Rachelle Denmark said, “This is the hardest post I’ve ever written. Today is your birthday and you are gone. We both have had to do so many social media posts for our agencies. What would you tell me? How do I verbalize what I’m feeling? Remember when we sat in Ariel (your beloved Pink Heals fire truck) and poured our hearts out, crying together over life? Remember when we first met? We became friends instantly.

You understood me like so many never did, you broke through walls of hurt I put up, you supported me all the time no matter what. Remember how we talked about being a light? You were that light. We always said the brokenness from life let the light out so we could share it with the world. Baby girl, you have shared the biggest light ever. My life will never be the same. Rest in Heaven and I promise to hold the sharing of the light here for you. I love you, Sarah Cooksey.”

According to Lindsey Peek, “12 years ago I had the absolute joy of stepping into the Cooksey Home as their full-time nanny and remained for 4 years. Sarah and Tom were the second set of parents to me all throughout college. They were both firefighters for the city of Tallahassee and I covered their 24-hour shifts and spent many weekends and evenings in their homes.

I shared countless dinners around their table, took their kids to school, did karate belt testing, and swim lessons. Sarah loved people and things she was passionate about with a fierce kind of love. She served her community with boldness and it was an honor to provide care for her kiddos so she could care for her city.

She was my boss, but she was my friend. She was my second mom in a city far away from family. She supported me, taught me how to be a mother, a business owner, and a friend. As the years went by, she always encouraged me as a mother to my own kids now, laughed as we relived funny memories, and cried together as life took its unexpected turns. Today I am absolutely heartbroken to learn of her tragic passing and will hold close those memories for forever.”

“Heartbroken isn’t a strong enough word. It’s suppose to be your birthday today, but I’m angry someone with such a huge heart is gone. I love you Sarah Cooksey.
(If you know Sarah and are finding out this way, I’m so sorry. She passed away. It’s not fair and she deserved so much more.)” Said Jessie Harrell Jackson.
