Fred Warner carted off with gruesome ankle injury in gutting 49ers scene

The San Francisco 49ers suffered a significant defensive blow on Sunday when star linebacker Fred Warner was forced to leave the game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers due to a serious leg injury.

Warner, who has been selected for the Pro Bowl four times and has accumulated 51 tackles this season, was injured during a run by Buccaneers’ Raachad White. Safety Ji’Ayir Brown accidentally rolled onto Warner’s right leg amidst a crowd of players.

Concerned teammates and staff from the 49ers rushed to the field as medical personnel assessed Warner’s condition. His leg was immobilized in an aircast before he was transported off Raymond James Stadium by cart.

At 28, Warner has been a pivotal figure in the 49ers’ defense since being drafted in the third round in 2018. The team entered Sunday’s game with a defense ranked sixth in the NFL for points allowed per game this season, averaging 19.6, under the guidance of defensive coordinator and former Jets head coach, Robert Saleh.

This formidable defensive line has been crucial for the 49ers, especially while managing without starting quarterback Brock Purdy, who missed his fourth game due to a toe injury, forcing the team to rely on backup quarterback Mac Jones.
