Guy Lafleur was born on September 20, 1951. He is also known as “The Flower” and “Le Demon Blond,” fans are thinking his smoking habit caused his lung cancer and eventually led to his passing away.

Guy Lafleur had been undergoing cancer therapy since September of 2022, when a malignant white spot on his lungs was discovered by accident, according to sportsnet.ca.

He had another surgery two months later to remove both the upper lobe of his lung and lymph nodes. In October 2020, cancer reappeared, prompting Lafleur to restart his treatment.

The athlete made his NHL debut with the Canadiens in 1971, filling the vacuum left by the legendary Jean Beliveau’s departure. During the Canadiens’ historic run in the 1970s, he became a regular, collecting five Stanley Cups and amassing a dazzling trophy case of individual honors. 

Guy Lafleur, a five-time Stanley Cup champion for the Montreal Canadiens and a hockey hero in Quebec well before his NHL career, has died. In his later years, he struggled with health concerns.

He had quadruple bypass heart surgery in September 2019, followed by lung surgery two months later. Then, in October of 2020, he was diagnosed with lung cancer again.

“We are profoundly grieved to learn of Guy Lafleur’s death. His death has left all members of the Canadiens organization distraught,” in a statement, Canadiens President Geoff Molson remarked. The cause of his death might be cancer.
