Nationwide Recall Issued for Two Popular Holiday Treats Sold at Aldi

TOPEKA (KSNT) – A nationwide recall has been issued for holiday treats sold at Aldi due to the presence of allergens not listed on the packaging.

On Monday, Silvestri Sweets Inc., based in Geneva, Illinois, announced an expansion of its voluntary recall for two types of “Choceur” branded “Holiday Barks.” This decision came after discovering that one variety contained undisclosed pecan ingredients, while the other had unlisted wheat components.

The company cautioned that individuals with allergies could face “serious or life-threatening allergic reactions” if they consume these products, as stated in the recall alert published by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday.

The recall affects Choceur Cookie Butter Holiday Bark, which may include hidden pecans, and Choceur Pecan, Cranberry & Cinnamon Holiday Bark, potentially containing undisclosed wheat.

Silvestri Sweets said the mix-up may have been caused by a “temporary breakdown in the company’s production and packaging process,” which resulted in one variety being packed in the other variety’s packaging.

The FDA said no illnesses have been reported yet in connection with the recalled products.
