Will There Be a Season 2 of Netflix’s A Different World Reboot? Everything We Know

0

Netflix viewers have quickly embraced the return of A Different World, making the series one of the streamer’s biggest current hits.

The new show, which continues the story of NBC’s 1987 sitcom A Different World, has climbed to No. 1 on Netflix’s Top 10 TV Shows in the U.S. The sequel centers on Deborah (Maleah Joi Moon), the youngest daughter of Whitley (Jasmine Guy) and Dwayne (Kadeem Hardison), as she begins building her own future at Hillman College.

Guy and Hardison are joined by several familiar faces from the original cast, including Cree Summer, Darryl M. Bell, Debbie Allen, Jada Pinkett Smith, Joe Morton, and Dawnn Lewis.

In his review for DECIDER, contributor Joel Keller gave the Netflix revival a recommendation, praising its potential to explore life at an HBCU in 2026. He noted that longtime fans may enjoy reconnecting with the Hillman alumni and discovering what they have been doing 33 years after the original series concluded, while also arguing that the story is strongest when it focuses on today’s students.

For viewers who have already finished all 10 episodes of Netflix’s A Different World and are asking whether the show will return, here is the latest update on Season 2.

Will There Be A Season 2 of A Different World?

Netflix has not yet officially renewed A Different World for a second season. Still, the series has reason for optimism: it premiered last Thursday, Sept. 24, and quickly landed in Netflix’s Top 10. That early performance could improve its chances of receiving a Season 2 order. DECIDER will update this story as soon as new details emerge.

How To Stream A Different World:

All 10 episodes of Season 1 of A Different World are now available to stream on Netflix.

Netflix has three membership options, beginning with the Standard plan with ads at $7.99 per month. The top tier costs $24.99 monthly and includes unlimited ad-free streaming in up to 4K UHD quality.

Jenna Bush Hager Reveals How She Discovered Her Father’s Secret Fiancée

0

Jenna Bush Hager has recalled the emotional childhood moment when she learned that her father, former President George W. Bush, had once been engaged to another woman.

Years before marrying former first lady Laura Bush, George was engaged to his college sweetheart, Cathryn Lee Wolfman.

The couple began dating while George attended Yale and Cathryn studied at Rice University. He proposed in 1967, according to an engagement announcement published in the Houston Chronicle.

The wedding never took place, and the couple eventually parted ways. George went on to marry Laura in November 1977, and they welcomed twin daughters, Barbara and Jenna, four years later, in November 1981.

Jenna, now 44, recently described the shock of discovering that her father had been engaged before he met her mother.

Appearing on Today last week, Jenna said: “My dad actually called off a wedding. My dad was engaged, and he called off his wedding. They were really young.”

George had never told her about the relationship, she said. Jenna learned about it only after finding a “wedding announcement” among his personal keepsakes.

The discovery came after Jenna received a poor grade on a math test during third grade.

After George scolded her over the result, Jenna said she responded that he probably had not always earned perfect grades when he was young either.

He then brought out a “memory box” containing his old report cards. Inside, Jenna noticed the unexpected wedding announcement.

“He took out his memory box that my grandmother had made him to show a report card, and I saw a wedding announcement to somebody that wasn’t my mom,” Jenna recalled.

“I started crying and made it about myself, as a third-grader does.”

She added: “I didn’t realize in that third-grade sort of melodramatic [way], good thing he called it off or we wouldn’t have been here.”

Jenna also praised her father for having the courage to leave a relationship that was not right for him.

“You really do have to listen to yourself,” she said.

Few details are publicly known about George’s first serious relationship. However, a 1967 announcement in the Houston Chronicle stated: “George Walker Bush, son of Congressman-elect and Mrs. George H.W. Bush of Houston and Washington, will take pretty Cathryn Lee Wolfman as his bride.”

The two never walked down the aisle and ultimately went their separate ways, with Bush going on to wed Laura in November 1977; they welcomed their twin daughters, Barbara and Jenna, four years later in November 1981

Jenna said her father had never mentioned his college romance, which she discovered in third grade after finding a wedding announcement among his keepsakes

When asked about it by the Houston Press in 1999, a Bush spokesperson confirmed: ‘Yes, Governor Bush, while he was in college, was very briefly engaged to a very fine person he thinks the world of. Ultimately, they went their separate ways.’

They added that the pair do not keep in touch.

A 2000 Vanity Fair profile on George described Cathryn as a ‘fun-loving cheerleader,’ who was also a ‘dean’s-list student’ and ‘totally apolitical.’

The publication, which interviewed many of George’s friends, reported that the relationship simply ‘fizzled out’ due to their busy schedules, and that Wolfman went on to work with the CIA after college.

Trump Floats Turning White House Press Room Into an Indoor Pool

0

WASHINGTON — The White House press pool could soon take on a very different meaning.

President Trump on Sunday needled the news media by suggesting that the James S. Brady Press Briefing Room could be turned back into an indoor swimming pool — its original purpose under former President Franklin D. Roosevelt — as his conflict with the press continues.

On Truth Social, Trump shared before-and-after images showing the White House briefing room transformed into an elaborate swimming pool decorated with gold accents.

The post came as Trump seeks to block reporters from CNN, MS Now and Politico from entering the White House grounds.

US District Judge Timothy Kelly ordered the White House on Thursday to restore access for journalists from the three outlets for at least two weeks while the legal dispute proceeds.

Trump’s decision also prompted the five major television news organizations in the White House press pool — ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News and NBC — to temporarily suspend their participation. The outlets rotate expanded access to the president, and their move contributed to complications in obtaining video of Trump earlier last week.

Roosevelt had the indoor pool constructed in 1933 while he was living with polio. Several presidents who followed him, including Harry Truman, John F. Kennedy and Lyndon Johnson, were known to use it regularly.

Former President Richard Nixon later ordered flooring installed over the pool to create a briefing room. The space was eventually named for James Brady, the White House press secretary under Ronald Reagan who was seriously wounded during John Hinckley Jr.’s assassination attempt against the president.

The original pool structure remains beneath the briefing room. The White House also has an outdoor swimming pool, built by former President Gerald Ford.

Trump has pursued a series of renovations during his second term, revamping areas including the Palm Room, the colonnade and the North Portico. He has also repeatedly promoted his proposed $400 million ballroom and recently unveiled a new granite helipad on the South Lawn.

The billionaire real-estate developer has also pursued projects around Washington, DC, including restoring fountains, coating statues near the Lincoln Memorial in 23K gold and renovating the Reflecting Pool.

One project, however, has not appeared to interest him: renovating the White House press briefing room.

“I don’t want to do that,” Trump told a reporter last year when asked about renovating the briefing room.

“I don’t want you to be comfortable,” he added with a quip. “No, I don’t want to make life comfortable.”

Jersey Shore Star Pauly D Engaged to Nikki Hall After Proposing to MTV Co-Star

Jersey Shore star Pauly D and his longtime girlfriend, Nikki Hall, are engaged.

After six years together, the 46-year-old MTV personality proposed to the 34-year-old influencer during his DJ set at Omnia Dayclub in Las Vegas. Video captured the emotional moment Hall said “yes.”

During the performance, Pauly invited Hall onto the stage before getting down on one knee. The surprise proposal sent the crowd into a frenzy of cheers and screams.

Clearly stunned, Hall covered her face with both hands before accepting the proposal as Bruno Mars’ “Marry You” played over the speakers.

Pauly then presented Hall with a large diamond engagement ring, which she proudly showed off to her Instagram followers.

“We’ve spent these years choosing each other, growing together, building a life we love, and never rushing a chapter just because the world was ready to read it,” the couple wrote in a joint Instagram post.

“No pressure. No timeline. Just ours — and God’s. & as always, His timing was perfect.”

“The easiest YES I’ve ever said @djpaulyd.”

Pauly celebrated the news in the comments, writing: “She said yesssssss!!!!!”

Pauly D first met Hall, an influencer, on the inaugural season of Double Shot at Love with DJ Pauly D & Vinny. The 2019 dating show featured Hall competing against 19 other women for the DJ’s heart.

Although they briefly split, the couple later reunited, and Hall joined Pauly on the fourth season of Jersey Shore: Family Vacation.

To mark their one-year anniversary, Pauly gave Hall the code to his home’s ring camera, describing the gesture as a “huge step” in their relationship.

“This last year with Nikki, it’s meant the world to me,” he said in a confessional.

“I realized that she was the one and sometimes you just can’t look for it, it’s supposed to happen and that’s what happened.”

“Giving a girl a ring code is a huge step in a relationship,” he explained. “Now she sees the world how I see it — through my doorbell.”

‘So it’s been great. It’s been a good time, and we’re just taking it day by day. We’re happy.’

Even Snooki has noticed the impact Hall has had on Pauly, telling Life & Style last year that the influencer has been a positive influence on her castmate.

‘I like when Nikki’s around, Pauly’s more himself,’ Snooki told Life & Style last year. ‘And he just seems happy. Like genuinely happy.’

‘We love NIkki,’ she added.  ‘Nikki’s great.’

19 Kids and Counting’s Johannah Duggar Marries David Swanson

The Duggar family has grown once again after Johannah Duggar and David Swanson exchanged wedding vows.

Us exclusively confirmed that the couple married on September 10, according to county records.

At 20, Johannah is the 16th child and sixth daughter of Jim Bob Duggar and Michelle Duggar, who became household names through TLC’s 19 Kids and Counting. Johannah was also the second of the couple’s children to be born on camera.

As several of her siblings have done, Johannah kept her courtship largely out of the public eye before marrying quietly. News of the wedding plans emerged in early September, when she filed for a marriage license in Arkansas. The license gave the couple 60 days to legally marry.

Birthday Trip Turns Deadly After Bartender Shoves Woman Down Stairs

A South Carolina bartender allegedly shoved a vacationing woman down a staircase, sending her headfirst onto a concrete slab and ultimately causing her death.

Mary Hunt, 68, faces a voluntary manslaughter charge in connection with the death of 62-year-old Joyce Tomlinson, a Minnesota resident, according to court records.

The incident happened on Oct. 3, 2025, at Coot’s Bar & Grill in Edisto Beach, according to a probable cause affidavit obtained by local CBS affiliate WCSC.

Tomlinson was visiting the area with Ruth Peterson, a longtime friend of 50 years who lives locally. The two women were celebrating their 62nd birthdays, Peterson told WCSC.

Just after 10 p.m., they decided to leave for the night. Peterson went outside to retrieve the car while Tomlinson stayed behind to settle their tab.

Peterson said she turned around to check on her friend and saw Tomlinson begin walking down the stairs. She then claimed Hunt suddenly ran toward Tomlinson and pushed her forcefully in the back with both hands.

Tomlinson reportedly went over the stairs without striking any of them before landing on a concrete slab, where her head hit the surface.

Peterson rushed to her friend and could not find a pulse. She told the station that Tomlinson was bleeding from her ears and mouth, making it clear that she had suffered a severe head injury.

A witness allegedly told police that Tomlinson and Hunt had been arguing before Hunt grabbed Tomlinson by the neck and pushed her down the stairs.

Hunt offered a different account, blaming Tomlinson and claiming the woman was intoxicated and belligerent before falling down the stairs by herself.

Peterson rejected that characterization, describing Tomlinson as “meek” and saying she was not confrontational.

Tomlinson was airlifted to a hospital, where she died approximately three weeks later.

“I just can’t believe she’s gone, just like that,” Peterson said.

Hunt was arrested earlier this month and remains jailed at the Colleton County Jail on a $100,000 bond. Her next court appearance had not been listed.

10-Year-Old Boy and Two Women Reportedly Crushed to Death on UK-Bound Mega-Dinghy

0

A 10-year-old boy and two women died after passengers were reportedly crushed inside an overcrowded migrant boat during an attempted English Channel crossing.

The incident happened early today off Wissant, several miles south of Calais, with dozens of other people suffering serious injuries.

Francois-Xavier Lauch, prefect of Pas-de-Calais, said at a press conference on Monday that the victims did not appear to have drowned. “Apparently there was no drowning; it was likely crushing, which is just as dreadful, especially when we think of the 10-year-old child,” he said.

An emergency responder at the scene confirmed that an investigation had been launched to establish exactly how the three people died.

Authorities had not immediately released the victims’ identities, although they were understood to be Eritrean asylum seekers.

About 105 people were aboard the vessel, which local officials described as a “water taxi”.

The boat was believed to have travelled from an inland waterway with relatively few people on board before collecting passengers from the shoreline at Wissant.

Police officers stand guard at the port of Calais, France, after three migrants, including one child, died while attempting to cross the Channel

Officers maintained a presence at the port of Calais after three migrants, including a child, died during an attempted Channel crossing.

A spokesperson for the prefecture said the sea had been calm and conditions were favourable, adding that “the weather is good”.

At 10.30am local time, six rescue vessels remained in the area around the capsized boat as crews continued searching for survivors.

The prefect described early autumn as a particularly sensitive period, when the weather can remain mild even as the sea begins to turn more hazardous.

“It is during these times that crossings are the most dangerous,” he said.

The Prime Minister’s official spokesperson said the government was “deeply saddened” by the deaths reported in France.

The spokesperson said the tragedy highlighted the risks created by criminal gangs that profit from exploiting vulnerable people.

They added that the Prime Minister remained committed to doing more to stop people from embarking on such dangerous journeys.

The latest incident came just days after three migrants died while scrambling to secure places aboard a boat last week.

French prosecutors have opened criminal investigations into the separate tragedies, with judicial police leading the enquiries.

The deaths bring the number of people who have died while attempting to cross the Channel to Britain this year to at least 24, including women and children.

Many have drowned, while others have been crushed to death in overcrowded boats.

The worst tragedy of this kind came in November 2021, when 27 migrants died after a dinghy sank while heading to the UK – the highest recorded number of deaths from a single incident.

Multiple attempts at crossings have taken place from the coast of northern France over the last few days, as the smugglers take advantage of calm seas and good weather.

According to figures from the Home Office, 781 migrants arrived in Britain last Wednesday – the highest single-day total recorded so far this year.

In total, 18,565 migrants have reached England via this route since January, a figure down by more than 40 per cent compared with the same period in 2025.

The surge in crossings also indicates that people-trafficking gangs are still getting hold of dinghies and outboard motors with ease, despite a crackdown on supply routes.

Last week also saw two ‘uncontrolled landings’ in which migrant boats reached the UK without being intercepted by the authorities.

In further chaotic scenes, a dinghy launched from near Bayeux, in Normandy, made a record 38-hour voyage.

They launched just before 10am on Monday and, on Tuesday afternoon, were picked up by RNLI lifeboats and later transferred to a Border Force cutter.

The 51 migrants aboard were eventually brought ashore to Dover in the early hours of Wednesday.

18-Year-Old Arrested at Home After Allegedly Killing His Mother

0

This was the moment 18-year-old Tristan Roberts remained eerily calm while being arrested for murdering his mother, just hours after dog walkers discovered her body hidden in undergrowth.

Roberts, from Prestatyn in North Wales, was handcuffed outside his home after Angela Shellis, 45, was found dead at Morfa Nature Park.

The teenager, who was described as hating women and being obsessed with violence, beat his teaching assistant mother to death in a planned hammer attack in October last year.

He held Ms Shellis captive in her bedroom and recorded her four-hour ordeal before luring her into isolated woodland, claiming he was giving her the opportunity to seek help.

Instead, Roberts inflicted the fatal injuries and abandoned her body in the nature reserve. He then returned home at around 6.30am, where North Wales Police later arrested him.

Footage of the arrest, which took place at 1.20pm, features in a new episode of the Channel 4 documentary 999: What Happened Next, broadcast on Mondays at 9pm.

The programme examines the evidence that led to Roberts’ arrest and his eventual sentence of at least 22 and a half years at Mold Crown Court in March.

A clip shared with the Daily Mail shows officers ordering Roberts to “turn around and face the wall” before telling him to put down the water bottle he was carrying.

An officer tells Roberts, “Just going to put you in handcuffs for now, okay? Have you got anything on you?” Roberts replies, “No. Am I detained or arrested?”

Another officer then says: “All in order at the moment, Tristan came to the door and he came out, so we’ll wait for other officers to get here before we go into the address.”

Detective Constable Claire Owen, who worked on the case, recalled the arrest in the documentary. She said: “He came out of the house calmly.

“He allowed himself to be handcuffed. Potentially we thought he may have been in shock or very young and didn’t understand what was going on.”

DC Owen said Roberts then asked officers: “Is the body that’s been found my mum?”

She added: “His reaction just seemed very at odds with what you would expect with an 18-year-old who had just been arrested for murder.”

The investigation began at around 8.30am, when a dog walker called 999 to report finding a woman’s body in undergrowth, along with a substantial trail of blood on a gravel path.

Detectives secured the area and deployed drones. They also recovered a crutch, a balaclava and a pair of black gloves, although officers did not yet know the victim’s identity.

Shortly after 1pm, police received another call from a relative of Ms Shellis, who had become concerned about both her and Roberts after he barricaded himself inside the house.

Police were told Ms Shellis had been using a crutch because of a knee injury – and headed to the home, by which time family members had managed to get inside.

During that period officers also obtained CCTV of Roberts and Ms Shellis leaving the home at 3.20am, with Roberts carrying a rucksack and Ms Shellis with a crutch.

Police thought this was significant enough to arrest Roberts, which they did – and detectives then worked to establish his exact movements.

DC Owen said: ‘We had to keep an open mind as to who committed this offence. We strongly suspected Tristan at that point, but equally it’s possible that he’d left Angela in the nature reserve and someone else had done this.’

Detective Superintendent Andy Gibson, the senior investigating officer, added: ‘So at this point in time we’ve got CCTV evidence of Tristan’s movements.

‘But we still need to fill evidential gaps. Was he responsible for the murder of his mother? What was the motivation in terms of that murder?’

Investigators then found footage of the mother and son going over the local railway crossing, heading towards the Morfa site – before Roberts returned to the home.

Soon after that Roberts left the home alone again, following the same direction but this time carrying a bag – believed to have bleach and other fluids to forensically clean the scene.

In the months before the murder, Roberts – who was diagnosed with autism and ADHD – had boasted online about his intention to kill.

He also discussed being motivated by a ‘hatred of women’, writing: ‘I do hate girls, are you OK with that?’

An AI tool advised him that a hammer would be the best murder weapon for ‘a non-experienced killer’, and also provided help on how to clean up after the killing.

Roberts’s older brother Ethan had even texted his mother when she failed to answer the phone on the day of her murder, asking: ‘Just call me for a second – so that I know you are alive.’

Roberts posed as her, replying: ‘I think I am alive [laughing emoji]’.

After killing Ms Shellis, Roberts posted online: ‘I’ve just had the craziest day’, adding that he had ‘beat the s*** out of her’ and ‘smashed her skull in so hard with a sledgehammer’.

On the day of the arrest, a family liaison officer – who cannot be named for police operational reasons – was assigned to support relatives of Ms Shellis.

This officer told the documentary: ‘Angela was a mother, a daughter herself, she was one of three siblings and she was part of what was a really close family who chose to spend a lot of time together.

‘She absolutely worshipped both of her sons and did above and beyond what anyone would do for them. She was known as kind and sweet and a lovely person and they all knew each other very well and they all knew Tristan very well.

‘They all knew the battle Angela was manning to try and make sure that he got the right support and that he took that support – but there was a deterioration in his behaviour.’

Ms Shellis’s sister Sarah Gunther said in court that she wanted her to be remembered as ‘a mum who never gave up, no matter what life threw at her’, adding that the family had ‘fought so hard’ in an attempt to get Roberts ‘the help you needed’.

VMAs Viewers Urge Organizers to Pull the Plug on Award Show

0

MTV Video Music Awards viewers have called on organizers to “pull the plug” after the latest ceremony was beset by delays, absences and lackluster moments.

Hosted by Snoop Dogg, this year’s event took place Sunday night at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California.

Taylor Swift, Lisa Rinna and Adam Lambert were among the stars who appeared on the red carpet ahead of the ceremony.

However, despite performances from major acts including Madonna, Sabrina Carpenter and Shaboozey, the annual awards show appeared to leave many viewers cold.

Former fans turned to X to criticize the “boring” broadcast, with some questioning whether the VMAs still have a future.

“Getting the feeling this might be the last VMAs,” one viewer posted.

Another wrote: “There’s no shame in bowing out gracefully. Gotta read the room.”

“I thought it was just me, this sh** is boring,” a third person said, while another added: “Honestly, the VMAs have felt like a funeral for years.”

Viewers called for the MTV Video Music Awards to be canceled after Sunday night’s troubled ceremony

“We say this every single year. Honestly just pull the plug,” another critic wrote.

Addressing MTV directly, one viewer asked simply: “What was that?”

Problems began before the ceremony had properly got underway.

Fans tuning in for the show’s highly anticipated opening were instead met with an NFL game between the Cowboys and Ravens on the network broadcasting the event.

“Hold tight, the 2026 #VMAs will take off after the football game finishes. Live, coming up on CBS and streaming on Paramount+!” the official VMAs X account announced, frustrating viewers further.

The awards show finally began on the network at approximately 7:50 p.m.—20 minutes behind schedule—after the opening performance had already ended and the first award had been presented.

The event was also missing several major names from the music industry, including Ariana Grande, Zara Larsson, Olivia Rodrigo and Lady Gaga.

Madonna, meanwhile, faced backlash over what viewers described as an “utterly unfocused” comeback performance. Critics accused her of lip-syncing and expressed concern that she appeared out of breath onstage.

A series of music industry titans failed to show up for the proceedings, including Zara Larsson

What needs to change to make awards shows like the VMAs exciting and relevant again?

Later, the 68-year-old star sensationally forgot what award she was on stage to accept from Charli XCX and Troye Sivan.
