On March 5, actor Ryan Gosling made a surprise appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon alongside Eva Mendes, as they promoted his upcoming sci-fi action film, Project Hail Mary, set to release on March 20. In a heartwarming gesture, the show’s audience was filled with teachers, a group Mendes holds dear, and a high school marching band serenaded the actress with “Happy Birthday” as she celebrated her 52nd birthday.
The couple, known for keeping their relationship private, held hands and shared a kiss during this rare joint appearance. This marked their first public showbiz appearance together since the SXSW festival in 2015, where they participated in a Q&A session following the premiere of Lost River, a film directed by Gosling and featuring Mendes. Notably, they didn’t stand together at that event.
The birthday festivities continued when 45-year-old Gosling hosted Saturday Night Live for the fourth time on March 7. During his closing remarks, he made sure to shout out “Happy birthday, Eva!” and expressed love for their children with a heartfelt “Ama, Ezzy, I love you!”
Despite their inclination for privacy, the couple has occasionally been spotted in public. In 2024, they were seen attending the Paris Olympics with their children. Mendes later praised NBC Olympics for respecting their family’s privacy by not including their daughters in the coverage of a women’s gymnastics event they attended.
Throughout their 13-year relationship, Mendes and Gosling have largely chosen to pursue their careers independently, while remaining supportive of each other behind the scenes.
