anyone’s out there that recognizes anything… they seem young to me. If anyone has any information or recognizes anything about the kids, I would love for them to come forward.”

Chilean Football Star Overcomes Team Challenges, Leads Push for Change

0

IN BRIEF

  • FIFA’s new anti-racism rules could see World Cup matches stopped, suspended or abandoned entirely.
  • Critics question whether FIFA will truly enforce anti-racism rules when major World Cup matches are at stake.

Romina Parraguirre once endured silent moments while her teammates at an Australian football club mocked her accent.

From an early age, Parraguirre defied conventions. Now, sidelined by an ACL injury that has ended her athletic career, the Chilean athlete looks back on her two decades at the pinnacle of women’s soccer.

“I discovered my passion for football when I decided to play with the boys on the street. If my father caught me in the act, so be it. I was having the time of my life,” she recalls.

As a former international goalkeeper for Chile, Parraguirre is now collaborating with FIFA to develop measures against discrimination for the world’s premier sporting event.

As the FIFA World Cup approaches in Canada, the United States, and Mexico, Parraguirre serves as a consultant for FIFA, concentrating on combating racism and discrimination in football. This comes as the organization faces increasing scrutiny over the effectiveness of its latest anti-racism initiatives.

Your trusted source for staying up-to-date with the world around you. Get free daily news updates and analysis, straight to your inbox.

Parraguirre represented Chile internationally before finishing her career in Australia, where she says her experience as a migrant footballer was mixed.

While many teammates and coaches supported her as a new, and extremely talented teammate, she also experienced ridicule over her limited English.

“There was a girl who made fun of my pronunciation,” Parraguirre recalled.

At first, she said she stayed quiet.

“I preferred to stay silent. I got frustrated and preferred not to communicate,” she said.

Parraguirre said the isolation affected her confidence, particularly without family support nearby and while adapting to a new culture.

Eventually, she confronted the teammate directly.

“I asked her if she spoke another language. I speak three. You don’t know how hard it is to be here without your family,” she said.

The teasing stopped immediately.

Reflecting a broader issue in sport

According to Sport Integrity Australia, around 40 per cent of athletes do not report racism, harassment or discrimination.

University of Sydney academic Dr Steve Georgakis told SBS News that the discrimination remained deeply linked to sport and often persisted because athletes feared speaking out.

“Successful organisations need an inclusive environment,” he said.

Parraguirre now channels that experience into anti-racism advocacy through her work with FIFA.

“We’re trying to raise our voices so that clubs, federations and football associations consider this problem as something important … Not only for the players or the sport, but also for the audience,” she said.

What are FIFA’s new anti-racism rules?

FIFA has intensified its anti-racism messaging ahead of the World Cup following several high-profile incidents involving racist and discriminatory abuse.

At the organisation’s 2024 Congress in Bangkok, FIFA President Gianni Infantino declared football could no longer tolerate racism in stadiums or on the pitch.

“We cannot accept any more of what is happening in the stadiums,” he said.

The governing body has since expanded its anti-racism framework, including tougher disciplinary measures and new rules around player conduct.

Central to the policy is FIFA’s three-step procedure, which allows referees to stop, suspend or abandon a match entirely, if racist abuse persists.

Players or officials can trigger the protocol by crossing their arms in an ‘X’ gesture to alert referees to discriminatory abuse.

If abuse from supporters continues after warnings are issued, teams can be sent to the dressing rooms before officials decide whether play can resume.

In the most severe cases, matches can be abandoned altogether.

FIFA has also introduced a new rule allowing referees to issue red cards to players who cover their mouths during confrontations with opponents, a move introduced after allegations involving Vinícius Júnior earlier this year.

The change followed a Champions League clash between Real Madrid and Benfica in which Benfica player Gianluca Prestianni was accused of racially abusing Vinícius while covering his mouth.

Prestianni denied the allegation.

“If you do not have something to hide, you don’t hide your mouth when you say something,” Infantino later Sky UK .

FIFA has also confirmed that teams who walk off the field in protest at refereeing decisions may forfeit matches under separate new tournament rules.

The organisation says the measures are designed to strengthen accountability and empower players to report abuse.

But critics have argued the framework still prioritises completing matches over protecting players.

Francis Awaritefe, chair of Australia’s Professional Footballers Australia, has previously spoken out against FIFA’s approach to racism protocols, arguing players should not be expected to tolerate repeated abuse before action is taken.

“A football match is not more important than someone’s human dignity,” he said.

Awaritefe has also been vocal in questioning whether FIFA would genuinely abandon World Cup matches if racist abuse escalated during major fixtures.

“There aren’t many workplaces where someone can be racially abused and the response is: ‘We’ll give the crowd another couple of chances,” Awaritefe previously said.

“A football match is not more important than someone’s human dignity.”

Awaritefe has also questioned whether FIFA would genuinely abandon World Cup matches if racist abuse escalated during major fixtures.

Sport sociologist Ramón Spaaij has similarly raised concerns about how anti-racism policies are enforced in practice.

Speaking previously about football’s commercial pressures, Spaaij said there was often “a lot of talk about zero tolerance policies”, but in practice racism could be “downplayed because the game must go on”.

But FIFA has previously been willing to impose dramatic sanctions.

In 2021, Mexico played a World Cup qualifier against Jamaica in an empty Estadio Azteca after repeated homophobic chanting by supporters.

Now, with the World Cup approaching and Mexico’s Azteca Stadium set to host the tournament opener, attention is turning to whether FIFA will fully enforce its latest anti-racism measures when the stakes are highest.

For Parraguirre, the issue goes beyond disciplinary codes or gestures on the pitch.

It is about ensuring players never feel forced into silence.

“We are trying to raise our voices,” she said.

The World Cup may now become FIFA’s biggest test yet of whether it is prepared to do the same.
