More than 140 people were transferred to buses in order to get to their final destination, officials said.

NASSAU COUNTY, Fla — Hundreds of people were stranded on a disabled Amtrak train on Sunday, sending some to the hospital due to heat exhaustion, according to the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office.

Amtrak officials said around 10:30 a.m., Train 41 became disabled and lost head-end power just south of Jesup, Georgia. According to Amtrak’s website, the train stopped due to a “mechanical assessment.”

The train had first left from Chicago, and the final destination was slated for Miami, with dozens of stops scheduled in between the two cities, the website states.

NCSO and Nassau County Fire Rescue officials responded to the train, which was near the intersection of County Road 121 and Yellow Rose Lane.

The sheriff’s office said a few passengers were taken to a local hospital for heat exhaustion treatment due to a lack of air conditioning inside the train. The remaining passengers were then taken to the Amtrak station in Jacksonville.

Amtrak officials said 147 passengers then boarded buses taking them to their final destination around 3:45 p.m., and 72 people stayed on board the train.
