In a startling incident on Monday night, a man was discovered fatally shot at a Jacksonville hookah lounge, with the alleged shooter himself having called 911 to report the situation. This was confirmed by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, which is currently investigating the case.
The dramatic scene unfolded at the Medusa Lounge, situated at 9551 Baymeadows Road. Sergeant Josh Catir of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office provided details, explaining that patrol officers were dispatched to the location shortly before 10 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting.
En route to the lounge, officers were informed by dispatch that the individual who had reported the shooting was still present at the scene and had identified himself as the shooter. Upon arrival, officers quickly detained this individual for questioning and began an exhaustive search of the premises.
During their search, officers discovered a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Despite immediate response efforts by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The alleged shooter was subsequently taken to the Police Memorial Building for further interviews as authorities seek to piece together the circumstances leading to this tragic event.
Catir said detectives then took the professed shooter to JSO’s headquarters to be interviewed.
“At this time, we do not know the relationship of the parties involved, nor do we know the circumstances surrounding the shooting,” Catir said.
