ERWIN, Tenn. (WJHL) — Marking its ninth annual celebration, the Downtown Erwin Candlelight Nativity Parade is set to illuminate Main Street once again.

This cherished event will see hundreds of adults and children donning costumes of shepherds, angels, and carolers as they parade through the heart of the town. Scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 17 at 7 p.m., the procession will create a festive atmosphere as participants make their way down the street.

Carrying candles and singing beloved Christmas carols, the crowd will journey toward a live nativity scene, recreating the journey of the Holy Family. The parade begins at the Erwin Post Office and culminates in front of the First Baptist Church at 200 Love Street, where Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus will be waiting. Following the parade, attendees can enjoy a short service featuring scripture readings and more carols, topped off with a treat of hot chocolate.

People of all ages in the community are encouraged to join the festivities. To participate, attendees are asked to bring a small white candle for lighting and to dress as either a shepherd, angel, or caroler.

For those taking part, it’s important to be lined up by 6:45 p.m. to ensure a smooth start to the event.

A coalition of local churches organises the event.
