During a segment on CNN’s “OutFront,” Representative Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) expressed confidence that Republicans might support Michigan Democratic Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed.
Jayapal remarked, “It’s striking how Republicans lack a positive agenda for voters. Instead, they’re focusing on labeling Abdul El-Sayed post-primary. The primary was notable, with about 1.4 million votes cast in Michigan, reflecting an energized electorate. Having been on the campaign trail with Abdul, I can attest to his dynamism. He’s revitalizing a demographic that had lost faith in the Democratic Party and politics generally. Remarkably, even Republicans are backing him, recognizing the need for change and viewing Abdul as a champion for working people. I’m optimistic about the general election, recognizing its close contest regardless of the primary outcome.”
She continued, “When I visited, some Republicans admitted Abdul might be too progressive for their taste, but they’re willing to take a chance since the current system isn’t working. This sentiment isn’t confined to Michigan. Across states like Pennsylvania, Ohio, California, Colorado, New York, and Washington, voters are frustrated with a system benefiting only the wealthy elite and big corporations, neglecting their daily needs.”
