AUGUSTA, Ga. () – Augusta concluded its third and final charter review town hall on Thursday evening.

This meeting allowed residents to express their concerns before the proposals are submitted to the state legislature. A significant portion of the dialogue revolved around a proposed oversight committee for the city auditor, sparking worries about potentially compromising the auditor’s independence.

“We’ve been diligently taking notes, gathering contact information, and staying in touch with regular speakers,” stated Marci Wilhelmi, chair of the charter review committee. “Next Thursday, we will delve into these motions and examine the draft charter, which encompasses all decisions made over the past ten or eleven months. Once we’ve made sufficient progress, the draft will be presented to both our county commission and the legislative delegation in Atlanta.”

The committee has promised that the finalized draft will be accessible online.
