DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – A new committee will search and recommend who will be the next president of Bethune-Cookman University.

The university announced on Wednesday the formation of the Presidential Search Committee.

“This distinguished committee, comprised of members representing the Board of Trustees, student body, faculty, alumni, community, and other key stakeholders, reflects the University’s commitment to excellence, transparency, and inclusive leadership in this critical selection process,” the university said in a release.

Bethune-Cookman University Trustee John Crossman will be chair of the committee. Here are the other members:

The move comes just over a month after students at the university protested over the search for a new president and called for several members of the school’s board of trustees to resign.

Student Sagal Buchanan told News 6 that it all started back in October 2024 when the board of trustees voted not to make interim President Dr. William Berry the new university president, despite a presidential search committee, which included students and staff, recommending Berry for the role.
