BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WIAT) — The former administrator of the Crenshaw County Jail has been indicted with allegedly assaulting an inmate and lying about it to federal investigators.

Alexander Porter, 33, was indicted by a federal grand jury Monday, charged with assaulting an inmate while they were handcuffed at the jail, in addition to falsifying a report and making false statements to investigators.

According to the indictment, Porter purportedly used “unreasonable force” on the inmate on October 12, 2021 while they were staying at the jail awaiting trial. Subsequently, Porter allegedly lied to investigators during two different meetings on November 18, 2021 and June 28, 2022.

If convicted, Porter could face up to 10 years in prison for violating the inmate’s civil rights, 20 years for falsifying a report and five years for making false statements to investigators.

A federal grand jury in Montgomery, Alabama, returned an indictment yesterday charging former Crenshaw County Jail Administrator Christian Alexander Porter, 33, with assaulting a handcuffed and compliant inmate at Crenshaw County Jail. Porter was also charged with falsifying a report and making false statements to state and federal investigators.

The case is ongoing.
