CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) – It was a special Saturday night at State Farm Center.

At halftime of the Illinois game versus Michigan State, Terrence Shannon Jr. was welcomed back to Champaign as his jersey was lifted to the rafters.

The crowd gave a loud applause for Shannon Jr. as he walked out, and the Illinois legend shared a messaged with them.

Shannon Jr. also spoke with reporters before the game and talked with WCIA for an exclusive one-on-one interview at Gameday Spirit.

There was one slight mishap during his jersey ceremony, as the banner revealed was upside down.

Shannon Jr. set the Illini’s single season scoring record in his second year with the program in 2023-24.

“I was shocked,” he said pregame when asked about getting the call from Illinois Athletic Director Josh Whitman about his jersey becoming a part of Illinois basketball history. “I was only here two years. I was just happy, grateful…”

Kofi Cockburn also enjoyed a special ceremony earlier in the week.
