Graham Norton recently provided an update on his health following a complete shoulder replacement surgery earlier this year, admitting that the recovery period has led to some weight gain.

The 62-year-old chat-show icon revealed that after several months of consistent physiotherapy, he’s now well enough to return to one of his favorite pastimes—cycling.

Nonetheless, Norton noted that his extended inactivity during recovery has resulted in added pounds.

He commented, “I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned my full shoulder replacement. The healing has progressed well enough that I’m back on my bike.”

Graham shared this update during an episode of his podcast, Wanging On, alongside co-host Maria McErlane.

Maria, an actress and TV presenter who started out in comedy under the name Maria Callous, said jokingly: ‘I’m so relieved because you got so fat.’

Laughing, Graham replied: ‘I know. Huge! I ballooned.’

He recently said the shoulder pain has ‘all gone’, and that over the summer he was able to swim daily in the bay near his home in Ireland.

The Irish presenter underwent surgery earlier this year to fix a long-term injury stemming from a childhood accident.

He said his left shoulder ‘has always been a bit odd’ after he broke his collarbone as a boy, and that in recent years it became ‘painful’ and ‘sore’ to the point he was ‘struggling to sleep’.

The TV favourite eventually went under the knife in late spring, just days before returning to work as a commentator for the Eurovision Song Contest.

He later revealed surgeons had fitted ‘a bit of porcelain and plastic’ into the joint, joking on BBC Radio 2 at the time that the brand-new shoulder was ‘less than two weeks old’ and he was on ‘many medications’.

He was also spotted wearing a sling on the BAFTA TV Awards red carpet in May, sparking concern among fans, before assuring them the operation had been a success.

Speaking this week, Graham said he was delighted to be back to his normal cycling routine – especially because he doesn’t enjoy being chauffeured around.

‘I like cycling because I hate sitting in cars,’ he admitted, before going on to compare pedalling around London with riding in New York – the two cities where he had homes until recently.

‘Cycling is much nicer here because we have the big super cycle lanes, which are kind of an overreaction to something.’

He added that he occasionally uses electric Lime bikes – particularly when tackling the hill near his new home, whose location he has not disclosed.

Graham said that because of his age, people underestimate how quick he is on two wheels.

He said: ‘I think I’m misjudged – people kind of think, oh, look at that old man, I’ll pass [him]. Well, they’ve misjudged me!’

He also revealed he now owns ‘special jeans for cycling’, joking that the stretchy denim works ‘for cycling – or getting fat’.

The update comes as the star recently navigated another major upheaval in his life: moving house.

Graham has been in the process of selling both his £4.95million Georgian townhouse in east London – where he has lived for 20 years – and his long-owned New York carriage house.

Last month he admitted the move has left him ‘frazzled’ while confessing he has discovered he is ‘a hoarder’ after emptying cupboards stuffed with decades’ worth of belongings.

Graham, who is married to filmmaker Jono McLeod, added he is slowly sorting through the items himself, while Jono has ‘no emotional attachment’ to most of it.

Despite the chaos, Graham appears in good spirits – and healthier than he has felt in years.
