GAINESVILLE, Fla. – On Friday, July 26, at approximately 6:40 p.m., officers of the Gainesville Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for numerous traffic violations. The vehicle, a grey Infiniti sedan, came to a stop and, as officers approached, fled the area at a high rate of speed. The officers did not pursue the vehicle.

The Infiniti traveled westbound on NW 10th Avenue at a high rate of speed. At the intersection of NW 10th Avenue and NW 6th Street, the Infiniti struck another vehicle.

Alachua County Sheriff’s Deputies in an unmarked vehicle and officers of the Gainesville Police Department rendered aid to multiple injured persons on scene. The driver of the Infiniti fled the area on foot and was apprehended a short time later by members of ASO and a GPD K-9 team. Three passengers in the Infiniti were taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. The driver of the other vehicle (a red Dodge sedan) was killed.

This incident is currently an open and active investigation. More information will be provided when available.
