OKATIE, S.C. — The Beaufort-Jasper Water & Sewer Authority (BJWSA) is set to initiate two key upgrades to its water storage system on January 5, 2026. These improvements have been strategically scheduled by BJWSA to prevent potential water discoloration issues during the holiday season.

Once the disinfection and permitting phases are completed, a newly constructed 1.5-million-gallon elevated storage tank, located near the junction of Bluffton and Buckwalter Parkways, will become operational. This tank, along with its connected transmission lines, represents an investment exceeding $28 million.

Meanwhile, the current elevated storage tank, which services the northern section of Lady’s Island, will be temporarily decommissioned for rehabilitation work. During this period, water pressure will be sustained through the use of a hydro-tank.

Customers who experience any discoloration in their water during the project should let cold water run for a few minutes until it clears. It is also advisable to delay washing light-colored clothing until the water is clear.

If the water remains discolored after running for 10 minutes, customers are encouraged to contact BJWSA’s customer service team at 843-987-9200 for assistance.
