A heart-wrenching incident in Tennessee has resulted in the deaths of a mother and father, leaving their son in critical condition. The Dyer County Sheriff’s Office has identified 60-year-old Sherry Darlene Lydon as the suspect in this devastating case.
Authorities report that Sherry allegedly shot her husband, William John Lydon Jr., while he was asleep in their Lenox residence. In the tragic chain of events, she also reportedly shot their 24-year-old son before escaping the scene.
Their son was immediately airlifted to a nearby trauma center, where he remains in critical condition, fighting for his life.
Following the shootings, Sherry Lydon drove onto I-155 in the wrong direction, leading to a harrowing head-on collision with an 18-wheeler. Investigators believe this crash was a deliberate act in an attempt to end her own life.
Sadly, Sherry succumbed to her injuries at the hospital. Remarkably, the truck driver involved in the collision emerged unscathed, as reported by Action News 5.
Investigators are examining Lydon’s medical history as a potential contributing factor. Preliminary reports indicate she had recently undergone surgery and experienced severe night terrors, anxiety, and sleep disturbances.
Sheriff Jeff Box described the incident as “incredibly tragic” and stated that there is no ongoing threat to the public.
The Dyer County Criminal Investigation Division is currently processing evidence and interviewing witnesses.
“This is an incredibly tragic situation that has affected our community deeply,” said Dyer County Sheriff Jeff Box.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Lydon family during this difficult time, and we ask for your continued patience as we navigate this investigation.”
