Dwayne Stephens is now set to coach the Michigan men’s basketball team after working with Tom Izzo’s staff at Michigan state for almost 20 years. He is officially replacing Clayton Bates, who was fired recently after the second year of a three-year deal.
Michigan State has provided an update on Stephens’ various responsibilities, which include player development, scouting, and recruiting.

Stephen played for the Spartans from 1989 to 1993 before joining the coaching staff in 2003 after a four-year stint as an assistant coach at Marquette under former Izzo assistant.
He has been more of a lucky charm for Michigan State because, during Stephens’ tenure on Izzo’s staff, MSU was able to attend five Final Fours, win six Big Ten regular-season titles, four postseason tournament titles, and finish with a 477-189 record.
