In addition, Carter served as the first lady of the United States from 1977 until 1981. Jimmy Carter, her husband, was the 39th President of the United States from 1977 to 1981.

Furthermore, Rosalynn was politically active during her husband’s presidency. During his term of office, she supported her husband’s public policies and his social and personal life.

Sadly, Rosalynn passed away on November 19, 2023, leaving her close ones completely devasted.

However, there was no fact news of Carter having dealt with cancer. The rumors regarding her cancer diagnosis may have circulated on the web without any truth.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that Carter had been diagnosed with dementia. One in 10 older Americans have dementia.

Not to mention, dementia is a condition that affects overall mental health. Despite the diagnosis, Carter continued to live happily with her family.

Her family shared the news of Carter dealing with dementia via a statement, leaving everyone shocked. Following that, her well-wishers began sharing their supportive messages with Rosalynn.

Rosalynn Carter Health Issue Before Death

Rosalynn Carter faced various issues with her health before death. As said earlier, she was diagnosed with dementia, which she battled for a long time.

Apart from that, Carter also had some problems with her health in the past. In April 1977, she underwent surgery to remove a nonmalignant breast tumor.

In August of the same year, she underwent a gynecological procedure at Bethesda Naval Hospital. Her press secretary, Mary Hoyt, described it as a routine private matter.

At that time, the news of Carter dealing with dementia was not shared until the family released a statement in May 2023.

When the announcement was made, it was revealed that she continued to live at home with her husband.

Her husband was living in hospice care at the time of the announcement.
