Meghan Markle Celebrates Montecito Community as Rumors of Departure Emerge

The buzz around Meghan Markle and Prince Harry potentially relocating back to the U.K. has stirred up quite the conversation among Montecito residents. While whispers suggest some locals are ready to bid them farewell, Meghan remains unfazed. In a recent interview following the announcement of their move, the former “Suits” star showered the area with compliments, proving once again that her charm is unshakable. Now that’s what you call killing ’em with kindness!

ICYMI, several years after moving to Montecito, Meghan and Harry are returning to the U.K. Unsurprisingly, given all the royal family drama over the years, many have had strong opinions on the matter — and equally unsurprisingly, some Montecito residents have told the press they won’t miss the couple. Speaking to Page Six, one not-so-friendly neighbor cracked, “Good riddance!” They went on to complain about the Sussexes, “Always asking for grandiose favors … because of their titles.” Another bone of contention from that particular resident? “The town is exhausted by them, the entitlement and the never ending drama,” they snapped. Uh, yikes. A few days later, another insider also told Page Six that at one point, the Sussexes had struggled to find a housekeeper and claimed that Meghan’s supposedly “snobbish” behavior was the reason why. “It got to the point where people would joke that all the maids in Montecito hated them,” the source claimed.

Despite all that, don’t expect to see Meghan herself trashing the Santa Barbara community. In fact, in an interview with Emily Chang for “The Circuit” after announcing the move, she had nothing but glowing words. “We have such a beautiful, embracing community,” Meghan gushed. The Duchess of Sussex also told Chang that one of the things she loved about Montecito was that they’d had “a really supported, sweet life.” Hey, even the sweetest community can have a cranky neighbor or two!

Some Montecito residents will be sad to see the Sussexes go

Interestingly, even among those who told Page Six they would not particularly miss the Sussexes, there seemed to be no ill will. One resident elaborated, “Montecito is known for being a tranquil, private escape, and the return to a quieter atmosphere might be welcomed.” However, they also acknowledged that opinions vary among the locals.

On the flip side, some in Montecito have expressed gratitude for the Sussexes’ presence. A resident shared with The Guardian their appreciation for how Meghan and Harry embraced and supported local businesses. The sentiment was, “We hope they relished the beauty of our mountains and beaches and the camaraderie within the community. We would gladly welcome them back.” A Santa Barbara County supervisor echoed this in an interview with The New York Times, acknowledging the couple as integral parts of the community.

As the debate continues, it’s essential to mention that the Sussexes’ time in the U.K. might not be permanent. According to their representative, who spoke to The New York Times, “Harry and Meghan have decided to spend an extended period in the U.K. this autumn.” Despite this, they have no plans to sell their Montecito home. An insider explained to People that Montecito remains their primary residence. The move across the pond is not seen as a permanent decision. It’s clear Meghan remains undeterred by any negative voices. For anyone cheering their departure, perhaps a cheeky Mariah Carey “Sorry” GIF would be the perfect response.

Arsenal’s Relentless Pursuit: Julian Alvarez Sparks Transfer Drama Amid Atletico Madrid Training Absence

0

Atletico Madrid’s standout player, Julian Alvarez, has been absent from training for the second consecutive day, reportedly due to illness, as Arsenal’s interest in the forward continues to grow stronger.

While the Argentine striker yearns for an exit from Diego Simeone’s camp, his sights are set primarily on securing a spot with Barcelona.

Despite this, Atletico remains firm in its stance, refusing to even consider the notion of selling him to their fierce Spanish competitors.

As previously highlighted by Daily Mail Sport earlier this year, Arsenal has been meticulously gathering intelligence on Alvarez, analyzing if his talents align with the club’s strategic needs.

The investigation, which delved into his injury history, physical stats, and on-field performance, concluded decisively: Alvarez is a perfect match for Arsenal’s requirements, and manager Arteta is keen on bringing him aboard.

Julian Alvarez has skipped Atletico Madrid training for a second day in a row – with Arsenal still in the hunt for the forward

It makes Alvarez’s absence from training all the more intriguing, with the north London club ready to act should an opening ready to present itself.

Alvarez was mercilessly booed before, during and after Atletico’s La Liga opener against Villarreal.

Simeone clarified after the game that Alvarez was under strict orders to not clap the fans following the clash, as he went straight down the tunnel.

Now the 26-year-old has failed to turn up for training again.

With just days left of the transfer window, Atletico outlined their stance and sent a brutal message to Barcelona.

‘The player is being portrayed as a victim, but the only victim of the Julian case is us,’ they told Spanish outlet Marca.

‘They have harmed us economically and socially. There is a zero per cent chance of selling him to Barca.

‘This situation is not about money, it’s about dignity. There is a campaign with many lies and half-truths that has been created.

‘The only one who pays for this is Atletico.’

Alvarez has scored 49 goals in 107 games for Atletico after joining from Manchester City in 2024 for £81million.

Although reports have suggested Barcelona are Alvarez’s preferred destination, Atletico’s stance could open the door to a move to Arsenal, with the Argentine not ruling out that option after being left stunned by the reaction of his own fans on Sunday.

Atletico have remained steadfast in their position that he is not for sale throughout the summer, with CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin saying last month that the club would not entertain any offers for the striker, even in the region of £170million, although it is believed an offer of around €150m (£130m) from the Gunners could be accepted.

Alvarez has a £428m release clause and Atletico have already rejected a £129m bid from bitter rivals Real Madrid.

Marca adds that Atletico are frustrated with the situation after Alvarez rejected the offer of a bumper new deal in March, while he also refused to adhere to their deadline for a summer move of June 20.

The saga has continually grown since Alvarez’s comments during the World Cup when he expressed his desire to leave the LaLiga outfit in order to ‘fulfil my dream’.

‘I try to be an honest person,’ he said while representing his nation. ‘I spoke with the people at Atletico Madrid, and I think the best thing for everyone is a transfer. I want to fulfil my dream.’

Speaking earlier on Wednesday, Barcelona president Joan Laporta added further fuel to the fire when he insisted the Catalan side were still desperate to bring in Alvarez after reports circulated about him joining Arsenal.

‘This whole situation has created a lot of noise,’ he said. ‘This is not motivated by actions taken by Barca. It is motivated by the fact that Atletico told us they were not selling (Alvarez).

‘However, it looks like, from what we hear now (Atletico reportedly being open to selling Alvarez to Arsenal), they are trying to reach agreements with other clubs.

‘We approach them to see if they want to sell one of their players. When they tell us they don’t sell, we let it go. But in this case, there are special circumstances that have been made aware that Atletico de Madrid want to sell the player to other clubs.

‘With this context, our interest and offer for the player remains up until the end of the window, in case Atletico de Madrid want to sell the player. We are very interested in buying Julian Alvarez.’

During Sunday’s game, the encounter was simmering with tension before Alvarez came on as a second-half substitute as he was booed while warming up, jeered again when his name was announced among the substitutes and met with louder whistles when he came on in the 66th minute.

A section of the crowd also chanted: ‘Let him leave once and for all, let him leave.’

As the full-time whistle came, the hostility grew even more as the 26-year-old headed straight to the changing room while his team-mates saluted the fans, drawing another heavy round of boos.

Discussing the situation in his post-match press conference, Atletico boss Diego Simeone revealed it was actually the club’s decision for Alvarez to not acknowledge supporters.

‘The club staff told me that the club decided Julian should not go over with his team-mates to greet the fans, and that it was not Julian’s decision.

‘The club made the decision to keep him away and have him head to the dressing room. No, I’m not in a position to give advice to the fans. I think I need to focus on my work, which is to give my best on the sporting side for the good of Atletico Madrid.

‘The only thing I know is that if Atletico Madrid wants to win a title, we have to be united. We need forwards, and we need important forwards.

‘For that, of course, we all have to work in that direction to give the team what it needs.’

Revitalize Your Core: Top 5 Home Exercises to Flatten Your Lower Belly Post-60

0

Sculpt and tighten your lower belly with these easy exercises you can do at home.

>

Many fitness enthusiasts striving for a sleek, toned core initially rely on classic abdominal exercises such as sit-ups. While these exercises can certainly enhance your routine, they aren’t the fastest path to visible results.

Your first priority should be to create a calorie deficit, meaning you expend more calories than you take in. Once you have that in place, it’s time to integrate the most effective exercises into your routine. We’re here to guide you through this process.

Bruno Pontes, a certified Personal Trainer by ACSM and AFAA at Muscle Booster, reveals five dynamic home exercises to efficiently flatten and define your lower belly, outpacing the results from sit-ups after age 60.

“Sit-ups aren’t necessarily harmful, and when executed properly, they serve as effective ab exercises. However, consistently flexing the spine under pressure or doing a high volume can strain the lower back,” Pontes cautions. “This doesn’t suggest you should eliminate sit-ups from your workout; rather, it underlines the importance of variety. Combining sit-ups with core-stabilizing exercises like planks, dead bugs, and loaded carries can provide a comprehensive approach to building core strength.”

Dead Bug

“The dead bug is a great starting point for functional core training because it teaches you to keep your core stable while moving your arms and legs independently,” Pontes says.

  1. Lie flat on your back with your arms extended toward the ceiling and knees lifted in a tabletop position.
  2. Press your back into the mat and brace your core.
  3. Lower one arm and the opposite leg.
  4. Return to the start position.
  5. Repeat on the other side and continue to alternate.

These 4 Lower-Body Moves Burn Belly Fat Without Touching Your Core

Suitcase Deadlift

“The suitcase deadlift is a particularly functional movement because it closely resembles something we do in everyday life, picking up and carrying a heavy object,” Pontes notes.

  1. Start by standing tall and holding a dumbbell, kettlebell, or water jug in one hand.
  2. Push your hips back, bend your knees, and lower the weight toward the ground.
  3. Press through your feet to rise back up, making sure the weight stays close to your body.
  4. Repeat on the other side.

The 5-Minute Morning Routine That Shrinks Belly Fat Fast After 50

Bear Crawl

“The bear crawl challenges your core while your body is moving, so it’s a good example of functional strength rather than simply holding a static position,” Pontes explains. “This is a great exercise for developing stability throughout your body as multiple muscle groups work together to keep your body stable. It also helps build your coordination and shoulder strength while challenging you to stay balanced.”

  1. Begin in a quadruped position with your knees under your hips and your hands under your shoulders.
  2. Lift your knees a few inches off the ground while keeping your core engaged and your back flat.
  3. Move your left hand and right foot forward.
  4. Then, move your right hand and left foot forward.
  5. Continue to “crawl,” maintaining steady breath and a tight core throughout.

Leg Drops

“Leg drops are great for strengthening lower abs because they specifically target the lower portion of the rectus abdominis. The controlled movement required help improve control and endurance,” Pontes explains.

  1. Begin by lying flat on your back.
  2. Lift your legs up to 90 degrees.
  3. Slowly lower both legs toward the ground without arching your back.
  4. Keep your core engaged as you lift them back up to 90 degrees.

William Cast as Villain in Controversial Harry and Meghan Homecoming Drama

0

Charles has effectively turned Harry into William’s concern now.

The strategic messaging started well in advance of the Sussexes’ arrival in Britain on Wednesday.

‘Change of Plans!’ announced the upbeat headline on People magazine’s latest cover story.

That is certainly one way to describe the situation.

It’s worth noting that as recently as May 2025, Harry expressed to the BBC, ‘I can’t see a world in which I would be bringing my wife and children back to the UK at this point.’

Apparently, when all your Hollywood deals dry up and every major ally from Oprah Winfrey to Ted Sarandos looks to be keeping their distance — well, it seems Harry can actually see a world in which his wife and children would not just survive, as Meghan once famously said, but thrive.

How convenient.

Charles has made Harry William’s problem now. And the messaging began well before the Sussexes landed in Britain on Wednesday.

It is also not enough — is it ever with the Sussexes? — that King Charles is welcoming his wayward son and his insufferable wife.

No: It seems Harry and Meghan want William to welcome them back too.

Has an apology been offered to William? Not as far as we know.

Nor has an apology been offered, or issued publicly, to King Charles: Not for bashing Queen Camilla, as Harry did in telling Anderson Cooper on 60 Minutes that Camilla was ‘dangerous’ and ‘left bodies in the street’.

Or for heavily implying, in that infamous Oprah interview, that certain royals had made racist comments — an accusation Harry later walked back.

Or for airing all manner of private conversations and information in his memoir Spare — calling the future King ‘Willy’, reprinting private text messages sent by Kate and revealing that Charles still travelled with his childhood teddy bear.

Diana, I believe, had it right in that Panorama interview: Charles was never up to the ‘top job’.

Why else would he allow William — always the dutiful son, the future King — to be put in such a position?

Especially as the 30th anniversary of Diana’s death approaches.

You can see it now: Harry banging on that his brother is too cold-hearted to forgive, too stubborn to reunite for this momentous anniversary, too cruel.

If anything, it’s quite the opposite. William seems to understand what few do or are willing to admit: Some people aren’t worthy of forgiveness — especially those who have never asked for it.

Perhaps William realizes there are some things you can’t come back from, that some betrayals are too deep, too profound, to ever recover trust — let alone a modicum of politesse.

And because it clearly bears repeating: William is no ordinary brother or son. The fate of the monarchy — made shaky by Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex — rests on his shoulders alone.

Why would Charles abide this?

Could it be, as I and others theorize, that Charles is a little jealous of William? His eldest son, after all, possesses all of Diana’s gifts: Her magnetism, her charm, her looks, her popularity with the British public.

Just days ago, it was said that one of the King’s most trusted advisors, former diplomat Theo Rycroft, has made it his ‘number one task’ to reconcile the brothers, the Daily Mail reported.

‘A rapprochement between William and Harry remains a work in progress, and Theo is taking the lead’, one source said.

‘Under Theo’s watch, William could publicly acknowledge his brother somehow. No one is expecting them to be friends, but the drama has to end,’ said another insider (though Charles and William sources have denied the claims).

Why? Truly: Why and how should William be expected to do anything here? Harry and Meghan remain at the bottom of UK royal popularity polls, while William and Kate are firmly at the top.

Almost everyone approves of the Prince and Princess of Wales moving on.

But Harry and Meghan’s return will doubtless cause William and Kate — herself in remission from cancer — no end of stress.

Picture it: Harry makes a public appearance at a hospital, a charity gala, an awards ceremony. How will he not be covered as a working royal, even though the late Queen forbade the Sussexes’ proposed ‘half-in, half-out’ approach pre-Megxit?

One royal source has already signaled to the London Times that Harry and Meghan plan to re-enter the UK as ‘private royals-plus’ — which sounds like another way of saying they are going to do whatever they damn well please.

The messaging out of Charles’s camp is, in my view, only helping fuel this strategy.

‘The King would love to have Harry around,’ a source close to the royals told People magazine. ‘He will want to see his sons together over time. This is the best opportunity we have seen in recent years.’

The best opportunity for who, exactly? Because we know William doesn’t want it.

Harry and Meghan's return will doubtless cause William and Kate no end of stress.

Harry and Meghan’s return will doubtless cause William and Kate no end of stress.

The messaging out of Charles's camp is, in my view, only helping fuel this strategy.

Could it be, as I and others theorize, that Charles is a little jealous of William? His eldest son, after all, possesses all of Diana’s gifts.

But the drumbeat begins, the chess moves quite obvious: Who would be so insensitive as to deny the cancer-stricken King, now 77, the chance to reunite with his younger son?

Who would deny the King the opportunity to have peace between his sons?

Who would be so callous as to refuse to come together on holidays such as Christmas, or Easter, and display the love, forgiveness and renewal at the heart of those holidays?

Who would be so bitter as to refuse to stand beside his only brother on the 30th anniversary of their mother’s tragic death?

William. That’s the framing that could be pushed in the hopes of getting him to crack.

The Prince of Wales should not. He is absolutely in the right here. Harry and Meghan haven’t so much as hinted they will ask William and Kate for forgiveness — let alone that they’ll do whatever it takes to rebuild trust.

William isn’t just protecting his family and himself. He is protecting the future of the monarchy from two spoiled, entitled, resentful brats who have already tried to destroy the kingdom from outside palace walls.

And since that hasn’t worked, there’s every reason to believe they’ll try to destroy it from within.

Only William, the resolute, can save it.

Tim Curry: The Untold Story of His Near Casting as an Iconic Comic Book Villain

0

Tim Curry, the iconic actor who departed this world at the age of 80, remains celebrated for his memorable on-screen portrayals as Dr. Frank-n-Furter in “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” and the menacing Pennywise in “It.” However, much of his illustrious career unfolded out of the camera’s view, with Curry making an indelible mark in the world of voice acting through the ’90s and early 2000s. His vocal talents brought to life an eclectic mix of characters, including the sinister pollution entity Hexxus in “Ferngully: The Last Rainforest,” the adventurous Sir Nigel Thornberry in “The Wild Thornberrys,” and the imposing Chancellor Palpatine/Darth Sidious in “Star Wars: The Clone Wars.”

Despite his broad range of roles, Curry narrowly missed out on what could have been one of his most iconic cartoon characters: The Joker in “Batman: The Animated Series.” Initially cast as Batman’s infamous adversary, Curry even recorded three episodes before being re-cast with Mark Hamill stepping into the villain’s shoes. Andrea Romano, the voice director for the series, recounted to Vulture that although she believed in Curry’s unique take, producer Alan Burnett found it challenging to embrace his portrayal of the Joker.

Co-creator Bruce Timm revealed that while many actors fell into the campy traps of previous portrayals like Cesar Romero’s, Curry brought a mix of humor, eccentricity, and a touch of menace that Timm found intriguing but ultimately not a fit for the show’s vision. Curry later attributed his unexpected recasting to a bout of bronchitis that affected his performance during recording sessions.

How Mark Hamill replaced Tim Curry as The Joker

Meanwhile, Mark Hamill, a fervent comic enthusiast, initially engaged with “Batman: The Animated Series” by voicing a villainous CEO tied to Mr. Freeze’s tragic storyline. Yet, craving a regular presence on the show, he eagerly took on the role of the Joker, just as Curry’s exit opened the opportunity.

The transition was no small feat, as Hamill had to deliver the Joker’s lines within the constraints of animations already tailored to Curry’s performance. Romano lauded Hamill’s remarkable ability to adapt quickly, stating, “introducing such a dynamic character like the Joker under those conditions was immensely challenging.” With unwavering passion and undeniable talent, Hamill brought to life a rendition of the Joker that would become legendary, turning the Jedi himself into the perfect Clown Prince of Crime.

While Curry is among the actors who almost played the Joker, his voice can still be heard in two different “Batman: The Animated Series” episodes: his Joker laugh was used uncredited for a robot clown in “Be a Clown,” and provided additional voices in “Fear of Victory.” He’d return to the DC Animated Universe as Mutro Botha, the last survivor of the Society of Assassins, in the “Batman Beyond” episode “Final Cut.”

Tragic Alaska Plane Crash Claims Four Lives in Remote Waters Near Isolated Town

0

Tragedy struck on Wednesday as a small plane plunged into the shallow waters near a secluded Alaskan coastal town, claiming the lives of all four individuals onboard, according to officials.

The ill-fated aircraft, identified as a Piper PA-24-260, had embarked on its journey from Merrill Field Airport in Anchorage, destined for the rustic town of Seldovia. The Alaska Department of Public Safety reported that the crash occurred at approximately 1:18 p.m.

Located roughly 136 miles southwest of Anchorage, Seldovia’s airport was the intended destination of the flight.

A statement revealed, “Alaska State Troopers received notification of a plane crash occurring in the Seldovia Slough area.”

A helicopter crew from Anchorage was dispatched to the crash site and other troopers were sent by boat from Anchor Point.

Following the crash, the plane was completely submerged in about 15 feet of water in the Seldovia Slough near the shore, according to Clint Johnson, the National Transportation Safety Board’s Alaska region chief.

Troopers were forced to wait until the tide went out in order to reach the aircraft.

Once the tide level dropped at about 6:30 p.m., troopers were able to retrieve the bodies of the four adult victims from the plane.

The bodies will be sent to the state medical examiner’s office for autopsy. The victims’ names will be released once next of kin are notified, according to the Alaska Department of Public Safety.

It remains unclear what may have caused the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the crash.

This comes after another plane crashed last week at a remote military site in western Alaska, killing all eight people on board. That aircraft had been making its second runway approach in heavy fog, and its pilots were struggling to see the gravel airstrip, according to officials.

In that incident, the Cessna’s two pilots were flying solely by instruments when the plane crashed. Regulations required that the pilots abort their first landing attempt because of the lack of visibility, and the plane crashed on its second attempt, about one-third of a mile from the runway.

Mysterious ‘Jumping Sticks’ Astonish Visitors on Florida’s Space Coast Beaches

0

Strange and translucent “jumping sticks” have been appearing along Florida’s Space Coast, sparking curiosity and leaving people wondering: just what are these mysterious sea creatures?

The sight of these 1-inch-long, animated critters captivated a beachgoer as they strolled near Indialantic Boardwalk, as covered by FOX 35 WOFL.

“Their vigorous, hopping movements immediately caught my attention,” shared Diana Duby with WOFL.

Initially guessing they might be baby eels, Duby wasn’t far from the truth, according to Dr. Todd Osborne, a marine biology specialist at the University of Florida’s Whitney Laboratory for Marine Bioscience.

Dr. Osborne confirmed to WOFL that these creatures are indeed part of the same leptocephalus family.

“That little clear thing — that could be an eel, a tarpon, several different tarpon, bonefish, ladyfish,” Dr. Osborne said.

“They all fall under this class, the same order and they all have the same growth morphology as larvae, which is really cool.”

The mysterious organisms are so young that identifying their exact species is nearly impossible without further investigation.

One person’s chance encounter with the drifting, translucent organisms highlights how much remains unknown about Florida’s coastal marine ecosystems.

“We’ve been cataloging things in the ocean for a couple hundred years, and we still have no idea about what is going on out there,” Dr. Osborne told WOFL.

Streamer Drama: Peller Slams Carterefe Over Marriage Claims

Well-known internet personality Peller has shot back at fellow streamer Carterefe following claims that Peller and his partner, Jarvis, were pushed into marriage and would eventually rue the day they made such a decision.

During a previous interview, Carterefe expressed his inability to date a celebrity and disclosed that he did not receive an invitation to Peller and Jarvis’ wedding ceremony. He also remarked that the couple would soon discover that they are of little consequence to the online world.

In response to these statements, Peller accused Carterefe of being manipulative, suggesting he continuously seeks opportunities to provoke and engage others online. Peller alleged that Carterefe exploits those around him to draw attention and ride the waves of internet popularity.

Peller also reminisced about an instance where Carterefe supposedly made snide comparisons about their camera equipment — Carterefe purchased one for ₦9 million, while fans of Peller gifted him a more expensive one valued at ₦20 million.

Moreover, Peller accused Carterefe of advising him against attending Kai Cenat’s Streamer University, only to then submit his own application.

Peller further alleged that Carterefe would ask him to stop his own streams so they could stream on Carterefe’s Twitch account whenever Peller was attracting about 7,000 viewers. He also claimed that Carterefe repeatedly advised him to leave Jarvis during their private conversations.

In his words in part, he said:

“Carter told me not to apply for Kai Cenat streamers university, saying Shank is wasting his time because we are bigger, but this year he rushed to apply. He knows how to use people.

Every time we’re together, you will tell me to leave my wife. We go dey talk man to man and he will just jump to Jarvis, saying I’m not supposed to be with one woman.”

Peller’s allegations have added another layer to the exchange between both content creators, with their comments drawing attention from fans online.

Defiant Grandma Faces Legal Battle to Keep Feeding Community

0

Defying warnings from the local health department, a determined grandmother in Missouri continues her heartfelt mission to serve free breakfasts to her neighborhood. Her bold act of kindness has drawn both attention and admiration.

At 55, Kathy Kite rises at an astonishing 3:30 a.m. each morning. Since May, she has faithfully prepared and served breakfast to a crowd at her Harrisburg home— a quaint village of around 300 residents nestled between Kansas City and St. Louis.

In a conversation with the Daily Mail, Kite disclosed her motivation. When the gas station where she is employed stopped serving breakfast post-COVID, the regulars kept returning, yearning for their morning meals.

“Everyone kept saying, ‘We want breakfast!’ So I thought, well, I know how to cook,” Kite laughed, her voice carrying warmth as she spoke from her daughter’s home, where she was watching her grandchildren.

In Harrisburg, she explained, “you need to drive 30 miles in any direction just to find a breakfast spot.” The lack of nearby dining options spurred her to take these early morning endeavors into her own hands.

The grandmother’s cooking, which includes breakfast burritos, sausage, egg and cheese biscuits, gravy and coffee, quickly became a hit and more people started coming by the house.

But in early July, Kite was stunned when she received a letter from the Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services Department stating that she needed to obtain a food permit or face legal action.

The letter, which the grandmother shared with the Daily Mail, stated that it was sent after the health department received a complaint.

It informed Kite that if she wanted to keep serving food to her community, she would need to install a commercial kitchen, submit paperwork for a food permit and pay the fees associated with obtaining a permit.

Kite said: ‘I called Chrystal Smart at the Boone County Health Department and explained to her I was not running a business out of my home. I just had some friends coming over for breakfast.

‘She proceeded to tell me that I was running an illegal restaurant, as she put it, out of my home because you’re not allowed to feed the public without a license,’ the grandma continued.

‘I said: “But I’m not feeding the public. I’m feeding my community.” These people are my friends and family. It’s less than 300 people in my community and I was born and raised here. I know everyone that comes to my home,’ Kite said.

The grandmother also said it is ‘not feasible’ for her to install a commercial kitchen in her home just ‘to make 15, 16 burritos and four or five biscuits.’

‘My house is over 100 years old. I’m not gonna jeopardize the integrity and spend hundreds of thousands of dollars that I don’t have to upgrade my kitchen,’ she added.

She also said ‘anyone’ is welcome to visit her home to see that it is clean. ‘I’m just trying to be good to my community,’ Kite said.

The grandmother emphasized that she is going to keep feeding people for free and that she will not be intimidated by the letter she received from the health department.

In a statement to The Daily Mail, the Columbia/Boone County Public Health and Human Services Department said that it sent the letter after receiving ‘multiple complaints about food being served out of Ms. Kite’s residence, resulting in foodborne illnesses.’

The statement further said: ‘Ms. Kite’s home had an open sign, tip jar, advertised food on social media and a sign in her yard — all things that are typically associated with a food establishment.’

But the department denied threatening jail time and said: ‘Our role in public health is to follow up on these complaints to prevent the spread of foodborne illnesses. The letter Ms. Kite received details the steps she can take to come into compliance with Boone County Food Code.’

Kite told the Daily Mail: ‘Never once have I ever, ever charged anybody.’ She said that she had a tip jar, which she got rid of after receiving the letter, purely because people kept wanting to give her money so she can keep buying ingredients.

The grandma also said that during her call with Smart, the health department representative, she was told that the illness complaint was determined to have been a false report after further investigation, yet she was still sent the letter.

As to who submitted the complaint, Kite said she has ‘no idea, and it bothers me… If someone had a problem with what I was doing, why didn’t they just come to me?’

Although the health department claimed it did not threaten jail time against Kite, a response to the department, penned by attorney Dave Roland of the Goldwater Institute on behalf of the grandmother, said the threat was implied.

Roland wrote that violation of the food code Kite was accused of breaching is a Class A misdemeanor, which is punishable by fines of up to $2,000 and up to one year in prison.

The attorney wrote: ‘The demands made in your Letter may violate both the US and Missouri Constitutions. Both the federal and state constitutions protect Ms. Kite’s right to host guests in her home, including offering food and refreshments on a non-commercial basis.

‘Any attempt to impose criminal or civil penalties on Ms. Kite for providing food or refreshments to guests in her home on a non-commercial basis would violate constitutional safeguards.’

The lawyer’s letter also requested that the health department explain how Kite’s actions violate the law in more detail and asked if there are any steps she must take that would allow her to keep offering free food to her community without obtaining a permit.

Roland shared a statement with the Daily Mail that said in part: ‘The hospitality Kathy is offering to her community is consistent with the best aspects of American culture and history.

‘Americans have always embraced the virtue of opening their homes to friends, family, and even strangers – and there has never been a need to get the government’s permission to engage in this sort of hospitality.

‘This situation is the very definition of “unnecessary governmental intrusion,” which is why we have stepped in to secure Kathy’s freedom to continue providing food to those she has welcomed into her home.’

Since the attorney sent a letter to the health department on August 20, Kite said she has not heard anything more from officials.

Offering some final words, Kite said: ‘Reach out and help your fellow man. That is what America is based on. It’s who we are as a people.

‘And don’t be afraid of getting in toruble with the government… If you do something out of the goodness of your heart – if you give out good – good’s gonna come back to you.’
