English television star Paul Danan, has died aged 46 after years of struggling with substance abuse and addiction.

His management company Independent Creative PR shared the news of his death today.

“Known for his television presence, exceptional talent, and unwavering kindness, Paul was a beacon of light to so many,” the company said “with heavy hearts”.

“His untimely departure will leave irreplaceable voids in the lives of all who knew him.

“During this difficult time, we kindly request respect and privacy for Paul’s family, friends, and colleagues. No further comments will be made at this time.”

His cause of death has not been made public. 

Danan is best known for playing Sol Patrick in the English soap opera Hollyoaks from 1997 to 2001.

He also appeared on reality shows, including the very first series of Celebrity Love Island in 2005 and 2006 and Celebrity Big Brother in 2017.

Just last week, he posted his audition for Orsino in A Twelfth Night to social media, saying “it’s been a long time since I’ve gone near a bit of the Master that is Our pioneer Sir William Shakespeare”.

“You forget what a Genius he really was and remember how beautiful and exhilarating it is when you get stuck in to tackling his work. It’s an amazing experience. I forget sometimes how much I need to be awoken.”

His death came just hours before he was reportedly due to face Warrington Magistrates’ Court for cocaine and cannabis possession.

Danan was also accused of driving under the influence in October.

The star has publicly opened up about his struggle with substance abuse and addiction. He attended and held events supporting others who were also suffering.

Last year, he collapsed and was hospitalised with pneumonia which he claimed was because of his addiction to vaping.

“I was dead — it’s a miracle I’m here. I’m so lucky,” he told The Sun.

Fellow Celebrity Love Island star and friend Calum Best paid tribute to Danan, who he said was “one of the funniest, kindest, and most authentic people I’ve known — truly a creative genius”.

“Life wasn’t always easy for him, but he faced it with such heart and courage, and that inspired so many of us,” he said.

“We shared many laughs, chats, and unforgettable moments. My heart goes out to his loved ones right now. Rest easy, brother.”

Presenter and friend Hayley Palmer said she couldn’t believe the news.

“Paul was a one-off character, he was so funny. We were great friends and did a Radio Show on Love Sport Radio together and I would fall off my chair with laughter,” she said.

“He was one of the first to reach out to me when I wasn’t in a good place last year. Last message he said love you and I said love you back.”
