A Texas karate instructor has been charged with raping one of his students.

The alleged rape took place two years ago at the Safety America Karate school in Sugar Land, KHOU reported.

According to a probable cause statement, the boy told police that William Propper told him during a summer camp two years ago that it was time to learn about sex and took him into a bathroom, where he raped him.

PEOPLE.com reported that the victim, who said Propper had been his instructor since 2018, was 13 or 14 at the time.

“John Doe explained that it occurred while he was attending the Safety Karate school in Sugar Land during the summer for a summer camp,” the affidavit said. “John Doe explained that suspect offered to ‘try out sex’ and suspect told him that [victim] was mature enough now to have sex.”

Afterward, the boy said, Propper “told him to keep what happened in the bathroom a secret.”

Propper was arrested last week and promptly released on bond. He is due back in court on March 17.

Safety America said “an employee” was “placed on leave pending the results of an investigation,” KHOU said.
