GAINESVILLE, Fla. – George Thomas White, 47, was arrested after police said he exposed himself behind a Midtown business.
According to the Gainesville Police Department, an officer was called to the 800 block of SW 2nd Avenue at about 12:56 p.m. on September 27. An employee told police she discovered White lying near the business’s dumpster while taking out the trash and saw that his genitals were exposed. She also reported that he was openly masturbating.
The officer said White appeared to be the only person in the area. Clothing and a sleeping bag were reportedly located nearby.
After being read his Miranda rights, White allegedly told police he had been at the location throughout the day. He reportedly acknowledged masturbating and watching pornography.

White’s address is listed as the former St. Francis House. He faces a charge of indecent exposure of sexual organs, and Judge George Wright set bail at $5,000. A complete criminal history was unavailable because records involving sexual offenses are not posted, although White has no other local arrests listed.

DHS Watchdog: 40% of Afghan Evacuee Files Had Vetting Errors
A Department of Homeland Security (DHS) inspector general’s report released Monday found vetting problems in 40% of a sample of asylum applications filed by Afghans who came to the United States after the Biden administration’s troubled 2021 withdrawal from Afghanistan.
The review examined 678 applications submitted by Afghans resettled through Operation Allies Welcome (OAW). Investigators identified 303 undisclosed aliases, 23 missing security checks and more than 150 additional documentation problems.
According to the report, the frequency and nature of the mistakes indicate that US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) may have missed chances to connect names listed by applicants with potentially damaging information. That could undermine the accuracy of alien registration files, which are later used to guide immigration decisions and enforcement actions.
Two of the cases involved missing aliases or incomplete records for people who may have been barred from entering the United States under terrorism-related inadmissibility provisions.
In one case, supporting documents for the potentially inadmissible Afghan were missing, meaning a second-level authority never approved the analysis. In the other, the documents were present and had been signed by senior officials, but the form’s box indicating approval or rejection of the analysis was left blank.
The inspector general said the consequences of such errors can differ widely. Some may cause little more than an administrative inconvenience because the same information is available elsewhere, while others could pose national security concerns if USCIS supervisors fail to review the files.

The investigation began after USCIS employees raised concerns that a 2023 settlement in Ahmed v. DHS required asylum claims to be processed more quickly than the agency believed was necessary for thorough applicant vetting.
However, the report said investigators found no statistically significant rise in the error rate following the September 2023 DHS settlement agreement.
Republicans have repeatedly criticized Operation Allies Welcome, the Biden-era program that brought more than 70,000 Afghans to the United States after the chaotic 2021 troop withdrawal.
The Post reported last November that more than 5,000 Afghans admitted through OAW had been flagged over national security concerns.
That month, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, an Afghan national resettled in the United States through the program, allegedly opened fire on two National Guard soldiers near the White House. One soldier was killed and the other suffered severe injuries.
Joseph Edlow, who leads USCIS, accepted all five recommendations issued by the DHS inspector general. He argued, however, that the report did not fully reflect the broader screening, vetting and security safeguards already in place, which he said help limit the effects of administrative mistakes.
In a response included with the report, Edlow wrote that the USCIS Refugee, Asylum and International Operations Directorate’s Asylum Division uses screening, vetting and security-check procedures that are established and comprehensive.
Dennis Haskins, ‘Saved by the Bell’ Principal, Dies at 75
LOS ANGELES — Dennis Haskins, the actor beloved for portraying Principal Richard Belding on the classic sitcom “Saved By The Bell,” has died at age 75, his agent confirmed to ABC News.
“It’s a tragic loss,” agent Jay Schachter said. “Everyone loved Mr. Belding, and those of us who knew Dennis loved him even more. He was a wonderful person who truly adored his fans. No matter where he was, he always made time for them.”
A cause of death has not been announced.
Haskins first brought Principal Belding to life in the 1989 Disney Channel series “Good Morning, Miss Bliss.” The character later carried over when the show was reworked as NBC’s “Saved By The Bell.”
He remained with “Saved By The Bell” throughout its original four-season run from 1989 to 1993. Haskins then reprised the role on “Saved by the Bell: The New Class,” which aired for seven seasons between 1993 and 2000.

At Least 40 Rescued, 2 Dead After Boat Capsizes During Machete Fight Near Puerto Rico
At least 40 people were pulled from open waters by the U.S. Coast Guard after a boat capsized several miles from Mona Island, a small uninhabited island west of Puerto Rico. Two people died following a fight aboard the vessel that involved a machete, officials said Monday.
Survivors estimated that roughly 60 people had been traveling on the boat, according to the Coast Guard.
The makeshift vessel overturned late Sunday after a violent confrontation left several people seriously wounded by a machete. Those aboard were forced into the water, many without life jackets, the Coast Guard said.
The survivors endured more than 12 hours in the water before a person aboard a passing boat spotted them near Mona Island at about noon Monday.

The passerby alerted authorities and helped bring four people to safety immediately, officials said.
Search-and-rescue operations continued into Monday evening.
The Coast Guard said it had not yet determined the nationalities or places of origin of those aboard the capsized boat.
People escaping poverty and violence have for years crossed the Mona Passage from Hispaniola—the island shared by Haiti and the Dominican Republic—to Puerto Rico and neighboring islands.

Many make the journey in improvised boats that are poorly equipped to withstand the passage’s dangerous waters.
Monday’s disaster was the latest in a series of deadly migrant voyages in the region.
In June 2022, 11 Haitian women and girls were buried in Puerto Rico after an overcrowded boat carrying them overturned in open waters northwest of the U.S. territory.

Authorities in the Turks and Caicos Islands also detained 240 Haitian migrants near the territory in June.

Armed groups control an estimated 70% of Port-au-Prince, along with parts of Haiti’s central region and other areas of the country.

Keir Starmer Could Signal End of State Pension ‘Triple Lock’ in Labour Speech
Andy Burnham could use his first Labour conference speech as leader to hint at the future of the state pension “triple lock”.
In a deeply personal address to activists in Liverpool, the Prime Minister is expected to expand on plans for an NHS-style social care system, which has been estimated to cost £18billion a year.
Just two months after defeating Keir Starmer, Mr Burnham will set out a Left-wing programme of nationalisation aimed at giving the country “hope again”.
However, the Labour leader is already facing criticism as he appears ready to put the pension guarantee at risk in an effort to demonstrate how his ambitious spending plans could be funded.
The triple lock ensures state pension payments rise by whichever is highest among inflation, average earnings growth or 2.5 per cent. The policy was introduced by the Coalition Government.
Unite, one of Labour’s biggest union donors, has warned that “picking the pocket of pensioners” would amount to “electoral suicide”.
Any move against the guarantee would be especially contentious because the Prime Minister has repeatedly rejected proposals to cut benefits such as PIP, arguing instead that reforms should focus on helping more people into work.

Speaking on broadcast programmes before the address, Labour Deputy Leader Lucy Powell said Mr Burnham was willing to confront difficult issues.
Cabinet ministers have declined to guarantee the triple lock beyond the current Parliament, while maintaining that Labour’s commitment to retain it until the next election remains in place.
During a series of broadcast interviews ahead of the speech, Labour Deputy Leader Lucy Powell said only that Mr Burnham was prepared to tackle challenging questions.
His conference address comes against a worsening economic backdrop, with the crisis in the Middle East sending shockwaves through energy markets.
As he works on the Government’s finances ahead of the October 28 Budget, Chancellor John Healey told delegates yesterday that Labour could not repeat the spending surge associated with Tony Blair’s government after 1997.
Persistent inflation, weaker growth and rising debt-servicing costs have steadily reduced Mr Healey’s “headroom” under the Government’s fiscal rules. That leaves ministers facing the prospect of tax increases or spending reductions, the latter of which would meet fierce opposition from Labour MPs.
Reflecting the Liverpool conference slogan “Hope again”, Mr Burnham will tell party members that “hope comes from honesty and from saying the things politicians usually avoid”.
He is also expected to repeat his criticism of Thatcher and “neoliberalism”, blaming the country’s current difficulties on what he calls the “flawed thinking of the last 40 years”.
The Labour leader will announce plans for a publicly owned “Great British Grid”, intended to bring UK energy costs closer to those in European countries over the next decade.
Mr Burnham will say: “We can’t carry on as we are. Politics-as-usual has taken Britain backwards.
“More of the same isn’t good enough and isn’t going to get us where we need to be.”

He will pledge to wrest power from “vested interests” and give the public sector “more control of the basics so that we can make it more functional again”.
Renationalisation of the railways is already under way, but the PM will signal he wants further government control of other sectors, including water, energy and housing.
He will make clear the Government is ready to put Thames Water in a ‘special administration scheme’ if a bailout plan fails, effectively taking public ownership of the debt-laden giant.
Labour sources said full-scale nationalisation of the major utilities is unlikely at this stage because of the enormous cost.
But ministers are exploring other ways to intervene in the market to give the Government greater control, including appointing elected mayors to lead regional oversight boards.
Mr Burnham has said social care reforms will not be in place until after the next election, with Whitehall troubleshooter Baroness Casey carrying out a review.
The prospect of downgrading the triple lock sparked an immediate backlash from Labour’s allies.
Unite general secretary Sharon Graham told BBC Radio 4’s Today programme: ‘Instead of going and trying to pick the pocket of pensioners, we need to move over to the other side of the equation and look at things like wealth taxes, way before we try to stop something like the triple lock…’
The Unite general secretary added: ‘When we met with Andy this week, it certainly wasn’t mentioned.
‘But I do think that it’s important that Labour make sure that working-class people know that they’re on their side, and this would be a direction of travel that would say the opposite to that.’
Asked whether the lock should be reformed to fund social care, Ms Graham said: ‘What I understood the National Care Service to be was a universal benefit: everybody paid in and everybody gets out, and that is what actually the principle of that is.
‘Going to a group of people who are getting around £12,500 a year in order to pay for it to take away their security is wrong. I think it’s morally wrong.’
Ms Powell, who is also the Education Secretary, said the party was committed to the triple lock until the next election – but would not go any further.
She told Sky News: ‘We are committed to the triple lock. It’s in our manifesto. The triple lock has really delivered for pensioners, in this country, over the course of this Parliament.

‘I think we’re going to see (the) state pension rising by about £2,000-a-year significantly, and that’s really important, so pensioners watching your show today can know that their income is secure and will continue to rise over the course of this Parliament.
‘I don’t know what Andy’s going to say about that today, but I know that what he’s talking about is this big conversation about solving these big problems, but being really honest with people that they come at a cost.
‘They do come at a cost. You can’t just solve the social care crisis without having the big conversations about how you’re going to do this.’

Along with her sister Zelda, Sabrina’s kookier aunt Hilda took Sabrina in after her parents – a witch father and mortal mother – jetted off to different spots around the globe for work.
Hilda offered comic relief and hijinks on the show for several years, while Caroline Rhea, 62, worked side gigs as a regular on Hollywood Squares and The Rosie O’Donnell Show.
After the show ended, she went on to host a year of her own talk show, The Caroline Rhea Show, host a season of The Biggest Loser, and perform several comedy stand-up specials.

In a 2015 Reddit interview, the actress said she still thinks of Melissa (Sabrina) and Caroline (Hilda) as ‘family’, adding: ‘Melissa Joan Hart was never a diva. She is a hard-working super smart woman and I adore her. She has a great family and knows what is important in life. She is a treasure.’
As well as parts on Under the Dome and Lost, Beth has taken on stage roles and has written A Cup of Joe, Wonderland and Literatti with Dennis Bailey.

In the show’s pilot, Sabrina found out that her aunts’ pet cat is not really a cat at all, but a 500-year-old witch named Salem Saberhagen who was sentenced to spend 100 years in feline form as punishment for trying to take over the world.
When the show began, he was 25 years into his century-long sentence – meaning today, the grumpy fuzzball would still have 55 years coughing up hairballs to go.

Abused Death Row Inmate Draws Parallels to Lindsay Clancy
Christa Pike, who is scheduled to be executed Wednesday for a murder committed when she was a teenager, says she sees similarities between her case and that of Lindsay Clancy.
Pike was 18 when she lured fellow Job Corps student Colleen Slemmer to a secluded part of the University of Tennessee campus on January 12, 1995. There, Slemmer endured a brutal assault that ended with her death from severe head injuries.
Pike was convicted the following year, making her the youngest woman in the United States to receive a death sentence. If carried out, her execution would make her the first woman put to death in Tennessee in more than two centuries.
As she awaits execution, Pike told The Times that she feels a “kinship” with Clancy, whose mental health became a central issue after a Massachusetts judge declared a mistrial earlier this month.
Clancy was facing life in prison after being accused of killing her children—five-year-old Cora, three-year-old Dawson and eight-month-old Callan. She did not dispute that she strangled them, but argued that she should be found not guilty by reason of insanity.
“We are both females who got into trouble because of uniquely female issues,” Pike told The Times.
“One thing that is different, however, is that awareness of women’s issues has changed a lot since I was put on trial.”
Pike said she was “pleased” Clancy was “getting the help she needs,” adding that many women—including herself—do not receive adequate support.

Asked whether jurors might have responded more sympathetically to her case if she had been tried today, Pike said she believed they would have, pointing to advances in scientific understanding of adolescent brain development.
She also claimed that she received a harsher punishment because her accomplice in Slemmer’s killing was Black.
“While racism has not gone away, it has diminished some,” Pike said. “I think I was more harshly judged because of my relationship with Tadaryl.”
Pike had become convinced that Slemmer was trying to take her 17-year-old boyfriend, Tadaryl Shipp. The two Job Corps students shared an interest in satanic imagery, although Slemmer’s friends denied that a romantic rivalry existed.
Pike and another student, Shadolla Peterson, devised a plan to draw Slemmer away from the school. They told her they wanted to resolve their differences and offered to share marijuana with her in an isolated area near the University of Tennessee campus.
Slemmer went with Pike, Shipp and Peterson that evening. Once the group reached the woods, they attacked her.
Prosecutors said the assault continued for at least 30 minutes, with Slemmer being beaten, kicked and cut as she pleaded for the attack to stop and repeatedly attempted to flee.
During the beating, Shipp carved a pentagram into Slemmer’s chest while she was still alive, according to prosecutors.
Slemmer eventually died after Pike struck her in the head multiple times with a piece of asphalt.

Pike later returned to the Job Corps center with a fragment of Slemmer’s skull, which she showed to other students while describing what had happened.
Slemmer was found dead the next morning, naked from the waist up, her blood-soaked clothes hanging on branches above her.

Pike was convicted of premeditated first-degree murder and conspiracy in March 1996.
At sentencing, jurors found that Colleen’s murder was especially cruel and involved torture or serious physical abuse beyond what was necessary to kill her. They sentenced Pike to death.
Pike’s attorneys asked Tennessee Governor Bill Lee to grant her clemency and commute her sentence to life without parole, citing her history of childhood sexual abuse and mental illness – which were not brought up during her initial trial as mitigating factors.
According to the petition, Pike was sexually abused by her grandmother’s boyfriend from the ages of two to five. At 11, she was raped by a 37-year-old neighbor who received only a suspended sentence and continued living nearby.
Then, at 17 – almost exactly a year before Colleen’s murder – Pike reported being dragged into the woods and raped by a stranger while walking to a store. A rape kit was performed, but the attacker was never identified.
Her attorneys also claim she endured physical abuse at home, attempted suicide several times as a child, and was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and PTSD after reaching death row.

By not including those diagnoses at her trial, Pike’s attorneys argue jurors were deprived of crucial context about the teenager they were sentencing.
‘Christa was broken, not evil,’ her attorneys argued in the petition. ‘She was broken by the people and places that were meant to be safe and supportive.
‘She was broken by a mental health system, juvenile system, and a criminal justice system that ignored, misdiagnosed, and mistreated her at every turn.’
Governor Lee denied clemency for Pike on Monday, keeping her on track to be executed.
At the same time, Pike’s attorneys have asked for an all-female team to carry out her lethal injection, arguing that being restrained and handled by men could retraumatize her because of past sexual abuse.
If that request is denied, she has asked to be hanged instead.
Clancy, 36, is scheduled to return to Plymouth County Superior Court on Tuesday for the first time since her trial ended

Meanwhile, Clancy, 36, is scheduled to return to Plymouth County Superior Court on Tuesday for the first time since her trial ended for a hearing that will shape the future of her case.
The status hearing could very well set the wheels in motion for a second trial for the killings of her three children – or it could end her criminal case once and for all.
Defense attorney Kevin Reddington will argue several motions to strike down the state’s ability to retry the mom-of-three, including one calling for a finding of not guilty due to lack of criminal responsibility and one seeking to dismiss all charges citing double jeopardy rules.
The defense is also fighting for information about the one holdout juror, including his cell phone records, surveillance footage from the courthouse and access to his juror questionnaire.
Prosecutors could also reveal their own plans of whether they will try Clancy a second time and, if yes, on the same or lesser charges.
If Judge William Sullivan sides with the defense to dismiss the case or find her not guilty, Clancy’s case could be tossed entirely.
If he denies them, and the state decides to retry the case, a second trial date could be set.
