Who Is Kylie Needham?
Kylie is a writer for television and film, and has won two Australian Writers’ Guild Awards and received one further nomination.
Kylie was part of the development and writing team for FIGHTING SEASON, a six-part character-driven drama series about Australian soldiers returning from Afghanistan from Goalpost Pictures commissioned by Foxtel. She is currently writing an original feature film screenplay about the coming of age of a female Australian artist, BLOOM.
Kylie’s writing credits for television include series SECRETS AND LIES, CROWNIES, RUSH and OFFSPRING. She wrote many episodes of the medico-legal series MDA and also worked as Script Editor, Story Editor and Script Producer with Rick Maier (Series 3). Her episode Precious Little won an AWGIE Award for Best Television Series. MDA won an AFI Award for Best Drama Series and was nominated for an International Emmy Award.
THE SOCIETY MURDERS, an adaptation written with Greg Haddrick and based on the book of the same name by criminal lawyer Hilary Bonney, won an AWGIE Award for Best Adapted Telemovie and was nominated for a Silver Logie for Most Outstanding Drama Series, Miniseries or Telemovie.
Kylie has extensive experience as a television drama series writer for commercial networks and the ABC. She has worked as a writer and story consultant for leading independent drama companies including Screentime and Southern Star. She was Screentime’s Head of Development (Drama).
Contemporary art project, THE DRESS, scripted by Kylie and directed by Ben Quilty with Ralph Baydoun, was shot in the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon, about a young female Syrian refugee. THE DRESS is currently on exhibition at the Art Gallery of South Australia.
Kylie’s essay on artist and filmmaker Warwick Thornton appeared in the exhibition publication for the 2014 ADELAIDE BIENNIAL OF AUSTRALIAN ART: DARK HEART curated by Nick Mitzevich, Director of the Art Gallery of South Australia.
Kylie has recently completed a Master of Arts in English Literature. She has a Bachelor of Arts/Communications (Theatre/Media). She won the English Association Prize for first place in NSW in HSC 3Unit English.

Ben Quilty is living cherished life with his screenwriter wife, Kylie Needham.
The couple is the parents of two children named Joe, 12, and Olivia, 10. Interestingly, when Joe was an infant, Quilty depicted him crying while transformed into a hamburger.
