The hosts of “The View” found themselves taken aback when guest co-host Sara Eisen challenged their assertions about the economy under President Donald Trump. Eisen, a seasoned financial news anchor with CNBC, was temporarily stepping in for Alyssa Farah Griffin during her maternity leave, marking her third time co-hosting the show.
During a heated exchange on Thursday’s episode, Whoopi Goldberg, 70, criticized Trump, while other panelists suggested that his economic strategies, particularly tariffs, have harmed the economy.
Contrary to their opinions, Eisen argued that some businesses are experiencing unprecedented profitability.
The discussion kicked off when Goldberg invited Eisen to share her insights on the market, given her expertise in the field.
The segment began with Goldberg asking Eisen if she wanted to talk about the market since it is her area of expertise.Â
‘Because it seems that the market doesn’t really pay attention to who is president. The market does what it does,’ the veteran TV star said.
Much to the host’s surprise, Eisen responded: ‘Actually, the market likes who’s president, I think.’Â
‘Really?’ an incredulous Goldberg said, while Sunny Hostin responded with a shocked: ‘Oh interesting.’

‘There’s a lot of upbeat sentiment from companies,’ the financial expert said. ‘And from investors about policies that are helpful for growth – like deregulation.’
Hostin, 57, then asked if Eisen thinks the controversial tariffs implemented by the president have helped the economy grow.
‘The tariffs usually wouldn’t be helpful for growth but they’re not as bad as everybody expected,’ Eisen explained.
‘But they’re not good,’ Hostin interjected.
Joy Behar also interrupted, claiming the tariffs help ‘rich people.’
‘It doesn’t help poor people or middle-income people,’ she added, while the audience applauded.Â
‘Fair,’ Eisen reasoned. ‘But when the tariffs were announced, everyone thought it would be massive inflation and the market and the economy would fall apart and it hasn’t.’
‘Some companies have absorbed it,’ she added. ‘You know what? They’ve never been more profitable right now, but they also like the tax bill.’
In a tense moment on the show, host Whoopi Goldberg, 70, took a jab at the president, with the hosts insinuating his economic policies – such as the tariffs – have hurt the economy
Trump previously threatened to impose a 10 percent tariff under Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974, which grants the president the power to impose temporary tariffsÂ
Hostin then argued, ‘If you’re wealthy, it’s great. If you’re middle class or under the middle class, it’s not good at all.’
In response, Eisen suggested that everyone needs to invest more in the stock market.
‘If you get paid minimum wage, you don’t have exposure to stocks,’ Hostin shot back.
Goldberg then shut the conversation down, apologizing to Eisen for beginning the conversation.
‘You just got peppered with so many questions,’ Hostin quipped, with Eisen good-naturedly saying: ‘Keep it coming!’Â
A clip of the interview was uploaded to X (formerly Twitter) where it was swamped with comments from disgruntled viewers.
‘It was actually embarrassing, wasn’t it? They have the best of the best in that field and all they were concerned with was getting her to bash Trump,’ one scathed.Â
‘She was interrupted every time something positive was said about the economy,’ another shared.Â
‘They hate to hear anything good about Trump – so pathetic,’ someone else added.Â

On Wednesday, the View co-host Sara Haines cracked a joke about President Trump being gay after he praised the US men’s hockey team at the State of the Union address.
The liberal anchor made the snide dig while discussing the moment with her fellow panelist during Wednesday’s show.
It came after the president invited the Olympic champions to attend the annual address, in which he commended the team for their 2-1 victory over Canada in the finals.
Haines’s co-host Whoopi Goldberg began the discussion by claiming the president was ‘insanely rude’ for singling out the US men’s hockey team over other medalists.
‘A lot of people won gold for the US, a lot of people won gold,’ she noted. ‘The women’s hockey team and the women – and the young skater who comes from an immigrant family – I mean there are a lot…’
Haines then jumped in, adding her own snide remark.
‘He’s clearly a fan of “Heated Rivalry,” Whoopi, that’s why he loves the hockey players,’ she joked in a reference to the popular HBO Max series about a romance between rival male hockey players.
‘I can agree with Donald Trump on this,’ she continued.
