Company retaliates after asphalt deal goes wrong: Police

MOORE, Okla. (KFOR) What was supposed to be a typical paving job culminated in a gas station owner trapped in his store and calling the police.

The owner was blocked in by a mountain of asphalt that was allegedly pushed up against the front doors by one of the workers hired to pave the gas station parking lot.

“A brand new shiny white dump truck pulls in,” said Jim West, who works nearby. “A couple of guys got out, and I saw another guy driving it, and they just start dumping asphalt. So, in my mind they’re going to re-asphalt the parking lot, right?”

Turns out West was wrong. At least after plans to asphalt the parking lot went awry.

“Three hours go by,” West said. “Whenever I look out here, you guys are filming. We’ve got asphalt all over the parking lot, and who knows what happened.”

Early Tuesday afternoon, a truck carrying asphalt came to the OK Stop gas station in Moore.

affiliate KFOR was told that the plan was to asphalt the parking lot, but the cost of the job was something the company and the gas station did not agree on.

“Apparently, the thing went awry after it got dumped,” said West.

The Moore Police Department said that after the disagreement took place, the company then pushed the asphalt up against the front door of the gas station, trapping the owners inside.

“I never heard anything like it, never anything like it,” said West.

At one point, McIntyre Law Chopper 4 could see city workers using shovels to clear a path as the asphalt began to harden.

Moore police say they are investigating the incident.

KFOR also tried contacting the company doing the asphalt work late Tuesday afternoon, but couldn’t reach anyone.

As for West, he is still in disbelief about what happened.

“That’s fairly savage, right, locking them in the building, but at least they got supplies and a bathroom inside, and no telling how long they’re going to be in there,” West said. “But yeah, I guess that’s a crazy deal.”

Moore police said there isn’t much they can do unless the gas station owner chooses to press charges.
