Here’s how the Duchess of Sussex responded when asked if was going to write a book about her life.
When news broke that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle lost their lucrative Netflix deal, many were wondering what’s next for the duke and duchess.
There have been reports that the two are facing financial issues as they need to pay their employees, including round-the-clock security, and other hefty bills for their Montecito mansion and lavish lifestyle. That reportedly has left the royal family a bit worried about what the Sussexes’ next move will be since their biggest income generator happens when they’re dishing out dirt on Harry’s relatives.
There’s been chatter for a while about what the prince and former Suits star could do if their deal is not renewed and they’re desperate for another stream of money. Some believe Meghan could follow in Harry’s footsteps and negotiate her own book deal and memoir. But Meghan has previously issued a response when asked about a potential book.
Here’s what she said about that, plus why her As Ever wine sales are being called the “nail in the coffin” for Netflix.
What Meghan said about following Prince Harry’s lead with her own memoir
In early 2023, Prince Harry released his memoir Spare, and it broke records, becoming the fastest-selling non-fiction book ever.
So could Meghan be thinking of releasing her own book, which would definitely generate buzz that may translate to book sales?
In 2024, a source told Closer magazine: “The word in publishing circles is that everyone’s mad to land Meghan’s memoirs and the numbers being thrown around are ridiculously high. We’re talking tens of millions for her authorised biography – it’s going to get to the point where she can’t say no. And love her or hate her, there’s no denying that she has an insight into the royals that no one else can share.”
In April, Meghan was asked about writing a book during Jamie Kern Lima’s podcast. She replied with 11 words, saying: “I’ve got a lot more life to live before I’m there.”
But things could always change as Prince Harry’s wife also made it known a few years back that she has the freedom to say whatever she wants about her time as working royal for Britain’s most famous family, revealing: “I’ve never had to sign anything that restricts me from talking.”
The duchess’s other sources of income may be drying up
According to Page Six, Lemonada Media, which distributed Meghan’s Confessions of a Female Founder podcast, is being bought by the Swedish company PodX. Just what that means for the duchess’s podcast remains to be seen.
As for Meghan’s As Ever products, well her latest offering was a rosé wine that sold out within a matter of hours. However, it is believed that the reason for that is because she didn’t have a large amount available for purchase.
An insider told the Daily Mail that the wine available was only a “small batch.” That insider also claimed that the wine launch proved to Netflix that “there isn’t a demand for her wine from a mass market point of view” and therefore a supermarket or department store deal for Meghan’s rosé was not on the table.
