Comprehensive John Stewart Guide: Everything to Know Before Watching Lanterns

0

In an exciting development for DC Universe fans, “Lanterns” is set to showcase John Stewart (played by Aaron Pierre) as the newest live-action Green Lantern. However, this isn’t the John Stewart that’s known for being at the zenith of his powers. Teasers, like the trailer shown at Comic-Con, have revealed Stewart as an apprentice under the tutelage of Hal Jordan (portrayed by Kyle Chandler). Jordan, known for his own Green Lantern prestige, seems less than thrilled with mentoring the up-and-coming Stewart. For those unfamiliar with Stewart’s comic book origins and his potential growth throughout “Lanterns” and future DCU endeavors, checkout Looper’s video above for a comprehensive overview.

Partnering John Stewart with Hal Jordan is a noteworthy decision, given Jordan’s iconic status within the DC Comics realm. Stewart wasn’t the first Green Lantern to light up the page, but his debut was groundbreaking, primarily due to his role as a prominent Black superhero. His narrative depth and intensity set him apart, offering a stark contrast to the Lanterns who came before him.

John Stewart will usher in a more serious era for Green Lanterns

Portrayals of Green Lanterns in film and television have had a tumultuous journey. The 2011 film, led by Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan, is notorious for its shortcomings. Contrastingly, Nathan Fillion found better success with his comedic take on Guy Gardner, introduced in “Superman.” While Gardner’s portrayal showcased the formidable capabilities of a Green Lantern’s power ring, it leaned heavily into humor, missing the mark for showcasing the Lanterns’ gravitas.

The DCU’s choice to spotlight a more earnest facet of the Green Lantern Corps is timely and necessary. Their legends are steeped in conflict, formidable challenges, and dramatic lore that often gets overshadowed by vibrant alien aesthetics and the grandiose space opera vibe typical of their tales. It’s about time the franchise dives into the serious and weighty narrative that the Green Lanterns truly embody.

Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King set out to present them in a far more serious light with HBO’s “Lanterns,” and honestly? John Stewart, who you can learn more about in Looper’s video above, is the perfect Lantern for that.

Kellan Lutz Explains Move from Hollywood to Tennessee Bliss

0

This week, Kellan Lutz revealed that he swapped California’s sunny skies for Tennessee’s tranquil ambiance three years ago, a decision influenced by the onset of the pandemic.

“I truly adore California,” Lutz confessed during an episode of “Inside of You” hosted by Michael Rosenbaum. He further elaborated, “However, the move to Tennessee became inevitable when we were expecting our second child.”

Famous for his role in “Twilight,” Lutz and his family relocated from Orange County. Meanwhile, his wife, Brittany Lutz, harbors hopes of possibly moving back or at least splitting their time between both coasts.

Brittany, an Orange County native, cherishes her roots there. “Her family is incredible,” Lutz shared. “However, in the wake of COVID-19, many people decided to leave California. Job losses prompted a desire for a more serene lifestyle.”

Ultimately, her family opted to settle in Tennessee, which influenced Lutz’s decision to join them. He noted that having her family nearby was crucial as he often travels for work, leaving her with the children in need of a robust support network.

“And one of the kids got sick. She felt really out of control as far as not being able to bring both kids there or just kind of helpless. So, she’s like, ‘Can we move?’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, of course,” he explained.

He added that other men with kids in his life told him that new moms usually wanted to move to where their mom lives “just to help with the kids.”

“Then when they decided to move, I was like, “OK, well, we’re going to do it. We’re going to give it a couple years and we have, and it’s great. There’s a lot of great things about Tennessee, especially Franklin where we live.”

The family moved to Tennessee three years ago, but he acknowledged he doesn’t know how long they’ll stay.

“We got some land, got great Bible studies that we’re a part of, great churches, great community,” he said.

“There’s a lot of actors. I’ve gone to probably more movie premieres in Franklin, Tennessee, than I have in LA, you know, the last couple years since I lived there.”

Admittedly though, there are adjustments.

“Like we aren’t seasons people,” he said. “There’s tornadoes. My wife goes on red alert, especially when you have kids. And we do miss good sushi and good Mexican food.”

Rashford Ignites Manchester United’s Premier League Hopes with Return to Training

Marcus Rashford has stepped back onto the training grounds of Manchester United after a 19-month hiatus, pondering a future at the club and the fight for a first-team spot.

The England star has joined forces with Michael Carrick’s squad in Ireland as Manchester United gears up for the imminent season. In a bid to ease Rashford’s transition, the club chose to cancel a public training session, minimizing the spotlight on his return.

Despite resuming training, Rashford’s participation in the upcoming friendly against Leeds at Croke Park is doubtful. He is currently focused on regaining peak fitness following his post-World Cup respite.

Rashford wants to stay at United

Many speculated that the 28-year-old’s days at United were numbered after going out on loan last season. However, he now seems determined to remain at Old Trafford and compete vigorously for his place.

Interest in the forward has come from several Premier League clubs, but with the transfer window nearing its end, no firm offers have been made.

Rashford is also understood to have no interest in moving to Turkey or Saudi Arabia, with the winger determined to continue playing at the highest level.

His preference could leave United facing a decision over whether to reintegrate him into the squad or pursue a permanent transfer.

Rashford last trained with United in January 2025 before joining Aston Villa on a six-month loan. He subsequently spent time away from his boyhood club as his future under the previous regime remained uncertain.

New shirt number awaits Rashford

Rashford is reportedly set to return wearing the No. 14 shirt after previously wearing the No. 39, No. 19 and No. 10 during his Manchester United career.

The No. 10 shirt is now occupied by Matheus Cunha, who joined United last summer.

The forward still has two years remaining on his reported £325,000-a-week contract, meaning United face no immediate pressure to sell him.

With Carrick now overseeing the squad, Rashford has an opportunity to rebuild his position at United and potentially force his way back into the club’s plans.

Florida Caregiver Faces Charges Following Discovery of Dementia Patient’s Body

0

In a startling turn of events in Florida, a woman entrusted with the care of a friend suffering from dementia now faces serious allegations. Accused of concealing her friend’s demise, this shocking development has left many questioning the responsibilities tied to legal guardianship.

Lori Hamilton, aged 60, is confronted with grave charges including the disturbing of a deceased body and neglecting to report a death. These charges come more than a year after authorities discovered the decomposing body of Brenda Corbin, who had been concealed among bushy vegetation by a roadside. As reported by WINK News, the grim discovery has sparked widespread media coverage.

The saga began when Hamilton reported her long-time friend, Corbin, missing on May 20, 2025. She told authorities she last saw her 59-year-old high school companion just the previous evening. These claims, documented in an affidavit available through WWSB, have come under intense scrutiny.

Hamilton explained to officials that she awoke at her residence in Cape Coral to discover Corbin was gone. She noted that her friend was without a cellphone or any means of transportation, adding to the complexity of the search.

Her account further details her immediate reaction, stating she embarked on a search for Corbin before involving the police. These unfolding details mark a dramatic case that underscores the critical importance of safeguarding vulnerable individuals under guardianship.

She then allegedly speculated that her friend may have been with a man who years earlier ‘held her against her will for four days,’ Law & Crime reports.

But officers who responded to the scene noted that Hamilton could not explain what she and Corbin had done in the days before her disappearance.

‘All she said was that they had gone out, but did not remember where they went or what they did,’ police wrote in the affidavit.

‘Hamilton did not seem too concerned about Brenda’s disappearance,’ they added, noting she made no phone calls as she allegedly searched for her friend.

During the search, Hamilton posted on Facebook to ask for help moving furniture and made no mention of her missing friend.

Detectives then spoke with neighbors who said they hadn’t seen Corbin recently, and while their doorbell cameras typically caught the two friends walking their dog there was nothing captured on the night Hamilton claimed her friend went missing.

By May 22, investigators carried out a search of Hamilton’s home, truck and phone as they also collected her DNA.

The ensuing search of Hamilton’s pickup truck found Corbin’s wallet, including her Social Security card, and medications inside. Officers also removed discolored towels and bedding, the warrant notes.

Meanwhile, K9 units detected the odor of human remains ‘at or near the rear of the tailgate’ of Hamilton’s truck.

The search of her home further uncovered a blanket that had vegetation stuck in it.

When authorities then probed Hamilton’s cellphone, they obtained location records consistent with license plate reader data showing her truck had been driving north and south on State Road 31 in the early morning hours of May 19, the warrant said.

A motion-sensor trail camera also caught Hamilton’s vehicle near Babcock Ranch Preserve and cameras later caught the truck at the intersection of State Road 31 and Cypress Parkway just before 5am that day, police said.

When police then asked Hamilton about her early-morning trip, she claimed she was at the ranch checking in on her horse.

However, cameras had never spotted her truck in the area before.

Corbin’s nude, decomposing body was then found covered in brush near a trail at the preserve just one day later, with drag marks leading from the road. A leather belt was also found between the road and the body.

As her body was badly decomposed and had been damaged by animals, a Medical Examiner could not determine how Corbin died.

When officers then notified Hamilton of her friend’s death, they said she ‘looked down’ and slowly backed into her home before shutting the door in their faces.

Cops continued to investigate Corbin’s mysterious death, speaking with Corbin’s children and staff at a Tampa nursing home she was in before Hamilton decided to take care of her herself.

The staff at the facility then told officers they ‘had issues with Hamilton’ when they would need something for Corbin’s care.

They described how she allegedly refused to give doctors permission to adjust her friend’s medication – leading the Florida Department of Children and Families to get involved.

When detectives then spoke with Corbin’s children, her son said he had last spoken with his mother on May 16, 2025 when she called him using Hamilton’s phone.

In a voicemail from the call, Corbin could allegedly be heard claiming Hamilton would not divulge the address of her home. But Hamilton then apparently seized the phone and apologized before hanging up.

Police said they tried to get Hamilton to incriminate herself in a phone call they recorded between her and Corbin’s daughter, Heather Bliss, but Hamilton instead denied killing her friend.

‘I haven’t killed your mom,’ she insisted. ‘I would never.’

But during the phone call police noted: ‘Hamilton spoke more about how the police treated her and the trauma she suffered from the police than anything about Brenda or how Brenda’s children felt.’

Bliss told WINK she had been surprised when police arrested Hamilton in connection with her mother’s death.

‘You know, she seemed like she was a good friend to my mom,’ she recounted. ‘There was nothing there for me to suspect that she would do something like this.’

The heartbroken daughter now believes there is more to the story.

‘I wish that she would do the right thing and tell us what happened, because it just doesn’t make any sense,’ she said.

The affidavit against Hamilton says she ‘intended to conceal the death and altered the evidence and/or circumstances surrounding the death of Brenda Corbin.’

She is now behind bars at the Charlotte County Jail, where she is being held on a $6,000 bond ahead of her September 8 arraignment.

Lindsay Clancy Sought Medication Change Amid Struggles with Intrusive Thoughts, Reveals Psychiatric Nurse

0

As the trial of Lindsay Clancy unfolds, fresh insights are emerging from her former psychiatric nurse, shedding light on the treatment Clancy received leading up to the tragic incident involving her three children.

Nurse practitioner Rebecca Jollotta testified in Plymouth Superior Court on August 11. She provided detailed accounts of her initial interactions with Clancy, which began with a telehealth consultation on November 29, 2022.

Jollotta recounted that Clancy was four days into taking the antidepressant mirtazapine, aimed at addressing her mental health challenges and insomnia. During a 30-minute virtual consultation, they agreed upon a treatment strategy, continuing with the prescribed medication.

The nurse practitioner noted in her testimony that she observed no signs of psychosis in Clancy at that time. Clancy did not express any suicidal thoughts or intentions to harm others, according to Jollotta.

In a message sent on November 30, Clancy inquired about the safety of discontinuing mirtazapine after five days, reporting a worsening in her depression symptoms, as recounted by Jollotta.

Jollotta testified that since October 2022, Clancy had gone through a series of “really short medication trials.” She told her patient that it could take several weeks before a specific treatment could take full effect and encouraged her to keep up with her medication, in addition to several other recommended treatment options.

On Dec. 1, Jollotta testified, Clancy messaged her that she didn’t like the way she felt on mirtazapine and asked to alter her medication plan. “I know that I can’t stick with taking it,” the prosecution read from Clancy’s messages, which Jollotta affirmed were accurate. “I started having very intrusive thoughts that I never had before.”

In her response, Jollotta said she highlighted “how intrusive thoughts are quite common in postpartum depression,” reassured her and shared resources.

“I’m sorry for all the messages,” Clancy wrote in another message that day, per Jollotta’s testimony. “It’s just a very scary, stressful time for me, and starting new meds with side effects is very scary to me.”

Over the following days, Jollotta reported Clancy messaging about concern over potential side effects, saying she had “horrible intrusive thoughts” and had “never felt anything like this before.”

“I also just feel concerningly numb right now, like I have no emotion whatsoever,” Clancy wrote, per court testimony. “I feel like I’m going to die, and I don’t care. What do I do about this?”

According to Jollotta, they continued to work on her treatment plan, and she did not take those words as suicidal ideation.

“It sounds more like depression than side effects,” Jollotta confirmed she wrote in a message to Clancy. “It’s not uncommon for me to hear ‘I’ve never felt anything like this before,’ or ‘I just don’t feel like myself.’ All of this sounds like postpartum depression.”

What Is Lindsay Clancy Accused Of?

Clancy’s medical history has been a key point of focus during her trial for the deaths of her three children: 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson and 8-month-old Callan.

On Jan. 24, 2023, Clancy fatally strangled her kids in the basement of their Duxbury, Mass., home, then jumped from her second-floor bedroom window in a suicide attempt, leaving her paralyzed from the waist down.

Clancy has pleaded not guilty to three counts of murder. Her defense team has argued that she is not criminally responsible due to her mental state at the time.

“This is a woman that was suffering from psychosis at the time that she went down to that basement,” he told jurors. “She had no motive. She loved her children. She intended to kill herself. She didn’t fake that.”

Meanwhile, the prosecution has argued that Clancy was not “in the throes of psychosis” on the day of the killings.

“This was a woman who acted intentionally, rationally and swiftly,” Plymouth County Assistant District Attorney Shanan Buckingham said in her opening statement, “to accomplish a very specific goal: to kill.”

The prosecutor said there was “no dispute that [Clancy] was dealing with mental health issues” prior to the killings but argued she should still be held criminally responsible.

“The fact that someone may suffer or have a mental illness, a mental disease or defect, is not the end of the inquiry when it comes to guilt or innocence,” she added. “It is whether a person can appreciate the wrongfulness or criminality of the conduct and conform their conduct to the law.”

Opposition Pledges to Reduce Migration Amid Non-Disclosure of Specific Targets

0

A key member of the Coalition has hesitated to detail his party’s strategy to reduce migration numbers, even as a formal declaration is anticipated later on Wednesday.

Andrew Bragg, who is the Opposition spokesperson for housing, plans to address the National Press Club on Wednesday. In his speech, he will advocate for nearly halving the current net overseas migration levels to better align with the supply of new housing.

The Treasury’s forecasting, revealed in the May budget, indicates that net overseas migration is projected to decrease from 301,000 to 225,000 by 2030.

However, Bragg aims to push for average annual net overseas migration to be around 180,000, catering to the current deficiency in housing availability.

“Reducing net overseas migration to this extent is feasible and consistent with past reductions we’ve successfully managed,” Bragg intends to state.

“Lifting migration standards, and analysing them carefully each year, is crucial to ensure integrity and public trust in our migration settings.”

But his colleague, Opposition treasury spokesperson Tim Wilson, backed away from confirming the number just hours before the speech.

Wilson was pressed on the topic during a News24 interview, in which he said: “I don’t think you should bank that at all (the 180,000 figure). Let’s just wait and see, firstly, what Senator Bragg’s saying in his speech”.

“We haven’t made an announcement about where we’re going to be going into the next election, but our focus is actually about what we need to do to invest in the long-term growth and success of our country,” he said.

Tim Wilson, in front of a blurred background, speaking.

Building codes will also come under fire during the speech.

“It is now illegal to build a cheap house in Australia,” Bragg will say.

The centrepiece of Bragg’s speech will be a commitment to replace the National Construction Code with a new 80-page “Basic Australian Standard”.

The codes set minimum requirements for the safety, health, amenity, accessibility, and sustainability of certain buildings, as detailed in over 2,000 pages.

The Coalition’s new standards will focus on cost-effective structural, fire safety and health-related building standards.

“Anything else like mandatory ramps, flattened shower flooring or reinforced walls would be optional extras,” Bragg will say.

“The house won’t be gold-plated but it won’t fall apart. It will be safe.”

Labor announced it would freeze the National Construction Code following its productivity roundtable in mid-2026.

Housing Minister Clare O’Neil brushed off calls from the Coalition to cut the construction standards to 200 pages earlier in 2026.

“I’ve talked to builders about that, they laugh their heads off. That is absolutely ridiculous,” O’Neil told the National Press Club in May.

The government is not far off presenting a final plan to the building minister later this year to streamline the code, Treasurer Jim Chalmers told ABC Radio National on Wednesday.

Bragg has also called for the creation of a federal pattern book of model homes that could receive automatic approval from the states and territories.

Firm Up Belly Pooch Fast: 6-Minute Wall Routine Secrets

0

No more crunches! Discover a revolutionary 6-minute wall workout designed to tighten your belly, especially beneficial for those over 60 years old.

>

Crunches might be your go-to, but did you know they can be taxing on your body, particularly after you hit 60? The Mayo Clinic highlights that the repetitive motion of crunches often leads to lower back strain. It’s a hard lesson many learn, realizing their efforts lead to aches rather than the toned abs they desire, prompting them to ditch these classic but harsh core exercises.

Fortunately, there’s a gentler alternative that involves using a wall instead of a mat, which minimizes spinal strain. Innovative research reveals that wall-supported exercises enable you to hold your core muscles isometrically. Unlike traditional crunches, this method maintains tension without continuous bending, protecting your spine while still giving your midsection a comprehensive workout.

Seeking expert insight, we connected with James Brady, CPT, a knowledgeable personal trainer at OriGym. He has crafted a six-minute routine leveraging these principles. Brady advises, “Perform each exercise for 45 seconds, then rest for 15 seconds before moving to the next move.” This concise routine is excellent for those over 60, offering comprehensive core strengthening with minimal spinal impact compared to typical crunches.

Wall Plank

The wall plank is one of the safest ways to build core strength, especially if getting down on the floor feels challenging or uncomfortable. Bracing your body against a wall allows you to engage your ab muscles without any strain on your wrists, neck, or lower back.

How to do it:

  1. Stand facing a wall and place your forearms against it at shoulder height.
  2. Step your feet back until your body forms a straight line from head to toe.
  3. Keep your neck neutral and your gaze straight ahead at the wall.
  4. Flex your core muscles.
  5. Squeeze your glutes to lock in the position.
  6. Make sure your hips don’t sag.
  7. Breathe steadily through your nose during the hold.
  8. Hold for 45 seconds and rest for 15 seconds before moving on to the next exercise.

Wall Marches

Wall marches build on the plank by adding movement, which forces your core to stabilize your body with every step. Lifting one knee at a time also challenges your balance and coordination, both of which tend to decline with age.

How to do it:

  1. Place both palms on the wall at shoulder height.
  2. Lean slightly forward and engage your core.
  3. Keep your torso still and your back straight.
  4. Lift one knee to hip height.
  5. Lower it back down with control.
  6. Repeat the movement on the opposite side.
  7. Continue alternating legs at a steady, controlled pace.
  8. Continue for 45 seconds, then rest for 15 seconds before moving on.

4 Daily Standing Exercises That Keep Your Back Pain-Free After 60

Wall Dead Bug Press

The wall dead bug press trains your midsection to remain stable while your limbs move, which is exactly the kind of control that protects your lower back during everyday tasks. “The goal is to keep your body stable rather than allowing it to sway from side to side,” explains Brady.

How to do it:

  1. Stand facing the wall with your palms pressed firmly against it.
  2. Maintain steady pressure through your hands throughout the exercise.
  3. Keep your core braced and your hips level.
  4. Slowly raise one knee until it reaches hip height.
  5. Lower it back down with control.
  6. Raise your opposite knee to hip height.
  7. Continue alternating sides without letting your torso sway.
  8. Perform for 45 seconds and rest for 15 seconds before moving on.

Wall Sit With a Core Brace

This classic wall exercise strengthens your legs while the added core brace keeps your core working throughout the hold. It’s a two-for-one move that builds lower-body endurance and core stability at the same time, with the wall taking the pressure off your knees.

How to do it:

  1. Stand with your back flat against the wall.
  2. Slide down until your knees are bent to roughly 90 degrees (or slightly higher if that’s more comfortable).
  3. Keep your weight even through both feet.
  4. Press your lower back gently into the wall.
  5. Flex your abs.
  6. Hold the position while breathing normally.
  7. Keep your knees tracking in line with your toes.
  8. Hold for 45 seconds, then rest for 15 seconds before moving on.

Bride’s Wedding Hijacked by Moms? Here’s How to Reclaim It

0

DEAR ABBY: Our 33-year-old daughter is on the verge of walking down the aisle, but her wedding day is being hijacked by the mothers. They envision an extravagant affair with over 200 guests, complete with a lavish Catholic ceremony, high-end wines, a fully stocked bar, a gourmet plated dinner, and a live band.

However, my daughter’s vision sharply contrasts this grand spectacle. As someone who doesn’t practice Catholicism, she dreams of a small, cozy celebration with twinkling lights, a DJ spinning tunes, and Californian house wines served at an idyllic vineyard. Yet, her suggestions are consistently dismissed by the mothers, who seem more focused on dazzling their social circles and professional contacts.

Although my ex-wife and I parted ways years ago, I remain an integral part of our daughter’s life. I wonder, how can I guide her to reclaim her wedding day? — DOTING DAD

DEAR DAD: The bride truly deserves a wedding that reflects her desires, but navigating family dynamics can be complex. Convincing these determined mothers to relinquish their grip appears unlikely, and eloping could spark significant fallout.

My recommendation for the couple is to endure the pomp and circumstance with a smile, allowing the mothers to showcase their flair—provided they foot the bill. As a silver lining, the post-wedding honeymoon will provide the perfect sanctuary for relaxation and reflection.

Your daughter can save her more intimate plans for a renewal of vows ceremony held on a milestone anniversary. Obviously, she will want to avoid telling the moms about it until after all the arrangements are in place!

** ** **

DEAR ABBY: Our son, daughter-in-law and only grandchild live 1,400 miles away. We are able to see them only about three times a year. We have a warm, wonderful relationship. When we last visited, I noticed a picture in his room of our grandson, who is a year-and-a-half old, with his babysitter. There are no pictures of us with him in the entire house. I would like our grandson to have pictures of us so he will remember us. Should I say anything? — REALLY HURT IN CALIFORNIA

DEAR HURT: Because you have a warm, wonderful relationship with your son and his family, the lack of photos of you with your grandson is likely not a deliberate slight. The next time you visit, ask them casually why there isn’t one. Then ask one of them to snap some of the three of you and offer to have one framed for them.

** ** **

DEAR ABBY: My parents are retired. They live on a limited income and still support my 31-year-old brother, who lives rent-free in their basement. They told me how expensive their electric bill is becoming, and I asked why they don’t have my brother help with expenses or pay rent? Abby, he makes close to $100,000 a year. They quickly changed the subject, and when I tried to circle back, I was told to drop it.

How can I help my parents see that what they are doing is hurting them, not helping their adult son? — THEIR OTHER SON IN MAINE

DEAR SON: There is truth to the adage, “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it drink.” Understand that your parents must be deriving some satisfaction from encouraging your brother’s dependency. Your attempt to help them resulted in their becoming defensive, so stop talking to them about it. HOWEVER, you should consider talking to your brother about the fact that the electric bills are now so steep it is causing your parents hardship and suggest he help out. It’s worth a try.
