As a result of her confession during the interrogation, the court verdict was only a formality as it is considered a vicious crime in the country. Soon after, the local court judged a death sentence by stoning.
Nonetheless, Maryam recently stated that she would seek a retrial in the Supreme Court, which has a history of overturning the decision of stoning against convicted women, reports New York Post.
