STATESBORO, Ga. — Officials revealed on Tuesday that the superintendent of Bulloch County Schools plans to step down from his position in March 2026.

Charles Wilson, the superintendent, has dedicated 30 years to the Bulloch County school district. He initially took on the role of chief financial officer before advancing to assistant superintendent of business services, a position he maintained for 16 years.

In 2012, Wilson was appointed as superintendent. Originally from South Carolina, he has now led the district for over a decade, marking 14 years in the role.

“Serving the families of Bulloch County has been an incredible privilege,” Wilson expressed. “As I look back over my years here, I am immensely thankful. This community has truly become a part of me. Spending decades working alongside people you care about creates a profound connection. Together, we’ve tackled challenges, celebrated achievements, and developed a robust team that will continue to advance our schools and the broader community.”

Wilson is an alumnus of The Citadel, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration, and Georgia Southern University (GSU), where he completed his master’s in business administration. He furthered his education with a specialist’s degree in education from GSU.

“Throughout the time that I have known Charles Wilson, both as a CFO and superintendent, he has been laser focused on making sure that Bulloch County was able to provide the resources students would need to be successful,” said Elizabeth Williams, a retired administrator from the school district, who now serves as its Board of Education chairmen. ”He has worked hard to make sure that our students can go on to be successful adults.”

Officials said they have begun its initial planning steps to launch its search for the next superintendent to lead the district.
