Louisiana Boy Injured in Deadly Stabbing Hailed a Hero for Seeking Help

0

A 6-year-old boy from Houma, Louisiana, is being praised as a “superhero” after surviving a deadly mass stabbing that killed four people. Despite suffering stab wounds, the child managed to flee to a neighbor’s home, where he collapsed after reaching safety.

Authorities say the suspect, 47-year-old Kaegan Jude Solet, allegedly chased the injured boy to the neighbor’s door, knocked him down and then ran away. The child was able to get inside the residence but soon lost consciousness, local station WWL reported. The neighbor then called 911.

Solet was hospitalized with injuries sustained during the alleged stabbing rampage. After being released Tuesday, he was booked by the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office on four counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder.

The boy remained in stable condition after suffering multiple stab wounds, his father said in a Facebook post Tuesday.

“Please pray for my little man as he recovers he’s so so strong and such a fighter,” his father wrote. “Current status (he’s stable) thank everybody for reaching out.”

In a post on X, the father thanked supporters while sharing memorial messages that called his son a “superhero” and mourned the deaths of four relatives. He said the child “appreciates every last one of you reaching out and helping and praying.”

“I told him earlier that he has so many people behind him and praying for him and he smiled thank yall fr , god bless,” the father added.

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office apprehended Solet early Sunday following a manhunt in which information from the wounded child and the neighbor helped investigators.

“On September 12, 2026, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the 200 block of Ashland Drive, where they located a juvenile suffering from apparent stab wounds,” a sheriff’s office Facebook post read. “The juvenile was transported by Acadian Ambulance Service Air Med to an out-of-area hospital in critical condition.

“As Deputies continued their preliminary investigation, four deceased victims were discovered inside two nearby residences. Detectives were called in to assist, and began processing multiple scenes, gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and developing information surrounding the incidents. During the investigation, Detectives identified Solet as a person of interest and began an intensive effort to locate him.”

There was a GoFundMe set up for the boy and his family. The crowdfunding page identified the boy’s relatives Verna Mae Verdin and Letha Verret as victims who were killed in their home during the attack. That page had reached almost $60,000 of the $70,000 goal as of Wednesday morning.

“Despite his injuries, he was able to escape and get help,” organizer Brandon Thiel said of the 6-year-old survivor. “He is currently in critical condition at a local hospital, where he continues to fight for his life. This devastating tragedy has left the Verret family facing an unimaginable amount of grief, uncertainty, and hardship. The loss is especially profound for Letha’s minor children, who are now having to cope with the sudden loss of their mother, grandmother, and uncle all at once.”

Authorities are searching for Kaegan Jude Solet, 47, after identifying him as a person of interest in a series of deadly stabbing incidents. (Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office)

Solet reportedly was known to the family, and the sheriff’s reports shared no motive.

“Our hearts remain with the victims, their families and every member of our community who has been affected by this unimaginable tragedy,” Sheriff Tim Soignet wrote in a statement posted to Facebook. “We recognize that no words can lessen the pain these families are experiencing, but we want them to know that they are not alone and that our agency remains firmly committed to pursuing justice on their behalf.

“I am incredibly proud of our personnel and supporting agencies whose immediate response and tireless work brought this investigation to this point. Our Deputies are members of this community, and they carry the weight of these tragedies alongside the families and citizens we serve.”

The latest investigation is not the first time Solet’s name has surfaced in violent crime allegations.

Solet was arrested in December 2019 for allegedly stabbing a woman repeatedly and leaving her locked inside a Houma motel room, according to a police news release from the time.

Asked why Solet was no longer in custody, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office Lt. Blake Tabor said authorities were also searching for answers.

“I can’t tell you. Certainly, that’s the hot question, right? Why is he out?” Tabor said. “We’re probably just as stunned as everyone else is.”

Tabor emphasized that the sheriff’s office has a strong working relationship with the Terrebonne Parish District Attorney’s Office but said questions remain about how Solet’s previous cases were handled.

“How this slipped through, I certainly don’t know, but it’s a question that probably needs to be answered,” Tabor said.

News Media reached out to the district attorney’s office seeking the circumstances surrounding Solet’s release and whether he remained under any court-ordered supervision but did not immediately receive a response.

Democrat Says She’s ‘Ashamed’ of Party After Son Killed in Car Crash

A grieving lifelong Democrat said she is “ashamed” of her party after her son, his wife of 16 days and their cat were killed in a crash involving an illegal migrant.

Elizabeth Carter gave an emotional, tearful statement Tuesday before the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement in Washington, DC.

Surrounded by photographs of her son, Billy Carter, and daughter-in-law, Jenny Lower, Carter recounted the devastating loss of the newly married couple, who died last November.

Billy, Jenny and their cat, Bert, were driving home from a wedding reception in Lower’s Oregon hometown when their vehicle struck a jackknifed big rig — an out-of-control tractor-trailer — driven by Rajinder Kumar.

Kumar, 32, is an Indian national who was in the US illegally, according to an April 2026 Department of Homeland Security press release. He had been issued a Commercial Driver’s License in California.

In her testimony, Carter criticized Democrats’ resistance to immigration enforcement, saying: “We allowed 10 million people in under Biden. How is there a different suggestion as to how to process them, other than the same way they came into the country en masse, leaving?

“I have to say, as a lifelong Democrat, I am ashamed of what my party is doing,” the grieving mother added.

Billy Carter, his new wife, Jenny Lower, and their cat, Bert, were killed in an Oregon crash last November. The couple had married just 16 days earlier and were returning from a wedding reception.

“Well, they don’t care,” Rep. Brad Knott (R-NC) replied before continuing to press the issue.

‘This is the question for the community to consider: is it worth enforcing our laws to protect just one American family?

‘One party says, “Absolutely, if we have to mass deport the problem they built, so be it”.

‘If it protects one family from having to suffer like you’ve suffered, I think that is a worthwhile endeavor,’ Knott continued.

‘Absolutely,’ Carter responded.

Carter also told lawmakers that her loved ones ‘lost the Russian roulette game our government is forcing them to play.’

Knott then pointed directly to where Democrat committee members sit, and said: ‘They are still defending it. Not one of them will say, if you’re here illegally, get out.’

Kumar was taken into custody on April 11 by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers after ‘Oregon sanctuary politicians refused to cooperate’ with the agency and released him back onto the streets on April 2, DHS said.

‘This illegal alien was issued a CDL by Gavin Newsom’s California. He then went on to recklessly drive a truck on America’s highways and KILL two honeymooners. Instead of cooperating with ICE law enforcement, Oregon sanctuary politicians RELEASED him from jail back into American communities,’ Lauren Bis, a spokeswoman for ICE, said.

Kumar entered America illegally near Lukeville, Arizona, on November 28, 2022, while former President Joe Biden was in office.

‘Gavin Newsom’s California gave him a commercial driver’s license, and the Biden administration gave him a work authorization,’ the agency said.

Prosecutors charged him with first-degree manslaughter over the fatal crash. Kumar is currently being held at the Northwest ICE Processing Center in Tacoma, Washington, where he faces removal proceedings.

At the time of the fatal crash, Dennis Carter, Elizabeth’s husband, told The Oregonian about his son and daughter-in-law’s marriage.

‘There’s never been a happier marriage on the planet. They never had to spend one minute apart,’ Dennis recalled.

Bill was born in Phoenix, Arizona, before moving with his family to Springfield, Oregon, his loved ones told the outlet.

One of his brothers suggested that he join him in a scavenger hunt organized by young adults at their church, and that is where he met Jennifer.

The couple started dating in May 2025, and by August, Bill got on one knee and asked Jennifer to be his wife.

Bill and Jennifer married on November 8 at a temple in Portland.

‘Billy and Jenny were just lit up. They were smiling ear to ear,’ Tom Lower, Jennifer’s father, recalled.

A funeral was held for the couple on December 8.

Resident Evil First Reactions Arrive for Zach Cregger’s Horror Film

0

Zach Cregger’s highly anticipated “Resident Evil” movie is creeping ever closer to its September 18 release, and critics are now getting their first look. Early reactions suggest the filmmaker behind the grisly, unnerving “Weapons” may have delivered another standout horror experience.

On X, previously known as Twitter, entertainment journalist Jonathan Sim readily labeled “Resident Evil” as Cregger’s finest work yet, which is saying something. “#ResidentEvil is a PHENOMENAL edge-of-your-seat experience,” he wrote. “Zach Cregger’s best movie yet. It shines in its simplicity. A one-night thriller about one person trying to survive. Austin Abrams brings so much comedy to this role. Funny, exciting, and demands to be seen with a crowd.”

On the same platform, Collider’s Perri Neminoff also praised the movie’s comedic beats. “Cannot believe how many hilarious beats this movie has without ever diminishing the stakes or sheer terror of the situation,” she wrote, while also praising Abrams’ performance as the lead character, medical courier Bryan. Junior Felix of That Hollywood Show, Erik Anderson of AwardsWatch, and film journalist Courtney Howard all joined the choir of praising either Cregger’s blend of horror and surprises, Abrams’ ability to infuse the situation with comedic sensibilities, or both. This makes it seem very plausible that the director might have delivered the best “Resident Evil” movie yet.

In Resident Evil, surprise is Zach Cregger’s secret weapon

Many people who have seen “Resident Evil” seem to point out that the movie thrives on its twists and turns. “The best thing about the #ResidentEvil games is that you never know what’s next. And that’s exactly what Zach Cregger’s movie is. It’s wildly unpredictable, super gross, really funny, and constantly scary,” Gizmodo and io9’s Germain Lussier wrote on X.

Erik Voss of New Rockstars also highlighted the film’s surprises along with its humor and genuine scares, comparing the film’s final stretch to “Cabin in the Woods.” Meanwhile, Adam Hlaváč compared parts of the movie to John Carpenter’s 1982 classic “The Thing,” a movie that famously delivers several body horror surprises. While we’re on the subject of movie comparisons, Dan Pfleegor of Losers Club Pod complimented “Resident Evil” for capturing the greatest aspects of Cregger’s previous films, combined with the video game series’ overall vibe. “Resident Evil harnessed the momentum of Weapons’ third act & mixed in the nervy fear of Barbarian’s “what’s behind the next locked door?” Zach Cregger dropped a lot of subtle game references too. Glad he didn’t over highlight them. Captures the panicked spirit of the games,” his assessment on X read.

The emerging consensus is that “Resident Evil” is a thrilling, sharply entertaining ride, combining Cregger’s familiar mix of scares, unexpected twists, and eccentric humor. Audiences will soon have the chance to decide whether the video game adaptation can outdo the director’s earlier work.

“Resident Evil” arrives in theaters on September 18, 2026.

Max Verstappen Takes On 100 Influencers in Race Today

0

David Coulthard says Max Verstappen needs challenges such as Wednesday’s ‘Max vs 100’ karting race to sustain his passion for motorsport, with the four-time Formula 1 world champion becoming ever more frustrated by modern F1 machinery.

Verstappen will line up at the very back of a 101-kart grid at Silverstone on Wednesday, attempting to pass 100 competitors in a one-of-a-kind event that will be shown live on Disney+.

Coulthard, who competed in Formula 1 alongside Verstappen’s father Jos, believes the event offers far more than a television spectacle. For a driver whose enthusiasm reaches well beyond grand prix racing, it is a chance to do what he enjoys most: race.

‘Unquestionably,’ Coulthard told me when asked if Verstappen needs events like this to keep enjoying himself amid his frustrations this season.

‘If you look at his year to date, he’s been out testing a lot. His GT3, he raced at the Nurburgring 24 hours, was leading when the car failed. So that’s an event where you have teammates and you share the responsibility of driving that car.

‘In that respect, with no disrespect to the other Formula One drivers, Max is actually the most active and most passionate racer.’

Former Red Bull driver David Coulthard believes the spectacle is about more than entertainment

Former Red Bull driver David Coulthard believes the Silverstone event represents more than simple entertainment

That hunger for competition has taken on greater importance during a challenging 2026 campaign for Verstappen.

Red Bull have slipped away from the front under the current Formula 1 regulations, with Verstappen sixth in the drivers’ championship after 14 rounds on 145 points.

Kimi Antonelli leads on 292, with Lewis Hamilton third on 191. Verstappen has taken three podiums in the last three Grands Prix, but has yet to win a race this season.

The Dutchman has also been open about his dissatisfaction with this generation of Formula 1 machinery.

Coulthard believes that criticism should not simply be dismissed as the frustration of a driver who is no longer winning every weekend.

‘He doesn’t like this particular generation of cars,’ Coulthard said. ‘I guess you could say, well, if he was winning, he would like it more, and of course that would be the case.

‘But it doesn’t take away from the fundamentals that he feels that with the hybrid era, it’s taken away an element of the pleasure for him driving, and that may well be why we’ve seen him more actively going out and doing GT racing and other forms of racing, which isn’t at all the norm for Formula One drivers.’

Verstappen’s commitment to racing away from F1 was underlined by his Nurburgring 24 Hours appearance earlier this year.

He led the race in his Mercedes-AMG GT3 before his team was forced out by a driveshaft problem with just over three hours remaining.

Verstappen nevertheless said he had ‘really enjoyed the experience’ and would be open to similar events.

He has also remained active in esports, with Coulthard pointing to the fact that members of the public can race against Verstappen through his sim-racing operation.

And, Coulthard argues, the key point about Wednesday’s event is simple: Verstappen would not be doing it if he did not want to.

‘Whether it’s his esports team, which is active and the general public can go and race against a four-time world champion in esports, or whether it’s his GT racing, and then obviously this has been put together by Red Bull,’ he said.

‘But if he didn’t want to do it, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.’

The challenge itself is unlike anything Verstappen normally encounters. He will start behind 100 competitors drawn from the worlds of sport, gaming, social media and motorsport.

The pool of contestants includes ultrarunner Arda Saatci, basketball shooting specialist Chris ‘Lethal Shooter’ Matthews, freestyle mountain biker Matt Jones, streamers TheGrefg, Caedrel and TheDonato, and Daily Mail’s very own sports presenter, Henry Williams. Coulthard expects Verstappen’s instincts to take over.

‘If it was a Monte Carlo-esque car track, it would be very, very difficult,’ he said. ‘But thankfully, Silverstone is a wider, wider circuit. They’ve lengthened the track, and therefore he will look to overtake quickly.

‘He’s a great racer. He will find spaces. If you try and block the inside, he’ll go the outside.’

Coulthard suspects the field may ultimately need to work together to deny Verstappen.

‘You almost need a couple of them to team up with each other to basically make it where the track is effectively blocked in front of him,’ he said.

The Dutchman Verstappen will start at the back of a 101-kart field at Silverstone and attempt to overtake 100 rivals

The Dutchman Verstappen will start at the back of a 101-kart field at Silverstone and attempt to overtake 100 rivals

‘But I doubt very much that anyone’s thinking about team strategy. They’ll all be thinking about individual glory.

‘This is an opportunity for an unknown person, other than their family and friends, to suddenly be the one that beat Max.’

The wider F1 backdrop could hardly be more different. While Verstappen is using the event as a return to his roots – having first karted at four years old, Hamilton’s first season with Ferrari has become increasingly difficult from a championship perspective.

Hamilton is third in the standings on 191 points, 101 behind Antonelli after the Italian’s eighth victory of the season in Madrid on Sunday.

Hamilton retired from the Spanish Grand Prix with a brake problem, while Antonelli beat Verstappen to another victory.

Coulthard believes Hamilton’s mathematical hopes of an eighth world title are now extremely remote, even if Ferrari can make a significant step forward.

‘I don’t think, based on historical, you know, watching a Formula One, I don’t think he’s going to find the upgrade and be able to pull that points deficit back,’ Coulthard said.

But he stressed the fundamental limitation facing any driver in F1.

‘At the end of the day, our sport is, yes, the driver makes the difference, but you can only drive the car you’re given.

Daily Mail sports presenter Henry Williams is taking part in the event which is broadcast on Disney+

‘Ours is a technology sport, so it’s really the team against the next team, and then the driver makes a difference. So right now he doesn’t have the best package, but it’s not far away.’

Hamilton’s position is particularly intriguing given the man who replaced him at Mercedes.

Antonelli, only 20, has already won eight of the 14 races this season and leads team-mate George Russell by 81 points.

His Monza victory also made him the first Italian to win the Italian Grand Prix since 1966. Coulthard has been struck not only by Antonelli’s speed but by his attitude.

‘The guy has been phenomenal,’ he said. ‘And what’s been really cool to see is how grounded and how approachable he is.’

Coulthard recalled interviewing Antonelli at Monza for Channel 4 and being given a hug afterwards.

‘I think it just shows that kind of sincerity of how much he’s enjoying this moment,’ he said.

‘So I think we should all enjoy it because, of course, he’s not going to be 20 forever, and as the journey goes on, it demands and his time will increase, and he’ll probably become a little bit more guarded.’

Coulthard believes Antonelli is already establishing himself as a defining figure of the next generation.

‘He’s well on his way to becoming the first Italian world champion since the 50s, I think it was,’ he said. ‘Even the Pope will know his name.’

Ed Sheeran Responds After Macklemore Is Dropped From Tour Over Pro-Palestinian Comments

0

Ed Sheeran has responded after Macklemore said he was removed from the English singer’s tour over political remarks made on stage.

In a social media statement Tuesday, Sheeran said the decision to drop Macklemore was made by the tour promoter, not by him. He also explained that he personally does not use his platform to address politics.

Macklemore said Monday that he had been removed from Sheeran’s tour after delivering pro-Palestinian remarks during a performance at MetLife Stadium earlier this month. The rapper also shared the comments on social media.

Other scheduled opening acts — including Aaron Rowe, Finneas, Beoga and Lukas Graham — said Tuesday that they would withdraw from the tour following the controversy.

What did Ed Sheeran say in response to Macklemore?

Responding directly to Macklemore’s post, Sheeran said he was “appalled by the conflict between Israel and Palestine.” He said venues scheduled after his New Jersey concerts had indicated they would cancel the shows if Macklemore continued as a supporting act.

“I was informed that this stance was based on how Macklemore conveyed part of his message during his performance, rather than on everything that was said,” Sheeran wrote.

Sheeran said he tried to reach a resolution with several venue owners, including Robert Kraft, the head of the Kraft Group and owner of the New England Patriots. Sheeran is due to perform at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts, later this month.

“I was also involved in direct talks with promoters along with activists on both sides to try and find a mutual resolution for all, but the venue’s and promoter’s decision was final,” Sheeran said.

Sheeran reiterated that Macklemore’s exit was not his call, writing: “Macklemore coming off tour was the promoter’s decision, it was not mine. Macklemore’s contract for the tour was with the promoter, not me.”

In his lengthy statement, Sheeran also addressed why he has chosen not to use his public platform to deliver political messages.

“There is a reason I do not use my professional platform for politics – my audience includes young people, often children, of all backgrounds. Those who come to my shows do not expect a political forum,” he said.

Sheeran continued, “I respect Macklemore’s strength of purpose to stand up and shout for what he believes. However, there is room for multiple approaches to the same end: peace.”

Why did Macklemore say he was dropped from tour?

In his statement on Monday, Macklemore said that he and Sheeran were friends but “our friendship can’t change my responsibility to tell the truth about what happened.”

Macklemore said that Sheeran’s “typical apolitical stance was being challenged in a way it never had been before. He told me that the words ‘Free Palestine’ and the image of the Palestinian flag were hurtful to a lot of people he spoke with.”

In his post on Monday, Macklemore said Kraft rallied other venue owners and gave Sheeran an ultimatum, threatening to block the shows if Macklemore remained on the tour.

Macklemore also pushed back on accusations of antisemitism in his post, saying when “opposing Zionism” is conflated with “hatred of Jewish people… It protects Israel from accountability.”

The rapper also shared that he hoped this did not mark the end of his relationship with Sheeran.

Macklemore was scheduled to play eight more shows alongside Sheeran, according to Variety.

“I didn’t need 10 shows from Ed. I needed 2. Two chances to stand in front of 90,000 people and say the words that somehow became too dangerous to say,” Macklemore wrote. “Free Palestine.”

In a video from the New Jersey show posted to Macklemore’s Instagram, he says, “One of the reasons why I wanted to come on this tour, was because I wanted to stand up here on stages and stadiums across America, and say two words that are very near and dear to my heart. Free Palestine. I said Free Palestine.”

He continued, “I want those words to be loud and clear.”

Macklemore also said, “To all of my Jewish brothers and sisters, criticism of Israel, criticism of apartheid, being against genocide, in no way is a criticism of you,” in the lead up to his song “Hind’s Hall.”

According to the New York Times, Macklemore also showed the song’s music video which features clips from Gaza and U.S. student protests.

ABC News has reached out to Macklemore for any further comment.

Promoter said cancellation would ‘impact hundreds of thousands of fans’

In a statement to ABC News, Messina Touring Group, the tour’s U.S. promoter, said, “As the concert promoter for Ed Sheeran’s U.S. Loop Tour, we have been notified by venues on the upcoming U.S. tour dates that they will not allow a concert to take place with Macklemore on the lineup, which would result in the cancellation of the tour and impact hundreds of thousands of fans. After discussions with stakeholders, Macklemore will not be performing on the remaining support dates.”

Robert Kraft explains why Macklemore would not play Foxborough

In a statement to ABC affiliate WCVB in Boston on Monday, and shared with ABC News, Kraft responded to Macklemore’s comments.

“Based on Macklemore’s recent actions, material shared from the stage during Ed Sheeran’s shows in New Jersey, and a broader history of antisemitic rhetoric and imagery that we believe has been deeply offensive and hurtful to the Jewish community, we determined that his participation in the September 25th and 26th concerts at Gillette Stadium would cross that line,” Kraft stated in part.

He continued, “This decision is not about diminishing the suffering of innocent Palestinians or denying anyone the right to advocate on their behalf. Their pain and loss are real.”

Kraft added, “I would welcome the opportunity to sit down with Macklemore and discuss the facts, because ultimately our goal is the same – peace for all people, an end to suffering, and an end to all hate.”

More supporting acts drop out of Sheeran’s show

Rowe announced on social media, where he also expressed support for Palestine, he would be withdrawing from the tour after Macklemore was dropped.

“I don’t take the decision lightly. Ed has been a friend to me and has changed my life, I could never thank him enough for this,” Rowe wrote in a social media post Tuesday.

“But as Irish people we know all too well about genocide, forced famine and violent occupation,” Rowe said in part.

He finished, “I need to be true to myself and my ancestors who resisted colonisation, and fought for a freedom that I enjoy today in Ireland.”

Rowe was slated to perform with Sheeran on several future tour dates.

More supporting acts including Finneas, Beoga and Lukas Graham also withdrew support on Tuesday.

Peppa Pig Creator Burgled of $13.4M by Art Heist Gang

0

Two members of a Romanian crime gang burgled the £13.4 million UK home of “Peppa Pig” creator Mark Baker, making off with valuables worth about $87,500 more than a decade after taking part in one of the world’s biggest art thefts.

Radu Dogaru, 41, and Adrian Alempi, 34, entered the English animator’s secluded south-west England property through a first-floor window on Valentine’s Day. The break-in took place during the 90 minutes Baker and his wife were away, a court heard during the men’s sentencing on Tuesday.

“The value of the stolen items was [$87,500] and included jewellery, a Rolex watch, Chanel and other designer handbags and suitcases,” prosecutor Joanne Cecil told the court, according to the Sun.

Both men had already served prison sentences over a 2012 robbery at a Dutch gallery, where paintings by Picasso, Matisse and Monet were among the works stolen.

Alempi had illegally entered the UK only a day before the raid on the cartoon creator’s 12,500-square-foot home.

The burglars were seen at a subway station roughly two hours before the break-in and returned there afterward carrying items taken from the property, including a Louis Vuitton suitcase.

Dogaru and Alempi were placed under surveillance, but that did not prevent them from attempting to target another large London home three days later.

Police caught the pair as they boarded a bus in an apparent attempt to leave the area, after they had already filled their bags with valuables.

Investigators later executed a search warrant at Dogaru’s property and recovered some of Baker’s stolen belongings, prosecutors said, though they did not specify which items were found.

The two men had previously been convicted over the October 2012 Kunsthal gallery heist in Rotterdam.

Among the works stolen were Picasso’s “Tête d’Arlequin,” Matisse’s “La Liseuse en Blanc et Jaune,” and Monet’s “Waterloo Bridge, London,” which were insured for an estimated $24.4 million.

Dogaru was released from prison in either 2017 or 2018 despite being sentenced to six years behind bars in February 2014, while Alempi received a five-year prison term.

Dogaru has since been sentenced to four years behind bars, while his accomplice has been hit with a five-year prison sentence.

Alempi also pleaded guilty to entering the UK illegally the day before carrying out the heist.

Meanwhile, Baker’s wife has been left traumatized – and has even thought her husband was a crook by mistake.

“She didn’t want to leave the house in case she came back to find it burgled again,” Cecil said.

“She said she screamed when her husband came up behind her wearing dark clothes as she thought he was a burglar.”

Gainesville Man Arrested After Second Hit-and-Run in 3 Weeks

0

GAINESVILLE, Fla. — Granville Crockett Batey Jr., 43, was arrested early Tuesday on a hit-and-run charge, marking his second arrest on similar allegations in less than three weeks.

The incident began around 5:42 p.m. Sept. 14, when a 911 caller reported seeing a white Mazda being driven erratically near Butler Plaza. According to the caller, the vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a median. As the witness followed the Mazda, the caller reported that it rear-ended another vehicle at the intersection of Clark Butler Boulevard and Southwest 33rd Place, then left the scene. The Mazda later reportedly ran off the road, entered a ditch and damaged a Florida Department of Transportation fence.

A second witness told officers the Mazda struck the victim’s vehicle while it was stopped at a traffic light. The Mazda then turned onto Southwest 33rd Place and entered the Walmart parking lot, where the witness lost sight of it. She said the driver waved toward the victim’s vehicle before leaving.

Another witness said the white Mazda hit the vehicle from behind, backed away and fled. That witness reported seeing the Mazda travel over a sidewalk and median before continuing along the roadway. She followed the vehicle for a time but eventually lost track of it.

A passenger in the struck vehicle said she and the driver felt the impact from the rear before the other vehicle drove away. The passenger said she was not injured in the collision.

The driver told police she had seen the Mazda traveling the wrong way on two occasions before the crash. She said her vehicle was stopped at a light when it was hit. Although she reported experiencing pain afterward, she chose to drive herself to an emergency room. An officer estimated the damage to her vehicle at roughly $3,500.

When officers arrived, they reportedly found Batey inside the Mazda, which had become stuck in a ditch. Police said that after being told to exit the vehicle, Batey put it in Drive and attempted to leave. The wheels spun in the ditch, but officers said he continued trying to drive the vehicle free.

Officers also reported seeing Batey actively inhaling from an aerosol can, later identified as Spray-X Electronics Duster.

After receiving his Miranda warning, Batey reportedly told officers he had “bumped into” another vehicle and tried to pull around it. He said he did not see the other vehicle after passing it and estimated he had been traveling about 5 mph. Batey also claimed the other vehicle struck him. He told officers he had “passed out” at some point during the incident and said his tires began spinning after he lost consciousness. Asked about the aerosol can, he said it was intended for cleaning and denied inhaling or ingesting its contents.

Batey was taken to an emergency room for evaluation before being booked into jail. He reportedly agreed to provide a blood sample at the hospital, and the sample was submitted to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for testing.

Batey has been charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving property damage, leaving the scene of a crash involving injury, driving under the influence with damage to a person or property, resisting an officer without violence, and inhaling a controlled substance. He has six felony convictions (one violent) and 22 misdemeanor convictions (four violent), along with three DUI arrests and a previous conviction for leaving the scene of a crash with property damage in 2000. He is on pre-trial release following an August 26 arrest for leaving the scene of a crash that disabled the other vehicle; he was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and tampering with evidence on that date.

Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $135,000 on the new charges and ordered him to wear a transdermal alcohol monitor.

The actor, 31, was rushed to hospital in Los Angeles with a suspected chest infection, but was later told by doctors he had a collapsed lung and had to have three surgeries in a month

The 31-year-old was admitted to a Los Angeles hospital with a suspected chest infection before doctors discovered he had a collapsed lung, requiring three surgeries within a month.

Speaking about his surgery ordeal, he said: ‘A short trip to LA turned into 4 weeks of survival. I went hospital for chest pain, turns out I was walking around with a collapsed lung for 5 days.

‘Doctors done surgery, fixed it, said I couldn’t leave LA until I got the all clear to fly, I recovered for 2 weeks thinking I’d be back to shooting soon – only for the x-rays to show on my follow up appt that my lung collapsed again!

‘Spontaneous pneumothorax back to back. It was almost like life was forcing me to be still. (sic).’

After thanking the medical team for looking after him, Shaquille continued: ‘Three surgeries in 4 weeks… hated needles, now I’m getting injected two times a day for blood, a fear became a daily routine. (sic).’

The Solo: A Star Wars Story alum said his first surgery ‘didn’t work’, and by the time he underwent his third operation, Shaquille had lost a lot of weight.

He said: ‘8KG down right before the 3rd surgery. Kept my Mind elevated even though my body couldn’t, they cut me open multiple times but couldn’t cut my spirit. (sic)’

Shaquille admitted he had been pushing himself physically just before seeking medical attention.

The Save Me cast member said: ‘This was an hour before I went for my initial hospital check up as I kept getting shortness of breath, I just hit the push up record for the day at Venice Beach, oblivious I was walking around with one lung for 5 days, thought the pain was just a chest infection.

‘Everyday pain. (sic).’

Shaquille mentioned that he had met a doctor in Los Angeles who was a fan of Death in Paradise.

He wrote: ‘The Main Doctor at the first hospital and overseer of my first surgery turned out to be a huge fan of DIP, what’s the odds.

‘We give thanks man, we don’t dwell, it’s all a part of the journey. (sic)’

Shaquille said he felt surrounded by reminders of death as he recovered.

He penned: ‘Every day bad news that hospital TV kept showing celebrities, faces I grew up seeing, transition.

‘Death felt way too present while I was lying there fighting to breathe, alone with my thoughts. (sic)’

Shaquille concluded: ‘The thing is, you can’t prevent a spontaneous pneumothorax, so to have it back to back maybe God made me be still because I spent my whole life moving – chasing the next dream, the next flight, the next version of me.

‘I was worried about the scenes I was missing… then life gave me a role where the only thing that mattered was making it to the next scene.’

‘They say you only live once, but I don’t agree. You only DIE once, you LIVE every day, make it count. (sic).’
