Newsmax Host Criticizes Trump’s DOJ for Epstein Document Redactions: ‘Accountability Needed

A Newsmax anchor has fiercely criticized the Department of Justice (DOJ) from the Trump era for extensively redacting documents related to Jeffrey Epstein, a notorious convicted sex offender. During a broadcast on Wednesday, the host demanded accountability and called for legal repercussions, urging that “someone should face jail time.”

Carl Higbie, who leads the show “Carl Higbie Frontline,” accused the Trump administration of concealing crucial information by blacking out names and details in the Epstein files. He argued that, although the law requires redactions to protect the identities of victims or individuals under investigation, this withholding of information suggests either a deliberate cover-up or severe incompetence.

“This is either a cover-up or it’s incompetence, and I want somebody to go to jail for it,” Higbie asserted. “At a minimum, anybody involved with screwing this up should no longer work at the DOJ or have a law license or anything.”

Higbie didn’t hold back in his criticism, pointing fingers not only at Trump’s former Attorney General Bill Barr but also at the Bush, Obama, and Biden administrations. He held them all accountable for failing to release comprehensive DOJ files on Epstein. Addressing Attorney General Pam Bondi, he declared that the responsibility now rests with her.

“You took that in by taking this job,” Higbie remarked to Bondi, underscoring the expectations placed upon her in handling the situation.

Higbie pointed to redactions raised by Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) during Wednesday’s explosive hearing with Bondi. Massie said that hundreds of pages that included FBI interviews were redacted, prompting Higbie to ask why “are hundreds of them fully redacted?”

The Newsmax host praised Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) for asking Bondi if any Epstein co-conspirators or associated individuals were under investigation. Bondi refused to answer, telling Nadler that his “theatrics are ridiculous.”

“As much as I hate Democrats, it was a good question, and the answer is zero,” Higbie said. “This should not be a partisan issue.”

He added that Bondi “should have just shown up with, like, a list of people, like, ‘Hey, here’s who we’re charging, today.’”

“The bottom line is that no one new was in jail,” Higbie later said. “The DOJ has six million pages of investigations and hundreds of victims and no arrests.”

Bondi engaged with Massie, Nadler and other Democratic lawmakers on the House Judiciary Committee over their questions about the Epstein files. She lobbed insults at lawmakers, citing specific crimes in their districts or boasting about the performance of the stock market.

The attorney general at one point accused Rep. Rebecca Balint (D-Vt.) of voting against a resolution against antisemitism, drawing outrage from Balint.

“You want to go there? Are you serious?” Balint said before storming out of the room. “Talking about antisemitism to a woman who lost her grandfather in the Holocaust.”

Bondi asked Republicans on the committee to use some of their time to respond, often detailing crimes in Democratic districts.
