What Happened To Matthew Eappen? Deborah and Sunil Eappen, Matthew’s parents, founded the Matty Eappen Foundation after the tragic incident. Learn more about them.

Matthew Eappen died on February 9, 1997, as a result of a broken skull and a subdural hemorrhage. He succumbed to internal hemorrhage caused by Shaken Baby Syndrome when he was only 8 months old.

What Happened To Matthew Eappen?

His death received worldwide attention, and his then-nanny Louise Woodward was arrested for his murder shortly after. Eappen was also injured in the eyes.

Furthermore, a documentary is made which is produced by Channel 4 titled Louise Woodward: Villain or Victim? It shows the notorious case of Matthew’s demise and the trail ushering to the conviction of his set au pair, Louise Woodward.

Matthew Eappen’s parents, Sunil Eappen and Deborah, are engaged in their own works in 2022. After the tragic incident of Matthew, it was reported that they founded the Matty Eappen Foundation.

There Matthew had also spent the last few days of his very short life. Meanwhile, Matty Eappen Foundation aims to flare cognition about child abuse.

Moreover, Sunil and Deborah have continued their medical practice. Not to mention, Sunil is an anesthesiologist based in Boston, Massachusetts, while Deborah works as an ophthalmologist in Wellesley, Massachusetts.

The death of Matthew deeply saddened the family of Matthew Eappen. His father, Sunil, wedded Deborah in 1990 after the pair met in medical school.

They had their first son Brendan in 1994, and they arranged to take on an au-pair. Besides, Deborah was working as a mother, and when her first child was born, she resumed her part-time job as an ophthalmologist.

And now, both Sunil and Deborah are still practicing medicine. After their son’s death, they opened a foundation in the memory of him that works for child welfare.

What Happened To Matthew Eappen?

Matthew Eappen was 8 months old at the time of his passing. Louise Woodward was the hired au pair to Eappen. She hails from England, came to America to make a living. 

She received an injunction from the Eappens to improve herself in late January 1997. And on February 4, 1997, Louise contacted the police to convey that Baby Matthew was encountering problems in breathing. 

But the Chief Prosecutor of the case, Gerard Leone, Jr., stated that Louise acted violently with the baby owing to the irritation and frustration that was carrying within her due to the ultimatum.

Reportedly, Louise shook the baby and popped him down on the bed and floor, leading him to death.
