Aaron Rodgers taunts Lions defender in juicy mic'd-up moment

At 42 years old, Aaron Rodgers hasn’t lost his edge when it comes to banter on the field.

During the Pittsburgh Steelers’ thrilling 29-24 victory over the Detroit Lions, Rodgers took a moment to tease Lions linebacker Jack Campbell, a newly minted Pro Bowler, for not catching him more quickly. The exchange added a touch of humor to an already intense game.

The quarterback’s playful side emerged after Campbell initially declined Rodgers’ offer of a hand to help him up after a collision sent the quarterback out of bounds. Despite the snub, Rodgers persisted, attempting to lend a hand once more.

Eventually, Campbell accepted Rodgers’ assistance with his left hand, while another teammate, Tyrus Wheat, helped him up on the other side.

With a cheeky grin, Rodgers quipped, “Oh, you don’t want me to help pick you up?” as Wheat joined the scene to aid Campbell. The light-hearted moment between the competitors highlighted the camaraderie and friendly rivalry that often exists in the NFL.

“Why, cause you’re slower than a 42-year-old? Is that why? You’re slower than a 42-year-old.”

Rodgers certainly has reason to have some pep in his step and bite with his remarks, with the Steelers in the driver’s seat to win the AFC North with two games remaining.

Pittsburgh (9-6) has a two-game lead over the Ravens and can clinch a playoff spot with a win Sunday against the Browns in Cleveland.

A playoff berth would mark Rodgers’ first in four seasons, having missed the playoffs in his final season in Green Bay in 2022 and the last two years with the Jets.

Qualifying for the postseason would surely carry extra weight since Rodgers has said this could be his final season in the NFL, and this would be his last chance at winning an elusive second title.

Rodgers has played well over the last three weeks to help right the Steelers’ ship after they fell to 6-6 with a blowout loss to the Bills on Nov. 30.

The former first-round pick has tossed four touchdowns to zero interceptions while winning tough road games at Baltimore and Detroit, while also besting the Dolphins at home.

Rodgers threw one touchdown in a 266-yard performance against the Lions, and the play in question happened late in the third quarter with the teams tied at 10-10.

The Steelers escaped with a win when the Lions’ touchdown on the final play was overturned due to offensive pass interference.

For the season, Rodgers has thrown for 2,860 yards and tallied 23 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

“Happy to get a win, we played great in the second half,” Rodgers told CBS. “We played great in the second half on offense, picked up our defense, they came up with a big stop (to end the game).”
