POLK COUNTY, Fla. – Authorities have charged a Winter Haven woman with multiple offenses following an incident where she allegedly evaded arrest and attempted to seize an officer’s weapon on Monday, as stated by the police department.
According to an official release, officers responded to an emergency call at an apartment on Gowan Drive at approximately 3:28 a.m. The call was concerning a potential shooting incident.
“Upon arrival, officers discovered evidence of gunfire outside the apartment building, along with traces of blood near a staircase,” the statement detailed. “They encountered the man who had dialed 911; he was suffering from injuries believed to be caused by a knife.”
The injured man informed the officers that a “violent confrontation” had occurred between him and his girlfriend, in the presence of two young children within the apartment. Fortunately, the children were unharmed, and the man was subsequently transported to a hospital for treatment.

However, officers added that a woman dressed in bloodied clothing — identified as Unique Lashiah Isaac, 29 — approached one of the Winter Haven marked units where the children were secured, trying to get their attention.
It was determined that Isaac was related to the children and the incident at hand, as she lives in the apartment where the initial stabbing happened, police said.
As a result, she was handcuffed and detained in the back of a patrol car, though she was soon spotted running on foot through the complex, the department announced. It turns out she had slipped out of her handcuffs and slid through the partition window before escaping from the car.

But as Isaac ran, she stumbled and fell over, which gave officers the opportunity to pin her down, the release shows.
“At this time, Isaac began reaching for an officer’s handgun, and she would not remove her hand from the gun in an attempt to remove it from the holster,” the release continues.
Isaac failed to remove her hand from the weapon as ordered, causing officers to strike her in the head to “disorient” her, investigators added. However, she continued trying to remove the gun, so a Taser was used to “gain compliance.”
“A short time of compliance was gained, but when the effects wore off, Isaac again grabbed for the officer’s weapon,” the release states. “Another utilization of the Taser was given, and officers were able to gain compliance and escorted Isaac back to the patrol vehicle.”

Ultimately, Isaac was taken into custody — this time with additional restraints — and now faces the following charges:
-
Domestic battery with a deadly weapon
-
Escape
-
Battery on a law enforcement officer (two counts)
-
Resisting arrest with violence (two counts)
-
Domestic violence/aggravated assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill
-
Resisting arrest without violence (four counts)
“This was a very scary incident for our victim and the children,” said Police Chief Vance Monroe. “Our officers did everything they could to secure this woman, but her determination to flee and attempts to grab our officer’s weapon has racked up additional charges that should keep her locked away for a while.”
