In Addison, Illinois, a 45-year-old man named Salvador Lozano is facing serious charges, including attempted murder, following an incident where he allegedly opened fire on police officers from within his residence. The dramatic event unfolded on Thursday, leading to Lozano’s arrest and subsequent court appearance on Saturday.

Lozano is being held accountable for multiple offenses: Attempted Murder, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm at an Officer, Aggravated Battery to a Peace Officer, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon. These charges stem from the chaotic situation that began when Addison police were dispatched to a home in the 200 block of East La Porte Drive just before 11 a.m. on Thursday.

The initial call to the police came from Lozano himself, who reportedly requested assistance to find his dogs, suggesting that if his people did not locate them, the police should fulfill their duties. This bizarre request marked the beginning of a tense interaction.

After a brief exchange with Lozano, the responding officer left the scene. However, the situation escalated quickly when neighbors reported that Lozano’s behavior had become increasingly erratic, prompting police to return to the same location.

Officials said after a brief interaction, the responding officer left. But a short time later, Addison police officers responded to another call, at the same location, from a neighbor who said that Lozano was acting erratically.

Lozano allegedly told officers that if they did not find his dog he would “reign fire down at 12 o’clock.”

Lozano allegedly spoke with officers before walking up his driveway and spraying pepper spray toward them. Lozano then allegedly threw the pepper spray can behind him and entered his home.

After more officers and an Addison police social worker arrived at the scene, Lozano allegedly exited his home, carrying something, and began shouting at the officers, only to return to his home while throwing an unknown liquid at officers when they approached him.

A short time later, Lozano allegedly fired approximately six to seven shots at officers from inside his home, striking one officer in the back as he retreated for cover. The officer, who was wearing a Kevlar vest, was transported to a local hospital and is recovering from non-life-threatening injuries.

Four officers returned fire, and Lozano fired additional shots from his home at around 11:48 a.m., 11:56 a.m., 12:12 p.m., 12:16 p.m., 12:26 p.m., 12:31 p.m., 12:36 p.m., 12:37 p.m., 12:45 p.m., 1:09 p.m., 1:17 p.m., and 1:22 p.m., officials said.

At approximately 3:15 p.m., SWAT took Lozano into custody.

Authorities found about 50 shell casings on the first floor of the home and more than 200 shell casings in the basement. Authorities also found three Glock handguns, each with an extended magazine, two drum magazines, two additional extended magazines, and multiple other magazines, along with multiple spent and unspent 45 mm and 9 mm rounds throughout the home.

Officers also found bullet holes and expended bullets from Lozano’s alleged shooting at seven nearby homes, as well as two Addison Police Department squad cars.

DuPage MERIT is investigating the officer-involved shooting.

A judge ordered him Lozano to remain in custody ahead of his trial. His next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 24.
