Devotees of Dragon Ball Z are likely acquainted with the notable collaboration featuring One Piece and Toriko, two other acclaimed Shonen Jump anime. However, prior to this famous team-up, a lesser-known crossover slipped under the radar for many international fans. Excitingly, this episode is finally poised to make its streaming debut.

Netflix’s official site has confirmed that the Toriko x One Piece crossover special will become available for streaming on April 1, 2026. Viewers in key regions, including the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, will be able to enjoy this episode.

This unique collaboration was initially crafted to mark the launch of the Toriko anime series. Airing in Japan on April 3, 2011, on Fuji TV, the episode was cleverly divided into two parts — the inaugural episode of Toriko and Episode 492 of One Piece — which were broadcast consecutively.

The release of this special coincides with a prior announcement regarding the streaming of the main Toriko anime series on Netflix, set to commence on March 15, 2026.

The arrival of this special follows a previous announcement that the main Toriko anime series will officially begin streaming on Netflix starting March 15, 2026.

Directed by Naoyuki Ito and written by Isao Murayama, the crossover episode begins with Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat crew discovering Gourmet Island, a mysterious land where everything from the trees to the animals is made of delicious food.

There, Luffy encounters the gourmet hunter Toriko and his chef partner Komatsu, leading to a brief misunderstanding when Toriko mistakes Chopper for a potential ingredient. However, the adventure escalates when Nami and Komatsu are kidnapped, forcing Luffy and Toriko to join forces in order to rescue their friends.

While the triple crossover episode featuring Toriko, Goku and Luffy, known as Dream 9, is often cited as the pinnacle of Shonen Jump collaborations, the 2011 Toriko x One Piece was the test run that made it possible. In fact, the initial collaboration was such a massive success that it prompted the production of a second crossover episode as a part of Toriko’s first anniversary. This special aired as Episode 51 of Toriko and Episode 542 of One Piece.

Netflix’s latest move is a huge win for both Toriko and One Piece fans, as the crossover episodes have historically been skipped by major Western streaming services due to complex licensing agreements involving multiple production committees. By adding the crossover, the streamer is ensuring that fans can experience the franchise exactly as it was introduced to audiences nearly 15 years ago. Netflix is also streaming the second half of the Dream 9 collaboration in the West.

Toriko was once touted as the spiritual successor to Dragon Ball Z. When it initially launched, the anime occupied the Sunday morning time slot on Fuji TV previously held by Dragon Ball Kai — a clear sign of the high expectations Shueisha and Toei Animation held for the series. While the special crossover episodes helped boost the franchise’s popularity, excitement eventually faded and the anime ended after airing 147 episodes, without adapting the entirety of the manga’s plot.

For those new to the series, Toriko follows the titular gourmet hunter who traverses the world to find rare and dangerous ingredients to help him make his Full Course Meal — also known as an individual’s ultimate meal. Alongside the timid chef Komatsu, Toriko battles mythical beasts and rival organizations as he works towards his goal.
